Thank you Ginny for the start,
It was very nice this morning but I think DS turned the a/ c on. our temp. will reach 96 or 98. I my make a trip to the store later. I had a blood test on Friday and my iron is low again so I have to double up on my iron. Of course that is why I am so tired all the time and it has been an on going problem. Anyway I am waiting for someone to call me back. Last night I started crocheting a b/blanket. I am going to do the V stitch again and I have lots of Lion Brand Pound of Love. I did send Lion Brand an e-mail suggesting they use larger print for pattern instructions. I am waiting to hear from them.
Do you have plans for the 4th? Devin is going over to his other DGMs, her husband is Man of The Year over where they live. He gets to ride in the fire truck and he is taking his grand children and he includes Devin so that will be fun for Devin. This man is very good to Devin. I am not sure what will be happening here at home. I was told that DGD was planning something.
Have a great day.

Hello Ladies. Thank you for starting us again Ginny. It's always good to see all of you
Meg, last night I saw your message about losing your post. That's so frustrating. Yes I imagine that Devin will have a great time on that fire truck and with the ohter children. Congrats on starting a new baby blanket. It's hot now but it really won't be long until those blankets are needed.
Last night I started the sling for the little guy to carry his stuffed animals in and I also started a blanket for one of the dolls for the girls. I'll finish those and make two more blankets and a couple clothing items for the dolls too.
Late last night I made a strawberry/rhubarb crisp after it was cool enough to bake and had a bag of what they called popcorn chicken in the freezer so I cooked that too.It looks more like chicken nuggets, It's nice large pieces with real chicken meat inside not that ground up stuff they usually have in those. Kroger brand and it's really good. Dh has those to snack on now. Tonight I'm going to make a cheesecake maybe. I do have a few things made up in advance now with the chili I have on the stove so maybe I won't make the lasagna I was thinking of making. I was only going to make it to use up the rest of the container of ricotta I'm making the cheesecake with.Dh likes the ricotta kind, I like the cream cheese ones.
No plans her for the 4th except to maybe watch the fireworks from the front porch. We can see only the higher ones but that's fine. It's not worth it to us anymore to drive into town at night.
Have a great day everyone.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I hope your iron level comes up, I'm sure that will give you more energy. That's a good suggestion to have the instructions in larger print, some of them are difficult to read. I hope you enjoy working on your new blanket. I'm sure Devin will have a great time on the fire truck tomorrow, that's great he gets to do that. Ruth - Your crisp and cheesecake sound good. I like the cream cheese cheesecake better too. I hope you can see some fireworks tomorrow. We used to always go see them when I was a child, but I haven't seen any in person for years. I can hear the booming noises from ones that are nearby though. Ginny and Phyl - Hope you are both doing well. I'm slacking in the crafting department, the heat makes me difficult for me to be motivated. I'd sure like to get my Solstice quilt top put together, so I might try to focus on that this week. I'll need to square up the blocks first though, because I could see they were different sizes. I'm not that strict with worrying about accurate seams, so I pay for it with an uneven block Take care everyone!

Hi cj, Devin was talking about what he would wear when he rides on the fire truck. He said he wanted to wear his British T shirt because the colors where were red, white blue. So we had to tell him he couldn't do that. But he just didn't understand because his British shirt had the right colors. He has a British flag hanging in his bedroom. I am an American citizen but all my relatives are British.. We have our American Flag out front to celebrate the 4th.
I hope that Lion Brand will make the print instructions in their patterns larger.
Ruth, I will get in my car and drive to see you and have some rhubarb / strawberry crisp.
DGD arrived home from work with lots of stuff for tomorrow so I guess we are going to BBQ and whatever. Perhaps some fireworks in the driveway.
Have a good evening.

Good evening!
Aw CJ- its ok if you are slacking at crafting...you get so much done in the fall! I agree, square up the seams as well as you can so that the quilt top goes together evenly.
Ruth, glad you are able to watch fireworks from the front porch! How neat is that. Brace woman, making cheesecake and chili in hot weather. My cheese cake recipe calls for cottage cheese and cream cheese- it's very high in fat and sugar but what cheese cake isn't?
Meg, glad you got an easy to fix answer to why you are tired. Hope that the extra iron kicks in soon and you are feeling much better. Hope that Lion brand responds to your query.
Spent way way too much time (hours!) trying to resolve an insurance issue with Dh, who refuses to talk to insurance companies himself. After a long long time on the phone, I think its being resolved. Let's hope.
Off to embroider Ginny

CJ, you'll get the quilt done sometime so don't stress yourself over it. If you want to just relax then you should do that.
Meg, I hope the iron you're taking will do the trick so that you don't have to have the infusions again. Devin is funny. Little kids just don't understand these things about different countries, etc and the Revolutionary was. And Meg, I'll be looking for you and will get out the good china to serve it to you on.
Ginny, my dh won't talk on the phone at all. I finally got the doctor's office to talk to me about his labs etc but on other things the companies want to speak to the actual person involved. It sure makes it hard doesn't it.
Gotta go help dh.I got the stuffed animal sling almost done.

Good mornng and Happy Independance day!
Phyl, bet you are glad to have that baby blanket finished! Did you end up blocking it /figured out how to do it? (My mom used to make a big ordeal over blocking....I am much less stringent on following a process to do so). Sure hope that you can sleep well tonight. No one likes to toss and turn all night.
Ruth-is the stuffed animal sling done? Indeed it is frustrating when our spouses refuse to deal with insurance companies/billing offices and the like. That is where I was yesterday. I had to ask for permission from each entity to represent my husband- a learned skill when I was handling all my mom's affairs the last 2 years of her life. Fortunately, most entities cooperated. Perhaps there is a form you can complete or someone you can speak to about handling your husbands business/health issues so that you are not stymied and frustrated each time you have to represent your DH.
Watched a little TV last night and got some embroidery done. Think we are heading out later on....hope everyone has a great day Ginny

good morning crafters, we have no plans for today. not sure if we might bum for awhile. I have my second load of laundry in the washer. only have two loads.
no I have not blocked the blanket. just need to do the sides. I am going to try and steam block it. watched you tube. remember the two scarves that curled ? a friend told me to block any other ideas? I don't I don't have a place to lay out and pin to block.
you tube they say not lay the iron on the garment. I was thinking of trying what mom did when she ironed at times. take a white tea towel and wet it and then press. what do you think?
I have to weave in the ends of yarn before I can block the bb. I will lay the bb on the table before blocking. lays ok then won't block.
enjo your day today no matter how you spend it. phyl

Happy 4th everyone.
I am having a lazy morning. I haven't slept very well the last 2 nights. DGD & Devin are off to a parade and Devin will get to ride in the fire truck. He went off in a blue shirt withsomething American on it. The British shirt stayed at home. Later today we will BBQ and perhaps let off some fire works in the drive way, But I am not sure about that. It will be hot outside so I will stay in doors. The younger folk can go in the pool to cool off. I will probably work on my b/blanket.

Phyl, what kind of yarn is the blanket made with. Some patterns call for blocking even though you use synthetic yarns but blocking acrylic or polyester or other synthetics is actually a waste of time. And there is always the risk of melting the yarn even if you are careful not to put the iron right on the yarn itself. Acrylics, etc really don't respond to blocking. Only way to kind of block them is to just wash and dry. When I made the first scarf for my dd I used wool ease which had 20% wool and the edges curled so I tried to block several times and it didn't work at all.I thought with the little bit of wool it might work but it didn't.
Ginny, dh and I do have forms for health matters but often when I call they can't see the form then finally they'll say they see it under the banner. Whatever that means. It's in the computer info of course.I should get some kind of thing for his insurance, etc. Thanks for mentioning that
Yes the stuffed animal sling is all done. I made the first blanket I started into something else and started another one. I forgot how pretty a blanket it makes when you alternate rows of plain double crochet and rows of x stitch.
Gonna go make dh some lunch. See you all later and have a great day

the yarn is caron simply soft pound of love baby yarn. it is not as fine as some baby yarns. the scares were made with homespun by red heart. will never use that aga in.
can't find the label for the bb. maybe it is not simply soft. it is a caron yarn baby veragrated yarn. probably is acrylic. phyl

Phyl, homespun is beautiful but what a bear to work with! I agree with Ruth, just wash the afghan and lay it flat, shaping it into the square or rectangle that it should be. Should you feel compelled to "iron"- a cool iron with a damp towel over the afghan and then press, not slide the iron. Back to homespun, many swear they will never work with the yarn again- its tough to see stitches and you have to use a huge hook to crochet with.
Ruth, congrats on finishing the sling....the new blanket sounds pretty. What is your color scheme for it? For me, the insurance thing came crashing on me when Dd#1 was in college, when she kept on getting sick- she would see a doctor at home and then 3 weeks later a doctor at school for the same thing. (She went to school 2 hours from home so it was not always possible for her to come home). The doctor at school would bill for the same service at the doc at home- but sometimes the codes got messed up or the insurance could not figure out what service was being done. The doctor at school would give me NO info on her- yet I kept screaming at them that they better give me info if they expect me to pay the bill! Finally, after a lot of difficulty, I was able (from the EOB) to take the medical codes, call the doc at home and ask them what she was being treated for etc....Dd was not trying to hide a thing from us, it was the insurance company and the doctor at school that were uncooperative and using different codes. Finally when Dd #2 and Ds went to college. I begged both of them to make sure I was listed as a back up to discuss their records. It was good practice for the last 2 years of my mom's life, when I was, for better or for worse, making a lot of decisions for her well being. thankfully in this present melee, I have already been authorized to talk for Dh. Now just have to call his drug coverage company to secure authorization to talk to them on his behalf, and I will be set. this HIPA thing is a royal pain!
Dh and I just came back from a brief trip to Knox headquarters, where they had a nice reenactment from the Revolutionary war. Very appropriate for today, of course.
I am tired and want a nap. That ain't going to happen though. Hope everyone has a great day.... Phyl, I like your avatar. Ginny

Yes I think all Caron is acrylic. Homespun is terrible for crocheting. It's a lot easier to work with when knitting. I have a bunch of it that I haven't used yet.I started a prayer shawl with it for my sister in Law a few years back. I'm pretty sure it was in 2010. She had MS. SAdly she died and I still don't have it finished and it was really easy because it was a knit, no purls.I said, too, that I was never going to use homespun again but since I have some..well you know how that is. And I recently saw a couple nice patterns using it so who knows when I'll ever get to it but someday I'll start something else and just have it lying here to just pick up while watching tv or whatever. One of my dgds said she wanted "a really thick blanket" so I may take two strands of the homespun and do the same as with the prayer shawl...all garter stitch...all knitted
No plans here but the reenactment sounds really interesting.
Ginny, on the blanket I think I might do a color block thing. I started it in yellow and I think I may make a wide block in white. The yellow is pretty but maybe is just too much yellow. I never make anything in yellow for real babies because it makes them look jaundiced and many times they are anyway and it just complicates things. This is pound of love yarn and I don't know how many yellows I have. This might be the only one.
On the two other blankets I'll use a different stitch pattern and a different color. I have pound of love in a couple shades of pink, some in blue, some in green, violet, and a few of the creamsicle oh and in denim color and gray.in other words in a lot of pastels and others. I have way too many in that color they were selling at a very low price and is a shade of pink for breast cancer. Meg got some too but I'm really not fond of the color. It was just too good of a bargain to pass up though and I can use it with other colors to make my donation blankets
And Phyl, I don't know if I'll ever make another knitted scarf because there doesn't seem to be a way to keep them from curling. When I made dd one for this past Christmas I made a tubular one so that it couldn't curl. That's the only way I know to avoid the curling
Meg, I didn't see your post hidden in there. Have a great day and get some rest. I'm glad Devin found a good shirt to wear. He'll have fun.
CJ, I hope you're having a good 4th and getting in relaxing and resting time.
