Hi! Been busy preparing for dinner tomorrow night. One of SO's oldest friends is in town for business and will fly in tomorrow. He wanted to take us out to dinner, but SO wanted me to cook, so I've been preparing - planning, ordering online, prepping today. Tomorrow will buy dessert at a pastry store.

Wondering how dinner went, Sue.
JoAnne, how is your DH doing? Does he pretty much stick to eating what is right now or is he still grabbing things out---was remembering how frustrated you were with trying to manage his diet for his heart health. Have not heard you mention much lately about that.
House cleaning ladies are here so I am camping out in the office with Tanzi--we moved all her stuff in here because this room really does not need cleaning.
TJ's has some new red plums in that are so delicious--cannot remember the name of them--not pluots--sort of velvety red--they almost taste as tho they have a bit of nectarine in them--wonder if they crossed a peach or something.

Hi! Dinner turned out well last night. I made lobster thermidor again but served it differently and with different garnishes. I had spinach gnudis that were in the freezer and then filet mignon with demiglace and sauteed shallots/mushrooms, roasted broccolini and popovers. Dessert was 5 different mini tarts from the pastry store down the street. It was so good to see him. He is crazy busy traveling everywhere. He co-owns a 50 person arch firm.
Joan, I hope one of these days the cats will finally get along. Sad that they use to and all of a sudden this happnes.
Jojo, you are doing so well with your weight!
Holly, did you go to Ashville with your parents? Glad you had a good time.
Stayed up late last night to do most of the dishes. Relaxing day, dlept in, some cleaning, laundry, gym. Friend spent the night at our house, left early for his meeting.

Ugh, I am so sorry I totally spaced pinning this thread to the top for the month of August! Please, anyone, feel free to shoot me a message or tag my name so I get a notification and I will know what it is for if it happens again.. (To tag someone just use the @ symbol followed by the persons name with no space) I have a reminder set for the first but there was no August thread to pin yet when I checked and I totally spaced checking again. Sorry folks, hope everyone is doing well 😊

Hi!
Thanks, Deb for moving our August thread!
Everyone must be busy. Uneventful here, rainy, dreary day. It's been unseasonably cool here this Aug so far - not complaining!
Doing some filing and bills today, online grocery shopping, gym soon. Spent quite a bit of time on the phone straightening out my mail order prescriptions, ugh.
Joan, you are doing amazingly well with your weight and keeping it off! I know how much you have struggled and I'm so happy for you that you are getting all this positive reinforcement!
My new BP med seems to be working out well, lower than before, will take another reading tomorrow.

Hi all,
I had a virtual conference today for work. It was nice to be able to do it from home.
I have slacked off on exercise. Need to get back on track.
Sue, that's good that you found a BP medicine that works well. I have been on a new one for the last couple of weeks. Not really making any difference.

Just back from b'day party--saw some old friends DH used to work with at his private school job after retirement from public school. Managed pretty well with the eating--had a tiny bit of frosting from a very small sliver of cake--didn't taste all that great so dumped the rest. I took a salad and they had three salads also with chicken veggie skewers and grilled tritip-=-did not eat any beef but had about 5 oz of chicken and lots of onion and peppers.
I did not do kickboxing as it was not my favorite teacher so I did the body rolling class and then an hour and 15 min of zumba.
Feeling sick about this country today.
Sue on Friday we had downpour here==lots of nice lightning and thunder---really close by and extremely loud.Loved it.
Played cards last night and the women won three games--does not happen that well often.
Might walk in the morning.
Holly, surprised you had to work on Saturday.
Am tired--turning off the lights.

Hope everyone is doing okay. Went and saw Something Rotten--first play of the new season----oh, it was such a good one to start with---so fun and funny. After one number in the first act (about ten minutes in) the audience spontaneously gave a standing ovation and it caught the actors so off guard---they held their pose but pretty soon they started to giggle and laugh because the audience would not stop cheering---have never seen that happen before--that I think so energized the whole group---it was awesome. The lead guy was the one who won a Toni for it. We had dinner with cruise BF's and another couple (a yoga friend) who bought season tickets for the first time---that was so much more fun. Then I ran into my former teacher friend with whom I had lunch a few weeks ago---they are new to buying tickets also---so next time we might have 8 for dinner!
Body sculpt class only today as I go to the airport and retrieve my housekeepers' kids--they get in from MX about 11:30---am a little nervous about it---going to pick up at customs. Hoping all goes well. Hate this fear they live under now.
Have a massage at 1:30 -- no clue what I am doing for dinner yet. Still tracking tho and maintained my lowest number throughout all the weekend activities so am feeling pretty successful.
Seems Valerie and her family are having fun exploring their new home area in Maine---the neighbors there have been very welcoming to them. Valerie still travels for the job.
Hoping JoAnne is okay---it has been a long time.
Holly, are all the kids back in school now?

Hi!
Not much going on here, usual chores and gym. Last night I made marinaded grilled shrimp with grits - so good. I used chicken broth for the grits and also lemon zest. I love putting lemon zest in almost everything.
Joan, sounds like you had a great weekend with your social activities! The play must have been amazing Hope all went well with the airport pickup
I did email Valerie awhile back and she seems to be traveling as much as ever, although it seems she has more responsibilities now as well.
Tomorrow is housekeeper day, so gym in the morning. Going to go to a catering company tomorrow and drop off my resume, they have Tues walk-ins this month.
Have been glued to the news, ugh.

Sue, the daughter,,, Belinda, called me the minute the plane landed---she was so smart----she had her Grandpa put my name on the paperwork filled out by them in MX so there was no problem at all... It is so touching to witness the love that Mexican families so genuinely display to one another--found myself crying several times as kids were retrieved from customs---the kids just sobbed and sobbed when they saw their parents---the baby was so happy to see Belinda that I should have taken a photo---pure, unadulterated joy written all over his face. And Belinda (just twelve last week) could not wait---stole him from her mother and carried him all the way to the car.
It was about an hour wait for them to clear customs so I sat and talked with a dad who was picking up his eight year old and a mom who drove all the way from SLCity to get her daughter and husband--very sad because both of them have noticed such a change--people on the mom's block now yell racial slurs at her when she drives in home from work--she said the two neighbors on either side are still pleasant and speak but the other neighbors yell "immigrant" and give her the finger---she is in her late 30's and has only ever been a US citizen--she is Mexican and left CA about ten years ago because housing was impossibly expensive. I just apologized for others' hatefulness---unbelievable. How do people harbor this level of hate?
OMG DH actually went to 3 o'clock yoga---first time in 3 months---I am in shock but will just act casual or he will possibly not do it again. I had a massage---she really fixed my arm which still hurt a bit from my one boogie board run in the ocean.
Sue, very envious of your having shrimp and grits tonight---love lemon everywhere as well. Lemon on veggies is so good too. Funny, I was looking at my recipe for s and grits today as well. Going to fix something easy and fast with the beets I roasted while gone.

Hi!
Nice day here. Finally got my car washed, waited until after the days of rain we've had.
Yesterday, I went to catering company to drop off my resume and talk to a staff. They forwarded my resume to the culinary dept and the chef de cuisine emailed me today for a meeting next week. We'll see how that goes.
One of our ex-partners came by yesterday, spent some time looking at SO's new work (he had bought one of SO's paintings), then we went to a restaurant for happy hour, had some drinks and shared some appetizers. Then we came back our house and I heated up a lemon souffle that I had in the freezer from when we made them in dessert class in school. Also had some chocolate sauce in the freezer which I defrosted and poured over the souffle, it was so good!
I was shocked to see this friend when he first walked in. He has been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and he had lost all his hair. He used to have a full head of thick brownish hair. But he seems to be in good spirits so that is good.
Joan, it is heartbreaking that families are being torn apart. What is really scary about the hate groups is so many young people, this movement instead of dying out is gaining new young members all the time.

Yes,,, agree with you Sue!
Sounds as tho they were eager to talk to you after seeing your resume---will be interesting to see what sort of opportunity might be there for you.
Holly must be pretty busy at school.
No clue what is happening to JoAnne---I hope she did not have a health complication --or her DH. I don't remember her saying that she was going away.
I am making salmon patties to cook and freeze and take with us to SLCity and ID for the eclipse weekend--hoping I have enough for us to have two tonight as I did not cook last night and have nothing else in mind for tonight. I have been so not good about cooking the past week.
I also made a sausage tortilla breakfast layered thing today---will freeze that as well---I think--trying to take some things so that we only have to warm up things in the oven and not do the actual making of anything. Tomorrow I will make a big rodeo salad to go---it keeps very well and tastes better after a couple days.
I bought a new pair of yoga pants to celebrate my 10 # loss---they actually have some color on them but are not wild--black and gray with some pinkish streaks on part of the leg---I usually only wear black ones. They actually are so comfy--they are reversible--probably won't reverse tho cause the inside is a fine stripe--really don't need stripes going around my behind! Maybe if I lose another ten I could turn them around. LOL
Did yoga and weights today---the 14 # for biceps felt pretty good today so I must be getting stronger--usually can only do part of the reps with that and then have to ditch one to finish. (One 7 # one). I was pleased with DH, on his own he found our old teacher's class and went Monday and today---so good for him. Let us know what the place talks about as possible work with them in some way, Sue. Have a good evening.

Hi all, been so busy. Walking 3 miles every day and crocheting several baby gifts for a dear friend's new grand children. Spent yesterday from 2:00 p staying at DS's with the kiddos while DDIL had a teacher conference about DGD'S plan for the first quarter in middle school. Afterward went to DGS'S(4) ball practice. He was so excited that we were going. My sister will be here next mon. For a week and I have so much to do before then. Washed clothes and did paper clutter today . Tomorrow yard work.
Joan it is so neat that your husband went to yoga. My husband would not be caught in any exercise class with women. I am hoping that the cardiologist will get him in a cardiac rehab program after Christmas when he has had time to have his depression med adjusted and has had an echocardiogram. He has been really trying lately to do a little more around the house and to take computer brakes. Still will not walk any though.
The sprays that I have tried seem to be helping with the deer.
Holly, I may try out that new site for needle work that you found. Let me know how you like it.
Sue, interesting that you are considering a catering company. I had a dear friend (passed away at the early age of 55) who had a catering service for about 2 years and loved it. She had plenty of business just with family and friends. Hope the company that you are trying for works out!

Sad news, my grandmother passed away yesterday. Just the day before, Thurs, I spent the day looking after my dad (he can't be left by himself) while my sister drove and took my mom to see my grandmother at the nursing home. My mom can't drive other than around her own neighborhood. I'm so glad that my mom got one last chance to spend time with my grandmom.
I'm going over to my mom's soon. A little family gathering will happen next week. We have relatives overseas who will not be able to make it and we'll have a bigger memorial service at some point later.

Hi all,
My church is having a family weekend at a nearby camp in the mountains. It has been nice just relaxing. Got some knitting done and went for a canoe ride.
Sue, so sorry for your loss. That's good that your mom got that opportunity.
JoJo, glad you finally found a spray that works.
Joan, we are supposed to get 99% totality here. I'll probably go outside to watch the peak of it.
