This is a new thread. Most of us have our own list of things we’d like to change to make our lives better. You know, the ever popular, stop procrastinating! And learn something new! And get organized! And we all know about lose weight!
The purpose of this thread is to pick a habit each week or month and identify the steps we need to take to make the change. And then as we move on to make other changes, to continue the positive changes in our lives.
Make SMART goals. S. - Specific M. – Measurable A. – Achievable R. – Realistic T. – Time based. (Tell us so you commit yourself. Write it down so you know what it is.) There’s a whole lot of information out there about goal-setting. Work with what’s right for you.
Be sure to make a list for yourself so you know what you've accomplished!
And whoever gets here first starts us off!

Greetings: Yesterday I managed to get my 6K steps in but it wasn't easy. That's because the morning started so slowly and I didn't go to the gym. I'd like to have an exercise-free day. Saturday is the best day for that for me.
I even packed two boxes yesterday and found a book I'd given up on. It was with the "wrong" crowd!
We also went out to that late breakfast and I had the lemon ricotta pancakes. I didn't think about First Watch being in the WW database. I "estimated" my breakfast. Moments ago it occurred to me I should look it up! Actually ..... I should have just forgotten about it! I was exactly 3 times too few points. So, there are all of my weekly points. They were tasty! I don't think to look up points even at the restaurant.
Guess I'll stay at the gym and do a little extra work with yoga today!
It's kind of like juggling, keeping all the little balls in the air... keeping them moving. May you have a great day at keeping things in order.

Or, maybe something adventurous in its own way!
Have a great day!

Good morning all. I think I need to change my way of trying to get in exercise. Instead of 15 minutes of exercise I maybe need to count steps. And I've been reading that article that I posted the link to and it says that over 40 we need more than just walking. I'm not too sure about that actually because a friend that is a couple years older than me...well over 40 lost a lot of weight just walking but it says we need cardio, strength, and well senior moment and I forget what the third is called.I I need to get the weights in a convenient place too so that I can at least lift them off the floor a couple times a day to get started. I still haven't got my notebook put together that I want to use to keep track and that's probably keeping me from or allowing me to not do as much as I should. Scale is looking happy today though. One of my goals before was to not let losing weight and thoughts thereof consume my life but a little organization will help.
Karen, I feel for you in all the packing to move. I can't imagine having to move right now with all the "stuff" we have. I've started weeding some out and have taken bag after bag to various charities. I know there are some that get receipts and look items up online to find their value so they can have that tax deduction but I've never found that I have enough deductions to bother going thru all the time and effort or expense of the long form.I don'tknow what else these people use as deductions that they have more than is allowed for standard deduction.
That was off the subject but as I used to say on my thread on the old WW board, everything in life affects how and what we eat. Most people eat because of some kind of emotion and the things that affect us in any way in life affect our emotions and thereby our eating and attitude toward eating and taking care of ourselves.
Well have a great day and also hello to those just reading our thread.

Hi Gramma Ruth, well, you just never know what is going to work for people. Maybe this thread didn't work for those who started. Yes, I've read that exercise needs to include cardio and strength training. I'm interested in what that third type is. Walking is still all purpose good. And for some it's enough. That's why I took up Zumba (for cardio) and a weights class for the strength training. I've also spent a year working with a trainer, but I'm about ready to let that go. I just need to cancel at the right time to finish up what I've paid for.
As far as donations, we get onto the long form with mortgage interest and everything else comes along behind. Arizona has a state tax which Wyoming doesn't.
Where in Wyoming are you? I spent 50 years in Sheridan/Big Horn area.
Yes, everything affects us ... totally agree. It doesn't compartmentalize.
Ruth (Florida), I made your kale chip recipe today. Delicious! I think next time I'll sprinkle some cheese on the kale. I was mulling over what to store them in, but it isn't going to be much of a problem. They are half gone.

Hi Everyone! Happy Sunday! Late to the party today. We had a great time at the football bash and the Steelers won! Yay! This weekend's yoga and healing workshop & concert with Wah! was amazing. It was very well worthwhile and will help me in planning a group of private sessions with a student. It is cold here today. Don't laugh...It was only 35 this morning and that is cold to us in FL. We will only got to 50 today. Brrr... It will be back in the low 80s by Friday so just need a little patience. After all...it is January Gramma Ruth, One of the things I used to do and want to do again is a 30 day arms challenge. Believe it or not it is easy and starts out slow. Completely doable! I have done it several times and the result is strong arms. When I first started I used 2 or 3 lb weights. The last time I did it I did a double sequence with 5 lb weights. Last Christmas I wore a sleeveless top and my DDil complimented my buff arms! Here is the link if you are interested: www.refinery29.com/30-day-arm-workout-challengeKaren, Glad you liked the Kale Chips!

BTW, just like I knew would happen, I did not get my steps in yesterday. I had such a good week I had decided to give myself a day of rest. When I got home I had 4,000 steps but bumped it up to 6,000+ when I got home at 10:30. Karen, You were my motivation to make it to 6,000. Thanks!

No exercise today and I am tired from driving in the snow last night and on some unplowed roads today. If I get to 4000 steps I'll be lucky. But tomorrow I will be up and at 'em.

Gail and Ruth, you have both done so well in your exercise that a day off won't hurt one bit. In fact it could be good. Ruth, of yes, I'll definitely be doing that arm series. Right now I can't seem to do weights at all for my arms. I do arm raises and other exercise without weights and the arms are tired so fast. I desperately need that program. I used to be really strong too. Karen, I live just outside Casper. How long ago did you leave Wyoming? I've been here since the end of 1989. Just in time to see the -45 degrees showing up on the bank thermometer from the rental we stayed in at first. My dd and I both told dh that we didn't sign up for anything like that...lol ok I just went and looked at the arm challenge. I laughed when they said start with 5lb wgts. I'll be lucky if I can do the 2lb ones for now but this sounds like a really great thing to do. I won't wait till Friday. I'm going to start this tomorrow.I have the site bookmarked and am all set with my weights handy. I'm also going to go now and look up what the third thing was they said we needed beside cardio and strength training. It still hasn't come back to mind. Ruth and Gail, Karen and I were getting lonesome here all alone so good to see you back

Oh stretching is the third thing they mentioned. Stretching has never seemed important to me. My dd always did stretches. A couple years ago she lost about 50lbs...wasn't that much overweight...and she did a lot of exercise and really looked good and also muscular in a good way. She's 42 and has had 6 children. She's found a little of the weight and is not able to really exercise now because of bad back issues but she hasn't gained much of it so that's good since extra weight would make it harder on her back.
oh and wanted to say that yes, cheese is really good on kale and with kale chips

here's a good article to read www.verywell.com/types-of-exercise-for-weight-loss-3495992And I checked on the arm challenge but I don't see where it says how many sets and reps to do or how long to do each exercise. I'll have to check it again Ok, wrong, it does have a calendar and it starts you slow. I can do this and I will do it. There's no reason not to. It even has a rest day in there.
