Hello Friends.
Ginny you have such busy days. No only working but babysitting. Your dds are blessed to have you. Then there's your church work with the music and all. I'm glad you'll have 11 days off and hope you get some rest
CJ, after living in a home as long as you lived in yours you definitely would have some reservations about leaving that home. There's probably not much that will help except the passage of time. You have a lot of time to unpack those boxes so try not to stress too much about that. As for the odor in your bedroom, I would agree that it might be from Fabreze. Either that or the previous resident used an awful amount of perfume. I hope the baking soda helps. They do have products for sale that claim to get rid of odors. One new one I saw advertised on tv is called Phoopphed or something similar. They claim it even gets rid of the scent from skunks. You could also try activated charcoal or kitty litter is supposed to work too although I have never tried it.. You could cook some food that make a lot of a pleasant aroma while cooking too. One thing I would suggest for getting used to the new home is to think of how you're going to make it yours with a decor you really love and think of each room and how you will do that. Basically, though, whatever works for you.
I haven't done much today. I didn't go out as I had originally planned and won't until after Christmas. I need to do some more intensive cleaning next week and maybe will start tomorrow.
See you then..

Good morning,
CJ, many of us do not like change (myself including!) and I know leaving a house which holds so many memories for you and your family must weigh heavily on your heart. Its obvious that this has been troubling for you for a long time- your angst when you had trouble with your roof, challenges with airconditioning, a heat system that no matter what you did would not work properly, issues with landscaping and keeping a lawn service and just living in an area that used to be nice but has now become dangerous. Take comfort in that you have family who live more close now (and are willing to assist you in the move!!!) and that you have left all those issues behind. Yes, in a month (when you have not had to worry about the heat not working right!) and all the smells are gone it will feel better. The boxes and bags?? One by one…put on a good movie or some music that you enjoy and work through the volume of stuff, one box or bag at a time. I figure that a lot was moved that ultimately you will no longer find a need for. (Remember my DD moved in September? A lot of her donation items are things she moved from their first house that she cannot or will not use in the house they are in now). Think that is human nature….we are not sure what we will need so we keep it. I will pray for you that you quickly gain comfort in the new house and that the smell subsides! Looks like for next week there are a few days with temps in the high 50’s (I keep track of weather in your general area as I have a dear friend in Gaithersburg)…good days for you to get some fresh air in the house. Moving is a messy stinky process. Is there carpet? You could try sprinkling baking soda on the carpet- waiting awhile and vacuuming it up. Perhaps even washing down the window sills (white vinegar is a miracle worker) which does smell, but tends to neutralize odors. And I really hope that you brought the Christmas tree with you…just because.
Ruth, great ideas for CJ to get rid of odors at her house!! I agree that once she starts to set it up with her own decor, it should start to feel more like home. Intensive cleaning does not sound like all that much fun.. I hope that you can do that safely, remembering that awful muscle pull you experienced a few weeks ago. Did you get your wrapping done? How is Dh’s afghan coming along?
Going out for breakfast with friends this morning to celebrate a birthday…then I have a doctors appointment and get my hair done. Yes a busy day, but it should not be too stressful. A total joy to wake up this morning and NOT have to fly out the door to babysit or go to work. I do have to practice flute in the next few days, just to get ready for Christmas Eve Sunday service and then the official Christmas Eve service that night. Honestly, not too much practice. Got gifts to wrap…oh!!! I originally ordered a pair of pajamas for DGS, and found the ones I really liked on Disney’s web site. I ordered them in late Novembe -PLENTY of time to pack an order and ship. Well week after week they said the order was packed and waiting for shipment. Weeks went by with no change in shipment status. Last week I took matters into my own hands and found the same item on amazon for a few bucks more- and Amazon indicated they would have the item here on time. So I ordered from Amazon and DGS’s pjs are here. I called Disney twice and hung up when I heard the wait was over 110 minutes. Then I emailed them…told them they could keep the pajamas and that I wanted a refund. Oh, they got back to me in 48 hours and are refunding me for the purchase price of the item ONLY, not tax and shipping. What??? I have already emailed them insisting that I am refunded for the full purchase price plus tax and shipping. Lets see how that goes….believe me I will not back down from this.
Gonna wrap some gifts. Hope you both have a great day.

Ginny, sorry to hear that the Disney online store is so bad with getting things shipped. Yes you do need to confront them on not refunding your shipping and tax costs. I've never ordered from Disney but I've had a lot of good luck talking to someone on the sites of other sellers and ended up getting full refunds and I know you can definitely be assertive in these things too. they should even refund the extra you had to pay Amazon in order to get that item...of course they won't do this but they should

Hello Thanks so much to both of your for your support about the move and leaving my old home. And also for the suggestions for my issues with the smell in the bedroom. I put out baking soda last night and have a few other things to try. I'm starting to think the issue might be with the air vent so I may get a new filter and put it in. I'll see if I can get a filter for people with allergies. I brought another load of things from the old house today and I think I only have 2 or 3 more trips and it will all be here - I'll be so relieved to get it all in here. Then the fun will start trying to sort through it and put it away. I've already decided if there isn't a place for an item then it needs to be donated or put in the trash. I really don't need to store things and take up room with them if I'm never going to use them. I'll be happy to get my belongings pared down. I was thinking how horrible this whole move would have been if I hadn't already done several declutterings over the last several years. I have a pile of things at the old house ready for donation too. And my DB and I will be going through the few things left in the house to see if anyone wants them. I've been so spoiled with not having to go out driving very often, the traffic has been terrible this last week with all the holiday shoppers out. I figure it will be better next week. Hope your preparations for Christmas are coming along and that you both have a good weekend. Take care

CJ - yes they do make HEPA filters for air systems, and perhaps they might help. I know they also make air fresheners that are odor absorbing but I am unsure how they work or if they are effective. (Think Walmart sells them) . Also well as you clean and bring in your own stuff I hope that the odors subside, and that you are able to rest well tonight. What a rough time of year to move- with all the traffic and extra vehicles on the road. How nice it will be to see spring arrive in your new home!
Ruth- when do you think you will have Dh’s afghan done? Great idea that I ought to go after Disney for any additional fees. I expect nothing from them other than the purchase price and their shipping fees. Were you able to get any housework done, as you had hoped?
Today went ok- well enough. Think all my wrapping is done- and I can put that stuff away. I am very thankful for that. I did get out for breakfast with friends this am- a lovely time away with good company.
Hope you both sleep well.

CJ, yes with extra traffic due to it being the holiday season makes this move even harder for you. I'm so glad your family is pitching in to help.Too bad you don't live closer. My dh, a few years back, bought two hepa filter units which we ended up never using. It would be way too costly to ship them anywhere and I wouldn't like taking them to the post office but if you were near I'd give them to you.
Ginny, I'm glad you enjoyed the outing with friends. How did the doctor visit go?
Well here's the story on dh's afghan. I was working on it the other evening and he was looking at it and we were talking about the star stitch I had used for some of the rows which didn't even look like the star stitch because it turned out too bulky even though the person who designed the pattern thought it was beautiful in her video,so dh said "that's for us isn't it". So I had to tell him it was actually for him as a Christmas surprise. So we looked at other patterns and he liked the V stitch. Then he said that I should work on the grandchildren's requests first then after that do the blanket. So that's what I'm doing. I expect to get the requests done by Jan 1st.Nice thing about the v stitch is that it's fast esp in this chunky yarn
Sleep well

Hello Ginny - I'm glad you got all your wrapping done and that you had a nice breakfast with friends. I guess your grandkids are getting excited about Santa Claus coming Ruth - It's funny that your DH figured out the afghan was for him, but it's great that now he has said he liked the V stitch better and that you'll have to time to work on that after Christmas. Thanks for all your input on HVAC filters and all the tips on getting rid of the smell. I do feel that it has gotten better or else maybe I have just adjusted to it being at the rental house more. I'll see how it goes in the next week or so before I decided anything on the filter. I brought more things to the rental house today and that's just about it for what I want to bring, maybe one or two more trips. Hopefully in a few weeks most of the stuff in the old house will be out of there. Then I hope it won't take long to sell. I'm anxious to get all the boxes unpacked and everything put away, but I know it's going to take time. I just have to work on it each day. This morning I moved all my quilting fabric together in one place. It's a mount of fabric, but maybe not as much as I thought it was I'm hoping to get some metal wire racks to stack my fabric on, I always wanted to do that. Take care

Hi CJ, It's great seeing you here. I'm glad to hear that you have almost everything in the new house that you wanted to take there and it's great to hear that the odor seems to have dissipated or else you've become used to it. I hope you will soon feel very comfortable in your new home. I have wire racks for my yarn. I have, in fact three of them (not mentioning what other things I have in the craft room that I have yarn sitting on) But the wire racks are great and would be even better for fabric.I used to have fabric on another wire rack in a different room but when we first got a computer prob back in 1991 dh spent a lot of time in there and he smoked so all the yarn got ruined before we realized what was happening with it. You won't have that problem Weather here was nice earlier but now the temp has fallen...more than usual for this time of day and I can see snow coming over the mountain. I guess most people would be happy with that but, of course, not me. I haven't yet done any crocheting today because I've been baking.I made foccacia bread and pumpkin pie and scrubbed sweet potatoes to put in the oven while those things were baking. I hadn't made foccacia for several years until day before yesterday and dh liked it so much that he asked me to make another.I'm looking forward to pumpkin pie and loads of Cool Whip (store brand) Now I think I'd better go and make some real food.

Ruth, I buy store brand cool whip all the time and never notice a difference…it all tastes great to me!! Enjoy that pumpkin pie- personally I am not a fan of that at all, but just prefer pumpkin mousse because it is not a concentrated pumpkin taste. Funny that DH did figure out who the afghan was for…and yes, I agree that you should get the other gifts done and then can work on the afghan for him.
CJ- sounds like a great plan to store your fabrics on wire shelves. I would think that your allergies would be a good indicator if the odor is dissipating. Are you feeling any better? How is sleeping there going? I pray for your sake that it becomes home soon and also that your house sells. With spring Market not being too far off, you should be in good shape to put the house on the market and hopefully sell quickly.
Yes the grandkids are getting excited over Christmas. I am looking forward to seeing their reaction from their gifts. Hope that tomorrow I can get some quilting time in.

Happy Christmas Eve to both of you - hope you have a wonderful day Ruth - Your foccacia sounds good. Hope you enjoy your pumpkin pie Ginny - I'm sure the grandkids will love their gifts, hope you enjoy the time with them I don't know what is wrong with both of you, but I'm a Cool Whip person all the way I never even thought about buying store brand, but I'm sure it's just as good. I'm hoping I can bake my gingerbread later. I need to go to my brother's house for a few hours this afternoon, but then I thought I'd make it after that (or else tomorrow morning). I like to eat a few pieces when it's warm. Concerning the wire racks, that is always how I wanted to store my fabric and supplies, so I'm hoping it will work out that I can have the racks all along one wall and that will store up a lot of things. This morning I organized the batting and pillow forms I have putting them in the closet in the sewing room. I also moved a few things around in this room so it's not looking so overwhelming to me. This room will be a combination sewing room/office, so I need to get everything in there and set up once the furniture gets here. I'm hoping to have time today or tomorrow to get things a bit more straightened/organized in the dining room where we have stacked/dumped all the other things I moved down here and I still have things in the bedroom to put away. I've just been so tired from all the driving and carrying boxes I haven't had time to do anything else. It will be nice when it is all settled. Today is the first day in two weeks that I haven't had to drive the round trip of 45 miles. I'm sleeping pretty well in the bed, but it is a big adjustment from my really soft, out of shape, mattress in the old house. I think I might need to buy a mattress topper and see if that softens it up a bit. I guess I'm adjusting to the smell since it hasn't seemed to affect my allergies the last few days. I think the really test will be when I'm in the house for several days in a row and not going out anywhere. I had thought about buying an air purifier too, and I might do that. Take care and have a wonderful day

Happy Christmas Eve to both of you and those stopping here to read. We got snow starting late last evening but probably only about two inches, maybe 3.And it really is not all that cold...35 degrees. We'll have several days of this then it will be warmer again
CJ I do really love Cool Whip. I got this brand because the price of the real thing has really gone up a lot here and this brand was on sale and there was a coupon so it ended up being only fifty cents. I like a lot of it on my pie. I'd probably never eat pumpkin pie if I didn't have coolwhip real or otherwise to put on it. I hope you do get your gingerbread baked. Do you put anything on it. I know I mentioned my mother baking it and making lemon sauce but lemons are another thing that are a ridiculous price. If cars could think I'm sure your little car would wonder what was going on that it's driven so much lately. I'll be happy for you when everything settles back down again.I think I remember that you bought that car just after I bought mine. I bet your's doesn't have much mileage on it either. I bought mine in sept 2018 and it has 1800 miles total now.If we hadn't had to go over to the other side of town many times for dh to have his doctor visits and tests we would have a lot less.

Happy Christmas Eve!!
Ruth- I am with you and do buy store brand of cool whip. Seriously I do not notice a difference. I was happy to see that the store brand was on sale today- and I did buy a tub of that in case I make a batch of pumpkin mousse. Hope that all you got was 3 inches of snow, and therefore not much to clean up. I am almost afraid to ask how your neighbor is, who would help with your snow removal. I remember he has cancer and was not doing well.
CJ- especially if you are not used to it, driving 45 miles a day is stressful. (When I babysit it’s almost 30 miles round trip, plenty long enough). Glad you got to spend time with your family. Bet it’s nice being closer to them! I figure you will find a good way to multi use your spare bedroom between office work and quilting. It would not surprise me if you changed your mind a bit as far as how you store things, although it sounds like you have great ideas for storing your quilting supplies.( what I mean is sometimes I start with one idea in mind and then come up with something else as I try to put a plan into practice. I hope you can comfortably negotiate your quilting room soon and get back to sewing!
Lovely church service this am and I did get the “stems” pinned together for the tulips. Actually it’s the leaves and they are so cute.
Pastors sermon this am was perfect for a hurting world….. a blessed Christmas Eve to all.

I'm glad the sermon was one that would be helpful for all that wonder what is going to happen in the future and what our world is coming to. Yes our world is hurting mostly because our leaders are not what they should be. God is in control though and knows our future. We are in His hands. It's great that you got the leaves done on the tulips. Our neighbor is actually doing pretty well. I haven't seen him in awhile and need to call or go over there and check on him. I didn't have much hope for him but one thing his illness did was show him the power of prayer.
