Hi all. I frequently read your posts (and agree with your thoughts) but haven't posted anything until now. I found this and thought it is something that needed to be shared. One big difference between JFK and Trump.
"JFK's constant back and intestinal problems inhibited his entry into WWII. However, he strategically took advantage of his father's influence and manipulated the system in his favor. He was admitted to serve in October, 1941, and despite his medical setbacks, he experienced extreme success in the war. He orchestrated and championed the key survival mission in the gunboat's 1943 sinking."

My heart is really breaking tonight. On his "day of prayer" (a real sad joke that is) the destroyer-in-chief chooses to end DACA protection for 800,000 young people who were raised in this country and led to believe that this was the great country of their future (for they truly know no other).
I spent many years of my teaching career working with ESL children, children brought to this country from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras Costa Rica and other Central America countries; India, Bangladesh, Vietnam and China. Young children ages 6-12. I never questioned the "how" or "why" they were there-- my job was to help them learn to read as they learned a new language in a new country. Most of them must be young adults now perhaps with families of their own. Perhaps they have become citizens, perhaps not, but they were brought to the US as children by the choice of the adults who cared for them and know no other country.
I do not understand how some can be "sent back" to somewhere that is not their home. I can only hope that the rest of our elected officials fight this ruling and Americans across the country understand and resist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

"President Trump risks doing more harm than good with his latest rhetoric over North Korea.
After Kim Jong Un's regime carried out its biggest nuclear test so far on Sunday, Trump fired off a series of tweets, including a warning that he's considering "stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea."
The extraordinary remark was clearly aimed at China, which accounts for roughly 90% of North Korea's international trade.
Experts were quick to point out that halting commerce between America and China is virtually impossible.
"This isn't even in the realm of the remotely plausible," said Edward Alden, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations who specializes in trade. "Even assuming trade with these countries could be cut off it would cause enormous damage to the U.S. economy."
By issuing a warning that his administration couldn't enforce, Trump undermines the credibility of U.S. government statements on North Korea and other delicate issues, analysts say.
"First rule of diplomacy is never make a threat you can't carry out," tweeted Mark Fitzpatrick, executive director for the Americas at the International Institute for Strategic Studies." -- Jethro Mullen @cnnmoney

This man is a menace to the entire country and the world. How can Republicans continue to just let him run unchecked?

I had hoped against hope that he was going to let DACA stand as it is popular even with a lot of Republicans, but I guess we now see that his jealousy of Obama is all consuming. If the reports are to be believed, DACA is gone unless Congress steps in to save it.

Did any of you see the segment on MSNBC recently where a group of Pennsylvania voters who voted for JA was interviewed about how they feel now? They each seemed to regret their vote, giving multiple reasons why he has been a disappointment to them. These were more moderate Republicans, and I hope they are better representatives of the party as a whole than his rabid base. Judging by these JA voters, if a challenger comes out against him for the 2020 nomination they will side with the challenger. I believe he will definitely be challenged for the nomination, but between now and then there is going to be unimaginable damage left in his wake.

Thanks Luanne for sharing the JFK info. I've always enjoyed reading all things JFK. I know his personal life was a mess at times, but I think he was a compassionate smart politician. I always wonder what direction the country would have went in regards to Vietnam had he lived.
Pat, gosh, after reading your post I can truly see why this DACA situation affects you so personally. I have a special place in my heart for Teachers but especially Sp Ed teachers & others working with kids such as you did. Thank You!
Joyce, JA is just going to kick the problem to Congress & wipe his hands of it. He'll say legally he had to but still has "heart" for the DACA kids. I call BS on that!...When push comes to shove do you really think Paul Ryan & the rest of the GOP will back up their words about saving DACA... I rather doubt it. These kids are going to be hanging in Limbo forever before someone grows a spine & saves them...
This NK business is getting alittle to hot for me!..And what's with Gen Mattis calling him "King" Jung Un ...hope it was just a slip of the tongue, but really? I guess in some ways I don't care what they call him as long as this gets resolved without conflict.

Joyce I did see those voters. I hope you are right about what kind of voter they represent. I guess I just can't see what these supposedly informed voters saw in JA to vote for him other than the fact they just did not like Hillary. And what did that give us...a president who is determined to destroy everything good in this country because of his petty, selfish, jealous personality. And so, now they are sorry about their vote...well, too little too late IMHO!

I have met Dreamers, I have been reading, and seeing on the news, their stories. My hope is that Congress will grow a pair, put down their party divisions and put together a bill that will protect these young people permanently.

Hailing from the great Commonwealth, I can attest to the general sentiment from so many here that voted for him - disappointment. I saw a graphic that showed Kim Jung Un has done 84 missile tests since Trump's inauguration. His father Kim Jung Il did 16 over the course of his lifetime! Hope everyone has a good holiday!
