Good Morning, Challengers
Yesterday Tues I did all 6 of my main HHs, ate in my 💚 zone of pts. I had 3 meals, 0 snack, used 15 pts. We walked 2.2 mi after breakfast.
My “KISS” HHs (Keep it Simple and Specific) for yesterday: - Do at least 10 mins of PT/ST: N - Avoid salted snacks: 💚 - No “seconds” with snack: 💚 - No eating out of a container: 💚 - Limit phone after 9 pm: 💚 - Evening: “Snack on Inspo”; Read prayers, quotes, whys and goals: 💚 - FFFE (Food-Free Fasting Evenings): 💚 - JGTB (Just Go To Bed) around 10 - 11 pm: 💚
Yesterday on our walk I had a bad pain in the top of one foot and it kept getting worse. During the day I iced and elevated it and looked it up. Sounds like extensor tendonitis. I’d had some smaller pain there in the recent past but thought it would pass. One of the things that cause or aggravate it is too tight shoes so this am I loosened the laces a lot. I had tightened them a week or so ago because I thought they’d been getting too loose. This am it feels OK. One of the things recommended is rest, but I’m hoping I’m ok enough to walk. Another thing that can cause this is peripheral nerve pain so I’m going to try OTC alpha lipoic acid capsules which DH has had great results from with the peripheral nerve pain in his feet. I took it yesterday. Our Dr had said before that I could try it because I have some plantar fasciitis pain as well.
KELLY - GJ with the 2.3 mi yesterday. I understand better now about your new job situation.
Be well, and take care, for ourselves and for each other.

Good Morning, Challengers
Yesterday Wed I did 5/6 of my main HHs, ate in my 💚 zone of pts. I had 3 meals, 0 snack, used 16 pts. We walked only .2 mi after breakfast.
Yesterday I tried to walk but I was limping to avoid aggravating the tendonitis, so I decided to try the 5 days of rest that is recommended from what I read. Bummer not to walk. But foot pain is a bigger and potentially longer term bummer.
It rained yesterday afternoon and this am temp is 29.5 and frost is on the ground. Because we didn’t walk, DH was able to do some outside work before the rain and I got more work done too. I need to make time for PT/ST.
KELLY - GFY with the 2.39 mi! Yes - I guess we’re both built in the “tough it out” mode. I toughed out the hip pain too long before seeing an ortho surgeon. 🤷🏻♀️🧐
Be well, and take care, for ourselves and for each other.

Good Morning, Challengers
Yesterday Thurs I did 5/6 of my main HHs, ate in my 💚 zone of pts. I had 3 meals, 0 snack, used 15 pts. No exercise.

I almost made time for PT/ST before dinner but just didn’t want to and got immersed in something else. There’s always something else….
The contractor is here to finish the last bit of wildfire damage repair to the cabin, but the front deck he put in has problems - warped planks sticking up. One is really bad 🤷🏻♀️.
⚾️ World Series starts today - Go Dodgers! I’ve been a Dodgers fan since childhood, because my Granny was a Dodgers fan. DH adopted the Dodgers when we got married, and then we adopted the Angels, but he’s a lifelong Yankees fan, so it’s complicated.
Praying for a great niece and family in MS, my Sis’s granddaughter, age 16, in hospital, intubated, with strep and pneumonia.
KELLY - GJ with the 2.2 mi. Have a nice weekend!
Be well, and take care, for ourselves and for each other.

The contractor did some work and will be back some time next week, weather permitting.
This am I attended my weekly WW virtual workshop. The topic was how to deal with our higher points fave foods. They summarized the approaches as: Skip it Swap it Shrink it Savor it
My Sis’s 16 yr old DGD in hospital is diagnosed with toxic shock syndrome, bacterial infection with low blood pressure, kidney function impaired, but kidneys are functioning now, lungs slowly clearing, but still on ventilator. Weaning off bp meds 🙏
Be well, and take care, for ourselves and for each other.

Fri I made lentil, veg and whole grain soup and we’ve been enjoying it 🥣. Our soup seasons aren’t what they used to be since we spend winters in SoCal now.
Yesterday DH cleaned the gutters, which were full of debris from the burned trees. He was motivated because of rain prediction. Sure enough it’s been raining since early am and more to come. Feels like cozy hunker-down time.
Sis’s DGD has been showing improvement but is still hospitalized, still intubated, as far as I know. 🙏 Wed when she was taken to Dr her BP was 68/40 and by the time she was settled in ER it was 37/7.
Last night I was tempted to eat a snack, but I definitely wasn’t hungry, and I didn’t want to re-energize the old night eating habit. I remember and can visualize how that would make me feel. I worked through it with prayer and meditation 🙏 and my mantra type reminders: “It is Enough.” “I don’t do that any longer.”
I’m reading “The Hunger Habit” by Judson Brewer, MD, PhD, a research scientist, professor, psychiatrist who works with people re anxiety and addiction, and I love this bit in the book:
—- “To be clear, to anyone who has struggled with the “eat carrots instead of cake” and “calories in, calories out” issue, pounding carrots sounds a lot like a first-world problem. If only they could just get in the habit of pounding carrots! The reason I bring Tracy’s story up here is that the pounding is the problem. How we eat is more important than what we eat. If we don’t understand and face upstream issues, we’ll forever waste tons of energy downstream and end up frustrated and defeated, wondering why all of our effort isn’t showing sustained results.
It wasn’t about the carrots. It wasn’t about being hungry. She simply had “anxious energy” in her body and needed to crunch on something. She also noticed that process of crunching on something had to be repetitive to help soothe her as she was doing her homework. She needed to be able to easily reach, grab, and crunch, without the process taking brain space away from her studying. As she learned how to explore her own experience with eating, she discovered something big. She reflected later, “That was the first time in my life I realized I had anxiety.” She hadn’t associated anxiety with eating carrots. She simply crunched carrots as she did her work.
This realization was the beginning of transforming her relationship to both anxiety and food. Like my patients who were struggling with binge eating, Tracy wasn’t eating when she was hungry. She was feeding a feeling.
How important is this evolutionary hiccup?
When we link our evolutionary survival engine up to the mood train, the train can quickly build steam and momentum until it is out of control. Driven by an antsy feeling, we feel a magnetic pull to the kitchen late at night for a snack. We don’t even know if we’re hungry (and we often aren’t), we just know we want SOMETHING. We gobble down cookies in the break room not because our stomachs are grumbling but because we’re afraid of being downsized. We add another scoop to our bowl of ice cream after being ghosted by a romantic interest because nothing heals—or at least distracts from—feeling rejected like Ben & Jerry’s or Häagen-Dazs ice cream.” ——
I especially loved this statement; “When we link our evolutionary survival engine up to the mood train, the train can quickly build steam and momentum until it is out of control.”
That’s my experience in a nutshell. However, to be clear, I also know that for me the “pounding” is not the whole problem. The type of food I eat is also a major issue for me. There are a slew of foods and ingredients that are triggers for me for overeating even when I’m not particularly stressed, emotional or anxious: sugar, salt, fat, dairy, most ultra processed foods.
Be well, and take care, for ourselves and for each other.

Good Morning!!
I added 7.56 miles Friday through Sunday.
Saturday we took a drive to one of the State Parks. The foliage was beautiful. I hiked one of the trials.
Yesterday, I went to Church, picked up some items at Sam's CLub, got lunch, walked, and finally relaxed the rest of the day.
Cait: Good job on your HH's. Glad you're resting your foot. Bummer about your deck, definitely should not be doing that.
So sorry about your sis's DGD, but glad she is making improvement.
Interesting read.
Waving to all!! Happy Walking!!

Sis’s DGD still in hospital, still sedated, intubated. They’re suctioning fluid from her lungs but her vitals are improving.
My foot is doing better. We’re planning to try to walk this am.

Good Morning, Challengers On Tues I did all 6 of my main HHs, ate in my 💚 zone of pts. I had 3 meals, 0 snack, used 18 pts. We walked 2.1 mi after breakfast. Yesterday Wed I did all 6 of my main HHs, ate in my 💚 zone of pts. I had 3 meals, 0 snack, used 17 pts. We walked 2.2 mi after breakfast and I walked .1 mi taking out the trash before dinner, so 2.3 mi for the day. My “KISS” HHs (Keep it Simple and Specific) for Tues & Wed: - Do at least 10 mins of PT/ST: N - Avoid salted snacks: 💚💚 - No “seconds” with snack: 💚💚 - No eating out of a container: 💚💚 - Limit phone after 9 pm: 💚💚 - Evening: “Snack on Inspo”; Read prayers, quotes, whys and goals: 💚💚 - FFFE (Food-Free Fasting Evenings): 💚💚 - JGTB (Just Go To Bed) around 10 - 11 pm: 💚💚 This am I did my end of month weight, 146.2, down 2 lbs from end of last month. Grateful for the stable weight in a healthy range. Yay Dodgers! ⚾️😃🎊🎉🥳 Yesterday we drove to the valley, 2 hrs round trip, for an appt but the person didn’t show. They got transferred away and forgot to let me know. I should have called the day before to confirm 🤷🏻♀️. But it was a beautiful drive! We saw a flock of 6 wild turkeys just a few miles upriver. The maples and oaks are putting on a show. In the second pic you can see a little of the river in the bottom right of the pic. Sis’s DGD still in hospital, still on ventilator. Her lungs still have infection but other organs are OK. They are trying to wean her from the sedation but she panics with the ventilator. The Drs believe this started as a cold, and she got Strep A, and that infected her lungs, which became pneumonia, then turned septic and spread through her blood to all her organs, leading to toxic shock. My foot is doing better but there’s a little pain with each step. I’m icing it and my arthritis swollen knee 3-4 times a day. I decided to take ibuprofen 2x/day for a week or so to see if that helps reduce the inflammation. KELLY - GFY with the 7.56 mi Fri-Sun. So glad you and Leroy could go to the State Park - I love seeing the Fall foliage too. That’s one of the nice things for us at our cabin - more seasonal changes. In SoCal the changes are less dramatic. Be well, and take care, for ourselves and for each other. Cait

Nature’s Halloween Trick: “Dead Man’s Fingers” mushroom. Posted by Missouri MO Conservation. Night of the living dead?! Nope, it's dead man's fingers ... but still just as terrifying 😱 Dead man's fingers is an eerie mushroom that grows at the base of rotting deciduous trees. As the fingers mature, they grow and become even more finger-like and grotesque!

Good Morning!! I added 7.20 miles I enjoyed my days off with the DH. Tuesday Sadie and Emma one of the cats went to the vet. Sadie is doing well with her diabetes. She lost some weight and her insulin dose was decreased. Emma had a good check-up. Wednesday took Leroy to Shady Maple Smorgasbord and in the evening we got to watch his grandson play football. Both the 7th and 8th grade team won. Yesterday, we both went to the ophthalmologist. I do not need to go back for my narrow-angle glaucoma until a year.
Also, got a lot of deep cleaning done and got rid of more stuff to donate.
The days have been beautiful, sunny, and warm. We really need rain. Cait: Good job on your weigh-in, HHs, and your walk. Praying for a complete recovery for Sis's DGD. Thanks for the pictures. They are beautiful and the mushroom is freaky. Waving to all!! Happy Walking. WATP/EX: 123.56 Tracker miles:209.29 2024 WATP/EX miles:686.45 Tracker miles:1140.25
