We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

JA attacking Senator Corker of TN for his comments about his stability and fitness for office. Ha! That's the only thing Corker has done in the Senate that I approve of. Corker did a lot of good things for Chattanooga as mayor, and he is ambitious. Not sure if he'll run for the Senate again, or if he's possibly eyeing a run for the Governorship here, or maybe even challenging JA. Regardless of what he does, he knows how red TN is and didn't make that statement lightly. I'm sure it was very carefully considered. It most likely means he's taken a read on the Rs in TN and the rest of the country, and he thinks JA is slipping with them, losing the support of all but his most radical base. Good news!

"Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper have entertained the idea of forming a unity presidential ticket to run for the White House in 2020, a source involved the discussions tells CNN. Under this scenario, Kasich, a Republican, and Hickenlooper, a Democrat, would run as independents with Kasich at the top of the ticket, said the source, who cautioned it has only been casually talked about. "The idea of a joint ticket has been discussed, but not at an organizational or planning level," said the source, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity. "What they are trying to show the country is that honorable people can disagree, but you can still problem solve together. It happens in businesses and it happens in families. Why can't it happen in Washington?" -- CNN website

Not likely to happen, but what do you think?

Well, we've tried everything else when it come to political parties. So, heck, why not. I too, highly doubt the majority would go for it & it would depend on who's running on the Dem's& Rep tickets. I think it's high time it should be more than a 2 party system. We need to start thinking outside the box so we don't end up with yet another JA in the Oval Office. I think 2020 is going to be a free for all.

"JA attacking Senator Corker of TN for his comments about his stability and fitness for office."
Which only confirms that Corker is 100% correct!
Anne, I love the article about the supermarket in Germany. The Germans are much wiser than us. The German people lived through the unspeakable horrors of red hot hatred brought to them by an out of control maniac. Unhinged, hateful, pathetic, and angry people are revving up the same kind of deadly rants with weapons in their hands, on Main Street, USA. While the unstable and unfit JA in the WH embraces, winks, and nods at them. I hope we don't have to get to the same place the German people did before we end this madness. History is our greatest teacher.
BTW, my spouse, Joyce, and I were discussing the eclipse...again. lol. I was babbling on about how wonderful it was to see all those people from different backgrounds, religions, political leanings, etc. gathered in one place to enjoy such an awesome and spectacular sky show. So many people enjoying the wonders of the world instead poking and jabbing at each other. You know I can go on about a thing, right? lol.
When I finally got around to asking Joyce her thoughts she simply said, "Even though there's darkness for a little while the Light always returns."

"Even though there's darkness for a little while the Light always returns." Pat your Joyce is a very wise woman. Please tell her I love what she said. Need to remember that, as it gives us all hope.

Linda, I agree a ticket like that might be worth trying. Kasich was the only one in the R clown car this time around that I thought made any really good points. He seemed like a thoughtful, reasonable candidate. Of course, look at who he was being compared to so it remains to be seen how good he would seem on his own. Still it might be worth giving some consideration to if it could start us back on a path of healing and working together again instead of such terrible partisanship all the time. Worth thinking about anyway, but I very seriously doubt that it would ever happen. For one thing both political parties would be dead set against it, so it would definitely have to be a grass roots movement.

I think the only way this country is going to survive is by a grass movement to restore unity. Both the Dem's & Reps seem to be stumbling a lot with this a lot.

So JA and family are bankrupting the Secret Service trying to protect everyone on all their many, many trips business and otherwise. Where are all those Rs who were having hissy fits every time President Obama, Michelle, and the girls went home to Hawaii for Christmas?
I get that both JA and his family need to be protected. I don't want anything bad to happen to any of them. But really, there needs to be some sort of guidelines in place. For example if Tweedledum and Tweedledee otherwise known as Don Jr and Eric want to travel to Dubai on Trump industries business, then I think if they are going on business for the family corporation then they should pay for their own security. Jared and Ivanka want to go on multiple ski vacations, they are grown adults with their own families, and they should pay for their own security detail. When JA, Melania, and Barron travel I can understand the Secret Service picking up the tab, BUT they should not be expected to pay rent to Trump Tower or Mar-A-Lago or the golf club in Bedminister. When the Secret Service has to pay rent to those places, then that is JA bankrupting the SS on our dime and paying it into his own pocket. Really, that's just not ethical, and it is way past time Congress set down some rules of engagement here. Just saying . . .

Kind of stinks that many secret service peeps will go without a paycheck til end of year & I'm sure these men & women have families of their own & regular bills just like the rest of us. I really hate the fact too, that Jr & Eric get protection while on family business. They keep bragging how rich they are, so please pay for your own security.
Dones anyone have suggestions on how to relieve a viral bronchitis cough. I've been coughing all week, went to Dr this morning & of course since she feels it's viral at this point,no antibiotics. So, I have to wait it out, but boy, I start coughing & I just can't quit for several minutes then it settle back down for a short while & then we start all over again. UGH!!! DS #2 swears by hot whiskey & honey...I may resort to that ...I asked him if that's because you drink then you forget the coughing because one is drunk...LOL.."No Mom, just one" ...anyway, any old tried & true old wives tale cures?

Go with the lemon, whiskey and honey but dilute the whisky with water. You can even boil up some tea w/a clove then add the rest.
I like Elderberry wine.
Actually!!!!!!!!!! lol

Thanks, Anne.. Yes, I diluted the whiskey with hot water & added Manuka Honey from New Zealand. The Ricola natural cough drops do help some inbetween the coughing spells. Also have some Tesslon Pearls ( benzonate) I been using ...not sure how much they are helping during the day, but do seem to work better at night. This is some nasty crud. I sound like a barking seal when I get too coughing!

Sweetie that much coughing just wears you out.
Looks like Harvey is up to a CAT 4. Wonder what DonJohn is going to say when it is over? "That's too bad!" (his comment about the loss of the sailors on the McCain)

Well JA slipped this in under cover of Hurricanne Harvey! Ana Navaro's response is dead on... occupydemocrats.com/2017/08/25/trump-just-signed-transgender-military-ban-ana-navarros-response-epic/JA was out tweeting about fake news this afternoon before saying much about H. Harvey..Jim Accosta from CNN took to Twitter to answer JA saying something to the affect that now is not the time to be tweeting about Fake News when so many in TX are depending on the news to probably save their lives in the face of H. Harvey.

As he was boarding the helicopter to fly to Camp David for the weekend, a reporter shouted out....
Reporter: "Mr. President, do you have a message for the people of Texas?" President Trump: "Good luck to everybody."
So, Anne, you weren't too far off in your thoughts on his response!
