Short and sweet goddesses is a thread especially for us "Short n' Petite Gals". As "Short n' Petites", we have our own issues. Our goals are lower, and as we all know, a 5-pound loss or gain can make a huge difference on a Short n' Petite. We are here to support and encourage one another, so please feel free to join us!

Hi all,
Happy 4th. We saw fireworks last night.
I woke up close to 11. I haven't slept that late in years. It took me awhile to fall asleep, so maybe that was why.
We've had good weather so far. The house is on the beach, so we have a great porch view. I have already finished a dish cloth and made it through most of a book.
JoJo, yes I have to resist buying more yarn. It's addicting.

Happy Fourth to you as well,, Holly.. I went to bed so early. Last night--9! Woke up w/out alarm at 5 am so got up and walked a couple miles in the park--it was only 80 and the sprinklers were on so felt cooler even than that--was very nice. DH slept in as he had stayed up later watching a movie.
We bought pheramone collars for cats---put them on this morning---they are visually exposed to each other today--Tanzi in the office with a cat box and Sidney roaming the house for a change---we stacked two baby gates so Sidney cannot jump in--Tanzi could jump but she isn't being agressive so won't--however she is still reacting with fear signals--shorter growl. Not as bad as before so maybe there is hope.
I made chicken Chinese dumplings, Sue. Plan to boil them tonight to go with dinner---searing some ahi tuna and some steak---do you have any precautions about that part of this process? I am excited to try this---made 60 of them. Took a while to wrap but they are done.
Thinking I will make some loaves of banana bread as I don't have lots of prep for dinner and not eating till 7 pm since DD is coming and cannot get here till then. I plan to ask DGS16 to come by and see me sometime tomorrow or Thursday to get a loaf to take home to his dad's--hoping he will "bite" on this bribe as we have not seen him since he moved out of DD's. I have to talk with him about beach week--we are working on how to approach this as his choices are not welcome at the beach but we would like him to come--he has so complicated our lives.

Hi!
Happy July 4th! Gorgeous day here. Lots of parades and celebrations in the city. I live near all the historical buildings so there are a lot of tourists here all the time. Many street closings for the festivities. We don't go to these, too crowded and touristy.
Holly, thanks for starting the July thread. You must have been really tired to sleep in.
Jojo, sounds like you'll be busy with your knitting projects. Sorry about the deer eating your plants, you put so much work into them!
Joan, when boiling the fresh dumplings, you don't want to over cook the wrappers but you want to cook fully the chicken. You should put your dumplings in boiling water once they start to float and the water comes back to boil, dump out 1/2 of the boiling water and add more water from faucet to the pot, again, once it comes back to boil repeat with dumping and adding. Once this comes to boil test to make sure it's done, if not let it boil some more.
I love dumplings! My family used to spend weekend afternoon making them. My mom would make the wrappers from scratch and she would roll them out and my dad, sister and I would stuff and make the dumplings as she kept rolling.
Yesterday I met a woman who's restaurant I checked out last week, "bao-logy", Chinese baos and "burritos" and dumplings. I met her for coffee at 9am and we stayed at the coffee shop until 2pm! I wanted to know what she went through to open her restaurant. So interesting, and man, she went through so much hard work. It is really tough. She started off with a background in venture capitalist after college and soon after decided to go into food industry. She worked at one of the best restaurants in the country in NY. Her husband worked at another of the best restaurants in NYC. Now he takes care of the cooking and she is more managerial/finance.
Tonight more fireworks by the river and I'm making bison burgers with baked fries.

Joan, you should also do the dumplings in batches. Once they come out spread them on a flat surface - plate, tray - so they don't stick

Sue, I chose to do a recipe where the meat is already cooked because I did not know if I could reach you in time--figured the "real" way was with the meat raw---so do you think just bring water to boil and wait for float up? Next time I'll try the authentic way--just wasn't sure about how long I need to boil them if only trying to warm the inside but cook the dumpling.

yes, cook it like stuffed pasta, tortellini/ravioli, you can test it by taste did you use wonton/dumpling skins from grocery store?

Dumplings turned out really yummy---I only boiled 4 or 5 at a time and the first batch I realized that I left in just a bit too long so then I really did well---DGS13 helped me and yes, we test tasted! We made a dipping sauce for them as well---I have about half left so thinking I will warm up in a sauté pan like pot stickers---DD and DH and DGS loved them! I used the little round store bought wrappers--my only self criticism would be that my tsp of filling was a bit generous--would stick to a slightly smaller amount--they are not huge but I like the wrapper part to be less full. I will definitely make them again--was so fun to experiment--my filling tasted good---ground chicken breast, finely shredded cabbage and scallions with some soy sauce and fish sauce and sesame oil for sautéing the chicken.
I also grilled filets and two ahi tuna filets as well. Did both just right so felt really proud of our dinner--nice rare tuna crusted with sesame seeds and the steak was rare to med rare which they all love. I only ate tuna. Made a caprese salad platter and DGS ate two--he said the only raw tomatoes he will eat are mine as part of this salad---I introduced him to it last year and he is hooked. I made no dessert---had such a high protein dinner with the dumpling appetizers first and all the grilling--had a green salad on the side but I did not even have any--was way too much.
DGS's friend and his mother came over in time to light some fireworks they had brought with them---neighbors doing the same thing at the same time so that was sort of festive.
I am hoping DGD13 saw the PHilly fireworks---a friend of hers was in Boston and saw the Boston Pops and the fireworks and said it was such an awesome experience.
I finally was able to sleep in---till 6:30--LOL--every day I have been wide awake at 5 am--DH walked at that time this morning and I did not even hear him go out so that was good. I have been getting so tired at about 3 or 4 every single day--I just don't adjust to jet lag going from east to west. After our trip to Europe several years ago it took me about 3 weeks to readjust.

I guess everyone is really busy--am sure Holly is sitting on the beach enjoying her break!
We are in middle of stress with cats---seemed so much better yestereday and now it is worse than ever. We think Tanzi is ill and that is putting her at risk --Sidney seems to be stalking her---calling vet again today to get some meds like we put her on before because she seemed so kitten like and normal on them--anti inflammatory pain meds---kind of like an ibuprofen for animals. Will see if it helps her---next step is the Cat Shrink--125$ assessment visit and 85$ follow up and see if we can retrain them somehow--both of us are at wits end.
Skipping classes today to take my house cleaners children through security at the airport---they are flying for first time ever--going to MX to visit their grandparents who they have never met before---I volunteered to do this as I worry about the parents--and I know the kids are nervous and don't have a clue what to do. They are coming here and will follow me to airport.
Have a pulmonary dr appt today--annual because of CPAP. Will have to rush back for it.
Had my haircut in town--it looks pretty cute, color slightly different but very close---but oh, so expensive---110$ compared to $70 out of town--and that did not include highlights--if it does it is 180---OMG, how do people do that? I am torn but am really tired of driving an hour and a half to get my hair done and then back---so it basically takes most of the day when I go--and I cannot go to just anyone as my hair is straight as a stick and very thick so not easy to cut right---every mistake shows up like horrible. She did a really good cut.

Hi. I'd like to join you. I'm 5'2" and 67 years old. My weight loss before going on vacation has been at a standstill for six months. I would love to lose 20 lbs. that would mean I would be down 4 sizes. That would be amazing. I'm not sure if the problem is my medication or my age but when I come home from vacation I'm going to buckle down again. Have a great evening

Hello, Annette--you are. Certainly welcome to hop on here there are only five of us who rather consistently communicate on here and have for years. We used to have more--all of us have done WW at some point. We chat every day about whatever but all share shortness and hoping to either maintain or lose weight. I am 72, nearly 73--I am the oldest. I used to weigh 200+ but since retirement at 58, have worked hard to get in control and about 2 1/2 years ago met WW goal weight (set a bit higher by my dr.) and have gradually crept up 12 pounds---about 1 1/2 months ago I started tracking again (had quit, of course) using My Fitness Pal and I love it--for the first time I am losing without meetings--slowly--but that feels right. I am down 6 pounds so am getting close to personal goal. Last August I decided to make fitness my first goal so I added a new membership at gym into my two yoga classes I had been doing for 14 years. I now do 13 hrs. Of gym classes a week and I recently added back in my walking, which is hard in summer in Vegas as it is hot---have been getting up at 5 to walk since coming back from vacation in NYC a week ago--where we walked an average of about 9 mi a day. Here I am walking about 50 minutes most mornings. I do dance classes, weights, body sculpt, yoga, pilates and kick boxing--feeling the best I have physically in a long time! So if I can get back to a bit below goal I may stop by a WW meeting just to have the satisfaction of their stamping my LIfetime card with "at goal" again! LOL.
I have struggled my whole life with an attraction to sweets. My meals are almost always good healthful choices and then I sabotage myself with an unhealthy snack or I cave into a "don't stop till it is gone" attitude with something I bought for a portioned out treat--so I have a little sickness with that. Using MFPal has really helped because it graphs your nutrition and I am trying to stay within the calories limit I set and meet the nutrition guideline.
tonight dinner was a small caprese salad, 5 homemade leftover Chinese chicken dumplings, a few roasted beets and fresh honeydew. Have not tracked it in yet to see whether or not I can have a snack tonight.
Where are you off to for vacation and where do you live?

Hi everyone! Still raining here once or twice per day! We had about two days last week that were dry. The ground is saturated. My son's basement leaked because the ground is so saturated. They have lived there 10 yrs with no problem until now!
Had the older kids today and took them to a place called Stats and strikes. They have games, bowling, bumper cars, and laser tag. Not cheap for the kids ,especially two of them, to do everything, but fun for them. Hard to find things for them to do at my house . They are 10 and 11 yrs. old. Tomorrow have DGD11 and DGS4
Joan - you are so ambitious to make the dumplings. I wouldn't even attemp them. Wow! Special collars to help the cats get along Don't remember anything like that with my cats.
Holly -have time at the beach. Wish I was there!
Sue how did the dinner with the grandfather go. So interesting that you got to talk to the lady about starting her restaurant. How did you feel about it after talking to her?
Annette welcome to the thread! I am 70 and trying mainly to maintain at this point. I walk and do resistance strength exercises not as often as I should. I now weigh 118

Hi!
It's been rainy all week, but should be sunny this weekend.
It was nice to see SO's brother's GF yesterday. She came over and we ordered out Indian food for lunch. She loves Indian and there are not any good ones in New Hampshire where she lives.
Joan, how are the cats behaving today? Hope your dr appt went well and no problems. Dumplings freeze really well too.
Welcome Annette! I couldn't lose much weight before my vacation in March, good thing was I didn't gain. Unfortunately, I've been gaining since I came back from vacation. I really need to buckle down as well.
Jojo, that is a lot of rain! It was lunch with SO's brother's girlfriend. They dated in high school, broke up and ended up marrying other people, both divorced and last year met each other at a reunion and have been seeing each other since. Seems to be going very well for them.
Well the woman who just opened the restaurant gave me a ton to think about. I know that I don't want to work 60 hr weeks and be consumed. I don't have the energy or interest in doing that. Which leads to being in a partnership or investment position with partial involvement. I also would like to explore other aspects of culinary such as catering or pop-ups. I might try to get a part time job on a temporary basis - 4 months or so. We'll see.

Hi all,
The beach has been good, but I'm ready to get back home and to work. There's not really a whole lot to do here in the way of activities unless you drive to the towns nearby. Everyone else has been going on the beach every day. I did for a couple of days, then spent the rest of the time on the porch reading or knitting.
Sue, sounds like you have some good ideas to work with.
Joan, hope things improve with the cats. When do you head to the beach?
JoJo, they have one of those type places not too far from where I work. I meant to work on a lightweight shawl pattern while here, but ended up just finishing a couple of easy dishcloths instead.
