We are having book club at BF's---she and I often provide the venue and others who are working either cohost or host and bring all the food but dessert---so the person who stood me up last month and left town on the wrong week (remember I didn't realize she'd gone and had to fill in and do all?) volunteered to host at BF's---just got a call from her---she is running behind---still cooking---book club is less that an hour from now and she is 30 minutes away from where it it---so guessing the food will be coming late---This person is my former school psych.and she just really needs to quit working---she retired and then had second thoughts and is double dipping doing a "half time" position---but she doesn't know how to do half time so she still cannot get things done and is always running behind---her health is not good and she really does not need the money---so sad because she gets so stressed and cannot seem to pull off work and other things. I have a bad feeling she will get lost getting there as well ---usually she rides with me but she won't be ready and I have a car full.
Sue, how long is SO going to be gone? I love to ramble about in the house alone on the rare occasion that DH goes somewhere!
It is still windy---that makes about 4 days of wind now! No freezing temps like some places, no snow, no flooding but honestly I am tired of the wind---just cannot get a walk in in this.
Holly, that thread tangling thing is so frustrating---the few times I've used yarn I've had that issue---it can happen so quickly. I love that little carved bowl with the hole in it for yarn---have seen it on pinterest and FB a couple times---seems it would work pretty well.
No idea what DH will do about supper tonight.
JoAnne, I really thought you had fallen on the ice--glad you didn't.

Hi!
I'm having a totally relaxing day! Will have to do some homework though. Sunny and warm here. Instead of gym, I'll do some errands. Weight is 122, so that is down from high post holiday of 125.
Eating is going to be very erratic with my schedule this quarter. Yesterday for instance, I had coffee in the morning, some crackers right before leaving for school in the afternoon. Yesterday was souffles for Dessert and Plating class, and I had a few bites of my lemon souffle. It turned out really good flavorwise, but I didn't leave it in the oven as long as my teacher told me to (he said 5 more minutes and I got scared that it was getting to brown at 3 min so took it out).
Jojo, I think internship will be less stressful than school, since I'll just be "helping" probably mostly prepping food, whereas in school I have to prep/cook/present my own creations.
Joan, how was book club? Was your friend very late with the food? Funny coincidence how the newspaper got delivered to you.
SO is coming back on Sunday. He saw 2 more houses yesterday and totally not interested in them. Now he is thinking more along the lines of Los Angeles, there are areas that are very walkable. I'm not holding my breathe that he will find something that he'll love for the money he wants to spend on it. Although he's willing to spend a lot more on the new house than our old house, everything is so much more expensive there.

Good morning, Sue---well, early afternoon, here! Have you made lemon curd before---mine didn't firm up enough---tastes delicious but will have to be used as a semi thick sauce over lemon cake or something similar. No idea what went wrong as I made it two years ago and it was perfect. But I , too was nervous about time cooked---went by the thermometer but I think I should have waited a bit more---the recipe said to bring it right. Before simmer so I was worried about over doing it.
I am trying to eat more protein---had tuna sandwich two days in a row---open face on English muffin toasted---was so good---I boiled some eggs and am going to have a deviled egg for a snack this afternoon---have a facial appointment in an hour.
So happy to be back in my gym classes---today was dance and weights---we used stretchy bands---I use a really heavy one and am getting stronger and stronger---need to find a heavier one for home---still adjusting to the bed---made it a bit softer last night---we did not get the kind with pillow top on it cause of worry about it developing a sag but maybe with sleep number it would have been wise---the changing of the number can keep adding more support in---nice thing tho' is that we could add on a cushion type thing---and it may just be after tempurpedic years we are going to have to adjust for a while---BUT I did sleep really well last night on the new setting---OMG, had the shock of waking up at 8:30! That's so, so late for me!
Cost of housing is super high in CA---I love CA weather but that's why there's so many people there!!
Just tried to talk DH into going to the gym with me next Thursday---the Cleveland Clinic is coming over to meet with anyone who wants to take their memory test and listen to their presentation on aging, memory and things that work against dementia and memory loss-=--DH said an emphatic, No, he said, "I already know I am losing my memory more than you and it bothers me and I don't need to feel worse about it,". I was surprised---because have noticed a few things and did not know if he had.
Feeling sad for all the many who may be without healthcare---it's amazing to me that there are people in our country who think they will not be affected cause they have ACA insurance instead of Obamacare! That seems to be the heighth of ignorance! I know several people who have insurance for the first time ever and they will be left out in the cold unless an alternative is offered that is affordable.

Hi all,
It has been a really productive week. I touched base with everyone I'm working on projects with, and have a much clearer path forward. Had a really good meeting with the coworker I have mentioned before about online library stuff.
Joan, I am on the university's insurance plan, but it has been getting harder and harder for them to sustain good coverage. With all of the medical stuff I have coming up, it really scares me about future coverage.
Sue, good job on the weight. What happened to Napa and Santa Barbara area?

Sue = sorry that your SO is is not successful in his endeavors! Glad that you are feeling less stress and that the wt. is down 3 LBS!!!
Joan- your friend sounds like she need use some of her own psych. advice and get her life in order! Hope she got there with the food.
Holly - great that you had a good week. Always makes me feel good when things are productive!
Larry had his surgery today on his artificial eye socket. They took fat from his stomach and put it in his lids to keep the socket from looking so sunken. Also did a slight blephroplasty on the upper lid because he could hardly keep it open any more. Right now he has quite a black eye! He says that the wound in his stomach area where the fat was taken is the most uncomfortable. We got home about 11:30p.m. today. He goes for follow-up next Thurs.

OMG, JoAnne---had no idea your DH was having such an intense surgery! What happened to his eye socket---DH just shared with me that he had an uncle who had a reconstructed eye socket but he also has no idea why---it was years ago.
My former sch. Psych did make it to the book club meeting---but BF, who saw her first, said that she was afraid she was having a stroke or something---she was so stressed she said her chest and neck were beet red and stressed breathing---she did get lost on the way---I was driving when she called so told her to call BF who guided her there---so we all did a little mini intervention---everyone said, enough---resign from this "part time" job that is keeping you up till 2 or 3 am even tho it is part time! One of my former teachers who is now principal basically said, if you were to die tomorrow, they would find someone to do the work by the next week---she is feeling indepensable and of course none of us are. It's a weird combination of ego and sense of responsibility---and she is literally going to kill herself---she has already experienced two TIA's and her mother died of strokes---has high blood pressure, sleep apnea, is overweight, doesn't exercise---all around living on the edge! One daughter has five kids, all young, and she drives to Provo once a month to help with the kids for 4 days---amazingly this daughter's husband is a multi millionaire and she has 2 full time nannies and this woman feels she HAS to have her help! Must be a name for this sickness!
Sue, what is your SO's interest in moving out west motivated by? Just curious. He seems to have so many connections where you are.
I just medicated Tanzi with some valium---she has cut way back on eating the past 2 days---she will be starving in about 15 minutes!
I want to go see a movie tonight---want to see the one about the women who worked for NASA. I've heard it is a fabulous movie. Heading to the gym for my sort of pilates class---lots of people take it so have to be there early enough to be up towards the front or I don't hear the prompts well enough.
I had BF and her DH over for dinner last night---BF didn't want to come because she didn't like the sound of what I was making---for the first time ever I made Shrimp and grits---OMG, it turned out so yummy! I will definitely make the recipe again---it had a lemon garlic sauce---just 1/4 cup of parm. Cheese in the grits so wasn't terribly unhealthful other than the carbs of the grits.
We played cards=---I terribly lost the first game, lowest score, and terribly won the second game!

Hi all,
Just finishing up this shawl and watched the Carolina game. I did the bike for about 25 minutes.
JoJo, hope he feels better today. My blind eye is pretty much closed all the time due to lack of use, which is ok with me.
Sue, I know you will be glad to have SO back.
Joan, dinner sounds yummy.

Hi!
What an annoying day. Something happened to my WIFI, spent an hour on the phone with Verizon and someone is coming tomorrow. I found out that a Verizon guy was in our condo this morning for one of my neighbors and it seems every single time someone comes ours get screwed up.
Also, someone got stuck for an hour in one of our elevators and discovered the phone in the elevator did not work. Elevator people coming tomorrow to fix.
Finally, I went to ups to send my passport out to renew and I didn't realize that ups can't deliver to po box so then the guy said I could go to the post office, that they were open. Well, I got there and they are closed on weekends!
I did manage to get some homework done, but no gym. I was on my feet for almost an hour walking and doing the errands though.
Joan, I have made lemon curd. Did you cook it long enough? I usually cook it over very low heat because I'm always afraid of curdling it, and with the lower heat it always takes longer. I make shrimp and grits often, I love it. I usually marinate and grill the shrimp, sometimes I wrap prosciutto around the shrimp. Great that you're getting stronger with all the strength training that you are doing!
Jojo, so glad the operation went well. Hope he will recuperate quickly. I see Falcons are doing well so far!
Holly, good job on the biking! Seems you and the friend are getting along just fine.

Joan, SO relaxes only when he's in the sun, it is therapeutic for him I think, turns his mind off stresses or any unhappiness. I encourage it for him. So ideally he would like to be in yearlong warm weather location.

Sue, I knew you had answered my question about that once before but I had forgotten his reasons---makes sense. Last night DGS16 talked to DD about depression---he feels he is depressed and wanted to know about her life with this and how the anti-depressants work on the body and why---she has been on them for about 6 years after about 3 months with no sleep and almost falling apart---DGS16, DD and D=my DH all have similar issues---and winter triggers the worst of it---lack of sunlight---and this year we have had so many days of cloudy weather lately plus the short daylight. DH of course, is much better since quitting alcohol---but still the winter months create more of a problem---it's funny the three of them are so much alike---have a bit of obsessive behaviors as well. DH is now obsessing on tv carriers---this happens in about a 3 year cycle---he's threatening to dump DISH again and switch---he calls every company---including DISH and talks about it all a lot---will be interesting to see what happens this time.
Sue, so frustrating to be on a mission and have that happen---closed PO, etc.
HOlly, have you been using your new bike regularly?
We took the chicken noodle soup I made yesterday over to cruise BF' s for lunch---he had a bone spur removed from his shoulder Thursday so is recovering from surgery again.
Tomorrow I am having our friends who travel extensively over for dinner---making baby back ribs. Anxious to hear about their bike tour of Vietnam over Christmas! She is the one from Netherlands.

Sue - sorry you had such a lousy day! Why do some go like that! Joan - Yum - chicken noodle is one of my favorites! Holly - hope the shawl came out good! I haven't crocheted for a while now.
DH's eye area is really black now - but always gets blacker and bluer before it gets lighter. He hasn't taken any more pain med since the first day - amazing. aI think he has probably needed it but wouldn't take it. His abdomen is bruised now also (only on one side). We just sat at home yesterday and watched some Netflix movies. Will do the same today. It is his birthday today - we'll celebrate with the kids week after next when DDIL gets back from Arizona. Her brother has had surgery for kidney cancer and she will be gone from Monday Til. Fri. to help out with him. I will help with the kids next week - picking them up from the bus, picking the little one up from the nursery, and preparing dinner. DH will go with me over there.

Just got back from a walk. It's some 70+ degrees here now!
Looking at that picture of me with the gray hair. It does make me look so much older but what is, is. I'm not going to go back to coloring it I have decided. My older sister (by 6 years) looks younger than me now!
DH slept til 1:00 today! I was getting worried about him and finally woke him up with lunch.
It seems strange that there is no yard work to do after the Fall and early Winter with having to blow leaves and pinestraw every few days.
Joan, I have seen the trailer for that movie and it does look good. We will eventually probably see it.
Wish I had some cotton yarn so I could start the projects I want to do with crochet. --Thing is that I am lazy and don't want to go out to Michaels to get it! I have plenty of other yarn, so just ought to start something else with it - but don't know what.

JoJo, I've ordered yarn from KnitPicks.com. Sounds like he needed the rest. Healing is hard work.
Joan, glad the movie turned out well. My mom is going to see La La Land today with some girlfriends.
The shawl turned out well. Trying to decide what to do next. I have some silver alpaca yarn that I need to wind into a ball.
I brought my books over from my parents'. I kept a lot of the classics I read for my English major. Might read them again one day. Hard to find the extra mental energy to read anything of substance these days with work.
It will be warm this week. Why can't we just have a regular winter anymore without all of these extreme weather changes?
