Happy Monday fellow crafters!
Well, I put the date on the header of today's thread and I admit it does not make me happy. Summer surely is slipping away....but the upside of that is lovely fall weather, crisp fall air, and beautiful fall foliage. So, Ok, I will go positive and realize that my favorite time of the year is only a few weeks away.
Ruth, you posted late last night. Indeed those darned coffee containers are tempting to keep. Dh was collecting them for awhile, for saving nails, other construction stuff- and indeed he did finally stop asking for them. He also has a ton of clothes that he no longer wears. I have asked him several times to go through his clothes to get rid of what he no longer wears.....it would make his closet so much easier to negotiate if he did. Oh well. Gotta take him for a colonoscopy today (routine)- of course I hope all goes well.
In my area BBBS web site does indicate that they take fabric and yarn. (Took some hunting to find that info). I figure with rainy weather today, even when we get back I should be able to go through some fabric and perhaps eliminate some. THey are picking up from me on Wednesday. I also found a boatload of craft paint. I used to paint crafts- made some really cute peg hangers for each kid- and now have all this paint leftover. Wish BBBS would take that too- but their web site did not indicate that.
Will probably take my embroidery and a book to keep me out of trouble while Dh is in for his procedure. So I ought to get some craft time in today.
Meg, CJ, Phyl and Ruth and all who follow or stop in, have a great day! Ginny

Dh is just fine after his test.(thank you Lord!). Got a funny story.....the office where the procedure was performed at is about 2 miles away from the the perfect triangle- a strip mall in which AC Moore, Michaels and Joanns are. I had my embroidery with me, a book, plus my Bible study- and just as they took Dh in he told me to go shopping.....cause he knows I never get there. Well I laughed, asked him if he was serious....and he told me to go have fun. Well, my momma did not raise a fool- so after I finished my daily reading, I went on an excursion. Bought myself a new purse in AC Moore (they have cheap knock off Vera bags there which are very cute and very inexpensive)- got nothing in Michaels (not a big fan of them) but hit pay dirt in Joanns. THey had the cinnamon scented pine cones I was looking for and all baby yarns are on sale! Yay! I bought nothing but came back with ideas. I loved Bernat Baby Bundle yarn, and will check out their web site for baby blanket patterns. Super soft yarns.....pretty colors. I am sure I will be back there later on in the week to buy something for the new grandchild. Dd gave me the ok to make a blanket in neutral colors.

Hello Ginny and all that come in later. Ginny I'm glad your dh's procedure went well. I'll be praying that the biopsies they undoubtedly took are good. They would have mentioned though if anything looked suspicious so I imagine the results will be great. Where we have out scopes done they tell whoever comes with you not to leave the building until the patient is ready to leave. I'm glad you were able to get out shopping while the procedure was in progress
Yes these coffee containers do come in handy for a multitude of things. I like them to hold paint if I'm on a ladder and painting with a brush.Dh puts nails and all that in his too. Dh wants to save his clothes in case he loses weight. Well I'm sure he's never going to get back to the weight he was at 45 years ago so no use holding on to those.
I found that we do have a BBBs here in town so I emailed and they did say they take donations of small amounts of fabric. The person said they don't have much storage space so they can't take a lot which is sad because I have lots of fabric that the kids would probably love to work with.
Went out to get my antibiotic. It cost a whopping $3.56! Huge difference from the other although I did tell the clerk that I didn't want the other one because it was too expensive and she said it was $107. On the phone they told me $287. I don't know what changed but that isn't specifically for my problem anyway so I'll wait to get it for $16 from Canada. My doctor also told me on the phone that she ordered pyridium but Walmart's pharmacy said it wasn't in their records which I find very strange because when I looked online it was listed there. As I said, I dislike Walmart's pharmacy a lot. I don't have to go there often because my usual meds I order online and have them shipped to my home.
I did buy yarn while there because they had the Bernat baby in the clearance isle. I only bought one.I also got dh a small item for his birthday which is on the 13th. Store was pretty crowded. I'm going to have to go out some other time this week and buy what we need to hold us over till after the 21st...probably till the 28th till all the tourists for the eclipse clear out. Found out neighbor is having "about" 35 people coming to their home "to celebrate". I'm not happy with that.

afternoon, what the h--- am I thinking again? I have been in my playpen cutting out fabric to make sweet cakes.it is the pattern of a potholder shaped like cupcakes. I am not going to make it into a potholder. just decoration. I want is a little thicker so have been cutting out two pieces of batting for each cupcake. so for one cupcake it is two pieces of fabric for the bottom, two fabric for the top and two of batting. no wonder my back is killing me.I cut out enough for four cupcakes. you can find the pattern sweet cakes at susiecshore.com.
ginny take dh cotton shirts.cut them up and start making a quilt. maybe the kids would love a quilt out of dad's old shirts.
that is some mall close to the place dh was at.I think michael's was better before they merge with(can't remember the name )years ago.my friend was mad they stopped carrying ccs and went more into beadings. phyl

We don't have either an AC Moore or a Joanne's. We used to have the Joannes but they closed. The women that worked there were terrible at cutting fabric and were always cutting it crooked, never gave an inch more and often you ended up with not enough fabric because of the crooked cutting. Love the idea of the Vera knockoffs at AC Moore but I have a lot of purses that I'll probably never use already.
Phyl, I went to that site but the only cupcakes I saw was for an oven mitt. Sounds like a lot of work but I bet they'll be cute. Reminds me of the cupcake purse I made for dgd which I still have to crochet the chain for the drawstring and put the beads on that drawstring and it will be done. I'm making a little coin purse to go in it and I'll put in a dollar and some change since she's the one that says I always send her money. Of course the purse, coin purse and shawl I made her will not be the only gifts. I also bought her some things while out this morning. I know little kids like opening things so I get them a lot of little things. Parents can buy a big thing
Phyl, making a quilt out of family clothing does sound like a nice idea but I'm always donating in hopes that someone really needs and can use the clothing. So many things are donated though that many probably are discarded and I heard that these places also sell them to places i China to use for making new clothing or new fabric...cann't remember which...so making a quilt might be a better idea

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Congratulations on that wonderful shopping spree and finding some yarn and a purse. I hope you enjoy making the blankets for the babies, I'm sure that must be really heartwarming to make something for a new baby. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get some yarn too. And what a nice surprise on the price of your medication. Phyl - Those cupcakes look cute, hope you enjoy making them. Meg - Hope you are continuing to improve. I haven't been doing any crafting, I'm just not in the mood. I'm hoping I'll get some motivation back soon

Good evening!
Dh is recovering and they found nothing to biopsy, no tissue samples were taken.
Ruth do you want me to send you a check to help pay the extreme expense of that antibiotic? As your friend, I really want to help you in your time of need! Ha ha ha ha Sorry Walmart pharmacy was such a disheveled mess. You amaze me with all the lovingly made gifts you have for your family. I am sure the purse, the coin purse and shawl will be cherished. Congrats on finding the bernat baby yarn in clearance!!
Phyl, I forget who michaels merged with, but agree that they were a better store before. Now its too many beads and I normally find the store not well stocked and disorganized. Cutting fabric can really kill your back....hope that you can change positions and rest up. The cupcakes sound adorable.
Weighing in on the quilt from Dh's shirts, I think its a good idea. I have not finished all the quilts from my mom's blouses, but both Dd and Ds cherish theirs, and can see many memories of my mom through her fabrics. Because I did it rag quil style, it was easy to make.
Gotta work on finding a baby blanket pattern. Ginny

Oh and we don't have a Micheal's either
Good to see you CJ. ONce fall and winter are here you'll be busy doing crafting
Ginny, one woman posted a pattern she calls the cabbage patch stitch...why that name I don't know but it's really pretty. Basically it's skip a stitch, double crochet in the next three stitches then cross over the three stitches and dc in the skipped stitch. Like other x stitches it does leave a little hole and some people don't like baby blankets with holes but v stitches and a lot of others leave little openings too. You could try a swatch and see how you like it but, as I said, I think it's really pretty.
Ok Ginny, I'll be waiting for that check...hahahaha. Said on the receipt that without insurance it would have cost $36. A far cry from some. My dh uses spiriva and advair inhalers and without ins they cost 5 and 6 hundred dollars. His copay is low thankfully
That was the other thing about the Joanne's we had here...it was a mess.
Oh I'm glad they didn't even find tissue that needed biopsied. They always seem to be biopsying dh and I. He will go in the fall for his scopes upper and lower. I'm putting mine off. I'm a good procrastinator plus I don't think it's necessary for me to have another one yet.And I'll probably end up having a cystoscopy so that will be enough scopes for me.

Just a quick visit on my way to bed. it was cooler today but I was still sleepy this after noon. I had a visit from my nurse this morning. The PT hasn't appeared yet. Devin will go back to school on Thursday. I haven't done any crafting yet and when I read I fall asleep.
So now I am off to bed so that I can sleep some more.

Good morning!!
CJ- we posted at pretty much the same time....indeed you will be back in full swing crafting in the fall. No one feels the need to craft and nest when its too warm or when there are outside things to take care of.
Meg, glad you stopped in to say hello! By now you know we worry about you....Rest up! Sounds like you are doing just that. I wonder if its easier on you when Devin returns to school?
Ruth- ok, so I will not send the check out for that expensive antibiotic just yet. Agreed, some meds are insanely high in cost. I will play with some yarn and see if I like that pattern you mentioned. I wonder how large a chain you would make to begin it? I will see what I can find online. Joanns (as a corporation) has gone through a major overhaul to upgrade stores. The 2 nearby ones I go to (One is much closer so I am there much more frequently than the other) are pretty good now- better organized and better run. At times they are understaffed, but again, it seems to be improved over the way they used to be.
Worked on a pillowcase last night. Not too much though.
Have a great day Ginny

Hello everyone. It's another nice weather day here. 75 so far. It's still hazy from all the smoke of the fires here and in Montana but it doesn't smell like smoke so that's always a good thing. Ginny, it's good to hear that Joannes is improving things. Ginny, here's the link to the instructions for that cabbage patch stitch. She doesn't have a pattern there just instructions and pattern for the swatch she's talking about (it's a nice tutorial) but of course you can use the stitch for pretty much anything. I'm going to make my new grandbaby's blanket with it. It's a multiple of 4 plus 3. theunraveledmitten.com/2017/03/31/cabbage-patch-stitch/Of course they have many, many really pretty baby blanket patterns online. Meg, it's good to see that you stopped in.It's hard to believe that Devin is going back to school already. It seems like not very long ago that you mentioned school being done for the summer. This year the kids here don't go back until after Labor Day. Usually they go back before.

Good evening! Thanks for the link for the cabbage patch stitch., Ruth. I will give it a try either tonight or tomorrow, and I do think I can handle it. I am all for something easy and receptive that will be pretty. I might even use that for the blankets I make to donate at church.
WHen I was in AC Moore, they had a Knit for Kids box, accepting all knitted and crocheted items for children. Those of you who have an AC Moore near you might check it out to donate afghans, hats, mittens, scarves etc....to. So sorry, I cannot keep track of who lives near what store.
GUess I will head back downstairs to finish going through fabric. I am getting rid of a lot. Which is kind of happy but also sad..
Have a great day all Ginny

Yes I'm going to use it for donated blankets too and I need to just start a couple of them to have sitting here so that when I'm visiting with dh I can work on them because they're so easy that you don't need to concentrate. I used this stitch for one of the cabbage patch doll dresses and instead of the shell row I just used single crochet in the rows between the crossed stitches but I do think that the shell rows would be better for a blanket because that way the blanket would be done sooner.a lot of my blankets will be some pink and some green since I have a lot of pound of love in those colors. I have that color pink that I know think is not very pretty but it's because I have so much of it. They had a huge sale and both Meg and I bought some but I bought way more. I have a nice pink too and will combine the two colors.
I'm one of the ones that doesn't live near an AC Moore.Hobby Lobby is the only craft type place we have here and I haven't been there in awhile.
Made a couple food items for dh to eat in the upcoming days. Still have to finish the potato salad he wanted. Did some laundry too but wasn't able to hang the blankets outdoors like I wanted because it's very overcast and has looked like rain all day although it hasn't rained yet so blanket washing is saved for another day. Have to go and fold now in fact so see you all later.

Ruth, I would be surprised if Hobby Lobby did not have some charitable organization to donate hand made items to.
Still going through fabric here but almost done. I am probably getting rid of 40% of what I had here. Most of what I am getting rid of was given to me by others.
