Happy Monday fellow crafters!
Kind of scarey for me starting us off this am, we are starting the last week of July.... not too happy that only one month remains of summer.
Meg, hope you enjoyed the quiet day yesterday. Are you going to have to transport Devin to VBS?
Ruth, while it had a sad ending- guess it was a blessing that you were able to visit with others while attending your Aunt Esther's side. Having loved ones with her for her final days must have been a great comfort to her. Indeed bread and butter pickles are great! Usually I make them with Dd and sometimes her friend joins us too....her friend knew how to make the pickles but not how to use a hot water bath to make them shelf stable. Not sure if she will be joining us making the pickles this year or not.
Think I am heading out to do some light shopping with a friend later on.
Have a great day- and Hi to CJ and Phyl Ginny

Ginny, yes that year, although I had lived out here for 11 yrs I suddenly felt as though I needed to go visit her. I didn't know how I could though because airfare was so expensive so I know it was God that lead me to the idea of bus travel. (after He led me to visit her) 36 hours on a bus is definitely something that I would never do again. But I was so glad I was able to be with her. Cousin called me before I left here and said her mom was in ICU and did I still want to come. Well I wanted to come even more then because I wasn't sure I'd ever have the chance again and that ended up being correct
what fun to go shopping with a friend. Have a good time. I used to shop with one friend...the one I bought quilting supplies with, and we would have lunch and sit for hours talking and having coffee. Other friends I never shopped with only lunched. Now my shopping friend works in radiation oncology so works day shifts M-F so not much time to shop and lunch. When we did that we both worked nights so when we had a day off together we would do those things.
I finally finished the cp ruffled panties and they're so cute. I'm going to make a few more and some without ruffles in case one of the dolls is a boy. I started the final blanket and should have that done today. Then I'm going to experiment with making the undies into long pants and some nice tops and sweaters and dresses.ONe little guy still has a hat so I'll make little hats for the others.
So many ideas...so little time. Actually I have lots of time I just waste too much of it.
Oh and don't groan but I ordered more yarn. And I hate to order from Amazon but when it benefits me and people I make things for I do it so they had Caron one pound in some colors for a very low price so you know I had to get it. I also got dh a refrigerator/freezer thermometer which is wireless, has two sensor and the main display part for only $3.76 and free expedited shipping. Dh looked for it on Am this morning because he wanted to buy another but they were gone and cheapest now is over $16.Luckily I got it yesterday.

Ginny, I just found a pattern you might possibly be interested in. One of my dgds, when I asked their mother to see if they wanted me to make something for them, said a sweater. As you know most crochet sweaters are not pretty...at least I don't think so. But just now I saw one that looks pretty cute so I'm going to make it for her. Here's the link.they have all sizes for kids. I think it would be perfect for your dgd but we all don't have the same taste for maybe you won't find it as cute as I did but I really like it so another thing added to my list. Looks like it would be fast too. Now I just want to find a nice soft yarn to make it with www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/LW5795-Tea-Party-Cardigan-Free-Crochet-Patterns.pdf

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ginny - How nice to have that tradition to make pickles, I hope you are able to do that and enjoy the process. I know the Summer is a nice time for you, but I have to admit I'm wishing it will be over soon - unless the temperatures go back into the 70s and low 80s
Ruth - Glad to hear you finished some of your projects and are getting supplies for another.
Meg - I hope you are feeling better and hopefully don't have a UTI. I'm glad you didn't lose your favorites.
Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in.
I'm taking it easy, and looking forward to the rest of this week when the temperatures will be cooler. I had a crown fall out (3rd time this year!), so I'm going tomorrow to get it put back in. I wish I could just leave it out or that they could replace it or something, but I don't want to deal with any surgery or anything extensive - so I guess I'll just let them put it back in.
Take care everyone!

CJ, yes I remember the last two times that crown fell off. I know that has to be frustrating. and yes, time sure goes by fast.Summer is nearly over and while I don't like the extreme heat I like the cold worse but only because of having to worry about pipes freezing.
Ok back to my crocheting

Hi everyone.
I had an early a start this morning. I had to get up at 6 30a.m. to get Devin off to VBS which starts at a.m. I wish they didn't have it so early because I hate getting up in the morning. After I dropped him off I went to the lab to get 2 tests done. While I was there I went into the optical dept. and had them repair my reading glasses. I need new glasses but I will have to wait until after my cataract surgery. After I got home I was tired but I had to get Devin at 12 noon, I did relax and have an afternoon nap. No crafting for me today so far. Perhaps this evening.
Ginny, I loved having the house to myself yesterday. Yes I think I will be taking Devin back and forth this week unless DS has some time off. Devin won 2 stiffed animals at the fair yesterday. Devin likes pickles so I should send him to your house. Hope you had fun shopping with your friend.
Ruth, I am glad you were able to be with your hours during her final hours. You did the right thing and have nothing to regret. Your doll clothes sound very cute. Your DGDs will love them and they will always remember the grandma who took the time to make clothes for their dolls.
cj, We will probably have hot weather through Sept and by Oct it should be cooler. But it would be nice if your weather cooled off earlier than here. I should have the results of my lab work probably tomorrow. They may already have sent me an e-mail. I just have to check and see.
Have a good evening.

Just a short hello as yesterday ended up being much busier than I thought it would be.
Ruth - the cardigan is adorable- thanks for sharing the link!! No, I am not at all surprised that you bought more yarn. I am sure you will put out to good use.
CJ- has that tooth been xrayed? I have had crowns that fell out like that- once it was for a very good reason and that tooth needed additional work. think we are all like minded in that hot weather is no fun....and I hope that you get cooler weather soon.
Meg,a peaceful house is.a lovely thing- glad you got to enjoy it!!! Wish I could send you some pickles. But that would be silly.....sending a $1 jar of pickles for $10 in postage. Its a very easy recipe....I would be happy to share it should anyone want to make them.
Had a hoot shopping with my friend....we went to Hobby lobby and Walmart. AT HL, I got a few small craft things for the grarndkids and investigated fabric to back the quilt for Dd. Know what I want for that now, and am glad that I can get it at HL. then Dd and the grands came over after dinner...which made for a very silly evening.
Have a wonderful day Ginny

Good morning all.
Ginny it sounds like it was a really fun day too as well as being busier than you expected. Shopping with a friend then having your grandbabies come over in the same day. Yes sounds like a lot of fun to me. I'm glad you found what you needed at HL. I like to shop there. They have really nice fabric there and I love the yarn clearances when they have them. I like to support them since they're a Christian owned company.I don't shop much and HL is not near but if dh doesn't go with me to my doctor appt I'll go to HL after the appt since it is near the doctor office.Dh's bday is coming up and one year I got a nice present for him there too.
You ladies would love it here today. It's cool! Acc to weather channel it's only 75 degrees right now and high will be only 79. Sying that sounds so funny because in the spring it's great to have a "hot" 75 degree day.So anyway I have a few plans for today since it's cooler.Laundry will be one of the things. I've actually had one whole day with no pain at all the yesterday just one little episode of mild pain. So today I won't overdo and stir things up but want to get some things done. It's to be cool all week though so I have time.
Meg, I'm sorry to hear that you have to get up so early for this and next week. Does Devin's mom leave for work that early?
CJ, you have a good day too whatever you decide to do for the day
Hello also to Phyl
I hope you all have a great day

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. I read out in the General Discussion area that today is National Threading the Needle day Meg - I hope the results of your tests are good. I'm glad you were able to get your glasses repaired too. I'm sure Devin will enjoy VBS and I bet he was excited winning those stuffed animals. Ginny - Sounds like a fun and successful shopping trip and an enjoyable time with the grandkids. The closest Hobby Lobby for me is probably about 40 miles are so away, sometime I might take a ride there just to check it out. Ruth - I'm glad to hear you had a day with no pain at all, I hope that continues. I love that 70 degree weather! Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting. I went to the dentist and he said that he wants to rebuild my crown and use a post when it puts it back in this time. Hopefully that will solve the problems, since I could feel that there was always a gap around where it fit against the rest of the tooth that was left there. They didn't charge me today (I was shocked LOL), so I'll just go back in August for the replacement. Fortunately I've had a root canal in that tooth so I don't have any pain. I'm trying an experimental dinner tonight. I bought a Shadybrook Farms Turkey Tenderloin at the store and I put it in the crock pot with some some celery and poured over it a mixture of Cream of Celery soup, Turkey gravy mix (dry), and some water. I'm going to see what happens Take care everyone!

CJ, that dinner does sound good. I hope it turns out as good as it sounds. Hobby Lobby is kind of expensive for some things but they have a lot of sales and I thought their fabric was a good price.
Meg, did you find out if you had a UTI or did the symptoms go away?
I have a question. Every since my neighbors' house caught on fire in the middle of the night I've been concerned about fires. Luckily they got out ok because the fire started in the attached garage which was on the other end of the house from the bedrooms and they had smoke detectors. Dh has been more concerned about it that I am. We have about six smoke detectors now. But what I was wondering is, do any of you have a bag with a couple essentials like some ID and extra car keys and maybe a change of clothing, ...since you'll be in nightclothes..., couple days worth of any prescribed meds.and maybe a credit card, to grab fast as you run out of your home? Dh and I recently did that with all the fires that start because of lightening, etc. We already had the mountain behind us on fire twice and were advised to evacuate...we didn't evacuate though but were ready to leave at a second's notice if the fire got closer. Had our vehicles packed, and keys with us at all times in case we had to leave really fast. The investigation found that the neighbors' house caught on fire because of an electrical thing in the garage. You just never know.

Good evening!
Ruth, indeed being prepared sounds like a very good idea.we have smoke detectors, co monitors, fire extinguishers....but are not packed for an emergency like you mentioned. But, it does sound like a VERY good idea, especially if you live in an area in which natural disasters are prevalent.
CJ, the dinner sounds awfully good- and I hope it came out well! Let us know....From what you had mentioned about the crown, and my own personal experience, I thought that maybe a new crown was in order.. I sure hope that fixes the problem!!
Meg, were your test results in your email?you know we are all hoping for good results for you/
Phyl, hey busy lady, how are you?
Ended up going to Dd's to assist with washing windows, and the kids. Another busy day, indeed.Hoping for more sanity tomorrow. And. I do love hobby lobby....their sales are pretty darned good! I also love that they play instrumental hymns softly while you shop. Well worth a trip to check it out if you can.
56 degrees here tonight! Yay!!! Night Ginny

That's my favorite part of going to Hobby Lobby is the music. the words in hymns are very meaningful and inspiring but sometimes just listening to the musical part alone if just as enjoyable as listening to the words and music together. The words then are in our mind.
I've been working on the last doll blanket but I just pulled out five rows...long story. Basically it was to be a rectangle granny but the chain you start with is too long so I was going to change it by putting on rows after it got to a certain stage instead of continuing to keep going around the rectangle. but I did the rows wrong and pulled them out and will just keep going around. It may be big but I'm sure the girls won't mind.
After I watered my ourdoor plants it started to rain. When it does rain here it usually rains only for a VERY short time but this evening it made me think of evenings back in western NY. It rained softly for a couple hours.
Ginny, I hope you get to have a more peaceful day tomorrow and get in some quiet time.

Good morning! Ruth, indeed the girls will not mind if your latest heirloom is a little larger than you originally intended. Sometimes kids end up doing goofy things with their doll blankets- perhaps wrapping a favorite doll and 5 of her buddies.....so a bit larger size will be perfect. Don't ya love it when it rains after we have watered! Well, your plants must be very happy now...and hopefully will not dry out quickly.
We had a very very light rain last night, which did not prevent me from building a fire in the fire pit and relaxing. It did get into the 50's last night, which is delightful. I spent the evening under the gazebo feeding the fire and catching up on two emails.
Dh is heading over to Dd's- which gives me a few hours to myself. THink I will go for a walk in a little bit, and then come home and work on Dd's quilt.
I am finding that this summer has been so hectic that I am doing a lot of stress/mindless eating. Unfortunately it is showing up on the scale. Hope I can reverse this process and get off the slippery slope I am on.
Meg, been praying for you and hope that the lab results were good.
CJ and Phyl, hope all is well with both of you Ginny

Hello Crafter - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - That evacuation bag does sound like a good idea. I used to think I should bring my purse up to my bedroom at night so I'd have it if something happened, but I never seem to follow through after doing that a few days in a row. Maybe this reminder was what I needed. Ginny - Sorry that your Summer vacation is going so fast, but I'm glad you are doing some fun and relaxing things. That 50 degree weather sounds wonderful. The turkey was O.K., I don't think I'd make it like that again. I think the fact that there was already seasoning on the turkey tenderloins and then adding in the soup and gravy made an unusual combination. I just needed to use that soup and celery that I had. I went to a quilt shop today, they were having a sale, and bought some wide quilt backing fabric and I found a blue and white gingham fabric that I think will look better on the quilt I talked about a few days ago. I think the red and white gingham would have been overpowering. I also splurged and ordered a sewing machine that just does a straight stick and has great reviews for doing machine quilting at home. I've been researching this model for quite awhile and I think it will be a good investment. This way I can do all but my really large quilts at home. Here's a link to info about it in case you want to see: www.joann.com/brother-pq1500sl-high-speed-straight-stitch-sewing-machine/15262199.htmlwww.amazon.com/Brother-PQ1500SL-Quilting-Sewing-Machine/dp/B0149GG9V4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501114006&sr=8-1&keywords=brother+pq1500slPhyl and Meg - Hope you are doing well. Take care everyone!

Good evening! Thought I would check in and see who was able to visit with us this afternoon. I pray that all is well with Ruth, Meg and Phyl...
CJ, one thing I remember about our vacations south (Outer Banks of NC) is the hurricane evacuation signs. I gotta say when I first saw them on the Chesapeake Bay bridge, I freaked.....hurricane evacuation is a real thing, especially in your area. I know you are reasonably north and probably a bit west to be considered in a prime hurricane target area- but still its a concern. Heck, my region was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. My mom was alive then, and she was without power for 6 days- and refused to come up with us. But that is a story for another day. Anyway, Ruth has given us all a good idea, to be packed and ready for emergencies.
BY the way, last week I bought an applewood bacon coated pork roast- did it on the grill- and everyone loved it! I bought a second one with a mid August date- figure I will serve that next week. There is not too much bacon on top- but it imparts a great flavor.
Now, I just took that quilting class and was surrounded by pfaffs and berninas. Despite "a look" from the instructor because I did not have a sewing machine with a big name, my Singer performed well- and costs a boatload less than those pfaffs and berninas. I have a friend who swore by her Brother- she was into embroidery- and made some amazing things with it. They seem to make good machines for the money. Best of luck with it.....did you order it from Amazon? Let me know what you think of it. I took a quick look on amazon to see the reviews- and if I got the gist of it, its a good machine once you get the hang of it. Enjoy it!
I did get about 4 hours to myself today. Went for a nice walk....then came home and actually caught up on the latest episode of Turn, and worked on a 9 patch square. With the "interesting" assortment of fabric I have, I do not know how large I can make this quilt. Will have to just keep at it....see how it all turns out.
Have a good night all Ginny
Today was productive for you, finding some good fabric on your trip to the LQS.
