Good morning! Hard to believe this is our first thread in January! Wishing each of you a happy, healthy and craftilled year! Meg, thanks for getting us all together here! I am thankful for each of you! CJ- the open toe foot you have is your quilting foot- that is what you would use to stipple with, either a stipple design (feathering for example) or random design. Think you posted about slow Sunday, what a cool idea! When I am back to work (which means tomorrow ) I will be lucky to get much crafting time in at all. enjoy your warmer weather.....30's is a bit cold for where you are. Meg and Ruth- Ok, I know you both posted, and I have forgotten what you commented on! (This happens to me all the time....) I'll go back....and be back in minute! Ginny

Well, Meg, there is not much better than a good book! Sounds like you are in the middle of a good one,if it kept you up for so long.....How is DGD adjusting to living in Florida?
Ruth, well, the room that the orange tree comes in from the cold to is unseated, although it does get some residual heat from the rest of the house, so that it does not freeze. Do you grow any rhubarb?
Ok, enough from me for now. I switched afghan patterns (due to the problem with the edge) and am going to stick with a ripple. I do not have a ton of time for this project and have to use my time wisely.
Think I am going to pick those oranges and get busy with marmalade. Ginny

Ginny, two of my neighbors used to give me rhubarb and one insisted that I should come over anytime and help myself but I don't like taking advantage so I finally planted my own. I planted only two plants because the neighbor said it spread fast and a lot. Well mine didn't and I don't get a whole lot. This year I might just have to take the neighbors up on their offers because I do like rhubarb a lot.
Well I worked on the shawl but now it's getting very wide and I ended up having to take out two rows so all i got done is getting those two rows back.
Yes, I'm sure your work takes up a lot of your time and with that and other obligations and things that need to be done it really doesn't leave much time for crafting does it.
Happy New year again to all of you and thanks again for the thread and the invite to it.

Good morning everyone, it is still morning here in Ca.
I love rhubarb though I haven't eaten any for years. I will have to find the recipe for rhubarb marmalade. In N. Ireland we used to make rhubarb pies and jam. I don't know whether it would grow well here in Ca.
Ginny, I don't think I started this thread. It might have been cj I don't remember but I do think we have a very nice group here and I enjoy posting with you all. You mentioned having a problem with your edges when you crochet well you are not alone because I have trouble with mine a lot of the time. Though I do have afghans where the edges are perfect. I will have to go back and look at the previous page and see what posts I missed.
Ruth, I am glad you accepted the invite and that you joined us. I did not get any knitting done yesterday. I did a lot of reading....not an audio book. I will probably get back to my audio book today and work some more on my b/blanket.
It looks like we had rain last night and it is a cloudy cold day so I will be staying home. I have no reason to go anywhere.
Have a wonderful day.

Meg good to see you. I know your state can use rain. It snowed here again last night and people are happy because it makes for a good snowpack which will make for the moisture we need.

Hello Crafters - hope you are all doing well today It's raining here today and supposed to tomorrow too. So I'm glad we had nice weather for the weekend. I enjoyed watching the Rose Parade today, that's something I like to do each year. I also starched and pressed a few pieces of fabric that I had pulled out when I was doing my folding and organizing and want to work on a few small quilt tops with those. I did get some embroidery done yesterday, so I'm going to try to keep committed to doing handwork on Sundays. I saw where some other quilters have a "Finish It Friday" where they work on their unfinished projects. I might try to do that too. I do better when I have a set schedule to do things, otherwise I tend to goof off I did find a nice rectangular shawl pattern too, and it had a video with it, so that helps. I might try to work on that. Take care everyone!

Hi cj, I missed you when I was on here earlier. Did you start this thread? I don't think I did.
I like how well organized you are. I periodically work on my UFOs. I have several at the moment that I need to work on. I wish you a Happy New year and hope you get lots of projects finished.

CJ, that's a fantastic idea. I may have to adopt that one too. As I mentioned I have quite a few baby blankets that need edging. If I use Fridays to work on my UFO's I should have them done in no time. I'm going to put that on my schedule and on my goal list.... I have goals and lists for everything...hahahaha
Oh and CJ, I'm glad you found a pattern that will work for you
Ginny, sorry you have to start over. I had a dear friend send me a pattern for a beautiful baby blanket and I did make one but when I tried a second one the edges didn't turn out right. They turned out fine in the first one. So I think that I forgot which beginning stitch I used in the first blanket. I've had a lot more experience since then so I might try it again just to see how it works.
So this Friday I'll use my UFO Friday to weave in ends on all the hats I made so that I can take them to the senior center for the Caps for Kids leader to pick up.

Good Morning!
CJ- so glad you found a pattern you like for the shawl- complete with a video!! What color yarn will you use? I too love the idea of finish it Friday's- but will have to just keep on plugging on my present project. Heck I even have a needlepoint of my mom's that I hope to finish...cannot bring myself to throw it out either.
Ruth- rhubarb is hardy stuff- give it another year. It also freezes very well. I love your idea to finish those hats for the Caps for Kids....a very productive use of finish it Friday.
Meg, did you finish that really good book? And by now, you must have finished a baby afghan too!
Gotta scoot....grandkids are due here any minute. Got a little bit done of the ripple....I cannot mess this pattern up!
Have a great day! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's another rainy, chilly day here. I think tomorrow it's supposed to clear up and then the cold weather is coming in on Thursday. I worked on two small quilt tops today using some of the fabric I found when I was organizing my stash. I'm really going to try hard to use the fabrics that I already have and not buy too much this year. Ginny - I looked through my yarn stash and found a skein of Lion Brand Heartland in a purple color (called Hot Springs). It's a really soft yarn and I think it would feel nice as a wrap. I only have one skein that's 251 yards, so hopefully that will be long enough. I see that JoAnn Fabric still carries this yarn, so at least I can get another skein if the wrap is too short. Here's a link to the page with the pattern and video: www.fiberfluxblog.com/2012/11/free-crochet-patternmulberry-shawl.htmlGood for you working on your UFOs. Hope you enjoy the time with your grandkids and that you get some more work on your ripple done too Ruth - I like the idea of Finish it Friday too. I did get several of mine done last year, and would really like to get the few that I didn't finished, done this year. I find that I do better when I have a set time to do something. Otherwise I tend to put things off. Meg - Hope you can get some of your unfinished projects done too. We'll all have to support each other. Take care everyone!

Hello everyone. It is a very wet Tuesday here and I was going to go and get my hair cut but decided to stay home and pay bills. I have not done any knitting for 2 days but probably this evening I will put my headphones on and listen to my audio book and get busy. Working on UFOs is a good idea and I do, do that sometimes. I don't have too many though I have a blanket that I have been working on for ages. It has got to the point where it is too heavy to work on.
Ruth, I used to hate finishing projects. But I don't mind any more and usually do it when I finish what I have been working on. I thought I was the only one who had trouble with edges when I crochet. Even though it does not snow here but we depend on the snow pack up in the Sierras. When the snow melts up there it flows down into our rivers and lakes here in the Sacramento Valley.
Ginny, I usually have 2 books on the go. I finished one last night but I still have to finish the audio book. It's Gray Mountain by John Grisham. Its about The coal mine owners and the environmentalists in W. Virginia. It is an interesting book so I will get it finished soon. No I haven't finished another b/blanket yet. I am almost 1/2 way on this one. I just gave myself some time off. Have you started your b/blanket? I hope you don't have a problem with it.
cj, it is a wet day here and not quite as cold as it was. I wish I could be as organized as you are. I just keep working on reducing my yarn stash. I feel sleepy this afternoon so I don't think I am going to get much done until after dinner. I have my nights and days mixed up and I am awake at night when I should be sleeping then I want to sleep when it is time to get up.
Anyway I wish you all a good evening

Ginny, actually my rhubarb was planted maybe five years ago. The one plant is really pitiful looking but it comes back every year. The other might be expanding but not much. I do freeze the rhubarb that I get from the neighbors. I always saw rhubarb dividing itself and practically running wild with no care but I don't seem to have that much luck with it. I have a friend that keeps telling me how to take care of it but it still doesn't do much
Oh, yes, CJ, I'm REALLY good at putting things off.
Meg, enjoy those book and your quiet time in the evening knitting, Most of why I hate doing edging is because it never used to come out right for me but now that I've been doing it awhile it's working I should just finish each thing as I do it instead of letting a bunch pile up and have to do them all at one time. Like the hats. I probably have about 25 to weave in yarn ends on because I have some from before too added to teh ones I did Christmas week
Phyl, where are you. I hope all is well.

Good evening! How nice to see everyone check in today!
Phyl- stay warm!!!! Are you suppposed to get snow along with the cold weather? And do not worry- my Christmas decorations are still up- and will probably not come down until MLK day. That's the norm for me, and I love having the Christmas decorations up. See you are not alone....
Meg, John Grisham is a compelling author- his books are usually real page turners. Yes, I started the baby blanket again- but like this pattern and will finish with it.
Ruth, I did not think it was possible to kill rhubarb! Yes mine keeps growing bigger and bigger....I think my Dh said it likes manure on it....not sure.
CJ- the wrap looks lovely! I also checked out the pattern and it did not seem hard. Hope that your wrap works up well! The directions did say something about making it shorter - so perhaps you will not need a second skein.
Long day here....I got only a few minutes of crochet time in. Rainy here too, and going to be colder in a day or so.
Have a great night! Ginny

Ginny, that's what my other friend say too was manure so I did put some on this summer but I'm sure not all I was supposed to put on it and even though winter came late here I still didn't get out in time to do the one last application of the manure and cover the rhubarb or my rose bush. Somehow that always seems to get by me. I did cut off my tomato plants and should have done the rhubarb and rose bush at that same time. The rhubarb had a lot of stalks on it late in the year and I thought they would be good to eat to but they weren't. I tried them and they were terrible..had a very bad taste so I guess spring is the only time they're edible? Is that right?
I've put off again today. I don't know how long to make my dgd's shawl. She's 8 and I'd sure like to know what the length is from her neck to where the bottom of the shawl should be but even if I ask my ddil to measure, she'll put it off and I won't hear. One place it said for a size 10 sweater it should be 20 inches in length but that seems like it would be too long. I wish my dgs here wasn't so tall. he's 11 but his dad is 6'5 and Zane is already as tall as me.If he were regular 11 yr old size I could measure him and just make her's a tiny bit shorter than his measurement. So that's my excuse for putting off working on it but if it really should be 20 inches I have a few rows to go. I thought it was almost there but when I actually measured I found that I only have about 12 inches..sure looked longer than that to me.
Good night all. most of you except for Meg are probably already asleep
