I'm thinking Sweet Tarts - wasn't there also the single giant ones you could get?

Gosh, I can't think of a sour candy I ever got into. Did they even have sour candy in the 50s and early 60s? My memory says everything was sweet sweet sweet.

My memory says everything was sweet sweet sweet. Yes, even Lemon Drops were more sweet than sour. Sweet Tarts were mildly tart but sour patch kids were even better. And, in a different way, Hot Tamales were great. I also can't keep those in the house because I continue to eat them all day long until they are gone. Pathetic.

This is one timeline I found showing when various candy products were introduced.
Candy Timeline
Sour Patch; Gummies...both came out when I was in my 30sβwell beyond childhood (at least my first one). No wonder I never experienced them.

zazzles that is so cool! Thanks for posting. "1893 Quaker City Confectionary Company, located outside of Philadelphia, introduces Good & Plenty which goes on to be the oldest branded retro candy still in production" dang, I had no idea they had been around that long! and my other absolute favorite "1950 Sam Altshuler creates The Annabelle Candy Company, named for his daughter. His first product is the Rocky Road Candy Bar."

I had never heard about this, so very cool of them!
"1990 Hershey sends 144,000 heat-resistant candy bars to soldiers in the Gulf War. The formula is identical to what they sent to soldiers in WWII"
And why aren't hot tamales or jolly joes listed?!? Hmmph

"Hot Tamales is a chewy, cinnamon flavored, oblong-shaped candy introduced in 1950 β manufactured and marketed in the United States by Just Born, a family-owned, Pennsylvania-based candy company."
Jolly Joes: 1973
