I saw the post by the "lurker" and I don't remember what they said. I just choose to ignore. I don't mind people sharing their opposing views as long as they are respectful to other posters.
Mel, as far as I am concerned you can post all you want and we might find that there are topics we can agree on.
At the moment I don't have time to pay too much attention to the news. Too many medical appointments to keep up with.

Absolutely, Mel you are not the lurker. Your tone is not hateful like our lurker. You are totally welcome to contribute to a civil dialogue here. If we don't agree we will say so, but as Meg said we may also find areas we can agree.
Another terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain, again with a vehicle. How can we prepare for and/or guard against such attacks when vehicles are readily available everywhere?

Most of the terror attacks by vehicle seem to be happening where there are lots of people gathered. They are an easy target and they can attack a large number of people at the same time. I will try to avoid large groups. Though at this point in my life I am not anywhere where there are large groups of people. But I guess it could happen anywhere.

I typically don't go to large gatherings of people so I consider myself relatively safe although we have had a few incidents at Walmart, nothing like a terrorist attack, but a couple bomb threats which turned out to be hoaxes. We have been given training on handling active shooter situations but I think if it ever happened I'd probably panic. I guess what keeps me grounded is my faith that I won't die until the Lord is ready for me.
I do hope Mel comes back. There are reasonable people who are not conservatives.

Gary, there are lots of reasonable people who are not conservatives. Years ago I used to post on a Yahoo political board and we had a really nice group of people posting. Yahoo closed those boards and I lost track of them. I think when you have a group of men an women posting they don't get so nasty as just a group of women posting. Well that has been my experience.
Mel and I both post on the over 60s WWOW board.

So is anybody in the path of the eclipse? We are on the edge of it in Arizona but I think we have clouds and rain in the forecast for tomorrow here in the local area. it is a bit of a relief to me because our Walmart is sold out on the eclipse glasses. I might go outside for a bit but not look at the sun, just see if it gets any darker. It's not the huge deal many people make of it. It's just a moon shadow - I think Cat Stevens did a song about that.
I can't believe how bonkers the left is getting about Confederate statues. Here some of these statues have been around for years and years with nary a glance from them, but now they are politically incorrect. Totally bizarre.

Meg we are friends on facebook and therefore Messenger. Send me a private message on Messenger and I'll give you my e-mail address there. I know I needed your e-mail address to contact you on fb but I can't find it now.
Turns out it was a sunny day here and the partial eclipse was visible here but unfortunately I didn't have the special glasses. I tried to catch the image with a colander but it didn't work (I think I tried too early) but one of my friends on fb posted a cool picture of a colander image with a bunch of little eclipses. It got slightly darker here but we only had about a 60% partial eclipse here.
So what does everyone think of Trump's new Afghanistan strategy?

After looking at you tube & reading all over the web - I can only say we as Americans better wake up & fight for our country.
Do you remember when prayer was taken out of the school & we gave that inch & they took the whole mile from us & took the Bible out & put bad lessons in & the schools are now awful all over America. Education is not happening in today’s schools just political & social indoctrination. The schools aren’t safe either.
Now they are going after all the statues stating ‘slavery issues’. This will be the ‘inch’ if we give in. I think they will keep going until all the statues & mountain sides are removed & then will come the ‘mile’ issue. They will want to remove the constitution as it was written by slave owners. All the amendments will have to go also - like free speech, religion, gun ownership, & so forth.
What are your thoughts on this?

Totally agree tnpeg. I too remember having a prayer in class at the beginning of school, and when that was taken away, our teacher defiantly said, well they can't stop us from saying the Lord's prayer. Don't remember what happened after that. And textbooks? They are a joke now. Remember Orwell's "1984" in which every time a new political party took over all vestiges of the prior party was removed from the textbooks?... all history was changed to support the party in power. Yes, we are in great danger from the socialist left, but Trump is taking them head on. Did you all watch his speech in Phoenix tonight? He spoke for over an hour and attacked the media over and over. If I still lived in Phoenix I might have tried to go, but I hate crowds, and I don't want to get hit in the head by a protester.

I do believe that is the goal Meg.
But, all we can do is fight them.

Gary, I am sorry I never got back to you about the article I wanted to share with you. It was about all people who served during the civil war having the right to be classed as veterans regardless of which side they fought for. They are all Americans. I am just keeping busy with medical appointments. They have examined and tested me from one end to the other.
My DS informed me that in California they are or are going to check the signatures on peoples ballots with their original signature and if the signatures don't match they will throw them out. So I am 81 years old I have arthritis in my hands and my eye sight is not great and my hand writing has changed a lot so are they going to throw away my ballot. The Democrats are in charge here.

So they are going to compare signatures years apart that can change for several reasons, but they can't be bothered with asking for a voter id? Crazy liberals.
The devastation in Texas is just mind boggling. I was born in the Texas panhandle but the devastation is more south. Praying for all of them.

Yes Gary the people in Texas need our prayers. My DS mentioned this morning it is good to see people helping each other regardless of race or creed. That is what America is really all about. Some of the rabble rousers need to get busy and help their fellow man instead of trying to divide us from each other.
I did live in Texas for a short time in the late 60s. My DD was born at Lackland AFB in San Antonio.

Hi Geri, good to see you here today. I haven't paid the other folk a visit for a long time. They just make me depressed and who wants to read something depressing. I am glad you found them funny. Good idea to ignore them.
