ONce again some maniac has shot and killed multiple people. With the acceptance of depraved behavior in our society and world there is sure a huge increase in very evil acts. We need to get back to the basics of loving one another and living as we should. What could possibly cause a person to shoot at and kill many others that he doesn't even know? It's just more act of the evil in our world these days and people who cannot control their behavior.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I can't understand someone who can do this either. So sad for so many people. Hope you didn't get any damage from that hail storm. Ginny - Hope everything is going well with the trip and the weather is good for you too. Meg - Hope you are doing well and crafting some. Phyl - For the Pork BBQ I used a seasoning packet from McCormick for BBQ Pulled Pork. You mix the spices in the packet with ketchup, apple cider vinegar and brown sugar and pour them over the pork in your crockpot. I cooked mine for about 8 hours at low heat. Here's a link to McCormick's page so you can see what the package looks like and hopefully find it in your grocery store: www.mccormick.com/recipes/main-dishes/slow-cookers-bbq-pulled-porkThere are a lot of good McCormick seasoning packets. I also like the bag and season Pot Roast package and sometimes I don't even cook the meat, just carrots using these spices: www.mccormick.com/spices-and-flavors/recipe-mixes/bag-n-season/bag-n-season-pot-roastWeather is still really nice here, sunny and in the 70s. I haven't done any crafting, but hopefully soon. Take care everyone!

Ginny thank you for getting us started for another week. I hope it will be a good week for you.
Ruth, I was sorry to hear of the shooting this morning. There are just too many killings which is sad. I think there have been a lot of killing in the past that we did not hear of. With TV, phones and the internet just to mention a few ways to communicate with others we hear of these killings almost as they happen. Years ago we did not hear about a lot of what was happening . But I would agree with you that it is a lot worse today.
Today I have been trying to take care of odds and ends that I have been putting off. The oxygen tanks were picked up early this morning. A lot of that stuff was in my bed room and now I have more room to move around. I finished Devin's slipper boots and I made a mistake in one of them so I am going to make him another pair because his feet are really growing and I will keep the first pair for myself. I need to finish some of my UFOs.
It ids time for Devin to come home from school

CJ, it's so good to see you. We often get hail and our roofs show the results. It's usually quite small hail so doesn't do a lot of visible damage immediately but the effects of it add up on the roof. Insurance covers it but of course the deductible is high.
I think I would do just veggies too. I'm not all that fond of meat anymore. I knew a woman who would always cook a pot roast then give the meat to her son and keep the broth to cook her veggies in. I do like putting in my own herbs and spices though so I don't buy the McCormick packs but I think they would be very helpful if you didn't want to have a lot of different spices sitting around esp if there are some you don't use often. Those pack would come in very handy.
It's cool today. It got into hte 30's during the night and when I got up...late... it was still in 30's but did warm to 50. I'm making an enchilada casserole and some mac and cheese with added meat for my dh to eat in the coming days.I still have some of the chicken I cooked the ohter day. He's eating the breast slices in bbq sauce in sandwiches and I'm working on the thighs. We used the wings and two of the drumsticks for in the soup as well as the breast meat that crumbled while I sliced it.

Hi cj, we must have been posting at the same time. I have used those seasoning packets also the bags that you can cook your roast in. Sounds like a good idea for vegies.
The weather here has been wonderful today sunshine and a nice breeze. I have all my doors and windows open and no air conditioner on.
Hi Phyl, what are you up to?

Good evening!
I will be brief, as this has been a very long weeken.
CJ thanks for posting about the McCormick spice packets- I use them sometimes too. a THey make a really good one for mesquite buffalo wings- but I am having trouble finding that now.
Meg, glad you have good weather and the airconditioning is finally off!!!
Ruth- indeed these are serious times.....and why would a person want to take innocent lives? How very scarey...and heartbreaking
We got home around 3. Had to stop at the food store later to restock staples.
Got a lot of crocheting done in the car. Also had to derange and ball the darn yarn. Didn't we just have a discussion about that?
Phyl- hope you had a good day Ginny

Meg, I didn't see you there. Don't we always do that. If we find a mistake no matter than it makes no difference in the final item we'll either take it all out or keep it to use for ourselves. I know you're glad to get all those tanks and things out of your bedroom. I know I sure would be.
I've used the cooking bags a couple times when I found them on sale. They really do do a good job
Well we'll have food for a few days now. Dh always ends up saying that we have too much food but he's the one that wants all of it made. He eats way more than i do. I usually eat two meals a day and he USUALLY eats three big meals. He very rarely has traditional breakfast but sometimes one of his meals might be bagels and cream cheese but mostly he'll have a regular meal in the morning before going to bed...he has trouble sleeping as I'm sure I mentioned before so he's usually up all night. Then when he wakes up and a couple hours has gone by he'll eat another whole meal and in the middle of the night another one. He is a bit overweight but luckily doesn't seem to be gaining any.
I have oatmeal with fruit and kefir every morning (although my morning might be noon or after by the time I get around to eating), then I might have a snack later then a traditional meal in late evening about 8 or so.So we hardly ever sit down and have a meal together and don't eat the same things.I like to eat while reading or watching tv and he does the same. Having company we all ate at the same time which, as I said, was very different for us.When they were out we reverted to our usual and are back to that now.
I didn't realize that Ginny and her dh weren't coming back until today so hopefully they're safely home now and getting ready for the rest of the week.
Phyl, what are you up to today? oops I see Meg asked the same thing

Ginny, oh there you are. I'm glad you got home safely and prayed a prayer of thanks for safe travel for you.
I also finished my fingerless gloves and started another pair of mittens but didn't get far at all with it yet as I decided to do my cooking.
Looks like it's going to snow here soon.

hi, no bumin with delona this week. her dh has knee replacement In the am. we did met at macs for breakfast.
then I went to shopko and the quit shop. had to get some fabric for the Christmas stocking I am making. needed something to go with what I have.
spent the afternoon in the playpen getting things ready for sew day. boy that takes work.
the yahoo page is full of stuff about the shooter. sounds like mental illness runs In the family. espically with his father.
they can say, analyze all the want it won't change anything now.
I always have felt powerful weapons should only in the hands of law enforcement and our military. I do not have a problem with true collectors, people going to the gun ranges, hunters or people who have a gun just in case they need it for protection.
thanks fort he information on the pulled prok. phyl

Good morning! Ruth, good thing you have done a lot of cooking- nice that you can take a day or so off from the kitchen and just reheat what you made. Wow is it cold enough for snow by you? Guess where you are its two extremes, cold winters or hot summers.....little in between. Glad you are done with the fingerless gloves...what color will the mittens be?
Phyl- were you able to find fabric that coordinated with what you have for the stocking. Who is the stocking for? Hope that Delona's dh does fine with his knee replacements. Glad she has a good friend like you during times of need.
the situation in Los Vegas is so sad- just awful. Going back to the bombing at the BOston Marathon, where the brothers made bombs from pressure cookers, those with a mind to hurt innocent people will find a way no matter what laws are on the books. IMO we need greater vigilance in all areas of our lives, and good security at the hotel in Los Vegas could have prevented this horrible incident.
DGS is here gotta go Ginny

Good morning everyone. Snow is on the mountain again this morning but none down here. There may have been some during the night but if so it didn't last.and Ginny, you nailed it. Yes there are only two seasons here....too hot and too cold.
Yes dh likes when there's food made and he can just heat and eat. He has two ex brothers in law that wouldn't eat leftovers so he always told his sisters to save the leftovers and we'd take them. Of course they didn't do that and neither one was a very good cook anyway.
Ginny, how was the wedding?
Meg, did you get the new slipper boots started or are you working on the afgan first?
CJ, soon we'll be hearing that you're back into crafting in full swing again
Phyl, will be praying for Delona's dh to have a successful surgery and speedy recovery..
Today my plan is to do a little cleaning and reorganizing in craft room where I made a mess looking for yarn and work on mittens. I got one almost done last night when I finally got started again. Just have to do the thumb. They're in wool ease and main color is called blue mist which looks to me more like a dark gray and a band of a color called butterscotch in the middle jut under the thumb. Band is probably about 1 1/2" and looks very nice. I didn't know if I could make mittens but I think I got this. Thank you, Lord, for your guidance.
Ginny, I don't think I knew you grew up in NJ. I've been there maybe three times. Two were to Ft Dix to brothers' basic training graduation and once to Atlantic City before it was a gambling town so you know that was a VERY long time ago.
Well have a great day all and I'll see you all later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I hope Delona's surgery is successful too. Hope you have a good time at sew day. Meg - I'm sure you're enjoying the cooler weather. Glad you got some of that stuff moved around and also finished the slippers. I'm sure you'll get the other ones done quickly. Ginny - I'm glad you made it home safely and got lots of crocheting done in the car. Hope the trip was enjoyable. Ruth - You're weather has gotten cold at night. Hope you are able to get your cleaning and reorganizing ready today. You are so quick on getting those mittens made! I like the bag seasoning packets by McCormick, makes for an easy clean up. I also use the Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners in my crockpot. That Pork BBQ lasted me 3 days! Now I have some turkey slices that I need to eat this week, so it will turkey for several days at my house. I hope to get back to crafting at some point, just need to wait for the mood to hit. The weather has been so nice - sunny and around 70 degrees, just perfect. Unfortunately we're going back into the 80s later in the week, with some humidity and maybe rain. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
CJ, I did not know the humidity was returning also.....yuck. That does not make for a fun time at all. Of course you know the mood will hit you- it just has not hit yet. Cooler weather makes it comfortable for playing with fabric....and also as our worlds become a bit more stark (no pretty flowers) bringing in color in fabric does the trick. Think we need rain, so I will take it if we get it. I have never used the crock pot liners- sounds like they are a good idea though.
Ruth you are fortunate that your Dh eats leftovers. Mine does too, but with limitations. It can be very challenging sometimes. Do you find wool ease easy to work with? (I do).
Ok ya really want the skinny on the wedding? My niece looked lovely- although I am not a big fan of "hair do's" and really prefer more natural looking hair. So I do not think her hair flattered her at all. Her husband- well, seems a bit arrogant, but she has been with him for a long time and they seem happy....so who am I to judge! I wish them all the best. The wedding itself was disorganized and lacked a flow. Upon arrival, we faced multiple different approaches regarding where the ceremony would take place and who would sit where... it made for a very confusing ordeal. Yes they did have a rehearsal the night before, and I have no clue how the wedding could have been so disorganized it they had a rehearsal. And my sister, who is older than I am, made a ton of effort to incorporate elements from cousins weddings that we attended 50+ years ago when we were kids. I do understand....she has lived in this mid western state for 40 years and felt disconnected from the family so this was her attempt to establish a connection to our upbringing. But, neither of us is who we were 50+ years ago- and her attempts to include elements from our childhood came across as disjointed and made no sense. Of course when all is said and done, as long as the bride and groom are happy with the wedding, then who cares, right? And if I sound snarky, well, I am honest.....
Oh well....gotta go look something up for Dh. Hi to Phyl and Meg Ginny

Ginny, the thing I don't like about weddings is the dresses brides pick now. EVERYONE wants s strapless dress and there are absolutely some people that definitely should NOT wear strapless but I agree too that as long as the bride and groom are happy with everything then it's fine. I haven't been to a wedding in years. None of my grandchildren have married yet and who knows if they will. I'm sure the ones in Indiana will someday but right now they're all too young. No you don't sound snarky at all, you're just related your observations and giving your thoughts on things.
Just went to Walmart site and ordered some barettes for dgd who's bday is coming up. They have it all set to look like it's going to be shipped to you and I was careful to order enough that shipping would be free then after I put in the order it said that when items are ready to be picked up they'll let me know so I had to cancel that order and put everything back in the cart and make sure it said it would be shipped after that. I learned to be careful on Amazon because they're sneaky and even though you're entitled to free shipping they try to put you to the shipping that is not free so each time you have to check carefully. So now I'll remember to check carefully on Walmart. I did receive a jewelry case and rollup bag that I ordered her on the walmart site the other day. It said mini and it was very inexpensive so I wasn't quite sure what it was going to be like but it's great so I ordered one for each of the other girls today.
I'm working on my second glove and will finish it tonight. Now I'm looking for a place to donate them and I think I've found it. It's a church not far from me that collects and distributes winter clothing so I'll make them some hats too. When I take the mittens and hats to them I'll ask about baby blankets. I do think that True Care would accept blankets but I haven't contacted them yet.
Ginny, I do love working with wool ease. The only thing with it is that although it's a #4 it's not nearly as thick as the other #4 yarns so you really can't mix wool ease with any other. In fact I don't really think that all wool ease is the same because the other mittens I made were also wool ease, same pattern, same hook, but they came out larger. Still I like it and my friend from the old ww board sent me a bunch of wool ease so I'll use it for this purpose. I think she would be happy with that. Of course I will also use some of it for my dgc's mittens too and I know she won't mind that either.
Get a good night sleep all. Cj, I'm sorry about your weather. Heat plus humidity is not easy to deal with.
Maybe Meg will stop in.
Phyl, how did Delona's dh do with surgery? Will he be going straight home or to rehab for PT?
