Wow, seems hard to believe that this week begins November......
Starting us off for a new week.
Ruth, glad you found a new cowl pattern, which sounds really pretty. I was looking at a cowl pattern last night, myself- just dreaming that I had the time to make it however.
Gotta get ready for work. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - hope the puffed stitch worked out on your cowl. I have a set of stainless steel flatware, in a beautiful wood box, that my mother bought for me to go in my Hope Chest. Of course, I ended up never getting married, and my mother died when I was young, so I can't bring myself to use that flatware. It's been in that box for over 40 years! Phyl - Sounds like you made out well at the quilt show. Hope you enjoy working on the Blocks of the Month for your Guild. I remember when I was in a Guild participating in those, it was fun. Hope you enjoy your lunch too. Ginny - It is fun to watch the holiday movies. I survived the wind and rain and today it is sunny and windy here. Hope you didn't get bad weather. Meg - Hope you are doing well and busy with crafting and listening to your books. I'm just relaxing today. I finished off the last in a series of 4 books last night so I've started a new book today. I also have several magazines I really need to catch up with reading, so hopefully I'll get to them. I need to go outside now and take the cover off my car that has the leak in the trunk. It was pretty much blown off this morning, but I think it stayed on through most of the rain. I'm going to check the trunk to make sure. Take care everyone!

Happy new week to all. Good to see three others here.
Ginny, this cowl is one that you can pick up anytime and know where you are so it's one that would fit into the minute here and there time. I made it wider than the pattern calls for but I made it wider than I should have. Not that it's not a nice width but the width is, of course, using the yarn I could be using for more length so we'll see how it works and I may just take it all out and start over. Pattern calls for 5.5 inches wide and I think 8 would be prefect but I have 11
It's a cold day here today. It did snow but most of that is gone. It doesn't seem warm enough that it would melt so must have blown away but no wind now.
Gotta finish wrapping and packing today and still have the ties to do on the sweater which will take only five minutes tops. I also need to write some letters and cards and do a little advance cooking. I don't know how I ever found time to work back when I was working.
CJ, mine is in a wooden box also but it was my mother's.Some people would greatly envy you for being single. Some marraiges are filled with despair, abuse and many other problems. Of course there are good ones too but even those usually have things that have to be worked on and prayed about.

Very sage advice on marriage Ruth.
CJ- nice to catch up on your reading- and with this windy weather its a perfect time to do so! I hope that the car is ok and that the cover kept the rain out. It was awfully windy here.
Phyl- sounds like you have a great day planned. Hope it went well for you and that you get a block to work on that you like.
Today was long. Hope that maybe later on I can get some machine time in.
Hi to Meg, Ginny

Thank you Ginny. I too, hope that you can get in some sewing time
I do have enough for this cowl. It will end up the length specified in the pattern and will use all the yarn except maybe a small piece. There was no label on the yarn. I don't know what happens to my yarn labels but I have a lot of yarn from which the labels fell off so I don't know how much is on them or the company that made it. I like this color but this is, again, one that I don't know company name or color name. I should easily finish this cowl today then decide on what one I want to make next and what yarn to use. Even though I have a room full of yarn I never seem to have what I want to use at a particular time.
Now I'm going to take a break from crocheting and get my work done

well I was a little bit wrong about the blocks. they give you a choice of two patterns with different blocks. so I picked the one that has only 8 blocks. it will be a small quilt. the other one was a lot of details one 12 inch block has 12 small blocks in it.
with hip surgery In january I do not know how long it will be before I can sit and sew again. so hopefully I can get the blocks in dec.
then m.j. and I went to joann's and then she stopped at a printers. came home and went to playpen.nowI will sit and knit
I see sloan has another bom starting nov.22. probably a christmas one..
for my blocks I may make them out it is In the house somewhere. phyl

Ginny. thank you for starting another week. I seem to be keeping busy lately and have not had a lot of computer time. Today I went to my monthly meeting with my DOK chapter at church I picked Devin up on the way home and that took up most of my afternoon. I have been making good head way with my afghan. I keep thinking about other things I would like to make but I must not get side tracked.
Ruth, I am glad you are able to work on your cowl and hopefully you will have it finished soon. Who are you making it for?
Phyl, from what I have noticed people recover quite quickly from hip surgery, faster than from knee replacement. I hope you find good quilt squares to share with your quilting group.
cj, I have also been reading a lot and just finished a 4 book series by Debbie Macomber. I hadn't read any of her books for a long time. I also have been listening to quite a few audio books. What sort of books do you like to read and do you have favorite author?
I will work some more on my afghan before I go to bed. Crafting before bed helps to relax me.
I wish you all a good night.

Meg, I'm glad to see you and I'm glad the Russian lady loved the slippers. I'm making six cowls for Christmas gifts...one for dd, four for grandaughters and one for dgs' fiancee. It's great that you get some crafting done and also are able to listen to your books. I love to read too but my online reading app somehow doesn't accept my library card number and password all of a sudden. I had three really good books on hold and now can't access them.Just as well I guess since I need to get more crocheting done and finish dh's knitted scarf. I did finish the cowls tonight so that's three down, three to go. I had to force myself to finish it because finishing is not my strong suit. Lately though I've been making myself weave in ends and whatever needs to be done instead of putting it off.
Never did get to the rest of the wrapping today so will finish that tomorrow and pack it all up to go when we go shopping on Wed.Didn't get the ties on the sweater either...Example of how I hat finishing things. I didn't make myself do the ties so now I still have them to do.
Phyl sounds like you had another nice day. Making that quilt will be nice.
CJ and Ginny, I hope you both get a good rest tonight. Since it's now 1am guess I'll toddle off to bed myself. I started the 4th cowl and it's kind of a waffle stitch with post stitches and is kind of fun.
See you all tomorrow

Good morning all. It's still morning here...barely
I hope you're all having a good day. I'm going to work on my newest cowl pattern in a color my youngest dgd that lives here in town likes.I don't know if I'll have extra yarn but if I do I'll make her a pair of fingerless gloves in this color. Of course it's Red Heart with Love yarn so I could buy more at Walmart if I wanted to. We're going there tomorrow and I intend to buy some more yarn while there anyway in some colors I like. I do want more of the metallic white but online it says they're out of stock in my local store so we'll see. I have one skein of it but would like to have several on hand. I have a metallic black but in my old age I can't see with black or navy blue well at all. It works once I get the first row done but that first row is hard.
Well gonna go get started on my chores. See you all later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I did some baking this morning - a Raisin Tea Loaf. It has a quick bread type texture and using tea soaked raisins. There is no added fat in the recipe so that was nice. It's a little dry, but the raisins help with moisture. I probably could have added more than I did. I saved some for tomorrow and then froze the rest. I really love to bake, so I'm happy I'm able to fit it in from time to time. Meg - I like Romances mostly when I read. I have several authors that I like and I also read some Inspirational Romances from Harlequin. I've recently been reading some historical romance books. I'm glad to hear you are making progress on your afghan. Ruth - Sounds like you're making lots of progress on those cowls. Hope the weather isn't too cold for you. I've had a lot of people tell me I should be happy I never married and I've definitely seen some marriages that I wouldn't have wanted to have. There's good in bad in everything Ginny - The rain didn't get into my car, so I was happy about that. We're not supposed to get any rain for several days, so I took the cover off for now. Hope you find some time for some crafting. Phyl - I'm glad you were able to pick a BOM and hopefully you'll enjoy it. After doing that 6 month Solstice quilt with Pat Sloan, I'm not in any hurry to do another quilt along. Take care everyone!

Good evening!!
Days like this drive me crazy- its been busy here and I really hate having to catch up- but its great to see all the posts.
Phyl- agreeing with Meg here- I have heard that the worst is knee replacement and that hip replacement goes very well. Glad you got to Joanns and were able to select a smaller quilt to work on. What are you knitting?
Ruth - red heart with love is so very soft.....I enjoyed working with it a year ago- it was one of the yarns in that baby afghan I made. If your Walmart runs out of the color you need, order online- and its so easy to get free shipping at Walmart- there is always something you can use from there.
Meg- Debbie Macomber is a very popular author. Great thing about her is she writes so much, there will always be a new book to read. Glad you are making good progress on the afghan. Sounds like you need a list of the projects you want to take on. Think Ruth has one, and its a good idea to keep you focused and supplied with the yarn you need.
CJ-the smell baking leaves in the house is incredible! How many points do you figure that raisin tea loaf is? Hope you enjoyed it- does it freeze well?
Well, worked....trained a new driver and then babysat and finished my afternoon at work. So it makes for a busy day. Came home this evening to the horrible news from NYC about some nut running people over in a bike lane. last night I decided just to read awhile- it was less stressful than breaking out the machine. DD got her sonogram results and she is carrying a little girl. I love all my grandkids and am just happy that the baby is healthy.
Have a good night Ginny

Ginny, congrats on the baby grandaughter!! Is due date still March? Yes we don't really care if boy or girl as long as they're healthy.
Yes it sounds as if you had a very busy day
CJ, the raisin loaf sounds good. About the only loaf like that I make is cranberry. It uses very little fat but when I make it I eat way too much of it. Of course now that I've found out about my gluten problem I wouldn't eat it at all unless I could make it out of gluten free flour. I wonder if that would work. I made dh a pineapple upside down cake last night and did have a couple tastes and it was wonderful.I like to bake also and prefer things like loaves because cookies take a lot of extra work.
Got the presents all wrapped and packed. I did get the ties made on the sweater but should have listened to my intuition and made them longer however the sweater does look like it's going to be too big. I guess I'll find out. If so and her older sisters don't want it they can donate it at church or something. I'm sure someone will use it.
Yes really horrible that someone would do something like run down a bunch of people and esp a school bus. Times are getting worse..no surprise there. All kinds of things, bad behavior and all are accepted now as just being a "choice" so no surprise that people escalate but it's still horrible.

Hi everyone,
I didn't sleep well last night and had to get up this morning as the man was coming to service my furnace unit so that it will be all ready for the colder weather. It was a sunny day but is noticeably cooler.
Devin is all ready to go trick or treating. He is Barnie or something, and his mother is Wonder Woman. I usually don't get many kids but I do have some candy just in case.
Ruth you are sure making those cowls up fast and they will make good Christmas Gifts.
Ginny, Years ago I read a couple of her series The one abut the Knitting shop and the other series some thing Harbor. I just finished the Dakota series and The Twelve Days of Christmas. That was a very nice story. I also read a lot of westerns by William W Johnston. I hope you are able to rest this evening after your busy day. How nice to be expecting a new little granddaughter.
cj, that tea cake sounds good. I don't bake very often if I did I would probably eat too much of what I baked. This is a bad time of the year and in the past week I have eaten too many sweets. I know I will have Halloween candy left over so I will have to get it out of the house. I hope you are enjoying your quilting now the weather is getting colder.
Hi Phyl, Hope you are well and keeping busy.

Meg, one of the nice things about living in a development where the houses are not close together is that no one comes trick or treating.I have to confess that when my son was little we took him to another that had houses close and so did everyone else with children here.
Sorry you didn't get much sleep last night and I hope you will tonight. Some nights I can't sleep much at all and other nights are ok. I never sleep as well as I used to but I don't think many people do when they get older.
