People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.

I did gain 3 at my WI but since I told myself I'm doing what I need to do I'm not stressing about it and just going to continue doing what I'm doing. Our meeting was packed! I was wondering if it would be as 10 minutes before the meeting time there weren't many people but then all of a sudden they started showing up. Our leader spent the meeting asking what our goals were for the year and said old members could read over the new material on their own and ask questions at future meetings. New members were asked to stay after the meeting to have the program explained to them.
Not much going on here today. I did get laundry done yesterday. We're going to get in the 20's today so will get out for my walks again. Fred said it will feel like a heat wave!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Sandy

Good morning We got more snow but then again it is winter so I guess I'll just have to accept it. Temps is 4 degrees right now and wind chill very low. I will be going out after breakfast to snowblow the driveway, my back and knee is hurting so will take an Ibuprofen before. Sandy...love your avatar, sorry about the gain but you are doing the right thing and just keep doing it.

Good morning friends.
I've taken a vacation. A vacation from eating healthy, exercise, tracking and the planning. I just got so frustrated with this food allergy. We stopped at a fish place on our way home from a tournament. All the grilled entrees were cooked with butter spritz, so I had to eat fried chicken. Same thing happened again friday. Carbs have replaced my low fat healthy dairy. I just get tired of dealing with it all. Back to tracking again.
Sandy hang in there. I remember once before you started a walking regimen and had a gain.
The deep freeze has gotten as far south as south central Florida. It is 36, feels like 28.

Greetings: Ah yes. Winter. I keep telling myself we've done the right thing. I just wish I believed me. It's the DGKs I think about. If it weren't for them... Oh well. I also think that it's has taken a long time to get here. We knew the house would take this long to get built, but did not expect the Tucson house to take so long to sell. Price down again.
Packed a couple of boxes yesterday. I found a book I knew I had but hadn't seen for such a long time. It was in the "wrong" section.
Yesterday was just walking, didn't get to the gym. Today is my 11 a.m. gym yoga. No plans for today other than pack and I am going to make those kale chips! That kale is just gorgeous. I guess I need to write myself a note that says, KALE, on it and then maybe I'll remember!
Geri, thanks for the info on the pants. In fleece they would be warm and I bet they are comfortable!
I've been making wool dryer balls. The most challenging part has been finding something to wrap them in for the first wash. The recommendation was old panty hose, but I don't wear them. I was going to buy some knee highs at the dollar store, hoping to find 2 or 3 pair in a package, but no, just 1. Maybe Walmart! I did finish one set and have been using them, but I want to wash all of these at once -- I have 8 or 9 balls to felt now.
Have a good day, all!
Sharon, you sound so down. Hopefully you can get a lift today. Marlo had a simple recipe for muffins that didn't have dairy in it. -- on yesterday's thread, I think.

Joanne--I just can't bear the thought of having to shovel snow. I am so glad to be away from that kind of weather.
I have on jeans, my pj top and a sweater but the sun is shining. We have no where to go today -- which is good.
I want to do laundry today and go thru the pantry and get that organized again. It has been a mess since we went to Costco and Walmart a couple of weeks ago and bought a lot.
Our concert at the clubhouse was very good last night. The man was Doug Cameron and his two sons aged 8 and 10. The 10 y/o has tried out for America's got talent and they are waiting to hear if he gets on. He was so talented and the two kids were just loved by this community of seniors. Lots of personality and the 8 y/o was typical squirmy little boy. They played violins and there was a problem with their equipment but the audience didn't seem to mind. I don't watch that show but if I find Alex is on I will want to watch. He did the Ray Charles version of America and brought the audience to their feet and they ended with a great version of Georgia on my Mind. and he and his Dad did a great version of the Devil went down to Ga. The father was the "star" but this kid definitely has a musical future. Since we had been moved to another table we were seated with some people we liked so that was good, too. I explained to one of the men at the other table that we had been asked to move and he said we should have refused or asked for a refund. I also had to explain to our new table why we had been put there. And they said ---we are glad to have you so that made me happy.
Ok laundry time

Just a quick note. I haven't read the back posts. We drove home yesterday in the snow and the kids' flight was cancelled so we are sitting in front of the fire. Big C learned some new knitting skills and is practicing. DD is in her PJS reading the New York Times cover to cover and DSIL is out running in this ridiculously cold weather. DH is going to cook Chinese for all of us. Little c is bundling up to go out to play in the snow. All is well and very pleasant.
I didn't gain weight even though we ate VERY well, only went out once. I brought soups and other foods I prepared and froze. Tomorrow I start colonoscopy prep. I cross country skiied, we all tried snow shoeing and LOVED it. I read, knit, chatted with people in the lodge in the AM while everyone down hill skiied and then some of us did the activities I can do in the afternoon so lots of exercise and lots of good family times. We played games in the evening in front of the fire.
Karen: How do you make the drier balls from wool? I have PLENTY of wool and would love to make them. I have been meaning to look up the recipe, but if you have instructions, I'd love them.
Tomorrow I have PT in the AM...and am a bit sore from the different exercise experiences; walking seems to be best for me right now, but it was worth it to be with the kids. Slow Walker is back from Italy so I need to connect with her. I have a lot of work for the art center that can't wait any longer and a colonoscopy on Thursday. Busy week!
I hope everyone is well. It does seem to be cold all over the country! Tons of rain in California. Is anyone experiencing normal or pleasant weather?
I will try very hard to catch up with everyone tomorrow. Brownie has been well cared for in our absence and was very happy to see the kids!
Ann
Any suggestions for "colonoscopy meals"?
Ann

Good afternoon friends!
I could not get up for my usual WI, but got to the second Sunday meeting. I am up 2.6 lbs. Not surprised, as I had a bit too much to eat yesterday, including a big soft pretzel at the opera. There is a lesson there about those big, carb-filled pretzels. I also am not yet back to my usual activity level. Working on that!
This meeting was a wonderful one. Supportive, motivated group, and it was a great discussion. The topic for the week is YOUR TOOL KIT. While there is a lot of valuable info in the weekly about digital tools — the awesome website and app — we focused on whatever tools were valuable to members. So I will ask you in that open-ended way as well.
QOTD: What is your most valuable tool in living a healthy lifestyle? Why? How does it help you?
Now I will go back and read your posts. I’ll be back.

AOTD my most valuable weight loss tool is my tracker. Lately I've had a love-hate relationship with it, but have tracked so far today. It keeps me real and not fool myself.

Sandy, that’s a great mind set to take into the New Year. Do the right things and the scale will follow. And even if the scale doesn’t follow, you are doing the right things for your health so keep on doing them. Oh Sharon, I love the way you put things. Vacation I guess I took one too. 36 is cold for FL! We are, of course, much colder. When I went to WW today it had just gotten into the double digits. Geri, I have harem pants, I think 2 pair. They are warmer weather wear. So comfortable. Good luck with the AZ house Karen. Glad you got a good table Jane. The concert sounds like fun. No suggestions for colonoscopy prep meals, Ann. Just sympatico feelings. I had a lot of jello, and hot broth helped fill me. AOTD: I love the bar code scanner on the WW app. It allows me to purchase wisely. I often look at ingredients after the scanner gives it high points and find there is more sugar or fats than one have expected. It is fast too. My second most important "tool" is the meetings. I always learn something from the leader, and other things from the members. I get support too. I got to the meeting as my usual meeting was ending, and got many hugs and questions about how my first winter without Mort was. Today I got a new soup recipe from my leader. You all are right there too. I consider this my daily WW meeting. I don't know if I told you, but my DS and a work colleague just started their own law firm. Keeping my fingers crossed for them. The name of the firm is fun. Pierce, DGS#1's first name is the last name of the senior partner, and Sergenian is David's and my last name. DGS Pierce got a chuckle out of that. Such a competitive field. Hoping good things for them. Have a great rest of your Sunday. I'll check in later again. Gail in MA

Gail I loved that bar code scanner too. You could even use it to add it to the food "library" so it was there for the next time. Now I am tracking on sparkpeople and had to manually enter the info today. Stay warm friends

Hi Everyone! Happy Sunday! Late to the party today. We had a great time at the football bash and the Steelers won! Yay! This weekend's yoga and healing workshop & concert with Wah! was amazing. It was very well worthwhile and will help me in planning a group of private sessions with a student. It is cold here today. Don't laugh...It was only 35 this morning and that is cold to us in FL. In Tampa it was like Sharon said...real feel of 28. We will only got to 50 today. Brrr... It will be back in the low 80s by Friday so just need a little patience. After all...it is January I did not get my steps in yesterday. I had such a good week I had decided to give myself a day of rest. When I got home I had 4,000 steps but bumped it up to 6,000+ when I got home at 10:30. Karen, You were my motivation to make it to 6,000. Thanks! I am hoping to just make 6,000 today, too. Back to business tomorrow. Jane and Sharon, Vacation from plan for me, too. We Florida gals need to get back to it. Sharon, Sending ((HUGS)) your way Joanne, Sending sunshine to melt your snow. Cannot send warmth...yet Jane, The pantry and freezer clean outs are on my agenda for tomorrow. Let us know if Doug Cameron and his two sons make it on America's Got Talent. Would love to watch if they are on. Karen, I am curious about the wool balls you made to use instead of softener and dryer sheets. How exactly does it work and how did you make them. Ann, Bravo for maintaining and not gaining on your vacay! Good luck with your colonoscopy. Great QOTD Gail! QOTD: What is your most valuable tool in living a healthy lifestyle? Why? How does it help you? AOTD: Definitely my tracker. Currently tracking on MFP. It also has the scanner. Love that feature on it and on WW app. If I track the good, the bad and the ugly it does not get too ugly. I need to get back to double tracking on both MFP and WW. It keeps me eating healthier. I also need to tame the sugar monster and stop night time snacking. Vacation is over!!!
