I shop regularly at Aldi's. I actually prefer some of their products, like the nonfat plain Greek yogurt, to name brand items. They do have a customer satisfaction guarantee, and the one or two times that I used it was w/o problem. We especially like the seasoned roast beef that it's offered from time to time as a "special buy." Their lite mozzarella sticks and turkey sausage sticks are 1 SP and make a great grab n go snack when I add fruit or carrots/ celery sticks.

Only buy blueberries in season (June here) at Aldi's when they are on sale. Year's past they always went on sale to 99 cents. This year due to shortages in the south, cheapest was $1.39. We freeze gallon bags for use all year.
TJ's is too far to drive. Keep planning on an outing but haven't made it.

We have Trader Joe's in central CA but no Aldi's. Our TJ has great service and products. Produce varies but dairy products are very good. I buy more than half of our groceries there.

I took an annual leave day today, so after reading these posts, I decided to swing by Aldi's. I used to shop there for my mother when I would visit her in Pittsburgh, but have never been to any of the stores in Nashville because there's not one that's really close to me.
The parking lot at 2 pm was virtually empty, but big and clean. The store was clean and well organized; produce was decent looking, and the meat looked better than Wal-Mart's. Most of the brands are Aldi's house brand and/or German and European brands. When I was in Austria almost 2 years ago, I observed that Aldi is similar to Kroger. Not really a discount grocer in Europe.
I bought a jar of baby dill gherkins for .99 (quelle bargain!), low fat cheese wedges (a la Laughing Cow) for $1.29, Rainier cherries for $2.99, and a roll of paper towels for .49 - total with tax was $6.09. I tried the cheese wedges when I got home, as well as the cherries. Couldn't tell a shred of difference between the Aldi brand and Laughing Cow, and the cherries were ripe and sweet.
There's a TJ's near my house in an area with heavy traffic and poor parking. I would rather stick a needle in my eye than go there, but I make a trip over there a few times a year. I don't think Aldi and TJ's have anything in common, really. Aldi is a discount grocery store for basics, TJ's has more specialty items and is more expensive.
