Most of us have our own list of things we’d like to change to make our lives better. You know, the ever popular, stop procrastinating! And learn something new! And get organized! And we all know about lose weight!
The purpose of this thread is to pick a habit each week or month and identify the steps we need to take to make the change. And then as we move on to make other changes, to continue the positive changes in our lives.
Make SMART goals. S. - Specific M. – Measurable A. – Achievable R. – Realistic T. – Time based. (Tell us so you commit yourself. Write it down so you know what it is.) There’s a whole lot of information out there about goal-setting. Work with what’s right for you.
Be sure to make a list for yourself so you know what you've accomplished!
And whoever gets here first starts us off!
Join in and happy self-improvement!

Greetings: I took the "new thread" sentence out of our beginning. We're not new any more. I just wanted to open it before going to Zumba and haven't read all the postings from yesterday.
Zumba. My cardio and then the trainer. I'm definitely on my way out of training. I'll just have to figure how many sessions I have and when to cancel. Then I have 30 days to get all the remaining sessions in.
Gramma Ruth, interested in that third piece of the exercise pie. You might have mentioned it. Will read later. Today is memory training class. so I'll need to get ready for that. And WW maintenance meeting. Whew! such a busy day for this retiree!

I think the third part of exercise is resistance.
Today, after a day of rest (or should I call it sloth), I am up and at 'em. I walked to and from aerobics despite areas of the walk that still have snow on them and carried my dog outside to do her business (which she didn't). It is very cold outside and she was shivering despite her sweater.
I have 5200 steps so far. I think I will do some walking at the mall later. I am determined to gt back to my old routine.
Breakfast calling. Have a good day everyone.

Hi Everyone! Happy Monday!
Wow, where is this day going? I slept in a bit today. I made a WW crustless pumpkin pie. Mike made a cake. I made the pie to stay away from his cake. He loves cake. I could take it or leave it, so I think I am good.
Gail, That is awesome that you walked to and from your aerobics class in the cold. You ROCK!!!!! Mall walking sounds like a great idea. You already have a great start to your step goal!
Later I am going to dinner with DD. I plan to leave a little early and do some shopping. Hopefully walking around TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby will give me some steps.
Karen, How did you make your wool dryer balls? They sound interesting. Mike is allergic to wool. Will using them have any affect on his allergy?
I started the 30 day arms challenge again yesterday. I am not getting my exercise with this little cold snap. Might do a YouTube cardio video today.

Back from exercise and not quite time to go to memory class!
Arm challenge. Great idea, Ruth! Everyone in for the arm challenge? It's one of those exercise series that shows you just how effective repetitive weight lifting can be. I'm ready. My arms are better than they were a year ago, but not as good as they are going to be.
Gramma Ruth, yes, even a day off. Ready, set .... go! And stretching. Of course. If I'd just given some thought to it. I get my stretching with yoga. So, I do Zumba 2 days a week. Lift weights 3 days a week and do yoga 3 days a week. If you're counting .... On a Zumba day I also do weights. I had reached WW goal in 2001 and then gradually put some back on. A couple of years ago I started taking it back off and decided I needed to really get focused on exercise. The gym near me has a class at 8:30 every morning. So, I go. then I also go to a studio yoga class on Thursday. This whole routine took time to put together but I've lost weight and am in better condition that I've been for years. I am an exercise advocate.
Gail, yes, there is just something about a routine. That's what's so fascinating to me. Reading that Charles Duhigg book on Habits and then articles. The things that we do without much thought are so powerful in our lives. It takes time to get there and when we can't do it ... I think it hurts our brains!
Ruth, if you google wool dryer balls you'll get lots of sites. I used one skein for each ball. About 3.5 oz of wool. I used 3 balls in each load. I read that some people use up to 6. As to the question about M's allergy -- a good question but I don't know the answer. I will say it's worth checking out. It actually takes less time to dry clothes and they are soft. Sheets that I hated are actually feeling pretty good now.
Gramma Ruth, I have a granddaughter in Casper. After we move I plan to drive up and see her. It's a short sad story but I'm just getting to know her in the past couple of years. I also have a good friend who just retired. She used to work for me when we both were in Sheridan She lives in Bar Nunn and I've never seen her because we've always gone through when she's been at work. I hope to see her, too.
I arrived in Wyoming in 1949 .. I was born in Rock Springs. Family moved to Sheridan when I was 3. Spent over a year in CA and IL, otherwise just WY. Then moved to CO in 2000 and to AZ 2001. Now it's back to CO.

Karen, we you sure do know what the weather is like in Wyoming then. Sheridan is colder than here and I've heard that in the Big Horns they've been know to have snow in the summer. A friend went camping there one year over the 4th of July and she said it snowed.
My goodness you ladies sure do a LOT of exercise. This thread is just what i need to get motivated. I haven't done the arm exercise yet today because I've been getting exercise in different ways...mostly cooking and cleaning. Dh loves to have leftovers available so he likes for us to make foods in advance that he can just heat up when he gets hungry and able to eat. He has a lot of gi issues and can't eat at "normal" meal times.I have everything on cooking and baking now and everything cleaned up so now I'm going to go and get the weights to do the first day of arm challenge and then I'm going to do my healthrider for the legs and it also helps the arms.
I'm going to look up those dryer balls for sure. It's exactly what I need! Then I'll have to get some wool because I don't have any 100% wool unless maybe I have one ball of it and that would only be enough for one dryer ball I'm sure.
I know there's other things I want to say but I'd better go get that exercise in before I put it off too long.
Karen, whatever the story I'm sure it's just a unbelievably happy thing to be able to spend time with your dgd now.

I did not go to the mall as I am trying out an Indian dish (my favorite flavors) from a WW Weekly: Chicken Tikki Masala. It took a lot of chopping time. It smells great, but doesn't look at all like in the weekly. We shall see.
I will wait until next month to do the arm challenge. I like doing them on the days of the month (1st day of a challenge on the 1st of Feb, 2d day Feb 2, etc.)
Despite not going to the mall, I have almost 8,000 steps and 9 fights of stairs, which feels good. I think I'll walk my stairs to make it to 10 flights and get some more steps in.
My exercise regimen (when I can make all classes):
M,W: all-over exercise: cardio, weights, stretching, resistance T,Th: yoga, including balance and meditation
Every other Thursday evenings and Friday evenings I work standing up. On Saturday mornings I work sitting down, but do a lot of set-up. Extra steps is what I am trying to fit in.
I want to go to bed early tonight so I have enough time to walk Lola and walk to yoga tomorrow.
Have a good evening all. Hearing what everyone is doing is so motivating!

Gail that sounds like an excellent way to keep track of what day your on in a challenge. I did do he first day today and will keep up with it. I tend to not want to start things too slow and it looks to me that it said you were to do only 15 of the "rows". I did 15, stopped for a minute, then did 15 more. my goal is that by spring I will have done this arm challenge several times and have also added more kinds of exercise. I'll have to work on the specifics Today my dh asked if my legs are getting too thin. My legs are my biggest problem area so it was good having him ask that but no, they aren't getting too thin.
