Ginny, whenever you mention your dgchildren it always reminds me of something one of mine did. When my daughters youngest was little, he, too, knew where the food he liked was and he would get a little lunch bag and go around the kitchen and pack his "lunch". People seeing him would probably think they had no food at home
I'm guessing silver dollars you're talking about are flowers. I've never heard of them. If I lived closer I'd get some of your extra seeds although I don't know if they'd grow here. And what a nice thing to do to make a vase of flowers to decorate your dd's new countertop.
One week from today my ds and dgd will be here.DGD emailed yesterday and mentioned biscuits she makes and she plans to bring the recipe and make some for us while she's here. Her birthday is just a few days after they get back home so I'm planning on having a little birthday celebration here before they leave and I asked my ddil what dgd's favorite meal is and she said biscuits and sausage gravy. It sounds like dgd may be making that before the birthday celebration though so i'll have to think of something else.I'll find out by that time what another favorite is.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I hope everything went well with your surgery and you are feeling alright, I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I bet that was interesting being in England right after Princess Diana died. When I went there in 1982 I did the tour of Kensington Palace (the public part) so I could see where she lived Ginny - Sounds like you had fun with the grandchildren. I really like the Brother sewing machines, you'll have to go and look at them at the new store location when she gets them and see what you think. Ruth - I'm glad your blankets are coming along. I enjoyed reading about you treating your grandchildren. I don't have them but I always tried to be the Aunt that treated my nieces and nephews when I was with them. It was fun to indulge them since I wasn't their parents. Phyl - Hope you are feeling better today. I'm not sure if I'll do any crafting today, but I did order a few craft books from Amazon this morning, so I'm counting that. It's cool and rainy here today and I'm enjoying having all the blinds open and curtains pulled. We're supposed to get hotter weather in a few days and then another cool down. I love Fall weather so I'm looking forward to that. Take care everyone!

CJ, my sister never married nor had children so she was the aunt that indulged my children. She was like a second mother to my dd who is the oldest of my two. She always had my dd and my neice at her house where she lived with my mother and bought them all kinds of things and took them places. It's one of my dd's favorite memories..spending time with her grandma and aunt and playing board cames, etc.

Hello everyone, I survived my eye surgery very well and though I was aware of everything that was happening I did not feel a thing. The surgeon chatted all the time she was working on me explaining what she was doing. I didn't have a bandage just a plastic shield over my eye. This morning I had an appointment with her so that she could check my eye out. I can see very well and only have to wear the plastic shield at night to protect my eye. In the day time my glasses will protect my eye. I thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.
The sewing business seems to be doing very well are you all going o get new machines? I have a machine somewhere but I haven't used ity in years. I should give it to someone who could make good use of it.
cj, I am glad you enjoyed your trip to England and that you have good memories of your trip. I lived in England for 4 years in the late 50s. Then again in the late 60s for 4 years. I didn't spend a lot of time in London as I enjoyed the country side.
Ginny I hope you enjoy the last few days of your summer vacation. I don't ever remember seeing silver dollars. I am sure they were very pretty in your DDs kitchen.
Ruth, it is very nice for children when they have someone who loves them and spoils them. For me it was my grand father. I had him wrapped round my little finger. I always wanted to be a grandparent like him. Unfortunately my DGDs mother took off and left DS with 2 little girls and so I became more like a mother to them than a grand mother.
Phy, how is your hip? I hope you are not hurting too much.
I think I will read this evening and I hope you all sleep well tonight.

Meg, I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well and you're doing fine. I have to use glasses too. The eye surgeon said just get readers but that didn't work for me so luckily I held on to my glasses...trifocals...they work. I tried the no line ones a few years back. I just couldln't adjust to them and I'm not vain so I don't care what people thing about trifocals. I use them because I can see well with them.
It's just before midnight and I'm finally going to start on crocheting. DH talked about a nap early in the day but he just went to sleep a little while ago so he'll probably sleep for a couple hours then get up till morning but you never know.I did get a few things done today that I wanted to get done so I'm happy with that. I just have to keep reminding myself that company is not coming to inspect my house and that the things I may see that I missed doing are probably things they won't even notice.
Meg, I'm not getting a new sewing machine. I've hardly used the one I have. I used to have a Brother machine. I gave that one to my ddil too
See you all tomorrow

Good morning!
Meg, great to hear from you and to know that your surgery was a success! Glad that you did not feel a thing- and it is indeed reassuring when your doctor chats with you throughout the procedure so that you are aware they know what they are doing. Guess the whole process has really changed in 15 years, which is when my mom's cataracts were done (approximately). You crochet the rest of us into oblivion.....so I would not even think about you getting another machine. We all craft as we like here, with our very generous definition of crafting.
CJ- so you are going to tease us by telling us that you ordered craft books from Amazon but did not mention what kind of craft? Hope your books come quickly so that you can get those creative juices flowing. Hope that they arrive soon!!! Gotta say, I am slightly jealous of those who have been overseas- my sole venture into another country was to go to Canada. I too am a Princess Diana fan, and have enjoyed watching the recent programs on her life. She was a complicated and special woman- it does seem a pity that the world lost her so young. I do have one show still on DVR that I have to finish viewing. BTW, my DBIL and DSIL in florida had no children, and hands down they are my kids favorite aunt and uncle.
Ruth, you will once again be busy with company. Sounds like fun- also nice before the true cold weather arrives. Love the story about DGS packing his lunch. It sounds like something our DGD would say or do. I am sure you will be able to find something else to make for DGD favorite birthday dinner. Funny how we all seem to gravitate to those comfort foods for birthdays.
Silver dollar is technically called Lunaria, and will grow in zones 4 through 8. (Go online and look for lunaria, when cleaned they are stunning). I did save the seeds as I cleaned the ones plants for Dd- which last a long time- although I replace my bouquet as they get dusty. Indeed they are pretty and easy to grow.
WIth Dd home I get little crafting done. Yesterday was a lot of cooking and wash. Let's see what today brings.
Have a great day Ginny

Good afternoon Ginny and all who come in later. Ginny I did look up the silver dollar flowers and found that name so I realized I had heard of them but have never seen any. They sound very pretty and we're in zone 4 so maybe they would grow. I'll have to look online to see where I can order some seeds. Hopefully next summer I'll be able to actually do some things outside. This year from May to the beginning of August I couldn't do it.
I did a couple things earlier but am taking the day off because it's so hot then this week I'll put the finishing touches on one room and day, do laundry and shopping and maybe take all the bags to GW.The rest of the day my plan is to sit and crochet but we'll see if that changes once dh gets up from his nap.
CJ, are the books you ordered all quilting books.
Meg, how's the eye today. Are you seeing all the brighter colors? Are you going to have the other eye done soon? It seems like you may have said you were only going to do one
Phyl, How's the pain? Have you been able to get out and do the things you like?
Have a good day all

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm happy to hear the surgery went well and everything seems good. I hope you'll have a fast recovery. Ruth - Take it easy in the heat. I'm sure you're anxious to have everything ready for family when they come this month. Ginny - Hope you get in some rest and crafting time today. Phyl - Hope you are feeling better. One of the books I bought was on Embroidery - and specifically about making Samplers. I think it would be fun to embroider one of those. The other book was one with quilting motifs that can be used for both hand and machine quilting - I thought it might come in handy. It's a little warmer here today, but still not hot. We're supposed to get a few hot days coming up and then back to cooler weather in the 60s. When I was out today the battery light came on in my car, so I'm going to have to see what that is about. And here I was thinking I didn't have any appointments this month and now I'll have to deal with "car stuff" Take care everyone!

Hello everyone, I am having a lazy day and staying indoors out of the heat. The high today will be 107. But tomotow it will go back to the 90s and then we will have a few days in the 80s witch will be a welcome relief. I haven't done any crafting though I did check out some patterns on Pinterest last evening. I am seeing very well and don't seem yo have any problems apart from a little gritty feeling sometimes. I have 3 different drops that I put in my eyes 4 times a day. but I am happy to say everything is going well. I started this post hours ago and forgot to finish it.
Ginny the medical world as changed do much and a lot of surgeries they can send you home on the same day. Also they don't like to keep patient in ther hospital any longer than necessary because the hospitals have a lot of germs. A DR. told me that. I looked up your flowers and they were very nice. I don't think they would grow here.
cj, I hope you enjoy your books and I hope you get lots of new ideas from them. I found a book on my book shelf today that I bought just over a year ago. 101 best Diabetic Foods. I spent some time reading it and there are some good recipes and information that I hope to use. I think I bought the book and forgot about it.
Ruth, when does your company arrive? I know you will have a great time.
Phyl, hope you are keeping well.
Now I am off to read before I go to bed.

Ginny, well if you don't mind I'd love to have seeds. There's no hurry of course since I won't be able to plant them till next year now because they would freeze if I planted now if they germinated and sprouted and I also have to find a place for them and prepare that space. I'll send you my address in email.Yes I can't believe it's Monday tomorrow either. I hope you really enjoy the next two days before you have to go back to work.
Meg, I'm glad you're doing well. Back in the old days when they removed a cataract they couldn't replace the lens. When someone had that surgery done they were admitted to the hospital and had to stay, if I remember correctly, a week and maybe it was even longer. I can't remember how long they had to lie in bed with the patch and cone on and move as little as possible. They weren't allowed to get out of bed, bathe or even feed themselves. Then when the eye was healed enough they had those super thick coke bottle bottom glasses. I'm sure glad that medicine has progressed way beyond that.
Meg, my company comes this coming Saturday if all goes well and there are no airline delays
CJ, your books sound interesting and I'm sure they will be a big help in inspiring you and also in giving instructions if and when you need some.
