Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning. There are a lot of leaves down in the woods, so it's starting to look like fall. When we got back I puttered for a while until it was time to go for my haircut. When I got out of the car, a very friendly yellow lab came bounding up like I was a long lost friend. Turns out they were trying to figure out where she came from inside the salon. One of the girls took her to a local animal clinic to see if she was chipped, turns out she belonged to the manager of the clinic and her name was Daisy. My haircut turned out well, hopefully it will look this good when I do it. After the haircut I went to Walmart for a few things, had a little couch time when I got home. We had grilled hamburgers for dinner with some corn from Walmart and the last of the ears from the garden. After dinner I watched the last episode of this season of Emily in Paris and some more of the recorded Emmys show. I stayed up later than I should have reading, but slept well.
It's mostly sunny this morning, in the low 60's. Looking forward to going to aerobics in a little while. There are 2 hummers chasing each other around the feeder.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, tracking, AF. Yay for being home and things getting back to normal after your friend leaves. Glad you're still talking.
Vicki- Yay for seeing Rylee on her birthday and going to see the new house. WTG for staying in your points, getting activity, and the scale coming down.
Cindy- Glad you ranted with us about your friend, it's good to get rid of that toxicity. It's one of those situations where you know she needs advice, but isn't going to listen, so you just have to let her do what she's going to do. You can't control what happens but you can try to control your reaction to it. Hugs!
Cathy- Glad you can hunker down and stay safe from what's happening.
Murphy- Hope all is well with you.

Happy Halloween! Final weigh in:
Good afternoon all. Tomorrow there is no excuse and it's time to get BOT. I was up by 5:30 this morning so we could leave for the airport a bit after 7. I just heard from my friend that she is on the ground in Oregon. We had a great time but I am so ready for some quiet days, better food choices and just for getting myself back to "normal". DF can eat anything and is skinny as a rail, doesn't work for me. At the orchard bakery yesterday we shared a giant chocolate muffin, then bought mini pies to bring home to have with custard later. Bought caramel dip they make for apples too. Everyday was sweet bombs, tons of carbs, not enough steps and I'm just feeling blown up. I know it will be fine in a few days but I need to get it back in control. Now that she's gone, the rest of the pie and extra muffin will go out. I also tasted the caramel and it's just not "great" so it will go out too. I'm still scrolling through all the pictures the folks from the reunion are posting on facebook and our class website. At least now some of the faces have names and I can remember more of them. Already seems like a long time ago. One part of the trip I really enjoyed was going to the Wright Brothers museum and bike shop in Dayton. I learn a lot that I had no clue about. We went because DF grandpa had written about walking over to the bike shop as a boy and seeing what was going on. He would go down by the levee on the Miami river to watch them practice getting their glider off the ground. Of course many of the neighborhoods where her early relatives had lived are pretty old, some really run down, and some were a bit scary as we didn't really know what we were getting in to when we would just look up a street and head there. Guess I better get done here. I came home from lunch and knitting and took a nap. Need to get some more steps in today and then figure out dinner. Will check in tomorrow. Jan
Amy Looks like a quiet day here. Thanks for starting us. Glad the dog had a family and that you like your hair cut. Hope aerobics was fun this morning. Yay for yoga still getting a good turn out. Any more issues with the smoke alarms?
GG Yay for seeing Rylee and getting to go see the new house. Is this the first you've been there? Yay for the scale going down.
Cindy Rant away. Sounds like you DF is still living a bit in a bubble with some different ideas than a reality check. Maybe just give her a wider berth for awhile. A pantry purge is always a good thing.
Cathy Thinking of you on your hilltop and hoping you are staying safe. Sorry all the fun has been canceled for now and hope all of your friends are safe too.
Murphy Figure you are with your DB today. Hope he had a better day and you could go out together.
Waving hi.

Hi All!
One tiny little vent, lol. Yesterday she was telling me about her tire being low because the light showed on her dash board and she had the tires checked and they were fine. I told her it was the sensor that needed replacing. Oh no I was wrong....somehow she believed that her spare tire was connected with her four tires and the spare was low. Guess who was right...but she told the Toyota dealer that the sensor was messed up and she set them straight, very proud of herself.
I'm taking all your advice and taking a BIG break from her.
On a totally different topic my SIL called me today to say she was selling the house and moving into an apartment. It is a renovated Mill with brick walls, high beams...my dream apartment....and it is for 55 years and older. She was worried I would think she was letting my brother go. Nope, think it is a very smart move. My brother took care of most stuff and she has been having problems having repair people return her calls or show up. Her lawn person is doing a lousy job and she was getting worried about winter. I'm glad she took her time to make the decision and I think she will be much happier. She told me that she is keeping my Mother's china which I thought was very sweet. My brother asked if they could have it when my Mom passed away and of course I said yes and take the silverware. Felt like adding, do you want some of mine? She is giving her DS and DSIL her Lenox Christmas China. She seems at peace and I am wishing all the best for her. We talked about how lots of my memories are of my brother and family at their house. DS was quite shocked...not the right word but can't come up with another one. He is happy for her but he has so many happy memories visiting their house and being with my brother. I think when we move away we think everything stays static...not so.
Amy, I appreciated your words about my interaction with my friend...it is definitely toxic and I do need to step away. She lives two hours away now but hasn't let go of her "life" in this area. After doing the drive to the Celebration of life I would never do the drive willingly. I wish it looked like fall here! I'm so glad the Lab was returned to the owner and glad that you liked your haircut. How different is it? Your dinner sounds delicious...I made a wrap with honey ham, pepperoni and Swiss cheese and added lettuce for a vegetable...at least the flour tortilla was low carb. Hope aerobics was fun and there was a good group!
Jan, so good to see your post. Glad you and friend are on good terms! I'm lucky I don't have any friends who can eat anything. Pat yourself on the back for throwing away stuff that isn't satisfying. Yes it might be $$ but you tried something and it just didn't work. Did you reconnect with anyone that you would want to stay in touch? The Wright museum sounds really interesting and the bike shop. We did an abbreviated tour of Frank Lloyd Wright homes (know it is a different Wright, lol) when we visited my SIL's family in Wisconsin. It was very interesting.
Carole, Congratulations! 31 years! How did you and DH celebrate? I have no idea where time goes. I will be sharing something and then realize it was 20 years ago but seems like just a few years ago.
Cathy, very glad you and DH are safe and on your hill. Love the FB photos of you and Bella!
Hi Murphy, GG, and Liz!
It was hot today. It is suppose to be a hot weekend. Not getting over 100 but 98/97 isn't great.
My most exciting news is I broke through my psycho fear of kneeling and knelt down three times today on the rug and there was no pain! Had a bit of a problem getting up but so be it. I'm not ready to brave tile floor or yard but was really happy I could do it without wearing my brace. Baby steps!
Sleep well everyone!
Hugs, Cindy

Had a quiet day at home yesterday and spent time in the afternoon on the back patio with Bella purring on my lap while I read. It was calm and relaxing and I did not miss playing cards at all. We might go for flu shots at the pharmacy today if they are still scheduled and ready to give them. While out and about would pick up produce and perhaps a few other things.
AMY: Glad that the friendly dog's owner was found. I have been cutting my own hair for a few months and may go to the beauty salon next time!
JAN: pies...oh my! I am glad my temptations were merely smashed baked salty pretzel chips and bruschetta baked slices!
CAROLE: Congratulations on your 31 year anniversary! 🎉
CINDY: Glad you are able to let go of the toxic friend a bit - some people are like black holes sucking our energy instead of blood-like-vampires. How nice to have been able to kneel without pain!
Murphy, GG, and Liz - thinking of you and hoping you are doing well.
