JoAnne, next time you see your doctor why don't you ask him to prescribe a nebulizer---whenever I feel a cold coming on I use it---it keeps the cold from going down in my lungs and triggering my asthma---I would not be without it---as a result of it, I hardly ever get a cold that lasts more than 3 days or so---I used to have a 2 month recovery every time I had a cold cause it would go down and start the coughing and wheezing. It's an amazing tool for those of us with RAD.
I am dressed for the gym---eager to get at it again! It is cloudy, dripping and totally windy---not a nice day at all. Today is DS's birthday---the one in SLCity. Tried to call him but no answer-=he is probably out in the wilderness hiking or snow biking or back country skiing---he is such an outdoor junkie!
OMG, we saw Fun Home last night on stage---I totally prepped to see it because last year when headed to NYC I read a bit about it---decided if I wanted to really enjoy it I needed to be prepared---so I read all the lyrics as I listened to the songs on Utube and I read the summary---insisted that DH at least read the summary---I'm so glad I did---it was probably one of the best five plays I'e ever seen---so moving---I was sobbing during the last song---it was ingeniously staged---anyone who does not understand the horrible emotional damage of being gay and having to pretend otherwise should be required to see it---plus if you love the stage, it's really great. Some people who I follow on FB were bored---have a feeling they went without researching the play first because it's fairly complex--the main character is on the stage represented by three people all the time---little Allison, college aged Allison and 35 year old Allison---anyway, if you ever get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it but with prep in advance to fully appreciate what is occurring in front of you.
WE ar going to organize my hobby area in the office today, get the mattress out of here and I will also make chicken leek soup---plus my two hrs. At the gym---pretty much takes the day. Need to read my book tonight as book club is WEdnesday!

JoAnne, how frightening to fall like that on the ice---you are so fortunate not to have broken a bone this time!
Sue, I would so love to have dinner at your house but I confess I'd want to watch you work!!
Holly, thinking you are at work today with no students?? I would loved to have had returns from long breaks in elementary school with a day without the kids to get back into the swing of things---my whole work life the Sunday before returns from holidays I spent the whole day at work getting organized and ready for the onslaught of full attendance!
Ok, I gotta' get busy and cook the chicken for my soup before I go to the gym at 10:30. Hope everyone has a good day! DH read that today 49 out of 50 states have snow in them! That's a big blanket of snow!!

Hi all,
I started back at work last Tuesday, but we have today off due to the snow. I love snow, but after the time off over Christmas, I'm ready to get back in a normal routine. Students start Wednesday.
Going to walk uptown to the coffee shop and run errands in a little bit just to get out of the house.
JoJo, glad you are feeling better.
Sue, no I didn't. I think they just stuck around the house. I don't like people sitting around me when I bake because I don't multitask very well and need to concentrate.

Joan - glad you enjoyed the play. We go to the theater Thurs.- a comedy. I prefer the inhaler as I can carry it anywhere with me. The studies have shown that it is slightly more effective if used properly. (difficult to get some to use it properly). What I need is a controller drug like Advair which I used to take every day but quit quit a few years ago when I seemed to be so much better. I should have asked the urgent care MD for one but forgot. I have been using it when I get sick in the past. I have only been going to this PCP for 2 yrs. since mine retired. I used to be able to call the PCP and tell him I was sick and he would prescribe it for me. This one won't - he doesn't really know me well. The other I worked with in the hosp. for 20 yrs. I could have and probably should have gone to the pulmonologist but didn't. I changed to a medicare advantage plan with my insurance and now have to pay a $50 co-pay for specialist. The $50 would have surely been worth it!
I hate the snow (sorry Holly) and could live without it forever -- especially around here where it usually turns to ice. It is warming up some this afternoon (42) but I'm still waiting for the ice to melt. My sidewalk and front porch steps are still solid ice and the driveway is still pretty thick too.

JoAnne, I was on Advair for a couple years---and then I dumped it cause my annual bone scan changed drastically over two years in one area---when I read one possible side effect it included loss of bone density---so I got off and never went back---but yes it definitely managed my RAD---I however was on it every single day, two or three times a day I think. I only use the nebulizer when I am starting to get sick or have an actual asthma attack that i worse than a quick two puffs on my inhaler.
Was so good to get back to my classes---am going to do a few of the core things I've been starting to do before I change clothes. Have my veggies sauteed for the soup and the barley is almost cooked---thinking we will just have soup and salad tonight.
Still very windy out but no longer cloudy and rainy.
One of my Christmas cards came back---no stamp!!

Joan- the bone thing is why I got off of the Advair. What I do is take it when I get sick for 1-2 mo and taper myself off of it. My sister takes Singular, not so bad for your bones, every day and it helps her. Singular works more on the allergic component of the disease. Maybe that is what I should talk to him about.
Tonight had Hawaiian Talapia, green peas, and sweet potatoes cooked in the air fryer. Made a good meal.

Hi!
Really cold today. Kind of had some stomach issues, don't know if something I ate but I'm fine now. I met with the young woman - sous chef- at the restaurant I'm interning at today. She had to fill out a form for me and she showed me around. Wow, I never realized how many people worked back there. There are actually 2 restaurants next to each other with the same owner, one more expensive, the other (where I'll be) more casual, but more adventurous in some ways and Bon Appetit had named it one of best 10 restaurants one year.
Joan, happy birthday to your DS! Glad you enjoyed your play, did your DH like it as much as you did? I'm surprised that the playbook didn't include some info on what the play was trying to do.
Jojo, I'm not fond of cold and snow either.
Last week I told SO to just go look at the house in Palm Springs and he's leaving tomorrow. He's going to see it on Wed or Thurs I think. He is already having second thoughts of living out there, so we'll see.

Good morning! Slept last night on the queen air bed on top of my platform and DH took the guest room as we sold the tempurpedic yesterday---only got $175 but guess that's more than zero! They got such a deal.
Our mattress does not get delivered and set up until after 6 tonight which is sort of weird. Seems late.
Just set up DVR to record the new PBS series, Victoria---it sounds really good. Starts Sunday on Masterpiece I think.
Finished my book--Man Called Ove---oh my, it was really good! BF said it best---you hated to finish it because you wanted more! I hope they make the movie really true to the book with really good casting.
I have my regular yoga today and then am going out to lunch with WWBF and yoga friend who both have January birthdays. Haven't decided where yet so must call them both and figure it out. Have my clothes packed to change into at the gym. I bought a little sweater dress this fall in CA when I stayed with Molly---OMG, I am getting so much use out of it---I love wearing it in this weather with tights. I have looked for a sweater dress for years---finally found one that does not have a turtle or cowl type neckline which I cannot wear with this short neck of mine.
Sue, will be anxious to hear what SO thinks of the house actually seeing it---I personally think you'd be very lonesome in Palm Springs---it's not really a city---but at the same time I actually have never spent any time there---just passed through.
Am pleased with myself for doing my new chair exercise routine last night before dinner, and my 30 seconds of sitting and standing---I can do 29 sits in 30 seconds now---so maybe I'll get to 30 before the 19th when we get tested. I saw these core exercises on FB that you do in a chair and I'm really liking them---I saved the video and just do each one the 30 seconds long of the video---eventually I hope to get to where I can do them 2 or 3 times which would make a really good workout.
How are you feeli9ng today after your fall, JoAnne? Did you get sore? Or bruised? Have you heard of an Instapot---Cruise BF's daughter in law got one for christmas and she said it's great for fast cooking---a crockpot, pressure cooker, etc., all in one---just wondered if anyone had experience with it?

Sue - glad you are better!! What a great opportunity for you to intern. Didn't realize you would be doing that. Did you have to find your own internships or does the school set you up? Glad it is somewhere that you are interested in doing. I don't know a thing about Palm Springs. Is it a resort type area? If he is having second thoughts, has he looked anywhere around where you live now?
Joan - I didn't fall, thank goodness - just slipped and slid but was able to regain my footing and got back on the dry area,. This weather is crazy. Everything (except our front porch steps and sidewalk) melted today. I guess those areas still frozen just don't get enough sun. It went up to 56 today. I took a walk to day. Felt so good to do it! Good that you are still doing Yoga! Great that you can be comfortable in a sweater dress. Even with undergarments that are supposed to control the lumps and bumps, I feel very lumpy and bumpy in such an outfit. I do have one sweater outfit that I have had since the 80's that is 2 piece with a long skirt that I do feel comfortable in since it is loose enough and forgiving.
I have seen the multiuse pot with an infomercial on TV. Looks good. I have not considered it because I have all of the individual appliances, Sounds like a great idea though.
Tonight we are having "chicken nuggets" - trying to use up the ones I bought when DGD was visiting. Also having steamed broccoli, and Parmasan yellow squash.
Had appt. with our financial advisor and accountant today. We will be 70 1/2 in the summer and have to start withdrawing from our IRA's; so needed to discuss that and other things.

Morning all,
Really warming up here weather wise.
I feel like yarn just tangles itself to spite me even when I wind it with a ball winder. I'm working on a lightweightnshawl, and finally just had to cut out the tangled yarn because it was ruining the yarn trying to work out the knots.
Classes start today, let the craziness begin.

Holly - I always roll my yarn by hand - never do the pull skeins, they always tangle. Sounds like you roll the yarn too. I have seen some inventive homemade yarn feeders on line but have never had the inclination to use one as mine usually does ok when I roll it. You might search online. I am speaking of things like the top of a liter soda bottle (the bottle which is cut in half and to top part used) with the thread fed through the hole. There are many other examples but can't think of them. Good luck. I have recently seen some covers for swifter mops that are made out of cotton and can be washed and reused. Everyone says they are great to use. I want to make some but have to wait til I can get some cotton yarn. There are many different patterns and are easy.
Temps here are in the high 60's the rest of this week and even into the 70's soon. Dreary and overcast though.

Hi!
Fire alarm went off in my condo at 4:30am this morning, we all went down into the lobby, firemen came. A sprinkler leaked and caused the alarm to go off. We had switched to a dry system last summer and so now the sprinkler people are coming back to figure out what went wrong. I did manage to go back to sleep for a few more hours.
Joan, did you sleep on the new mattress? Hope you had a good lunch with friends. You are doing great with all your exercises!
Jojo, I found my own internship. The owner was in my same class in college (although I didn't realize it until 5-6 yrs ago). She owns several successful restaurants here and 1 in NYC. Palm Springs is resort area.
Holly, I'm feeling overwhelmed by school/internship already.
Last night was my school restaurant class. Restaurant will open next week for lunch/dinner on Wed and Thurs. My class is dinner service. This week is just getting menus established and going over all the things we have to do. Tonight we have a knife skills practical (test) as well.
So the house was nice but SO was not 100% comfortable with it. Midway into building the house for this couple, they must have changed their minds about living here, because the materials/finishes, although still very nice, became not top of the line. He will see 2 more houses with the realtor tomorrow, but I doubt he will like those. I'm glad he went to get it out of his system. Although now he's back to thinking about Napa, La Jolla, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara areas.
This is the first time I've had the house to myself for an extended period in over a year! I'm enjoying it but miss SO.
I always think that the multi type pot things try to do too much, such that it does everything not the best that it can be done than by a machine that solely does one thing very well.

JoJo, my favorite are hanks that come in a figure 8 twist. I got a yarn swift for Christmas, so I tried it with my ball winder. Going to do it by hand with the swift next time.
Sue, Napa sounds cool. I was hoping we would make it there when I went to San Fran, but didn't have time.

Sue - scary situation when the fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night - and ofcourse the sleep interruption, I'm sure, is a bad thing. Glad it wasn't serious.
If and when you move, will it definitely be to the West Coast?
Sounds like you certainly have your plate full with school and the internship. Maybe the internship will turn out to be more fun than work!
Got a lot done today - took a walk, changed the bed sheets, blew and raked the yard, watched the confirmation hearings. Looking forward to going to bed early - was up at 5:30a.m. for some unknown reason this morning.

Need to go get ready for book club---driving tonight with 3 and possibly 4 others riding with me---makes it fun as we chat all the way there and back. Tonight I put newspapers on the seats and cannot wait till they get in---the main character was a curmudgeon about his car so always made people sit on newspapers---it's my little joke---and was so funny cause we don't take the newspaper and for some reason they delivered one to us today! DH was going to go out and buy one for me! LOL
Loved getting back to the gym today--yoga first and then weights class.
Jean's son just left---he and his brother brought me a beautiful bromeliad in bloom---three large stems---hope I can keep it alive. Was very nice of them to do that. We sat and talked for a while---her daughter is unable to go back into the house yet---but needs to go and make a few decisions about perhaps saving a few of her mom's things for herself. I am going to call her this weekend and see if she thinks she could if a few of us went with her to help.
Sleeping was okay---different from the tempurpedic ==I think I did better than DH cause he waited till bed time to figure out his sleep number and I tried to tell him to work on it
