This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

I was the last to post last night, so again, I hope you read back.
I didn't sleep well last night, then was up at 7 am to get started so I could get DH to the airport. I knew no one would come around the neighborhood so early to shovel, and there was about 8 inches of snow. I shoveled a path out to the street, which I would say is about 50-60 ft, so I could walk the dog. Then I shoveled about 1/2 of what was behind my car, then went out after I had breakfast to do the rest. I did not clear the driveway, but will see if DS can come tomorrow before or after work to do some more. Driving to the airport was fine. Because the snow was on a Saturday, and it ended around 10 pm, the plows were able to get the parkways cleared OK. It took me only about 20 minutes each way to get to JFK, and to the actual terminal, seeing as it takes about 5 minutes to look around through the airport. Not sure if any of you hear about the La Guardia controversy, but they have a huge number of take-offs and landings, and the airport is squeezed between a narrow strip from the parkway to the water. There is a renovation project going on now. JFK has a lot more area, and a lot more ways to expand. It takes about the same amount of time to get to each airport for us, of course as long as there in no traffic. DH thinks he is coming into LaGuardia around 6 pm on Friday, so I am not looking forward to that.
When I got back, the garage door opener wasn't working, and luckily I had a house key, which I sometimes don't, but I had not shoveled the front walk. Also, because my car is new, we haven't worked out yet hooking the car up to the opener.
I am in now for the day I suppose. Will probably watch the Green Bay/Giants game, rooting for Green Bay. I will finish Underground RR, and will get a start on Witness. I am not sure how I came up on that all of a sudden, but got the e-mail this morning. When I checked yesterday, I expected it to be 8 weeks before I got it. I also finished the Karin Slaughter Will Trent book last night. I now have 2 more of those to go. I had discovered her when I read Pretty Girls, so then read Kept Woman when it came out, not realizing that it was book 8 of this series. The one I just finished was 5, and I took out 6. I read these really quickly, and usually read the Grisham books pretty quickly too. Not that anything takes me long.

Good afternoon. Sunny, clear and 45° right now. Supposed to be freezing again tonight, then warming to 80° on Thursday:)
Am nearing the end of Pharaoh by Wilbur Smith. It is full of battles and mystical creatures(which I do NOT enjoy), making this one of his less enjoyable reads. I am wondering if someone else is ghost writing this for him--it has so much exaggeration in t--unlike his other straightforward books. Time to find another prolific author. Suggestions? No romances or mysteries, pls.
Pinky--glad you are feeling better!
Robin--Glad your trip to JFK was safely made and you are in and warm today. Sorry about garage door troubles--seems like bad weather taxes everything! I landed at LaGuardia in the 70s and felt like I was in a 3rd world country way back then--cannot imagine what it is like now:). Enjoy your football and get some good sleep tonight! carolO

Carol, hope it doesn't freeze by you, but I wouldn't complain about your highs.
Karen, thinking about you as I see your Packers doing so well! I am very happy because, after being down 6-0, they are now humiliating the Giants. Actually, now they have humiliated the Giants, 38-13.

LOL that game was pathetic!!!! My husband is just glad its over so the pain will go away! Honestly, though, I'm not convinced that they even diserved to be there. I would have been just as happy to root for the Buffalo Bills or the NY Jets (at least they would have played like they wanted to be there) but no New York teams this year.
We're having frigid temps now but no new snow. I guess that's our silver lining!
Tomorrow I'm going to use my crockpot and slow-cook a turkey breast. Haven't decided on the sides yet though.
Take care!
