Good morning fellow crafters!
Ruth, those easy to make (10 or 20 minute) table runners do not need batting at all, and IMO batting would probably not work out as well with them. I would make them without. But what is great about them is that they work up so quickly, you do not need a lot of fabric, and you can really express yourself with your fabric selection. I also like that, if you choose, you can add a button or top stitching to dress the table runners up. Very definitely a great project. I well remember going into Joanns and having a lot of fun picking out fabrics for my mom....I took one home and made it for her....and then brought the rest of the fabric down to her house with me and made the others before her eyes. She loved it!
Not sure how I will resolve the crocheting issue. I started looking for directions last night for another afghan. Doubt I will get much of an opportunity today to continue on that.
Hope everyone has a good day. Ginny

Thank you, Ginny, both for starting us off for another week and also for the comments on the table runner. It sounds like you had a fantastic time looking at fabric and also showing everything to your mom. The completed runner which she must have loved, the fabric and watching you make more of the runners. I am visualizing how I could use this method to make other things like table toppers for instance for my small tables. Whenever I'm able to go to Hobby Lobby I know just the fabric I want to use for the table runner.I'm definitely going to stop wasting time and get to these projects.
CJ, thank you so much again for posting the site address. I've already bookmarked the one site and will do the same with the video which I haven't looked at yet.I need to go there too. I liked the other site so well that I forgot about the video.
We got quite a lot of snow. I don't know how many inches but I'd have to say about four. The trees are all covered and it looks like Christmas. It's cold too..It's 32 degrees right now. Rest of the week is to be warmer between 55 and 62 so all the snow will melt but it's pretty while it lasts

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - It probably took me 20-30 minutes to make the table runner, and it was my first one. I think the more you make the faster you get. I think you would enjoy picking out the two fabrics. My sister-in-law has them made for every season and she switches them out in her house - they look beautiful. I like that there is no batting or quilting needed and that you only need to pick 2 fabrics. I hope you make some. Wow, 4 inches of snow is a lot for so early in the year, hope you get the milder weather again soon. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying your day off. I also think it will be amazing if we don't loose this day as a holiday! I'm glad you've enjoyed those table runners too. It is an easy work to "decorate" the house, isn't it? Meg - Hope you had a nice time at your BBQ. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well and getting in some crafting. I haven't been in the mood to quilt today, so hopefully I will again later this week. If I can get this one project done and also that Solstice quilt top, I'll be happy, so I'm putting those 2 projects on my list to work on soon. I'm also still crocheting the small baby blanket that's a large granny square. I should be able to work on that tomorrow morning when I have an appointment to take my car for repairs. When I was out this weekend I put one of the windows down and now it won't go back up and stay up, so maybe the motor in the door needs repaired. I've had to have this done on other car windows too. So I figure I'll crochet while I sit and wait for it to be fixed. It's warm and humid here, can't wait for the cooler weather to come back. I've had a few days of lots of overeating, so today I'm dedicated to getting back on track with eating right. It scared me how quickly I could let one day become two, become three! I can't let food take me over again after all my hard work. Take care everyone!

CJ, it's a great idea to have several table runners for various holidays. I have some great Christmas fabric so I think I'll make some with that. I also have Easter fabric and some other holidays not sure which ones.I can certainly empathize with you on the eating becoming out of hand. One thing I think factors in is the fact that it's fall. I think our bodies instinctively act to make us feel hungrier at this time of year. I've been hungrier lately too and have been having a hard time controlling my eating and my scale has gone up a little over a pound. Being that I've never been able in the past to stay where I should be, like you, I'm definitely trying this time to stay at my present weight. I had a problem with one of my windows not going back up but it seems to have resolved itself thankfully. When I take my vehicles to have anything done that's what I do too is crochet. My car dealer has such a nice waiting area with all kinds of beverages and fresh baked muffins and cookies.
And I thought today was a federal holiday and there would be no mail delivery. Well dh got an email saying his order was delivered so I went down there and sure enough there was mail and the package.
And Ginny, this is all your fault...hahahaha. I got up this morning and left the sweater in the bedroom then dh was sleeping so instead of working on the sweater I picked up the baby blanket and crocheted for about 4 hours thinking how great the pattern was and how great that I was almost done. I added another skein of yarn and got most of it done when I decided to measure and see if I need to do more. Well it was only then that I found that WAYYYYYYYYYY back I had made a mistake on the edge and the blanket was getting wider. So the next half hour or more was spent pulling it out way back to where the mistake was...probably at least 20 inches of the 32 I had done. So I hit a roadblock too. I think that I'm back to the right place. I did see an extra "bump" right there on the side. I should have listened to what I told my dgks to do when knitting or crocheting and that is to check at least every few rows to make sure that everything is as it should be so that you don't get a whole bunch done and find that you have a mistake back in the beginning that's thrown everything off.
Meg, I hope you had a good time too at the bbq and that your new neighbors are nice people. Do you live anywhere near where those horrible fires are.

hi, I spent most of the day in my playpen. got 3 Christmas stocking ready for sit and sew tomorrow. my two buddies won't be there. one has her dd visiting from ca. the other couple are on their way to Michigan and then home to flordia. that will take awhile. she can only take driving about 400 miles a day.
my hip is doing great . yes I know cortisone will raise the bs. I had cortisone in my heels fo rspurs and knees before replacement surgery. I don't remember not sleeping back then , that has been so many years ago.
I have that table runner pattern . maybe what the gal did is just put batting in the middle. I was wondering why a quilter couldn't make the batting shorter for the part that comes to a point. then when folded it wouldn't be so thick. I am not smart enough to figure that one out.
time for hip exercises. phyl

Good evening!
CJ-glad that it took you a bit longer than 10 minutes to make a table runner....but they are fun, aren't they1. I added a pretty topstitch (embroidered by my machine) to dress up one of the table runners. What a fun project. And I cannot remember who, but yes, having them around to change based upon the season is a fun and easy idea. I did make one as a Christmas gift for a friend at church. Its good to hear that you got your crafting momentum back. What color are you making the granny square afghan?
Ruth, well it sure seems early for 4 inches of snow, especially cause I wimped out and put the air conditioner on today! I would guess that your snow will melt soon. So sorry that my absent minded crochet habits spread to you! (Stinks doesn't it!?). And your advice is exactly what I should have done, checked stitch count every few rows or so. Well, I am giving up on my pattern having found another this evening on red heart.com.
Phyl, we are all happy to hear that you are not uncomfortable so the shot is doing its job. Not too long you will have your procedure and be on the road to feeling fine. Who are the Christmas stockings for?
I ended up in Hobby lobby today with Dd#1- helping her find some pretty things to put on the wall of her new house. A long visit going through the store, but we found some nice artwork which she bought.
So I guess hanging out in the Hobby Lobby counts as crafting,as does finding a new pattern.
Work tomorrow, and I hope we are in for cooler temps soon. Good night....Hi to Meg Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad to hear you found a pattern that you like. Red Heart does have some nice patterns on their site and when you download them they usually give you a 15% off coupon for more yarn. I never use them because I sure don't need more yarn but I do think I need to get some Red Heart's "with Love" in nice colors because I have just a few colors which are mostly dark ones and I want some pretty ones for more sweaters and for the things i'm going to make for Christmas. It's a nice soft yarn and I like that for clothing and things that go close to hte neck such as cowls and infinity scarves. And it doesn't "pill" like some of their other yarns.would you mind sharing which pattern it is that you're going to make? I love looking at patterns and did that this morning too.And I'd say that with picking a pattern and going to HL you did do a bit of crafting I had never really looked at Hobby Lobby's fabric until I went there with a quilting friend. They have some very nice fabric. I once found a great birthday present for dh there. He's hard to buy for. I'm going back to the blanket now. But I may switch to the sweater in an hour or so. I want to get both of these things done by next week and sooner if possible

Ginny, thank you for starting us off for another week. Looks like you are having fun making the table runners, I am sure they will brighten up your table. I am glad your DD#1 found some decorative items at Hobby Lobby. They have some beautiful home decorations. I've only been to Hobby Lobby a few times and I am usually in a hurry so don't get to see the whole store. I had a good time at the BBQ last evening and met 3 new neighbors. They all seem really nice. Today, I went to lunch with some ladies from my church and had a good time. My social life has been picking up lately. I hope you find an afghan pattern that you like.
cj, I am glad to hear that your granny SQ afghan is about finished. Good idea to get your car window fixed before we get some wet weather. At least you can crochet while you work.
Phyl, I am glad the shot helped and that you are in less pain. I have never had a cortisone shot.
Ruth, I can't believe that you have had snow already. If you get snow now it will make it a long winter. The change in weather could cause a change in our eating habits. I always find this time of year from Oct to Jan a time when I really have to watch what I eat because there are so many social occasions to eat rich food which means watching that I don't gain weight. I have finished knitting Devin's booties but I still have to sew them which wont take very long.
I am going to relax and read this evening. Sleep well.

Good morning!
Ruth, when I print out the pattern I will be happy to share a link of it for you. It looks simple enough. The issue is that I will have to make it much larger as the afghan is only 24 x 24. I will keep looking .....but this will be my fall back just in case. Hope you got some work done on the blanket and the sweater.
Meg, nice to hear that your social life is picking up! After not feeling well and having so many doctors appointments I bet it was tough getting out to see people.
Gotta go.....DGS is here. Ginny

Well the snow is working on melting but there's still a bit here. At least it isn't like three years ago when we had nearly a foot on Sept11th. That year, after the large snow storm,it got warmer again and we had a nice fall. I don't think this year it's going to get really warm like it was last year. Last year in Nov we had a day where it got up to over80
I did work on my baby blanket last night but am nowhere near where I was before ripping it out. Ginny, yes some of the blanket patterns do make a very small blanket. And Red Heart doesn't usually give the multiple for making them a different size so I hope it will be one that is easy to figure out how to make it larger.
Meg, I'm glad you had a good time and the new neighbors turned out to be nice ones. And it does sound as though your social life has picked up and that you're enjoying it.
And thanks for planning on sending that link, Ginny. Since I'm going to be making a lot of baby blankets I don't want to get bored making the same one over and over and that 24 square sounds like a good size for a car seat blanket which is what I'm planning on making to donate.I'd probably actually make it more like 30 square. The one I'm working on somehow ended up being 34 inches wide so I'll make it 34 inches long too but that's a little big when you see it laid out. Nice size though for baby to hug when they get a little older.
I was looking at patterns again last night too. As if I need more...as I said baby blanket ones are needed but that's not what I was looking at.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - The crochet baby blanket I'm working on is a Soft Lilac color. I'm glad you found some things at Hobby Lobby. I haven't been to one of those, since none are located locally for me. Ruth - I get bored without several projects going at once too, so I understand that. Glad your snow is melting, weather is strange, isn't it? Meg - I'm glad you're getting out and doing some socializing, it's fun to visit with friends and have a good meal that you don't have to cook. Phyl - I'm glad your hip is feeling better. I think that batting could be put in the table runner in just the body part of it and leave the corners with just fabric. It could be done kind of as a quilt as you go maybe. Well, my window is fixed and I'm $400 poorer I did get some crocheting done, but not a lot. Still I enjoyed it. Take care everyone!

Yikes, that's a lot of money to have to spend to get something repaired. I just hope my window keeps working so I don't have to have it fixed. If it stays down again, which i probably won't be putting it down now till spring...If I can get it back up I think I'll just leave it up.That would make it hard if I ever went to a drive thru but I don't often do that anyway.Problem is that there are only two windows that open. It's designed that way but it does have a sun roof so I can open that for air.
I'm still having problems with my blanket and I don't know why. I've used this pattern before and I know hundreds of other people have too because it's a beginners pattern they use at Project Linus. I did email the designer to clarify one question I have. Haven't heard back yet. I may just change to a different one for now since I want to get this done as soon as possible

Hello everyone, I am having a lazy day and I intend on staying home. I have done s lot of running around lately. I did take Devin to school this morning. His Mom had him on a waiting list for a before & after school program and he starts next week so I wont have to take him to school anymore. I wasn't looking forward to having to get up and take him when it is cold and wet. Didn't do any crafting yesterday but hope to work on something today. Don't know what. I need to get started on DGDs afghan I have sort of being putting it off. I think once I get it started I will be fine.
cj, I am glad you got your window fixed but that was an expensive repair for a window. Cars are expensive to maintain. At least you got some crocheting done while you waited. Lilac is a nice color for a B/Blanket and I am sure yours will look very pretty.
Ruth, sorry you had to rip your b/blanket back so far. I need to start another one. I need to make one for a boy as the last few I have made are girl colors. It is nice to be able to change patterns and not always use the same pattern. It is getting colder here in the mornings and evenings so there will be more need for b/blankets. I have several ready to give away. I hope you get your b/blanket and sweater finished by next week.
Ginny, I make a lot of my b/blankets 32x32 though a little smaller is sometimes better .It depends on how it is going to be used. 24x24 would probably work for a new born.
Hi Phyl, Hope you are having a great pain free day.

Good morning!!
Meg the baby blanket pattern I am looking at looks to be 36 x 42.....I like that size because it can be used as they get bigger. Good for you taking a quiet day for yourself. I agree, once you begin working on the afghan for DGD you will most likely get the inspiration to finish it.
Ruth, were you able to figure out the issue with the blanket? (Don't you hate that, especially when its a pattern you have made before!).
CJ- well the good news about your window repair is that it keeps you from having a ton of extra cash for fabric.....or is that bad? Its all perspective. Yes, the repair sounds costly, but its important to have windows that work. Glad you got to crochet a bit.
Phyl- how are you feeling?
I did look a bit more at patterns last night.....so I am undecided what I will make for my grandchild to be. THe gender sono is at the end of the month, so I will do the insane thing and wait.....if its a girl I saw the most adorable pattern with a little flower crocheted on it.....so sweet.
Busy week for me, as I am training a new driver and not getting home until 11. DD went back to school....Ds is away at his training class. A quiet week for Dh and me. Ginny

Good morning all. It's a very windy day here. It was windy all of yesterday and all night too.I think the snow right here is all melted.
Ginny, that blanket sounds adorable. I would love to make one like that to donate. Someone would love to have a very pretty blanket for their baby girl.I might have to make one for my dggd. She's almost 3 months old now so getting to the age where it's "allowed" to use blankets I think. I do think or at least hope that these moms use the blankets to cover the baby while feeding him or her and also when they're in the car seats. It just makes me so uncomfortable to see a baby lying somewhere and not covered even if the so called experts advice against it.
I think I'm back on track with the blanket. I think what happened is that I wasn't paying attention and thought I was at the end of a row but really wasn't so I chained and turned and started the next rows from there. I got a lot done last night and HOPE to get it at least to the edging which isn't at all hard because you just do the same pattern as the body of the blanket along the sides and bottom. It's a pretty blanket and has the "crayon colors" in it. Little strands of red, blue, green, and yellow on white
Ginny, so I'm guessing that you work in the mornings taking children to school and then go back in the afternoon to take them home, is that right? Yes I would guess that training someone is time consuming because for one thing you are a very conscientious person and want to do the job right. Aside from teaching them to actually drive a bus and find their way on the route, do you have to teach them things like how to deal with misbehaving children too? I know there are a lot of emergency procedures you probably have to teach or do they get that part in a classroom setting with someone else? It's a scary job. I'd hate to be responsible for the lives of all those children.I think I mentioned once that a woman that worked with me at the hospital back in Ny drove a bus for special field trips. We worked nights so she worked all night and drove the bus during the day. I was always worried about that. She would take the children wherever they were going then sleep in the bus ;while they were doing whatever they went to do then wake up and drive them back to the school.Scary thought
WEll I think dh wants to go out to shop tomorrow. It's not like we need anything. There are a couple things we could use but we'll end up buying more than we should. So anyway I"m going to get some thing done in the house today and work on the blanket
Have a good day all.Meg it was great "seeing" you here last evening
