Good afternoon!
Phyl, what a sad story about that woman on the interstate. It's all too common a story these days- speed is usually a factor. It's in a sad way interesting that both vehicles that hit her were large, and probably driven by inexperienced drivers. In the commercial drivers manual (which you need to study to get a CDL) they mention that it's always a really good idea to use a ton of caution around Uhauls - as most drivers are not used to driving something that size. I would think that the same thing goes for campers and motor homes- even if you have driven one of those for awhile it takes a lot of experience before you truly understand the size of the vehicle. Indeed Don is right....using an extra measure of caution on the roads is in order now. Excessive speed and texting are causing a lot of heartache. Hope you had a great time in your playpen getting ready for your sewing day.
Ruth, indeed you will find a good way to join those squares. Surely there are tons of ways to join squares on the internet.. I will have to check out the extended single crochet online....but you sure sound as though you know what you are doing with it! Of course you should finish that quilt top you started in 2003!!! What size was it? With a family as large as yours I am sure someone would love to have something you quilted.
Got all my supplies assembled for tomorrow, and was beginning to walk into the self doubt zone....they of course inform you that if you do not bring your own machine you will be using a pfaff of baby lock- both of which are $800 machines. My singer cost half that....and of course they also mention a few fancy attachments. GLad I did my homework, as my machine has those fancy attachments and should do just fine tomorrow. I will be buying the fabric there (also with the gift card)- they will be holding aside a few charm packs for me to choose from. I am looking forward to the class- hope that I can keep up with it!!!
It's warm here, but breezy. All in all not a bad day. Hi to CJ and Meg. Happy Crafting Ginny

Hi everyone, I had computer problems last week actually my mouse wouldn't behave so now I have a new mouse. I stayed home most of the weekend as it is so hot. We have had too many 100+ days. I did work on my b/blanket and did quite a lot of reading.
I have a low blood count so tomorrow I will start a series of iron infusions. I have quite a few Dr. appts. coming up. What an exciting life I lead. I am grateful that I have good medical care. How are you? I will check back later to check up on everyone. Hope you can stay cool.

Hi Ginny, You are not stupid. I didn't notice that you had posted on last weeks thread. I guess I missed Phyl's post so I will have to go back and check. I hope your class goes well. It is always exciting to learn something new and we are never too old to learn.
I am being lazy this morning but I need to go and get dressed.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I hope you enjoy the class tomorrow, and get some fabrics that you like. I'm sure they are used to students using their machines, but I completely understand how you feel. I went to a class once where I had to use a Bernina and I was worried the whole time - those machines are expensive too! Meg - I hope the iron infusions will help your blood count. Ruth - Your fleece projects sound interesting. I've seen those rotary cutters to use on those type of blankets, hope it will work well for you. Phyl - That was sad to hear about the woman killed on the highway. We have a lot of that happen around here with the Beltway that goes around the city. I'm not doing much, it's too hot to do anything. I did go to a local farm today and bought some green beans and peaches. I cooking the green beans with some ham pieces in them and they taste good. I have enough to eat for a few days. Take care everyone!

Ginny, since you have the summer off you've joined the rest of us in not realizing what day it is. I have to say too that you have a very healthy attitude toward weight control. So many people thing they have to be at the lowest weight on the chart for their height. Most people do not look good at that lowest weight and it's not healthy in many ways.
phyl, that's so sad about that woman. As I said, I hear that so often. Yes cell phones are a dangerous thing to have in a vehicle but so is loud music and even eating while driving.I don't think I've ever talked on my phone while driving but I know my children and grands do. Here they allow 14 year olds to drive if it's a "hardship". Most with hardship licenses don't actually qualify at all. Having children drive is the dumbest thing any state can do in my opinion.
Ginny, I have no doubt at all that you will do fine at the class. You aren't supposed to know everything before you go. It's a class. But I'd bet you know most of it already but I would hope there will be some hints and tidbits you will pick up at the class. If it turns out that you already know what's being offered at least you'll have a good time. How many classes are there all together?
At 1pm if was fairly cool outside so dh and I decided to go grocery shopping. We did get some things...mostly fruits and veggies but mostly it was a waste of time because they didn't have much.
I'm going to go into the craft room now and check out those squares. I know they'll not real large. Maybe 4 inches square and I don't remember the pattern so it will be interesting to see what it actually is.

Good evening! CJ, set a place for me, the ham and beans sounds good! There is an Amish dish we like made from Lima beans and ham... You are fortunate that peaches are available- I am sure they are local or only a bit further south than you. How much longer is the heat supposed to be with you?
Meg, we are blessed to have you here with us! Indeed, it is frustrating to be on the medical merry go round-I pray that the infusions go well and that your doctor visits are positive steps for you- as in getting ready for your eye surgery.
Car is all packed for tomorrow. Honestly, I am not at all concerned about breaking their machines- I just do not want to be pressured to spend a lot of money on a new machine. The machine I have was given to me by our oldest daughter- I would have to come up with a super good reason to buy a new one when the machine I have works pretty darned well.
Ok enough from me. Hope everyone has a good evening. GInny

Ruth, we crossed paths! You have more confidence in me than I have. Ha ha ha Thanks for your input on weight- which I give a lot of respect to knowing that you are a retired nurse. What a blessing that your weather was a bit cooler!! It does not appear as though any of our little group likes hot weather. And statistically, it is our youngest and our oldest drivers who are involved in the most accidents. Letting a 14 year old is a hardship to everyone who must share the road with them. A young adult is not able to fully assess relative speed of another vehicle until around age 20- so 14 is really not a good age to allow someone to drive (unless its for agricultural use).
Enough from me.....hi to Phyl Ginny

It did get a lot hotter while we were out and I was glad to be home and in front of my fan.
I think I mentioned that once when I went to the quilt class I didn't have my own machine because it didn't work right and they told me to use one of theirs. I loved it but was worried the while time that something would happen to it.When I bought my last machine I told them right away that I did only basic sewing so don't try to pressure me into buying anything but a basic machine. Well I did end up getting one step up but it's still a pretty basic one.The one I had before had many features I never used and I'm sure I never will use even the ones on this machine.
Well I have the squares in front of me. They're 4.5 inches and I wonder how she made them. It looks like a single crochet was used and that it was started in a circle but somehow it immediately started to turn square and the whole thing is square with an x of holes from corner to corner. It's in an old Red Heart yarn that is called off white..not beige after all but it exactly matches my large pillow.Whoever made it did start putting the squares together with a yarn needed that's still in it using the whip stitch. And there's five skeins of unopened yarn and several skeins that were partially used and all have the same lot number. There's only four squares together and two that are partially attached and she may have given up because they weren't joining well so I might take them apart and start over in joining them.I think she was pulling the yarn too tight
CJ, the green beans with ham sounds really good. I'm not at all fond of limas so, Ginny, sorry.I'll go to CJ's house instead hahahaha
Meg, thanks for starting us. I'm sorry you have to go thru the iron infusions again so soon. Seems like it wasn't very long ago that I was telling you about the warming of your arm first before trying to find a vein. I hope it goes better this time. and I hear you about medical care. It's great to have a doctor that is trustworthy, informed, and up to date on things.

Good evening!!! Ruth, can you post a picture of these squares? They sound so pretty but interesting. Think you are right about pulling the yarn too tight, THe "x" of holes must be very striking. Hope that you are able to do something with them (I am sure you will be able to!) as they seem to be a good match to your decor. I was wondering, perchance did the original crafter include the directions on making the squares in the bag?
Ok enough from me. Gppd night Ginny

Unfortunately Ginny, she included everything but directions or a pattern. The square is like a solid granny square but it doesn't have the granny thing in the middle with the four clusters. There are no clusters at all and there isn't a discernible circle either. I know it's started with a chain made into a circle but can't tell what she did after that. I'm charging my smart phone that I never use to see if I can take a picture and post it here or send to you in email.I'm not sure the charger I have it on will do the trick. I may have to get the one for my tablet.DS didn't send a charger with it but the chargers I have, or at least one of the should do it.
Good night CJ, Meg, Ginny and Phyl...happy dreams

I did it but the pic shows up so large on here you'll probably have to scroll to see the square. I should have cropped it I guess. Wow, now I know how to do this. Learned something else new

Good morning! Ruth- thanks for trying,at least on this IPAD I cannot see the square. It could be an IPAD issue, which tends to be glitchy with some programs. Hope you did not go through too much trying to get a picture posted....
Gotta get ready to go to class. BBL Ginny
