JoAnne,,, I am. So. Concerned about your DIL and DGD--hoping you have heard from them--this is so horrible I am just feeling devastated for all these people! Oh I just can't watching without crying. And I keep thinking about diseases that start after floods--this is just unbelievable.

Hi!
Busy days, a lot of food prep Sunday/Monday. Today my relatives came to visit, it was nice to spend more time with them. Who knows when they will come back to US now that my grandma is gone.
I hope Jojo's DDIL and family are ok! Terrible times. I gave to a charity yesterday.
Joan, so you didn't have to heat the pickling liquid first to dissolve the sugar and salt? That's pretty much the ingredients I use for pickling except less sugar. How was DGS16 at the dinner?
Holly, sounds like you are really enjoying that meal service.
I've been keeping up with my exercise but weight is creeping up, ugh. I think the only thing that will work is to really cut the carbs.
Rainy here all day, driving back from my parents was a pain, especially with the traffic on these roads.
I grew up listening to stories from my parents, I know there is a lot more though. My mom lately has been telling more and more stories.

Sue, no--no boiling of ingredients--just stir every day. I bagged up the second batch of pickles today---had some for lunch---I love how crisp and crunchy they stay.
DGS16 was definitely stoned when he came to dinner, Sue---it is sad---he was either hyped up, repeating topics he wanted to talk about (giant reptiles he had seen in a reptile store) or sort of zoning out---he was definitely not "sober"==and drove here from a store that is at least 10 miles away--freeway and all--he showed up with a bunch of sugary MX sodas and candies and had to eat a bunch before we even had dinner. Then today he texted his mom asking to use "his" van to help a kid move something---she told him she ended the insurance coverage on it and that her conditions for driving had not changed anyway. Amazing he would have the nerve to even ask.
Getting gloomy and stormlike again this afternoon---keeps trying to build up to rain but we don't get any. Wish it would rain here and stop in TX.
I am cheating tonight--bought some pre prepared cheese enchiladas--at TJ's and am going to make some fresh green beans and call it dinner. I feel lazy.
Did my yoga and weights today---talked with the yoga teacher about her afternoon classes which are twice a week and listed as intermediate---am going to take one next week and see how I like it---she says she does some sun salutations in that one---we only do halves in the basic and it is not quite enough compared to what I had before. Although I like it and it is challenging because she holds the standing and balance poses a super long time---would really like some full sun salutations again to get heart rate up.

Another gloomy sky building up with no actual rain.
Did pilates today only. Had lunch with WWBF finally---has been so long---she has had tons of company since June and I was not free in June. Was so nice to chat in person.
This afternoon I made Curry chicken lettuce wrap filling--probably have it tomorrow. Also took all the tomatoes I have been storing up from my garden picking before Beach week---they were all ripe finally--and made my friends Italian marinara sauce so will probably have that and Wh Wheat angel hair for dinner as DH will like that best. I'd like to have the lettuce wraps but will save them for tomorrow.
Valerie posted a picture of a new haircut today---very short with a diagonal shock of bangs off to the side and front---it is really attractive on her.

Hi!
Volunteered today. Every time I go there are different people volunteering, so it's nice meeting new people all the time.
I had to go online to fill out all the paperwork for the catering job, I guess that's how they do it these days. Now they will procede with a background check, shouldn't be much for them to find on me, haha.
Joan, DGS16 still coming over for dinner is still at least a sign that he still wants the connection with family. All is not lost, SO was big into stuff in the 60's, 70s when he was a young, causing his parents a lot of pain.
Thanks for update on Valerie, she always liked the short edgy haircuts.
We've had some good weather last couple of days after the downpour on Tues. At least driving to and from my parents house, my car got clean!
Well this will be a relatively quiet weekend and week coming up, nothing social planned at all.

Totally agree about DGS16. We need to just make sure he knows a real family life is still available to him and that people in that family perceive him as part of it---

Danny,my DS, left Angola is is to arrive Houston Sunday morning. I have not been able to talk to DDIL since Tue. I do know they got to the house on Thursday and began sifting things out. All new furniture trashed, also new sound system, son's car, books , applets rugs. I haven't found out anything about their new Appliances. Of course all of the new floors will have to come up. DDIL and DGD are still sleeping at her brothers but evidently at their own house all during the day working. I'm sure her parents are helping. I feel so helpless - strange not talking to them for a while. DDIL is just overwhelmed and says she cannot talk about it right now.
Rain here early today but cleared up and was warm enough to dry it all out so that I could cut the grass this afternoon.
Joan- so heart breaking about your grandson. At least he is communicating with the family and no longer isolating himself.
DH went to a movie this afternoon but I was doing the yard work and knew I would be too tired. So just made myself some tuna salad for dinner as a quick and easy.
Tomorrow will help DS with the kids. DDIL is in Arizona visiting her brother who is recovering from a big surgery about 2 mo. Ago.

Oh, how awful, JoAnne. I have been wondering--Cruise BF's have friends in Houston--their house was flooded half way up the walls---they are there daily---have torn off al the wall board about five feet up throughout trying to prevent mold developing. Of course, same destruction--everything on bottom floor totally ruined. I just cannot even imagine! And some of the pictures showed water way up to the rooftops--it is so terrible.
Now this new storm--I hope it doesn't make landfall!
I too worked outside---finally woke up to 78 degrees yesterday so I was out before breakfast and attacked the front yard--trimmed jasmine, pony tail ferns, cleaned out dead leaves, pruned half the mesquite tree and cut it all up before garbage came at 9--then ate breakfast and went to the gym. After gym and lunch went back out (by now it is in 90's) and used my electric hedge trimmer to trim the multi trunk palm, the TX sages, some other shrubs and the boxwood---then picked it all up so DH could bag it and suck up the smaller pieces with the blower thing. It looks so much better that this morning I just stood out there enjoying the smug feeling of having it nice again---love that stuff so much more than housework! Way more satisfying!
We had Cruise BF's over for dinner---they are in their six month apt. Now and were not unpacked for cooking yet. Served Chicken curry lettuce wraps, a cup of chicken noodle soup I had made, and a watermelon arugula quinoa salad. Peaches and yogurt for dessert. I decided I will make the lettuce wraps for book club in Sept. They are a cold lettuce wrap--really yummy.
Now my allergies are beyond crazy--finally gave in and took a Zyrtec=-have not taken one in two years since being on Flonase- but that couldn't slow this down at all--way too much pollen and dust yesterday I guess. Hope I don't get super sleepy as we are going to BF's to play cards tonight.
