This is a conservative thread to allow those with conservative views to express themselves. We welcome Republicans, Tea Party folks, and those who believe in the Constitution as written, not as interpreted by liberal judges. If you have liberal views we invite you to participate in a civil and respectful conversation. We would respectfully request that if you cannot post in a respectful and civil manner to refrain from doing so until you can. Good discussions are great - insulting arguments are not. We welcome discussions about our weight loss journey.

Welcome 2017! Hard to believe. I found this interesting story...typical liberals, do as I say, not as I do. Seems the residents of Rutland, Vermont, are very upset at their mayor for deciding for all of them that their town will resettle over 100 Syrian refugees. They have formed a group called Rutland First...and are claiming that the residents cannot afford to foot the bill for all the expenses, and it seems the "federal aid" they are supposed to receive is not much. The mayor claims they "need people" and that the refugees will bring "diversity" to the town. Hmm, how's that working out for all those countries in Europe....it is like a freeforall for attacking women. What made me laugh out loud is that this town voted overwhemlingly for Hillary Clinton.....which to me says they were all for open borders; but not, I guess, in their town.

Hi Li, many thanks for getting us started this week and into a New Year. I think that the Liberal states and cities were expecting to get a lot of federal money to help pay for all the progressive visions they have. I just read a article about California, my state, They were expecting to get money to pay for medical care all adult illegal immigrants in the state. California is a very liberal state and one of the highest taxed states. The problem is that we are not all highly paid celebrities who own their own jets and can fly where ever they want when they want. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming year.

LOL...so funny, CNN is now focusing on North Korea and what Trump will do about it. Funny how they kind of ignored THAT situation for years while Obama was in office. It is really kind of sad to watch the way the media is behaving. They were simpering sad sacks for 8 years....ugh, I really hope Trump does away with the daily press briefings...kind of not needed any more, what with twitter and facebook and all that. Those "journalists" really are not needed any more. Nobody really cares about their "interpretation" of what the press secrectary said any more. And their asking and reasking of the same question over and over and over again. What a HUGE waste of time and energy. Would not be surprised if the Trump Administration does away with the daily press briefings...and does a weekly thing. It really is not necessary any more, right?

Meg...in our travels, DH and I have come across many California people that are very upset about how their feelings and votes don't mean a thing. That is very unfortunate. I blame that on lax rules and regulations when it comes to voting. Seems like nobody needs to present ID when voting...and FORGET ABOUT IT when it comes to mail-in ballots. HOW IN THE WORLD do you know who is actually checking off the boxes and sending in the vote? This whole thing is freaking scary. What ever happened to being proud to vote, standing in line and doing so? It kind of took an act of GOD to get an absentee ballot to vote; now it is just pure laziness sometimes...not always. Elderly and shut-ins....but really, in the past, someone got them to the polls, right? Think about it folks.

I for one appreciate the convenience of mail in ballots. I am on the permanent early ballot list. I have plenty of time to study the issues and the candidates and mark my ballot and send it in. The ballot contains my name, address, and voter id number and my signature is on file to match up with the ballot which I have to sign. And they know I am a valid voter because I signed up when I renewed my drivers license. I do see your point about voting in person, rain or shine, or even snow.
I was going to make spaghetti and meat sauce today but got a new recipe and made tater tot casserole instead. Cook a pan of tater tots. Brown a package of hamburger. Drain the hamburger and add a large can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of mushrooms. Pour over the tater tots and bake at 350 20 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese and bake another 10 minutes. Delishious!!
Well, the ultimate clutz managed to fix a cabinet door that popped its screws. I had to take the door off, put super glue in the holes, and reattach the hinges. Then the hard part was reattaching the door to the frame. I had to hold the door with my shoulder while putting the screws back in. Hope it lasts.

So happy to hear Megyn Kelly is leaving Fox News. Was also glad to see Greta van Susteren go. Now for Shepard Smith.

Gary, I know Meg also likes the mail-in ballots, but I feel the system is just too easy to "cheat". I'm all for voter i.d. too. Back in the day you had to show your "election board" card too.
I just saw that about Megyn Kelly. She hasn't been hosting her own program on Fox for a few weeks....I guess she's been on her book tour and vacation. have to say I did not miss her at all. Don't miss Greta either. she's going to MSNBC. Tucker Carlson's show has her time slot and his show is really great. And Gretchen Carlson will be co-hosting NBC's Today Show. I liked her on Fox and Friends, but not when she took over Megyn Kelly's afternoon time slot when Megyn wanted an evening program. she just didn't "have it".
Yeah, time for Shepard to move on. I never did like him, especially when he covered Katrina.
Wondering what Trump knows about the "hacking" thing that he's going to talk about "soon". Remember when the wikileaks guy offered a reward to finding whomever killed the young man in DC that worked for the Clinton Campaign or the DNC (can't remember which). Hmmm. Lin

Hi Gary & Lin, I just read about Megan Kelly going to NBC. I must say I wont miss her one bit. Apart from her liberal views I though she was loud and shrill in her interviews. She was too full of herself and I always felt like turning her off. She will have a lot of competition at NBC. I have always liked Tucker Carlson and I am glad he has his own show now. I don't have the TV on very often when Sheppard Smith is on so can't say much about him.
I do vote by absentee ballot but I did go and vote until recently. I live in a part of Ca. where I do not have anyone to represent me. The Democrats have all the power and they can change the boundary lines to get the votes they want. We had a Republican congressman representing my district but they changed the boundary lines and now we have a Democrat. We also have 2 Democrats in the Senate. I would move to another state but I cannot move my DD who is developmentally disabled so here I stay. Have a good evening.

Hello everyone and a Happy New Years to you. I just don't get here to post real often and right now we are getting ready to put the house on the market and move. don't know where we will move to yet though. My younger daughter who lost her job 2 years ago and has not been able to find one is also moving with us. She is selling her house. She is single and lives alone and she helps me a lot with cleaning and things so we just decided to get a house that will be suitable for the 3 of us, where she will have her own space and we will have ours.
Megan Kelly going to NBC? I would say it will be a good fit. A liberal network and a liberal talking head. I think she got real full of herself toward the end. I did like Gretchen. I know she was a bit more to the left, but she was always fair and she actually gave a lot of credence to Trump and his views before she left. She visited Sarah Palin a number of times and really reported fairly on her too. So I was sorry when she went away. But I love, love, love Tucker. He is hilarious when he interviews the dummies on the far left. He literally makes me laugh when he makes all of them look like a bunch of idiots.
Cannot wait for Trump to take office. Watched the GOP house and Senate give their speeches today and heard them say they are not touching medicare, social security or even the extended Medicaid programs. Heard them say they are going to be very careful in replacing the ACA. Then the Democrats come on and lie, lie, lie and try to scare everyone to death about how they are going to lose their health care and everything else. People have finally gotten smart and know that it is all lies. Or at least most people have. There are still a few idiots out there I guess.

Well I have to say the people on the other thread sound as loony as ever. I seldom read but when I do I am always amazed and amused.

Yep, if you want to be entertained and appalled at the same time, just read the liberal thread. I guess the new liberal spin on keeping Obamacare is that the Republicans want to "make America sick again". We are already sick of the liberal agenda and a majority of Americans are with us.
I've been thinking about backup. When my A/C went out last summer I didn't have backup and my cats and I almost died from the heat. After a couple days it occurred to me to buy a window A/C so now I have backup. When I bought my newer car I was anxious to sell my still perfectly serviceable Park Avenue so I could help my daughter get a minivan for her family of 4 children. I am selling it well below blue book so I didn't understand why it wasn't selling. Then it occurred to me that my Park Avenue makes a nice backup car in case one of them is in the shop for repairs. So I swap out both cars about once a week to keep both running good. I like backup - that is why the LDS church recommends a backup supply of food and commodities. I have a backup bathroom heater in case the one I am using quits on me. Computers are always backed up in case the computer crashes. I love backup!

Oh my word. I was just listening to O'Riely. He is not my fav but he does make a lot of good points and he does keep us informed of the REALLY DUMB things some of the libs are doing. I am appalled to learn that teenage prostitution is now legal in California. What the heck? I agree the young kids are victims but if you cannot pick them up, then the pimps are free to do whatever they want to do. If you can not pick up these young kids and put them in a safe place you are leaving them at the mercy of some very bad people. HOW DUMB IS JERRY BROWN? About as dumb as an ant who has not got a very big brain. This is absolutely terrible because this takes away hope for these kids to get out of their slavery to their pimps. I can believe dumb ass liberals like Brown.

Hooray! A place where I can be a conservative without negative response. Actually I am going to miss Megyn Kelly a bit. My hope is that she will be a bit of a conservative voice in a liberal network. She really is very bright although I don't always agree with her. I don't disagree that there is global warming happening. I just think it has a lot to do with natural phenomenon and not all human causes although paving a city does result in heat trapping and raises the temperature of that area. However, I live in a very northern area and find that the last frost date in the fall has moved from September 10 to now into October for the last few years and to September 20 for many years before that. I don't want a unisex bathroom! I have a shy bladder the way it is! While my mother, myself and two younger sisters needed food stamps for a few months after my father died, I didn't want it to be a way of life and worked two jobs, my sister found a job as a carhop and my mother was sick and needed surgery within a month of my father's death. We made it with work and studying in spite of no insurance to help. I am a fiscal conservative but I do my best not to pollute the environment. I will have a hard time enjoying movies and music from actors and musicians who criticize without giving the president elect a chance. I didn't vote for President Obama but when he was elected I hoped he would be the best president in history (he wasn't!) Donald Trump wasn't my first choice of candidates and probably was the last on my list but I did vote for him and so far I am very impressed at how he is doing. I live in an area that is heavily Democrat and my vote for president has never counted because of the Electoral College but for once I am happy that is how elections are counted!
