Good morning friends. It's been a while since I've started the thread and I risked duplicating it.
I am thinking of Karen E today and her DMIL's funeral. Such a sad time for a family.
It's still cold in sunny Florida but will warm to the 60s today.

Good morning,
Supposed to start warming up here today so looking forward to that but they also say freezing rain expected and not looking forward to that!
I started thinking about something this morning that probably sounds crazy but in dealing with the freezing cold of winter and the extreme heat of summer I just wonder how our ancestors dealt with having to go out to the outhouse. We so take our indoor plumbing for granted, don't we? Like I said crazy thing to be thinking about!
Nothing going on here today.

Sandy I can tell you....in my early childhood an outhouse was all we had before dad put in a bathroom.
In poor weather there was a chamber pot under the bed, but of course someone had to trek out the next morning to the outhouse with it.
And my bath was in the kitchen in a big galvanized wash tub. Or when I was very little, the farmhouse kitchen sink. "The good old days."

My grandmother died when I was in my 20s and she still had an outhouse. I spent a lot of weekends visiting her. I think about that sometimes and how she dealt with it all her life. She had 5 sons who all lived with modern conveniences. She had a 3 room house with the stove in the middle room. There was no electricity or water in her house.
It is 54 with a high of 72 here today and I am truly a wimp for complaining about this.

Greetings: Just saying "hi". Going to Zumba and then the trainer. Then today is memory training class and the ww maintenance meeting. Busy day for me. Seldom so many things in one day!
I did see Sharon's bright face so nice to know you're back. Have a good day all.

Good Morning All! Happy Monday!
I slept in this morning. Did not want to get out of bed. Just too cold. Jane, I am wimpy now, too! We are a bit colder than you 45 with temps getting to 64. I have snowbirds that are here from Saskatchewan, Canada. It is currently -11 with real feel temps of -28. I will stop complaining.
Grateful that I never had to deal with an outhouse. My first husband's family owned a summer cottage on Nettle Lake that had an outhouse. We did not go there often but I was in my teens and remember not liking the fact that there was no "real" bathroom. ha ha
Tonight I am going to dinner with DD. We will meet in Zephyrhills which is the halfway point for both of us. To avoid rush hour traffic I go a little early to shop at TJ Maxx.

Good morning. Getting warmer today. Already 30 which was the high yesterday. Going to be in 50s and 60s the rest of the week. Doing good with eating, but no exercising.
Gail the harem pants I am making now are flannel and fleece for the winter. She had the warm weather ones and that is why she decided to have me make these for the winter.
Busy now making ponytail hats for those with a bun or ponytail. Put it on facebook and on Varage Sale. Hopefully will made a few $$ since these are quick to make and uses left over yarn from bigger projects. Off to do some sewing this morning for an alteration customer and make another pair of harm pants this afternoon. No work until tomorrow.

Good morning Well my dear friends, it's 11 degrees here this morning so it's cold out. I did get out and got all my errands done. I am also pleased to say I lost 3 lbs on my first week back on plan. It wasn't easy as my sister made a cake and frosted it last night but I was determined to stick to my plan. I know I could have had a piece but I need to stay away as much as possible as one piece leads to another piece. I've got TOPS tonight so anxious to see what their scales will say.

Thanks for starting us off Sharon. You lucky FL folks. It has warmed up to the teens today. It will apparently go up to 50 this week. That is a heat wave for us! Your stories about what life was like for you would be interesting on a tape for your DGKs to listen to. Just think of all of the changes since then.
Sandy, that is not so crazy to think of our ancestors going to the outhouse in cold weather. I think of it every time I take Lola out. I would not want to be going outside with the frigid wind blowing, so I can’t blame her for not doing so. She just wants to get back home.
Jane, my mom’s parents had a real estate office in which they also lived. It did not have an outhouse, but it did have a wood-burning stove in the middle of the office that provided the heat.
I know you must be enjoying your activity Karen. You are one busy lady.
Have fun with your DD Ruth.
YAY Joanne, great loss!
I have been to exercise class, and walked there and back. I will have 6,000 steps by the time I finish lunch. Then I want to bring some trash bags full of donations to charity, pay some bills, and catch up with email and social media. I do want to see a movie, as there are so many good ones playing now. Maybe tonight.
Have a great day and stay warm. Brrrr.

Back from Zumba and trainer. I am looking forward to that memory class. I don't think they have had as many sign up as they expected since there was still space for me. DH said he wouldn't pay to go, so it didn't matter when I scheduled it. The March sessions are on Wednesdays. Ruth, recently you asked about success with Biotin. I've been taking it and am about out of this bottle. I'm not taking the brand nor the dosage the derm recommended so I was wondering if that was the reason I wasn't seeing much improvement in either hair or nails. then I read an article about vitamins and minerals that we take and whether it's worth taking extra. Biotin was one on the side of "it's not worth it" because we generally get enough Biotin in our meals. And the list of foods was there and I thought, yes, that's true. Of course, don't ask what those foods were .... However, I think I'm not going to buy any more when this bottle runs out and if I start up again, it'll be with what was recommended. Outhouses. XH's family had a cabin in the mountains that had an outhouse. We went there often for long weekends. It always made me appreciate the porcelain appliance. Then we camped at the lake nearby also regularly also with no plumbing. Ah, the good ole days. We've been cold for us. Can't say a word about it, but those who came down in December and January for a break wanted warmer temps. It's been in the 70's but it's been erratic. Today is gray and cool. Geri, I've seen the ponytail hats. They do make sense for ponytails. Wish you were closer. Then I might feel braver at starting this new afghan. Intarsia. Never done it before. Jane, I think it's what we all get used to having as far as temp. when it's colder or warmer than normal it impacts everything.\ Sandy, freezing rain. I remember that! Joanne, WOW!!! Nice work. I am so in awe of how you can avoid the baking that your sister does. I can manage small things especially if we put them behind cabinet doors, but your ability to handle that I quite inspiring. Great results! Keep up the good work! Gail, hey nice to walk to and from exercise. Just be careful walking. And doesn't exercise feel wonderful and let your mind be so happy! Well, eating my tuna fish. I'm still holding the line on my points from that Saturday morning breakfast. I haven't eaten my weekly points in ages. I guess I could think about using fit points. Decisions, decisions!

Karen I take 5000 mg of biotin daily and do notice my hair and nails grow fast. I actually started taking to keep blood sugar level. Joanne I wonder from time who eats your DSIS's goods? Does she have a sweet tooth too? It's good you avoided it. Evenings are hard for that. Geri I see your ponytail hat on FB. So cute. Gail have you found a group for grieving yet? I'm hoping you'll find just the right one. Thinking of Ann today doing the colonoscopy prep. Good thing she doesn't have an outhouse. sorry, couldn't resist. Chicken leg quarters were on sale and BOGO. I have 4 in the slow cooker for dinner. I'll have plenty of leftover chicken for other dishes. I need to put bread in the freezer. No one is eating much. I usually have one piece at breakfast. Today I had the whole grain with mashed avocado on top and then an egg. With a tangerine, it was a perfect breakfast.

Sharon, My hair and my nails grow very fast. I take 10,000 mcg. I started taking it to thicken my hair and my nails but have not noticed an improvement there. On the positive side, my hair is not falling out as much and I don't have to clean my brush as often. Have you notice your hair and nails getting thicker due to taking biotin?

Sharon, you always make me laugh. I cannot imagine having to do the that prep without indoor plumbing.
I stopped off at the library after putting my Chicken Tikki Masala in my slow cooker. I rented FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS. I am one of those individuals who, like Jenkins, thought I had a good singing voice when I could not carry a tune. I did not get to adulthood with that misconception though.
Almost 8000 steps and 9 flights of stairs. I think I'll walk some flights later.
Time to get my dinner. I hope it turned out well. It looks NOTHING like in the WW weekly, but it smells good. We shall see.
Have a great evening friends.

An alternative for wool dryer balls...my DMIL did this before she moved into the Senior Apts where she lives now. She had 2 balls of tightly wadded aluminum foil about the size of a ping pong ball (no larger) plus an absorbant terry hand towel in her clothes dryer. I've been doing the same thing for a couple of weeks now and I'm pleased with the results. It does make a bit of clanking with the foil balls in the dryer though...similar to the noise of a zipper.
It's been very cold here, too, but we dodged the snow with just 1-1/2 inches the first day and then another 1 inch on Saturday. But we've been keeping the wood burning stove going round the clock.
I got an electric pressure cooker for Christmas this year and tried using it for the first time today. I made Thai Chicken Thighs and they came out soooooo good. I need to put the recipe through the WW recipe builder to find out what the SmartPoints are. I pulled a bunch of recipes off the internet this weekend and am looking forward to trying more new things.
