Good Morning Marm and LTMs,
This morning it was 16º (feels like 0º) and going up to 28º and cloudy with wind SE 16 mph today.
I’m the only one up so far this morning but Sophie came out looking for breakfast so I put her out in the yard and then fixed her food. All is quiet now except for Sophie’s crunching.
MJ took Hannah and Rachael to Lincoln yesterday to get their nails done and do some shopping at the mall. King, Sarah and I had a quiet day at home. Sarah got her homework done so is all set for school on Monday. With the cold weather Bailey and Sophie aren’t interested in going outside except for a few necessary outdoor runs and are content to spend the day napping in the family room.
I slept well under one of the pink blankets Kathie warmed up for all of us last night.
Maxine calendar today: Saturday and Sunday: You can tell its winter. Supermodels are really starting to pack on the ounces.
Another Japan memory: Bill and I had been married one month when we arrived in Yokohama aboard the SS America Transport ship after crossing the Pacific Ocean in 11 days. It was a beautiful white cargo ship and had cabins for 12 passengers. There was a British sea captain and his wife, a missionary doctor and his wife and 2 little boys who were going to Korea, and 6 new missionaries with our Lutheran church in Japan. There was another newlywed couple and two single men on board. We left San Francisco harbor at about sunset and the Pacific Ocean was a beautiful blue. My mom and dad had driven us to San Francisco and were on the dock waving to us. We woke the next morning to a bright and sunny day and were greeted by the first mate at the breakfast table. He looked around at the table and said “Oh, oh, it looks like we will be losing money on this trip with everyone up for breakfast” and we all laughed. The officers ate with us and we had name plates at the table and I was seated beside him for the whole trip and he kept us entertained the whole time. The food was excellent and one time I asked if I could have just a small serving of the other main course they offered that day and they brought a whole serving. Needless to say I couldn’t finish it all. More tomorrow.

Good Morning,
DH didn't want to go out in the cold so we didn't go to early church. Maybe I'll get my bones ready & go to the later service but then it gets too close to lunch time when we get home. He was asking if we were going to WM today - I'm not sure what the difference is in going to WM or to church. Goofy thinking on his part IMO. There will only be a few degrees difference in temperature later & the wind is wicked going across WMs parking lot. I should have gone without him.
Dumb dumb me. We bought a mirror on sale for the BR & one just like it is included with the vanity. Another thing to take back, sigh. It will go back after we pick up the vanity & I can see what that mirror looks like. Too many things going on & decisions to make for my brain to process in a timely manner. I have been on a sabbatical for a long time where my brain only had to figure out what to make for dinner:)
Marm, yup, that's what I was talking about with the shower business. DH has been bothered a long time with his legs & hip. Would be nice if there is something to help him that doesn't require surgery.
Doris, I remember when I would get my nails done. Of course my older sisters did them. Don't think there were any salons for that back then or at least not in my small world. Maybe in the big cities but we never went to them.
Bipp, wondering if you got the snow & cold temps. I heard where we went in TX it was 21 last night with a high of 43 today. That is cold for them. They won't be going outside to do any work that doesn't have to be done at the park. Of course they may have broken water pipes that froze to attend to. And our 'home' in AL isn't much better. Of course DH still wishes he was there & not here.
Mary, hope all goes well for DH today. I wonder if they are so busy they have to work some people in on Sundays. I knit some on DH's sock again yesterday. It's not done but I'm ready to turn the heel now. Once that is completed the foot goes fast if I keep at it.
Gareth, I s'pose like other years you have had a slew of new people starting WWs this past week. Losing weight is a popular new years resolution for those who still make them. My dad's b-day was on the first & he would have been 127 years old! He died before I was two so I don't remember him at all. I have always felt a close connection to him though & remember him on his b-day & when he died. I still wonder what kind of man/Dad he was. Years after his death I got a picture of him so do have an idea what he looked like, otherwise that is a vacuum in my life & a sad spot. Treasure the memories you have of the loved ones you have lost.
Ruth, have you started to warm up? We are suppose to be 44 Tuesday with rain, so I thought maybe you were sending us some warmer weather. I remember sucking icicles & Mom telling us they were dirty so today it would be much worse. That was so much fun, but I wonder why? Probably some make believe idea went along with it.
Well I'm struggling big time with some of the keys this morning so going to hang this up. I think DS is taking my computer to transfer everything this week - maybe tomorrow. The guy won't do it he said during the football games, so tomorrow they will be over for a few days. Not sure why cause once it is started everything works pretty much on its own I think & it should go fast.

We're planning on having on having our postponed Christmas this afternoon with DS and family. Suppose third try at it is the charm?! Hope so. As it is I'm out of the Christmas spirit as it is but it'll be good to get together anyway. Besides we have gifts to open. DS will call on his way home from work and we'll leave to go there then. He's planning on bringing pizza home from where he works. Kind of disappointed because I'm sure all the goodies DDIL makes for Christmas will be gone by now but probably just as well anyway. I really don't need them but I do enjoy indulging every Christmas in what she makes.
Marlene, sad about not having memories of your Dad. No stepdad either?
Mary, such a cute picture of your latest DGGS on FB. What a nice knit suit he's wearing that you knit. I'm sure they don't want DH to miss a day of PT so he'll get stronger. Nice they come to you that you don't have to go out especially when the weather is bad.

Marlene, that's one thing about remodleing...just too many decisions. And I just hate returning things too.
No we never had our nails done as kids. If fact I've never had my nails done. I know there are people that have manicures and pedicures all the time even children but I just never would want to pay the price to have nails painted. Of course we all have our priorities and if we work and earn the money we have the right to choose how we want to spend it.Primping is just not for me.I used to get my hair done when younger but that's it and never when I was a child.
Marlene, it is warmer. Right now it's about 38 or so and is to be warmer tomorrow and stay in the 30's all week so a welcome break.
My mother would have been 100 next year. So this Oct she would have been 99. Oh and yes, I'd bet all the WW meetings are packed this month. I see they have oprah commercials on ALL the time now. How long has it been since she bought into WW? Two years? She's still fat. She must be doing it the slow and steady way making "lifestyle changes" and hoping the weight stays off this time
I should go and watch football but I'm just not really into either of these games. I hate to see GB win.
Guess I'll do my online bills and then a little housework. Take care all.

No Gareth no step dad. Mom had 6 kids under 18 when Dad died. I doubt anyone would want to take on that big of family. Mom's DB helped us a lot.
Well my computer is gone to transfer stuff to DS's or rather my new toy/computer. This works very slow so won't be spending much time posting till it gets done.

Hello, all LTMs,
I am stopping by for a quick hello. I need to get the ground turkey ready for the stuffed peppers I'm planning to make for dinner. It's COLD here in SW Florida, just 36* this morning at 8 A.M. And, YES, that's really cold for us!
DH & I went to the mall in Port Charlotte, to Beall's, so that I could look at luggage again. I did find a set I liked & we bought it. It was on sale 50% off, plus another 25%, and another 20% on top of that. It ended up being a real bargain. The larger piece weighs less than 5#s, the carry on only 3.5#s! It is smaller than I would have liked, but will serve the purpose. The airline limits you to 50#s for checked baggage & we will be gone 2 weeks to Alaska in September & need cold weather clothes. They take up a lot of room! After we shopped, we walked in the mall, the track is 1 mile, so twice around was good! Now, we're going to walk outside to get the rest of our 10,000steps!
My WW meeting this week was packed! Extra chairs, a special section for "newbies" & they were called to the desk one at a time after completing their paperwork. Kept things moving smoothly.I think they may add another meeting there, but most will want to come to their "established" meeting to be w/ their group. I know I do. Just means getting there early, but the mall doesn't always open early!
Need to get that meat ready for the peppers. Have a great afternoon. Stay warm!
Rose Marie

Rose Marie, 36 is cold but I would say that to your Floridians it feels even worse than it does to those of us that have a real winter.
there are only 3 WW meetings a week here in this whole town so I bet they're really packed. Good thing I didn't plan to go. I wouldn't anyway because one is held early morning and the others in the evening. I never go out at either of those times unless it's a true emergency or I need to fly somewhere.

Gareth I somehow missed you in there. I hope you had or are still having a great Christmas celebration. Maybe your dil made more of her specialties just for this day or saved some.
Marlene, much as I hate to say it, Rodgers did a fantastic job with both those first half touchdowns...well either him or his teamates that caught the ball. Either way they did a good job.

Good afternoon all, Well, going to church went well, followed by a time of fellowship/coffee and cookies. We missed not being able to go for lunch with our friends however, but it might have been too tiring for DH as he hasn't been out socially like that for a while. We had an early lunch and then we both settled down in our recliners. I was just falling asleep when I had a phone call. DH slept until just before the PT lady came to assess what he needed. It isn't unusual for a few of them to work on weekends she said.
Speaking of ages of parents, my DF died in 1977 and would be 110 now. My mom died in 2005 and would be 107 now. I have good memories of both of them, and our DC knew them, too. Two of them even knew their GGF, but not for too long. They knew DH's parents, too.
Marlene, your DM sure had her hands full raising a large family alone. At what age did she pass on? Too bad you missed church today. It wouldn't have taken much for me to say today and DH would have wanted to stay home. I knew him getting out would be good for him and it was! I hope your computer isn't gone too long, but at least you have a tablet. BTW the Packers aren't doing so well at this time. Yay!
Gareth, I hope your family Christmas get-together went well today. I wouldn't be in the mood now either, but family time together is good any time. I could send you some of my cookies if you want, although I sent a lot of them home with a DGD yesterday. I kept Marlene's peanut butter oatmeal ones. They're good any time!
Rose Marie, its good that you are all set with your new luggage! Maybe you can wear or carry on with you one of your heavy garments, just in case you get chilly, or wouldn't they believe you? A wool sweater under a fleece jacket might be warm enough. We cruised up there in June and I dressed about like that. I took a zippered wool, hooded sweater, and I bought a fleece jacket up there, and it still is one of my favorite jackets now, (and a nice souvenir). What do they recommend?
Ruth, I've been a nail biter all my life so I would have had to get false nails. They would have been a challenge to bite. Like you, I had my hair set a few times in my younger years, but that was long ago. I used to get perms, too, but I stopped that about 25 years ago. I'm just a plain Jane grandma now. Happy with what I have, not wishing for much more.
Doris, with you living with a young family, you are seeing how the kids live now. I learned over Christmas, that even the young boys in high school go places to get their eyebrows plucked, etc. That surprised me. The girls, yes, but the boys? I'm way behind the times I guess. I bet that was hard for your parents to see you going to Japan at such a young age, just after marriage, but proud, too, that you had made those plans.
Well, I better go and get us something to eat. And now the Packers are ahead. Go Giants!

Don't sound like the Giants will win - I'm not watching the game, but knit till I made supper, that's over now.
Mary, Mom was just shy of turning 56 when she died in 1956. Dad died in 1940. There was 11 years between their ages. I think Mom did exceptionally well raising so many through our teen years & WWII when 3 brothers were in service. She was a strong gal & died way too young.

Well where did that post go?
Mary, my Mom was almost 56 when she died in 1956. Dad was 11 years older than Mom.
I did not watch the game but heard they won. Too bad; can't win 'em all. Maybe the Cowboys can beat 'em but doubt it. I'll to grin & bear it.
What the heck, it showed up now.

Doris, What fun for MJ and the girls w/getting the nails done. Wish our little dog didn't want to go out so often because he knows there is a treat. Even w/this cold. not to smart, Or maybe smart like a fox. Ha,ha.
Bipp, I know you enjoyed church and reading your book.
Marlene, So sounds like a lot of shopping yet to figure out what you do want for sure. Well we are hoping DH just needs injections for knees and hip. Was a nice long quick fix for the knee before. If needs surgery would rather he have it now than gets older as harder on him then. Hope you get your new computer back real soon and it all works right.
Gareth*, Well here's hoping there was goodies left just for you. Ha,ha. And that you ask,
Ruth, I've never had my nails done either. Only time hair done when the few yrs. I did get perms. But never last as my hair grew so fast, so was senseless on that to. I started cutting my own hair. And let it grow for a long time. I loved the way I cut it. And then yrs. later cut my hair short. Into a Pixie, everyone loved that to. But many of those cuts today look much different than then,. mine was like that skinny model back then. now I do go to hair dresser and cuts and she also styles all in one. Yes I can tell Oprah lost a lot of wgt. some that loses wgt. don't have to be thin. My mom lost 100# and still on the heavy side but she looked great and made it her goal wgt. One in my meeting now lost a number of lbs. Making that her goal wgt, but a lot more gone just the last few yrs. Looks great. And now trying to lose more. A shame they don't have a meeting in the daytime for you to be able to go to. I just always feel so lucky the way they have always done here.
Rose Marie, Geesh, your just not going to get your warming weather back. I think DD is going to have to do some shopping for new Luggage to w/the changes they made. You sure got a good buy.
Mary, So good all went well w/DH's PT and everything else. Hubby must be enjoying it to.
Well today was our norm for Sunday. and stopping @ KMart for script. Looks to me the store will close sooner w/everything on sale. And lot is buying it up. At least now they have check-outs open .If they would have had more before, More would have shopped. But all was bought out whatever they call it is why selling out, And they bring in there hired help for check-outs to. Boy I guess I do need some catching up on sleep I layed down @ 1:00 for a nap and slept till 4:00. My Mom would be 102, Lost her in 95 ,She was 81, so I figure I did have her for long time. Dad passed when 81 to .And would be 117. (S/dad) My real Dad would be 116, He was 49 when passed. I was 11. I do remember the good times. Feel so lucky what I did have. But tears shed what I wished I had done to.
Sleep well friends.. Marm~~~

Mary, my father died in 77 also He was 56 years old. My mother was 81 when she died. She had a very long history of high bp and ended up with heart complications and had had several strokes the first of which was when she was 41 years old. they said she wouldn't make it but she did and actually after recovery from that one was much better afterward and was more energetic and seem to feel happier than ever for quite a few years until she started having more strokes after the age of 75 or so.My maternal grandmother lived to be just under 102.My dh's grandmother was almost 100 when she died.
