Good morning Ginny and thanks for starting us off for another week
Part of the sun is missing already. But it's still bright and sunny. Hazy because of smoke but sun is very visible. People will be happy. They showed a pic of the interstate which is usually pretty empty looking and it showed bumper to bumper traffic down near Cheyenne.Yes Ginny, I'll be glad when this day is over. I'll still stay home till at least next Monday. Already the police arrested a couple men for having several different illegal drugs they brought with them.

well that was pretty awesome but it didn't last long. Two minutes 42 seconds supposedly. If you blinked you missed it.

Good afternoon ladies,
It is a very nice day temp. high will be 87. Devin went off to school very excited about the eclipse. I am sure I will hear a lot more about when he gets home. I didn't watch itbut I noticed that my patio was darker than usual for awhile.
So I am staying home today and have been reading this morning. I worked on my b/blanket last evening and listened to an audio book. Not Danielle Steel, I started another one. The b/blanket is almost finished 2 more rows & the border should do it. Then I will have to start something else.
I will check back later.

Well, I got to see the eclipse from the shore. We had planned a day trip to the beach, which was where we were at 2:40 for the peak eclipse here. I did not have special glassses- we just stayed under the tent on the beach and observed the reduced sun light. Pretty cool- but honestly- not worth going nuts over. For me, I was happy that the temperature dropped a few degrees as it was hot on the beach. But then you all know how much I dislike hot weather. Anyway, its lovely being home again. And I got to read a bit and crochet quite a bit while on the beach.
Meg, I am sure Devin will come back from school very excited about the eclipse- or at least I hope so. Is science a favorite subject of his? Glad you found a new audio book to listen to...a good story is such a wonderful thing. How many books do you think you go through a month?
Ruth, well lets just hope that all the crazies pack up and leave your area now!!! Sounds as though you had a pretty impressive show from the sun and the moon- was it a total eclipse by you? Here we were at 70%.....still an impressive event and pretty cool. Enjoy getting back to a normal life, which I know you will . Well, I have been up since 5, so i think I will go to bed. Hot and humid are on tap for tomorrow....and I will be very happy to be home. HI to CJ and Phyl Ginny

Ginny, i hope the weather cooperates and cools down some for you. Ours has done that. Did you swim?
Yes we were right in the center of the path of totality which is why so many people came here. The eclipse was total for 2 min and about 43 seconds. As I said, it was an awesome sight. One I'm glad I didn't miss
Meg, I hope Devin learned a lot about eclipses and got to see some of it. Did he have glasses. I bought eclipse glasses a few months ago online so that I would be prepared and they worked wonderfully. When it was in totality you couldn't see it any longer thru the glasses you had to take those off but I was just holding them in my hand in front of my eyes so I quickly lowered them and was able to see the corona.
Cj and Phyl, I got you had a good day too.

Good morning! Ruth, glad that the eclipse was such an amazing specacle for you to observe. Being a few miles further south (150, approximately) and closer to South Carolina, I had thought maybe we were in for a closer to total eclipse. Anyway, I am glad to hear that you wore the glasses and got to witness a brilliant show of Gods majesty at work. Now, for your sanity, let the loonies all return to wherever they came from so that life can resume to normalcy.
No, I did not go swimming. Have not done that for years. Its one of those things that I have come to over the course of time. As a child I was ok with salt water and the feel of sun screen. Now I dislike the feeling of both....I did wade in the water a bit late in the day helping Dd to look for shells.
Hope everyone has a great day Ginny

Yes it was 100% totality here so it was wonderful and the whole time I stood looking at it all I thought of was God's amazing work
I didn't realize that you traveled so far to the beach but I was wondering where the beach was. I Hate the feel of sunscreen too and also insect repellent. Both are very nasty feeling. I'd love to see an ocean again. Two years ago dh and I talked about going to the Oregon coast and even kind of planned our intinerary but then decided that it was just too much driving. It would have been over 1000 miles each way.
Last night I worked on crochet again. Finished up one little outfit. I used a American Girl doll pattern as a general guide but modified it to make a roll neck sweater. The pattern was for a sleeveless kind of tube top but I added sleeves too. The roll neck was sort of created accidentally when I was mindlessly crocheting and forgot what I was doing and made too many rows but then inspiration hit and I said "hmmm, why not roll this into a neck for a sweater" Turned out really cute. Then I started on another sweater top that I'm not sure what it will end up being right now. I'm thinking it will end up being a top and I might make a skirt to go with it since this doll already has a dress that started as this same top.I think that after this one each will have the same number of outfits and I can just make little extras or go on to something else. I'm sure the girls will share outfits anyway and trade back and forth for their dolls even though the three dolls are slightly different in size.
I hope all of you have a great day. I'll also be doing a little more straightening up and organizing. After the "kids" leave I'm going to attempt to organize the garage

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I tried to post here yesterday but the board kept kicking me off - very frustrating. Ginny - I hope you enjoyed the beach, I used to love to go to the Outer Banks NC, but haven't been for years. I look at webcams every day though, so it's almost like being there. That was a cute story about your DGS falling asleep on the tractor ride, I'm sure those grandchildren are a joy to you. I'm putting the Mocha Frappe recipe in a separate post below. Ruth - How neat that you got to see the full eclipse, it was amazing to watch. I especially liked the view of it at the Grand Tetons, seeing the mountains get dark and then light again. We only had a partial view here and I didn't have glasses so I stayed inside. That's interesting that people get so much money for those CPK clothes, you could probably make some money if you wanted to sell yours but I'm sure that takes away a lot of he pleasure. Meg - I hope you are doing well. It sounds like you're enjoying your books and keeping busy with your DGS. It's great to hear you are working on another blanket too. Phyl - Hope you are doing well and getting in some crafting. I cut some fabric pieces the other day from the flannel I have, but I think I'll put that project aside and try to work on some other quilts that I need to finish the piecing on. I also cleared around my sewing room again because it was getting cluttered and I just can't work when it's like that. Take care everyone!

MOCHA FRAPPE RECIPE
Note: It's recommended to freeze the coffee as ice cubes to make the best consistency for the frappe. I did freeze the coffee using 4 teaspoons of coffee and 3 cups of water - and made 12 ice cubes - there was some coffee leftover.
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup of cold coffee 1 cup milk 2-3 Tablespoons of Chocolate Syrup 2 Tablespoons of Sugar - or artificial sweetener 1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder - if you want it If you are not using frozen coffee cubes, you will need to add some ice - I'm not sure how that would affect the taste.
Add all ingredients into blender and mix.
HERE'S HOW I MADE IT:
Here's what I did differently for the low fat/low sugar - which serves 1-2 people :
1. I used 5 frozen coffee ice cubes 2. I used Fat Free milk 3. I used Lite Hershey's Syrup - and I'm sure you could use the Sugar Free syrup
4. I added one tablespoon of Hershey's Cocoa Powder 4. I used 2 packets of Equal
It was delicious and I only had to use 3 points for it (on the old WW Momentum plan).
If you make it let me know how you like it. I think it's a recipe that could be adjusted very easily for completely Sugar Free.

CJ, thank you so much for that recipe. I know my dh will love it. He used to drink iced tea all the time but started to drink iced coffee. He doesn't use any sugar in either of those anymore. Now he has those "shakes" I mentioned also and I know this frappe is something he will like. He does put milk in his iced coffee and since he likes cold drinks I know he'll like this. He drinks cold drinks all year round, rarely has a hot beverage...just opposite of me. I have hot beverages all year. Neither of us drinks alcoholic drinks of any kind. For sweetener when he used to use it he used stevia which is a natural sweetener so we have a ton of it around from before he quit using it. This frappe is something that I would like too even though mostly I'm not a fan of cold beverages. Thanks again

Ruth you are one creative lady! I am amazed that you can alter patterns like that to make what you want.- and of course, have it all come out adorable. I am in awe of that talent.....and I hope that the girls really appreciate what you are doing for them! When does your company leave?
My crafting? Well I did work on the afghan a few minutes, and am harvesting my dried peppermint and chocolate peppermint for tea. Not sure if that counts but I am going to count it anyway.
Hi to Meg, CJ and Phyl. Cannot wait for the cooler weather to come in. Ginny

Well of course I did not refresh this page and missed CJ's post.
CJ- many thanks for the recipe- think I will give it a try- it does sound really really good. Again thanks for posting.... Good to hear that you are starting to think about crafting again- prioritizing your projects and getting your craft area cleared up and ready to go. It does seem a bit warm to be working with flannel- think I would have put that away also.
BTW, the beach we went to is Island Beach State park- its lovely, very well run and very clean. Its just south of seaside heights -which is rather like a zoo. GUess the state park fees keep the loonies out.
Have a good evening Ginny

For anyone using the current WW system, the frappe recipe still checks in at 3 points a serving- with skim milk and regular chocolate syrup, and truvia. G

well I do think that harvesting peppermint and chocolate peppermint count as crafting. Making a nice tea is a craft.
Thank you Ginny. I've always considered myself to be pretty noncreative but I do seem to be good with adjusting and altering patterns to make something entirely different using the basics of that pattern. Maybe I'll have to rethink my creativity. I do start with the same pattern many times and make some entirely different looking things from that same start. I think that all of us that do crafting or very creative. Quilting is definitely a craft and a gift. You have to be very creative when making a quilt. First you have to know how to pick fabric, then know how to put it together to make it look great with all those different fabrics so I do have to give the creativity star more to the rest of you
Well I got my little alcove downstairs where I store most of my extra canned good, etc cleared out and organized better. I also cleaned off my desk and the little organizer magazine holder things where I keep bills. I can't believe I still had utility bills from 2014! So they went in the "to be burned this winter" bag. Now I just have to dust the desk. My other goal today was to clean the bathroom just outside the master bedroom but I haven't got to that yet. I think I'll take a break and do some crocheting. I also need to get my dgd's bday presents wrapped ready to pack. Her 6th birthday is today but as you may remember I always send late. That way they get to have two birthdays. And this year of course have to wait for the "loonies" to leave. There is still a huge camper in my neighbor's yard so at least one set of guests is still there. They're actually smart to wait until the mass exodus is over.
CJ, it sounds like you're getting your crafting spirit back...little by little you'll be back doing more of it.
Meg, I hope you're resting today.
Phyl, I know you're busy as usual. I hope the hip feels better.
