Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good morning all! DB got a bit better by the afternoon so that was good. We sat outside for a little while. I was going to treat myself to delivery pizza for my birthday which did NOT work out! I suppose that pizza place is suffering from lack of workers like so many other restaurants. Finally cancelled the order and got carry out from another restaurant. I'm going to the gym this morning since I didn't get to go yesterday. Then I'll do laundry and I'm going to clean out the bathroom closet. Hope everyone has a great start to your day! Murphy

DH & I drove to the lake to walk yesterday morning, the weather was warmer, but still nice. We stopped at Walmart on the way home, stocked up some stuff, picked up some discounted canning jars. When we got home I picked green beans, cherry tomatoes, and a cucumber that was hiding near the ground. Also watered the porch plants. Then lunch and couch time. Yoga was good, it was nice to see the regular folks again, as well as the instructor. DH ordered a pizza for dinner. He had trouble figuring out how to get it delivered so he texted me to pick it up after yoga. After dinner I stitched (working on Pittsburgh Steelers stuff) and watched the last episode of season 2 of House of the Dragon. I was in bed by 11, but had trouble falling asleep, so I read more.
It's a sunny, pretty day. Going to yoga at 9:30, may can green beans this afternoon.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Sorry DB was not having a good day, glad he was better in the afternoon. Sorry your birthday pizza didn't work out.
Vicki- So glad that your woman's retreat/workshop was amazing, Rylee/DSIL had a birthday celebration, DD closed on the new house. Sorry about DH's B/P. WTG doing the Zoom meeting and planning to stay within your points.
Cindy- Glad the addition of chicken to your mac and cheese soup worked out and OTC allergy meds are helping. Liminal sounds like a nice place to be. Yay for Ainsley losing weight, it is amazing the tiny places they can squeeze into. Enjoy the True Crime documentaries.

Went to the gym and the laundry is done and I've purged the bathroom closet. Well at least I've purged OTC meds. My insurance plan gives me $100 a month in their OTC stuff so it's easy to make sure that all of that is still good. That's a good benefit!
Amy - I'm glad you got your delivery pizza! LOL. I had placed my order with Domino's. An hour after placing the order, it was still showing in the "prep" stage. I called and after waiting on hold for at least 10 minutes, I got someone who obviously had some disabilities and she was almost crying saying that she was the only delivery person and she was late because she was trying to nap. It just kept going on so I said, cancel the delivery and I'll just come pick it up. I got there and after waiting 10 minutes, they were just starting on my order! I said just cancel it and went to another restaurant and got carry out! Not a very good birthday supper! LOL. I should have just cooked something on my own! Seems like most restaurants are struggling with having enough staff.
Jan - has your company left yet?
Cindy - love it when leftovers some together for something yummy!
Nothing else going on here today. I'll pull something out of the freezer for supper. Tomorrow I will go to the gym and then I have a routine dentist appointment. Then I need to run by the library because my library card is expiring. Hope everyone has a great rest of your day! Murphy

Hi friends! I’ve been so lazy, haven’t worked out in the am the last 2 days—my workout partner is sick. I do have camp tonight though I just won’t stop eating. Ugh. Ugh and more ughs!

Good Afternoon!
Broke down some boxes to get into the trash barrel then walked about the yard. The grounds are so cracked and there is no rain in sight. I have sprinklers in the front and run them periodically and think tonight it is needed. My lawn guy was scheduled to mow today but nothing has grown so I canceled though felt badly because this is his living. I'm thinking that I will ask him to tear out the dead bushes because I doubt much will grow for next week. At least it would be some income. As I walked about I pulled out some weeds that gave me no problem. I didn't have to kneel down thankfully but have been practicing kneeling on very thick pillows in the house. It makes me sort of sad that I bought soil and mulch back in April and then was never able to use it. I will get it done one way or another! I need to get stuff cleaned up before all of a sudden it is cold!
Murphy, so sorry about your pizza. No one delivers in our area unless it is a door dash driver which means a great tip! Maybe you can get a pizza with your brother on Thursday. Woot for doing gym time! Glad it is a routine dentist appointment. I think I need to hire you to purge my cabinets. I feel my house has exploded with stuff. I need to wake up saying today is the day to dump stuff. I was really happy the meal came together. I need to use up stuff in the freezer....need to organize by dates stored.
Amy, hope you enjoyed the yoga class today. Do you meet daily? Glad the regular people showed up. Are there other classes you are interested in? I have three or four Hallmark movies taped that I need to watch. I like the mystery ones aka cozy mysteries. I always get asked if my TV watching interferes with my sleep...I just rather stay up reading a book. I'll need to check at my Walmart for discounted canning jars, not that I do canning but use them to store stuff I buy in quantity.
Carole, understand the ugh! DS can eat anything but it leads to bad habits for me. Enjoy camp!
I need to do a deep dive into the pantry and count what I have. Too much stuff gets shoved to the back and forgotten plus I get on a jag of eating something and then just stop. Stuff that probably shouldn't be in the pantry is taking up space. All in all, I need to get rid of stuff, not only food.
Wishing everyone a wonderful evening!
Hugs, Cindy

We ran errands before lunch, ate lunch, I made the potluck three bean terrine before the electricity was cut and then while we were dark did my nails, and Mounah came down with news updates that were dire of pagers exploding and thousands injured and some dead. The rest of the day was spend tuned into news updates and I never got online to check in with groups. Today's potluck was cancelled and cards tomorrow in Tripoli might not happen. We will see. We are fine where we are and I am glad we were not in Beirut yesterday. If there had been wine or chocolate in the house last night I might have succumbed...but there WERE chips and crackers and I didn't even consider nibbling on them so...perhaps wine would not have called to me. Who knows.
The Visa for Mounah has all the paperwork completed and it has been ready since our daughter was here in May or June BUT the documents and his passport and all the rest can't be submitted via ARAMEX till October 9. I have heard that visas are being denied more often for those who are older or from Arab countries...even if they are married to Americans and have had multiple visas and multiple year visas in the past. We will see what happens and once he has a visa (or doesn't) we can plan trips but doubt we will travel together.
BELLA is fine and seems to enjoy the cooler weather...as I do!
Hope you all sleep well tonight and wake refreshed in the morning.
