Happy Monday Fellow crafters!
I always feel a little bit guilty leaving an old thread behind... Ruth and Meg posted late last night both with great advice about yarn.
Gotta get in the shower and ready for work. BBL Ginny

Good morning Ginny, CJ, Meg, and Phyl. Thanks for getting us started on yet another week. I didn't do any crafting yesterday at all except for looking at the next pattern I'm planning on making. I read another Christian mystery book along withdoing a couple other usual things that fill our days. Looks like another nice day here. A little cool but wind has calmed down and it's nice and sunny.
I see only 6 have read so far today...Come on in and join us, although I think some read just because they enjoy reading about what other people are doing and may not actually be interested in any kind of crafting. There are lonely people out there that just need to fill their lives and time.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm sure you've enjoyed celebrating those family birthdays, and I'm glad you were able to get to your knitting group. Ruth - Hope you have found a new pattern to work on and that you are enjoying reading. One of my great pleasures in life is reading. Ginny - I think the Christmas Tree skirts sounds like a nice idea, I'm sure it would be easier this time around. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well and getting in some crafting. I did get my table cleared off in my sewing room and it feels good to have that organized. Maybe I can get back to working on that quilt top I have half done. I went to JoAnn's today and bought a skein of Bernat Softee Baby Yarn in White to use with the Lilac yarn in the crochet baby blanket I've been working on. I definitely want to put a white ruffled edge on this blanket, but I'm deciding if I want to put several rows of white as a stripe in it. I'm almost finished with the first skein of lilac yarn and thought I could put some white in next and then finish with the other skein of lilac yarn and add the white ruffle at the end. Take care everyone!

CJ, I know it has to feel good to have your table cleared off and ready to use. I do think a nice white stripe would be great in the baby blanket. Colorblocks seem to be the "thing" now so you'd have blocks of lilac and block of white. and the ruffled edging sounds very nice also.
I started the second cowl today but then had to take it out back to the chain to make the chain smaller. It was going to end up being too large. I was also going to alter the pattern. The made in edging is with what she called the beading stitch and I was thinking of making the "beads" larger but decided against it. They look more prominent than I thought they were going to look. I was looking online for Red Heart metallic with love yarn in white but it's pick up only and it says they're out of stock at my store. I thought this cowl would look great in a white metallic and Red Heart Love is nice and soft so I'll have to wait or just use something else.

Good Morning!! Actually
Seems quiet here today and yesterday. I had hoped to stop back in but never had the chance to.
CJ- that must feel awesome having your main crafting table all cleared off. Did working on that inspire you at all? Actually you did get your inspiration, having purchased more yarn. I totally agree with Ruth, having color blocks- just adding in a second color would be lovely. Lilac is a popular color for baby items now, and heck, its just a pretty color! Who cares if it is popular! Glad that Joanns had another skein of that color for you.
Ruth, indeed that cowl would be a knockout in a metallic...but I am sure you will work something up that is beautiful anyway. Are these Christmas gifts you are working on?
Well, I did not craft at all yesterday- but as soon as I figure out my dinner I am checking out the fabrics for the tree skirt and seeing if I really like them or not. Honestly I am wondering if its too much work- not knowing exactly what Dd's taste is. CJ is right, this tree skirt will go more quickly as I have done one before.. Honestly when I made the one for home I finished it on Christmas break- and left the tree up another few weeks so I could enjoy the tree skirt. (Yes I am that silly).
Hope Phyl's computer is fixed soon. Hi Meg- hope all is well with you Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Hope you can work things out with the cowl. Ginny - Hope you were able to pick out some fabrics for the tree skirt. Thanks for the thoughts on the colors for the afghan. I think I am going to add some rows of white to mix in with the second skein of lilac yarn and then I'll put either a white or lilac edging on it. I was looking at pictures on the Internet and saw a few done like that. Clearing off my table did make me want to get back to my quilting, but I haven't year. It's a nice sunny day here after rain last night and then later this week we're supposed to get cooler weather. Hope your weather is good. Take care everyone!

Hello to all...CJ, Ginny, Meg, and Phyl. I do hope you're all having a good day.
Ginny, I hope you like the fabrics. I really don't like when I look at my stash and find some that I don't like and wonder why I bought them. I recently gave a bunch of fabric like that to GW. And silly? No, I don't think so. I would have left the tree up in order to enjoy that tree skirt also.
Yes the cowls are Christmas gifts. One for each of the grandaughters that live here in town, the oldest grandson's girlfriend, and dd.I'm going to make the guys a neck warmer too maybe or maybe just fingerless gloves. My grandaughter Emily emailed me the other day. She's 13 and one of the ones I taught to crochet back when she was 5 or 6. She said she was going to make herself a pair of fingerless gloves and wanted to know what stitch she should use...She's my ds' daughter so lives in Ind.For Christmas I send them money for the family and my ds and ddil are great at figuring out things. I remember telling you all about what they used the portions of the money for for each child last year so won't repeat that.Still, when I get these Christmas things done I'm going to make a bunch of fingerless and mittens and send there.
Today I might get busy and wrap and pack the bday presents and new baby blanket in preparation to mail when we go out although now dh mentioned that the big windows downstairs need some work so we might do that today
Ginny deciding on what to make for dinner is always a challenge for me. As I'm sure I mentioned before, if it was only me...tv dinners would be it.Some of the breakfast bowls they sell now frozen look good. I'd have those for dinner too

Good evening!
I hate figuring out what to make for dinner- ended up making a lot of food thinking that Ds would eat and he did not join us. Grrrr........
Ruth, hope you got your gifts wrapped- you make so much for your family- they are so blessed to have you! That's the ultimate complement that DGD wants to know how to make her own fingerless gloves. How very cool is that?
CJ- I love your plans for the afghan and it sounds stunning. Hope that the cooler weather inspires you to quilt....
Well, I checked out the fabrics I have and will need to purchase a backing fabric for the tree skirt. So will window shop on HL's web site and Joanns, see who has something closer to what I like.. So based upon my convoluted rules about crafting, I did get some crafting done today.
Hi to Meg and Phyl Ginny

My message above, now that I've gone back and read it, seems garbled to me. Anyway, I make things for the dgc in Indiana but not for Christmas presents. I make the ones here things for Christmas instead of giving money because...well I think it's best.
Ginny, your rules that define crafting are great ones and I'd say that window shopping online for fabric definitely counts.
Didn't get the wrapping and packing done because dh decided to stain a few boards before the wind comes up tomorrow so I decided to help him and we ended up painting some other things that needed it also. Then I went to the mailbox and we got a bunch of stuff we ordered online so opened all that. One company (in China) sent a tshirt by mistake. They sent the things that dh ordered but then put in a tshirt too.He will let them know but they always say not to return because it costs so much so I'll donate that too.
I know it must sound like it's me when I find so many mistakes in patterns and on the sweater it was me, but today I found that the designer of this cowl pattern must have made a typo. She Calls for you to do two -double crochet into a stitch then skip two and do 2 double ccrochets across row. Well having two dc's into one stitch adds a stich so you would have to skip one. Skipping two means you're subtracting a second stitch so you have to chain to add one or you're going to be decreasing.I actually did it as she said thinking I must be thinking wrong but no, I was right. So hopefully now I can get a bit of it done this evening and get to the next one. Besides the six cowls and the men's gifts I still have five more baby balls and a teddy bear rattle to make

Good afternoon!
Ruth you are incredible with how you figure out patterns and are able to find the flaws. All your logic made a ton of sense, and yes its obvious that without your changes the pattern will not turn out well.
Sounds like you are nice and organized for your Christmas gifts! I am impressed.
Did not get a chance to "shop" last night. Hope to do that later Ginny

Thank you Ginny but I have to say that most people who have crocheted for anytime would have caught that but I do love compliments so keep them coming I won't have much time to craft today as I need to straighten out the house and dust around the modem because the cable guy is coming to fix whatever it is that is interfering with our signal. Internet keeps shutting down and the person on the phone did some kind of test and said it showed loss of signal that can only be fixed by a tech coming to the house. Dh has been helping me and got a lot done already. I know he's not here to inspect my house but I like it to be in order. I need to clean my "office" aka the living room couch because it gathers yarn and other crocheting supplies as well as finished and unfinished projects and, of course, my Bible and study materials.Had to stop in though... I have priorities after all See you all later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today Ginny and Ruth - Sounds like you are busy with crafting and planning fun projects. Ruth - Hope you can get things worked out with your Internet, that has to be frustrating. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both getting in some crafting. I haven't been doing any crafting, just not in the mood. I went out earlier this week and did some shopping and need to go out another day too. Then I have a planned lunch for Saturday. The weather has been very nice, and I'm enjoying the Fall days. Take care everyone!

Good evening! Well Ruth, even cleaning up the crafting area counts....and I hope that your internet issues are resolved easily. I have been crocheting for awhile - actually 30 years on and off, but never dissected a pattern like that before. Glad you can do that- like I said I get the logic and it makes sense what you are doing. I am also happy to throw a compliment your way anytime. CJ- glad to hear that you are enjoying the fall weather and have activities planned. Gotta make up for the time we were all locked in our homes with heat and humidity. Enjoy!! THink I am going to read tonight. Its just been a busy day- I worked over 8 hours and just want to relax. My book is just the way to do that. Hi to Meg and Phyl. Have a great night. Ginny

Hi Ruth, Ginny, cj & Phyl.
I have been busy trying to get odds and ends taken care of. I have been working on my afghan quite a bit and I finished the slipper boots for my Russian friend at knit Wits. This morning I spent a long time on the computer looking at patterns. I did printout one for a b/blanket. I have been reading a lot.
The weather is great at the moment . Cool mornings and evenings. Devin went to San Francisco yesterday on a field trip and he had a great time. The temp there was higher than it was here. It is usually the other way around.
I have been reading your posts. Devin is waiting for the computer so I had better get off.

Thank you, Ginny. Good to see you Meg.
Ginny, I hope you do get to just relax and read.
Meg, sounds like you've gotten a lot of things accomplished in the last couple days
It's supposed to be very cold here tomorrow.I'm not looking forward to that.
CJ, you'll get back into the crafting mode soon so right now enjoy what you're doing.
I got a lot done today and just mixed up some peanut butter cookies which I'll bake when dh is ready to eat some. He's taking a nap right now. He's tired after helping me with all the housework. Now I think I'll crochet the rest of the evening right after I dust the area where the modem is. So far I've cleaned the upstairs where the living room, kitchen, dining room, etc are and the modem is downstairs so will do that soon and be done.
