This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Anngie, I know how your DH felt last night watching the Giants. If it were the Jets, I would have felt the same way. I would guess where you are there are Bills fans, and I would imagine even some Patriots fans (who I do not want to win). At least over the weekend the winners were teams that I can see myself watching as the weeks go by. Not so sure though that I want to watch Pete Carroll coaching Seattle in another play-off game. He coached the Jets when my kids were little.
I am also happy there is going to be no more snow or rain until the weather warms and melts the snow. I didn't ask my DS to come over to help with the rest of the snow. I may go out and do it little by little. I am working from home today, have to go in tomorrow morning because we have a training session webinar that I prefer to do in the office. It's supposed to warm into the 40's tomorrow, then into the 50's. Funny thing, I wanted to check what the weather was like in Orlando because that was where DH was going. Once you search for a city, it comes up. I opened the weather page, and it said 57. Then I realized that is what it is now in Orlando!
I read a good amount of The Whistler yesterday, but not as much as I would have thought considering that I was basically home doing nothing. I did cook myself a nice dinner though. I had something left from last week's Blue Apron order, although not a very interesting one, it wasn't bad points-wise. I used a little less oil, although it wouldn't have been bad if I used what they said, and also swapped out FF greek yogurt I had for the full fat for the sauce, but I used so little of that anyway. I put half away for another meal. I also have something from the week before, cod with freekeh, cooked in parchment. I am going to make that tonight, so that tomorrow when I am out at the office I can just come home and heat something up. I am never one to cook for myself when I am home alone, so this is something different for me. Cod is very low in points, so I might eat both pieces of fish if I am hungry, but I think I have another package still in the freezer for another day.
I know we always have fewer people posting here on the weekend, so look to see everyone starting today.

It is much warmer today. I think it is 57 now and tomorrow and Wednesday, it should be in the low 70s. This coming weekend it is supposed to be cooler with rain, but no sleet or snow.
Anngie, The Thin Man was written by Dashiell Hammett who also wrote The Maltese Falcon. It was made into a movie in the 30s with William Powell and Myrna Loy as the main characters. It was a hugely popular movie and there were 4 or 5 sequels. I read it was the first movie sequel. Turner Classic Movies shows them. In fact, the original Thin Man in on tonight. I love them. Even though they are mysteries, they have humor.
Hope everyone is doing well.

I didn't do much over the weekend. We went to Costco on Saturday and that was enough of being out in the cold for me! Sunday groceries and watched the game. Netflix binging has become a bit of a problem - easily distracted from my plans (like vacuuming) by "just one more episode" that dh wants to watch. Still waiting for a good book to pop up.
Tonight dd's rescheduled band concert so no dinner. She has to be there at 6:00 and since they are forecasting snow starting around 5:30 she can't take her car (no snow tires and too much rust to be out on salted streets) so I'll take her and help set up for snacks after the concert. DH will show up later for the concert - that way he avoids sitting on those terribly uncomfortable auditorium seats any longer than he has to.

Well, it's freezing out! It's in the teens. This morning I went to a couple of stores, but that was it. Tonight the wind is supposed to start so I can't imagine what tomorrow will be like. I noticed that Walmart is starting to stock spring gardening items - now there's a good sign! lol
Carol2, that book looks good as it's in an era I enjoy. I've never been much for mysteries but I'm actually reading one now. I've mentioned it, it's the second of the Maisie Dobbs mysteries. Centers around WWI London. It's light reading, though - with a twist. She's not your average detective. Robin, believe it or not there aren't many Bills fans here. A few Patriots though, which I also hope get beat soon! I on the other hand am a loyal New Yorker and would just love to see any NY team make it - maybe next year! Marsha, I'm with you - stay home where it's warm!!!!

Hi Friends!!! Another crazy day around here. Busy in the office this morning from the get go and then chiropractor this afternoon, stopped at a little boutique along the way and picked up a cute outfit. Had a nice drive and listened to The Woman in Cabin 10. Yes I finally came back up for it and enjoying it very much. I am letting Big Stone Gap go for now. And loving Ordinary Grace---not sure if I will get it finished before Wed. night's bookclub or not but I shall try. I am reading that on my Nook. Feeling good to read again as I have been in a slump.
Robin----your cod dinner sounds delish.
Carol2---your temps sound wonderful, we are going to AZ next week for a week and I can hardly wait for temps like that and I hope warmer.
Marsha-----Enjoy DD's concert.
Carol2----your remark about it freezing ---its in the teens, laughing because we made it in the upper teens today and actually 20 degrees for a short time and it is wonderful.

I had a few errands I could have done today, but because of the cold, and the fact that it is supposed to warm up by Wednesday, I decided to wait.
Marsha, hope you enjoy the concert. The good old days, I remember the metal folding chairs they used to use, but in our high school there is an auditorium, and the seats are the older movie theater kind, so not bad at all.
Anngie, when I see those spring things I figure I don't have to buy any more winter clothes, no matter how big a bargain, I can manage with what I have. I am sure you will get the warmer weather too. I will look into those Masie Dobbs, but I have plenty others on my list and although I like historical fiction, sometimes on that type I like when it is more current.
Carol, I will look at that Dashiell Hammett series. Looks like Red Harvest is the first, and it's a short book.
I did very little reading today. Between some work stuff, including a waste of time conference call, a little cleaning/straightening, and I am not quite sure what else, I read about a chapter of The Witness. I have to stop looking at Facebook so much!
I won't read that much tonight either seeing as I will be watching my guilty pleasure, The Bachelor. There was one other thing I did today, watched an episode of Mozart in the Jungle. Need to catch up on that.
I am glad we can edit these, because I see Pinky posted while I was. I obviously already talked about my dinner, which I have just started on, so cut out another explanation of it.

Pinky, I like the Big Stone Gap series when I read them, but have found things lately that I enjoy much more. I did like The Woman in Cabin 10. Glad you had time to read it. I have not read Ordinary Grace. One of the few on the book club lists that are around that I have not read. What do you think of it?

Hi Robin, Carol, Pinky, Anngie and Marsha. I am sorry I have not posted for a few days. I haven't had a chance to go back and read the posts I missed. Robin it is nice you can work from home. It is supposed to warm up in the 40's here tomorrow. Hopefully some of the snow will melt. Pinky I think it is great that you do some aidio books. That is something I have never tried. Anngie I love to see some gardening things in the store. It makes me feel better about the cold abd snow. Marsha I hope you enjoyed the concert. Carol I am sure you are enjoying the warmer temps. I hope everyone has a good evening. Take care.

Robin----I am 1/3 of the way into it and really like it so far. I will give you the run down on what the others thought after Wed. evening.
