Does anyone know how to add a picture--it wants a URL when I go here? Wanted to send you my harvest moon resting pic--put it on FB this morning on my walk. When I walk in the morning I can almost forget the fear of starting a nuke war and the sadness of PR and the anger about these horrible guns. I think nature while it can be vicious can also fix our emotional side. I love that you volunteer, Sue. That is my weak area--I justify it by m work with Jordan and helping m housekeeper but I know I should be out there somewhere helping in a bigger way. BTW, last night Jordan texted me wanting to know if I could help him with a dilemma--it was so neat--he has a chance thru key club to go to Six Flags in CA but didn't know if he should spend birthday money from DD and me on fun--the text exchange was so "cute"--not really the right word--as he was struggling with guilt of spending money on fun--finally after suggesting all the things to weigh in on I told him he would be such a success in life because he is thoughtful and will make good decisions really thinking about what he will feel good about when the money is gone. Finally he decided he would go, take no extra money with him and deposit the balance in his bank acct so that he would not be tempted to buy snacks and silly stuff--we both gave him 100 so that works. The trip includes meals so he won't starve. Then he sent me a picture of his first calculus test--college level--he got 100% and the professor wrote "yay" at the top! Told him he can consider his trip a reward for working hard! The kid is just amazing!

Joan - you certaibly don't seem to have a weakness in volunteering - it seems you do a lot. Wonderful that Jordan is making good decisions and consults with you on it!
Sue - I hope the studio thing works out. I know how the art work fills up your condo - it seems ideal that he is considering using a studio. Great that you are enjoying the volunteering - you can probably fill up your time with that if the jobs don't work out.
We went to see Dunkirk tonight. Was not sure what to expect. My sister didn't enjoy it. We thought it was a good movie though ofcourse very violent - after all it was war! A little hard to follow in the beginning but you soon understood what was going on. I sometimes have problems in a fast moving movie like this was, understanding the English accents.
Great weather continues here, but the weekend should bring rain from the hurricaine. Looking at the weather station now to see what is happening with that.

Hi!
I had a nice lunch with friend, she told me she's pregnant! Funny, when she and ex-partner were at dinner at our house a couple of months ago, she said she couldn't drink any wine, SO and I thought she was pregnant but she said she wasn't feeling well. As it turned out, they had just found out and didn't want to say anything so early. This is his second marriage and he already has 3 grown kids.
Joan, you do so much and spend a lot of time helping Jordan and your housekeeper, and don't you also do stuff for your manicurist? That is plenty. Jordan just sounds like the best guy! Jojo, glad you enjoyed your movie night
It is rainy and dreary here. Tonight, the same friend and her husband (ex-partner) are coming over for cocktails. I'm making a Parisian savory "le cake", to go with wine. Something I've been thinking about as a product that I can sell.

Another horrific disaster now in CA! DD has a friend whose house burned to the ground along with over 2000 others. They had a huge beautiful home but the dad and girls got out safely--mom was in MX.
I am t erribly tired again today--waking up way too early.
Making salmon patties agaian, salad with good vinaigrette and butternut squash.
Reading the most amazing book book that I just love--The Hidden Life of Trees. Wow it is so full of surprises!
Sue, am curious about your "le cake". How was it?
DH worked all day on cutting back some trees I threatened to hire out. Yay!
BF wanted me to sub for their bunch group tonight but said no--I just want to read and go to bed!

Guess everyone is just busy. Horror in CA--already know two of the people who lost their homes and one their whole place of employment as well.
Did the gym and then worked like crazy in backyard. I cut all the cat claw vine which was about fifty feet of totally gone crazy vines--pulled all off the walls and helped bag--we have about twenty 33 gallon garbage bags full of vines and cut up tree branches. DH has stuck with it so thought I'd go out and do that as he has not really wanted to--OMG it looks so clean. There is so much out here that needs doing!
Finished my tree book--it is so amazing!
guess I will make turkey burgers for dinner.

Hi!
Had dinner out last night with my HS friends. They were late bc of traffic and I sat next to a group of 6 middle aged (my age) wealthy suburban, blonde, tanned women. They were soooo loud and was very rude to the waitress. Omg, my friends and I told the waitress she was great dealing with them with so much patience and grace.
It was a relatively new second restaurant by the chef of what I think is the best restaurant in the city - he won top chef one year. Excited because he is opening up another restaurant in my neighborhood soon.
Joan, le cake turned out great! having made it before I tweaked the recipe a bit and now will have some more tweaks after this time. Wow 33 bags of vine!
Had a good time with our friends. Tomorrow we have another dinner out with the ex-partner and wife who have been borrowing SO's paintings.
Alot going on this week! And more to come.
Very sad, shocking the extent of the fires in CA. It just all seems to be getting worse and worse on all fronts.
Big news, SO reserved cruise in Jan. - 38 days! Going from Miami to Capetown!

Wow Sue! A 38 day cruise! Where all will you go? Will you have several day stops in places? How exciting! Your cake sounds very interesting. Keep us updated.
Today worked in the yard and did laundry.
Lasagna and salad tonight,
Joan, so very sorry about your DD’s friend’s house. How tragic! So wonderful that they are all ok. The fires are so terrible.
Finished DH’s sweater whichcame outpretty good. Working on a v-stitch throw now.
I haven’t been walking lately and can tell a difference in how I feel. Really need to get back to it. I think I rationalize that the yard work makes up for it, but it doesn’t

Good morning!
Frightening world we live in. I am so emotionally distraught over PR and CA that I could not sleep. And waking up to the tweet threats to end helping Puerto Rican's as they are now dying from lack of sanitary water sort of puts me over the edge! So I gave up on sleep after a terribly restless night and walked--this stress level is helping me stay fit as it is my refuge.
Aimee is packed in her camper ready to evacuate--her whole town is on warning for that. I just cannot imagine this and seeing the 3000+ homes and buildings burned to the ground literally with hundreds missing is so horrific!
Going to the gym and then the Vegas Strong Healing Garden and then a masssage. Afterward some more yard cleanup.
Sue UN how many of the 38 days are you on the ocean crossing?

So glad that my children are not in Calif anymore! Houston was bad enough! Joan , sorry about the sleeping,
Trying to blow the yard every 1-2 days to stay up with the leaves.
Went out tonight for a Italian. Good! Eggplant Parmesan, salad and tarimasu. Wine too of course. Probably too much wine!

Hi!
It's been dreary here the last couple of days. It was nice to see our friends for dinner, they went to Capetown last winter and we got some good information from them.
The restuarant however, did not do a good job. I had been there before but no one else had - I thought it would be better because when I went they had just opened. Instead it was worse! The food tasted fine, but 2 of the dishes came out at room temperature and the sauce for my duck dish was almost congealed! We sent it back to be heated up but of course, it didn't get fully heated. Very disappointing as I had wanted the restaurant to do well.
Last night SO and I went to James Beard Foundation dinner which I bought tickets for about a month ago. It was interesting, we had never been to one and I just wanted to see what it was like. The participating chefs all had won awards this year. Food was very good and we came home with goodie bags. Met some interesting people at our table.
So today I'm vegging out. Do some household stuff, gym.
Jojo, the cruise starts in Miami and will go down to Brazil, Argentina then across ocean. There will be some days where the ship will dock in port over night. I think there will be 5-6 days ocean crossing.
Joan, it's terrible everywhere it seems. I hope Aimee will be ok.
Too much socializing. Tomorrow we are going to 20th anniversary of a restaurant in my neighborhood, the more formal restaurant next to the one I interned at. Going with our neighbors who were also invited.

So Sue, does that mean most of he trip will be in Africa? Will you get to go in and see wild animals on preserves and stuff like that? Have you been to South Am before? Sad that the restaurant did not live up to the chef's reputation--sounds like bad management if cold food is being served!
Tonight we are having DD and her BF over for shrimp and grits and the marble pursuit game which he wants to learn. I have logged in all my food for the evening already. Bumped up a couple pounds but I think it's just that--have a feeling it will be back down tomorrow. My leg and knee still not perfect so am not walking today--just did my body roller class. Yesterday I walked in the afternoon after dance and weights in morning.
I joined Acorn which is like Netflix only all British tv --we watched the first new season Doc Marten last night-was so fun! I love British tv shows and it's only 5$ a month--plus I got three months free on their current promotion.
Cool and breezy here today.

Hi all! Cool and breezy here today also. Really a dramatic change in the weather. The leaves are falling like crazy and I am trying like crazy to keep them off the lawn. I got out at 9am this morning to have the lawn prepared for the Tru-Green people to treat it. They usually come in the morning. By noon they had not come so I called to tell them I had cleared the leaves and pinestraw and hoped that they were comining as promised. She said that they were on schedule and would be here. They never showed. I hate this kind of thing. They had called Fri. to say they would be here and then I Called today!.
Sue - how disappointing about the restaurant! Hope the next one turned out better. The cruise sounds great. My son and his wife visited S.Africa about 5 yrs. ago and loved it. They went on a Safari (very controlled environment, I'm sure) and had wonderful pictures.
Joan- you are doing great with all of your exercise. I have lately depended on my yard work for exercise but need to get back to something more intertional. Love Doc Martin - he is such a character!
This weekend went to my high school class birthday party for all of us! We all turned 70 this year and wanted to celebrate. We had about 100 people there and it was fun. A little long though - starting at 4p and going until 11:00p. We arrived at 4 and left at 9 - DH was great to even stay that long. Things like that are never as much fun for him as me. He knows some of the people though the years but it's just not the same thing. It was casual and we had barbeque from a local place that is really VERY good. Left to come home about 10am yestereday.
Last night went to see the new Spider Man movie. It was so funny and very enjoyable.
Have been working on an afgan but get bored with it; so started on some socks. Serioously considering teaching myself to knit. They say that learning something new like that is good for our brains in old age. I need anything good for my brain! LOL!
Next week The walking Dead starts a new season. I got so into it last season. Can't wait for it to start. If anyone told me that I would be so addicted to a zombie series, I would have never believed them - but the characters and story line are fascinating. The newer series Fear the Walking Dead is not as good - I have tried to watch it but don't have the interest in it that I do in the other. Joan, I like British tv too. DH can't stand it and I love it, so I have to watch by myself.
Tonight had baked chicken breast, fresh green beans, and Parmesan yellow squash.
Holly - are you currently knitting anything? Do you still use Knitpicks for yarn. I LOVE them. What was the name of the other site that you sometimes use? I can't decided if I want to learn to knit or to learn Tunesian crochet(similar to knitting). Do you ever do any knitting on the round wire needles? They are used in Tunesian crochet.

I need to get back to watching The Walking Dead. I am in Season 2. Working my way through Star Trek: The Next Generation right now.
I use Ravelry.com to find patterns and just ordered a few books from Interweave. Jimmy Beans Wool is another good site. Right now I am working on a few items for the Art Sale coming up in November. We did a table of knitted/crocheted items last year.

Hi!
So much going on here.
The 20th anniversary party was fine. Went with our neighbors who knew some people there. They have gone to other events that this restaurant has had, primarily to raise money for their chef that was paralyzed in the major train accident, 3-4 years ago.
I volunteered this morning and in the afternoon, one of our ex-colleagues came over with his son for a visit and catch up. I did a lot of heavy lifing stuff this morning.
Having another ex-colleague and his husband over for dinner on Fri, so have been planning that. I'm not going overboard.
Joan, most of the trip will be going down South America. We will stop a Namibia then Capetown. We'll stay there for 3-4 days. Our friends said that is enough for Capetown. We will already be gone for 45 days and will want to just go home. I'm thinking of doing a version of srhimp and grits (maybe panfried polenta squares) as first course for Fri
Jojo, so aggravating when they don't come as promised! You've arranged your days to accomodate them. I hope they give you a good reason. Glad you enjoyed your group b'day celebration! I feel the same way about Walking Dead, addictive once you get into it.
Holly, you seem busy lately. What are you making for the art sale?
Getting cool here again, but warming up later in the week. Overall, though, a very warm fall.

Have been distracted and busy running around--today was Jordan's orthodontist appt at 9, gym for two hours for yoga and weights and then quick bite for lunch and haircut and color, target run, run to beauty supply for hair product and finally home--it is 4:30! Crazy day. Housecleaning tomorrow so must get picked up around here tonight, iron sheets and then will probably read. Jordan is now reading Crime and Punishment for English so I think I wil do it too. He has all A's so far-15 college Dr and two HS classes--pretty impressive!
We had overcast skies all day today which is unusual for here but nice.
i noticed I was getting sort of neck pain in my workout clothes and realized it is the tee strap sports bra that must hit a nerve somehow on my neck/ shoulder area. Found a regular shoulder strap one at Steinmart and voila--no neck pain-I love it! Tempted to go buy a couple more
wow Sue after 48 days at sea you will reallly have sea legs! Have you been to any of those places before?
I am thinking about having a yoga party as a Christmas gift to my yoga friends from the class we used to go to together and then have hours d'oeurvres after--talked to our former yoga teacher and asked her to come up with a fee of one hour of class. Would do it here. I think I will make polenta mushroom appetizers--they can be made ahead and baked in ten minutes, caprese salad appetizers, and butternut sq soup and tomato basil soup with small sampling bowls. Plus some fresh bread. Looking at the week after Thanksgiving or week before--I don't want my Christmas tree up cause need the space. Have to come up with a cute invite idea--thinking ten people plus the teacher.
So if you did S And grits with polenta would you serve that like an appetizer form--like a cookie sized polenta with one shrimp or what?
I cannot watch Walking Dead-- I guess I am not good at stressful TV series cause I cannot watch Game of Thrones either and DH loves it. I even gave up on Outlander--too violent for me.
I just have not done any sewing on Molly's quilt in forever--I don't know what my problem is! Hearing you all talk of knitting and crocheting like crazy makes me feel very guilty about not having done it yet.
I would be so so upset if people had claimed they were coming to do work and were a no show twice!
