Meg, it's nice to see you. I was getting lonesome in here all alone. I know it feels great to have the carpets clean. I need to do that too and also get some new carpeting and flooring and do some painting.I''m glad you got your yarn ready to use while the carpet people were there. I also know you'll have a great visit with your dgd and her dh. It was warmer today but the wind was blowing so hard that it felt even colder. Wind has died down now so hopefully it will stay down because tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer and it could end up being a good day if no wind. I got three rows done on the new cowl but the post stitches in the second row made the edge curl so I took it back out and did just what some call a shallow post stitch for the first row of post stitches. It's working.. Dh mentioned his scarf again so I'd better get back to that too. This one is made in the round which is good because my joining could use some work but I did get the other one done. Now I see people are starting a really stupid debate on whether or not the baby not born yet should be counted in the number of deaths in the Texas shooting. How stupid and uncaring are people? Why would they even wonder about such a thing. It's horrifying that people were killed at all and now they're quibbling about whether or not a baby not yet born should be counted amoung the casualties?

well the box arrived at my ds and ddil's house so they got the aby blaket and she loved it. Also the birthday presents and the sweater. The sweater is too large for the dgd for which it was intended which was what I suspected. One of the older girls loved it though and will use it for now. Meant to mention that we did talk about those cake yarns last week and when I was looking at Walmart the ohter day for the Red Heart with love yarn I saw that they had some of the cakes there. They have both the Bernat pop and lion Brand Mandala. Both are the same price but the mandala cost a lot more than the pop online and it has quite a bit more yardage and looks like a better quality to me. I didn't buy any though because I don't know what I would make with it. I did order some more rarn online just now though because I said I would make Lily another sweater and she likes teal. I made the other out of that Dazzelaire teal and of course you can't get that so I found another teal.I don't have any teal in my huge stash. She said please no pink, red, or green....picky little thing See you all in the morning...or afternoon actually probably. Get a good rest everyone. BTW... I tore the cowl out I started and am going to use a different pattern. Didn't like that one after all. Picture didn't show it up well online.I might try it again some other time.

Good morning!
Imagine a debate over if a baby is a baby or not.......I heard the same thing also on the news. For this instance my response is that the laws of the state of Texas refer to that baby as being a baby- and therefore it too was murdered. No, I do not want to get into a debate over what is a child or not, but again in this instance just feel that the laws of that state are sufficient.
Ruth, glad the box arrived and that they loved the afghan. Its a bit surprising that you did not buy any yarn......ha ha ha....gee, you were not a bit curious as to how it was to work with it? I have never worked with or even seen Mandala.
Slept well last night, which I had to.......I slept so poorly the night before.
Guess I better get myself ready for work. Hi to everyone who checks in.....today is busy for me....thankfully I have tomorrow off. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today Ginny - Your DGS sounds so cute singing that song and playing with his spider. Hope you enjoy making the next crafts too. I also hope you found some good buys during your shopping trip tomorrow. I'm sure your tree skirt looks good. One of my family members has a lemon tree in their house and it produces really good lemons each year. Ruth - I'm happy the new parents like your blanket and that one of the girls can wear the sweater. It's good that you could start that cowl over, hope you like the new pattern. Meg - I hope you're enjoying your carpets, I'm sure they look good. Hope the weather isn't too bad there. We had a nice weather day here after the rainy cold days. The next two days are supposed to be very cold with wind chills. I went out today to the Amish Market and bought more junky food than I need. I'm trying to let it bother me, since I had planned for this. I did find that a few things I bought didn't taste that great this time. I need to remember that the next time I go and just stick to the things I really like the best. It is a fun place to go to, they had a bunch of Thanksgiving and Christmas themed items. I bought some white candy covered pretzels, with red and green sugar sprinkles and they were good. Take care everyone!

WEll I'm back. I had to work on the family room which we don't use as a family room. It's mostly a room where we stick everything we don't have room for anywhere else. I want to make room for my cedar chest to go in there. There's a little closet off that room where the water heater is and has shelves on one side and a place to hang things on the other. I had winter things hanging there so last week I took them all out to see what we could use and what we couldn't use. Some have been hanging there for years and not used. Anyway today I hung the ones back up that we're keeping and left the ones out we're giving away. Also went thru some other things to make space and also get rid of other things that are just taking up space. I didn't finish but at least I started.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you have a long weekend coming up and it sounds as if it's going to get off to a good start with the shopping trip with your friend. I hope you find some nice things. It's so hard to believe that it's so late in the year already and we have to get started on getting things together we want to donate for Christmas. And of course there's the personal prep for Christmas too...shopping wrapping, and whatever else each person does. I don't do much gift buying anymore so not much wrapping and I don't entertain or attend parties. I don't really decorate my house either and the only tree I put up is my fiber optic tree that has the built in lights. I hope you'll be able to take a picture of the tree skirt and share it with us in email. I know it will be beautiful. Yes I can see that little boy singing Itsy Bitsy spider. I know he's very cute.
CJ, I hate when I buy goodies and find that I no longer like them as much as I used to Mostly I hate it because then I feel like I should eat them anyway so as to not waste money..not a smart thing on my part. I do hope you got some you still will enjoy a lot.
Ginny, the mandala yarn is nice. It's a #3 yearn so sport weight rather than worsted but it has over 500 yards on the skein so you could make something pretty large with just one. And it's only $4.99 at Walmart It's much more online. If I go back there soon I'm going to get some. I don't know what I was thinking when I didn't when I was there except for thinking the obvious...that I already have a lot of yarn. For some reason dh and the cashier at Walmart were talking about stocking up on things and I can't hear well but he did say that altho I had a lot of yarn (and was right then buying two more) that I do make a lot of things.. I saw online that the Lion Brand site is out of Mandala and many other online sites are also until after the first of the year. They do seem to have a limited supply at Walmart and that supply seems smaller than when I looked at the yarn the week before( looked again to see if with love would magically appear...it didn't) so I know they're aren't getting more right now. They did have some nice colors.
Have a great evening. I'll stop in later to see if anyone posts later. I love reading message board posts most especially those posted by my friends

Good morning!
CJ- how nice it is that you live that close to an Amish farmers market that you are able to get there regularly without a major effort (for me its a 3+ hour drive). They have such lovely craft items, and I bet the holiday themed gifts were super nice, or at least put you in the spirit a bit. Do you think your taste has changed or just that these goodies were not made the way that you like them? (How disappointing if that was the case!). I am not trying to contradict Ruth here, but will attempt to inspire you to donate or toss out any food that you do not love the way it tastes. You worked SO hard to get to your goal weight- staying there is work too. A food that does not taste all that good is just not worth the points. And yes, if it was me, I would get rid of what does not taste good, and while staying on program enjoy those white chocolate covered pretzels. ( sounds like those were good!)
Ruth, you are an inspiration to me- getting all that cleaning out done, or at least started. Obviously this is not something you normally do, what inspired you to go through this major clean out? It will be nice to get that cedar chest where you want it- keep up your hard work and soon you will have everything straightened out. Simply amazing how we all seem to accumulate so much stuff. Many are guilty of that. I will have to check out that Mandala yarn next time I am in Walmart.
Well, I could use Ruth here to help me clean out. Right now things seem very congested here at y house, and I realize that this is just a season, and we will eventually get rid of some of this stuff.
Last night we went up to visit with DD at school and go out for dinner. It was great to see her- yes, I know she will be home for Thanksgiving, but I also know that she misses being home. Its a wonderful thing that she is only a little over an hour away and that its pretty easy to see her. This semester is difficult for her as she is not just attending school but also observing at a local high school- so it makes for some super long days or her.
Well, the restaurant we ate at served me the first bad salad I have had. I chose not to finish it, because the flavors were all off, it just did not taste right. Right now I am enjoying being the only one up- the cats got me up to feed them and I thought I would just stay up and see who checked in last night. BBL Ginny

Meg, so sorry I missed you here!!! Absolutely, totally- rolling yarn into balls counts as crafting. Now I am probably a minority voice here, but why is yarn not sold in balls? Skeins are such a pain in the neck. Congrats on getting your carpets done! Fresh start for the holiday season.
I just got a lovely free pattern for crocheted boot cuffs- what an awesome idea!!!I thought of Ruth, who is always so thoughtfully making gifts for her family....but would be happy to send the link to anyone here who wanted the pattern. Such a cute idea and they seem to go very quickly.

Ginny, no you're not cotradicting me at all. The best thing to do with things that you don't care for foodwise is to get rid of them...as you said, donate or jut toss it out. Maybe feed the birds if it's appropriate. Just don't eat it when it's not worth it. It was always my downfall...eating things I didn't even like just so it "wouldn't go to waste". Dh is good at thinking that....eat the food anyway so it doesn't get wasted. How is it not wasted if you eat it when you don't want to. We are not human garbage cans.
Ginny, it sounds as though you had a great evening last night. I'm so glad you were able to go and visit with your dd and go out to dinner but sorry you got a bad salad. I hope the rest of the meal was good. And yes, it's great that she's close enough that you can drive there with no problem. I can't believe that Thanksgiving is just two weeks away which means Christmas is just a month away. Then it will be a new year. I liked this year and hate to see it end.
I did work on my cowl last evening but not enough. I have so many things in mind to make that I need to concentrate more on my crafting.
Yes I do think that most of us spend our lives gathering "things" then when we get older we suddenly have an urge to get rid of most of those very things. I started the organizing and moving things yesterday because the cedar chest takes up too much space in the bedroom where it is now.It was at the foot of the bed which worked for me but then dh thought it shouldn't be there and moved it so that it was in front of the long chest of drawers aka dresser..and although I don't keep my clothes in there it's hard to get in there and I want more space. I'd love to get rid of that dresser which is a nine drawer monstosity we got almost 50 years ago. And we also have a tall chest. Our of all those drawers I use two...there are 14 all together....and dh thinks he doesn't have many clothes. He needs to go thru and get rid of some. Oh well. Dh hates to get rid of anything. When cleaning out that storage closet last week I came across a tall bag full of wallpaper that the people that built this house back in 1980 used. I had moved it from one storage area to another way back and this time said I was getting rid of it. Some are full rolls...dh thought we should keep them!!! Why...we'll never use them and I doubt that even Restore would want them.I don't think anyone uses wallpaper anymore.
Ginny, I'm just not good at envisioning how things will look when finished so I need patterns that are specifically for these cake yarns to give me an idea of what to make with them so that's why I didn't buy any the other day. After I see a pattern I usually then alter it in some way or in several ways but I have to have that initial image to get me started.
Well enough blabbing. I need to get busy. Have a great day everyone and I'll see you later.

Oh, one other things... every year people on the old WW board used to mention that they are always the recipients of goodies during the holidays some of which are very good things but they don't want to eat them and interfere with their resolve to not eat sugary, carby treats. I always tell them that if there is something you want to get rid of in the way of goodies, just take it to the nearest hospital or nursing home. the staff of those places usually work long stressful hours and really loved treats. They would love to have them. When I was working I would always work on Christmas Eve and every year there was an organization members of which would come around to all the units at the hospital and give each staff member a lunch bag full of fruit, candy, and for some reason peanuts in the shell. Seems like there were other things in it too but it was great and such a kind thing to do to think of those that have to work on the holidays. Then there was some orgainization that sometime during the holiday season whould bring one of those cans of popcorn that had the three sections...one to each unit and one for each shift. That was great too. Loved that popcorn. Since I worked on the infusion therapy team....aka IV team... I worked over the entire hospital. I was the team for the evening shift so a couple years on Halloween and since kids don't come trick or treating in our neighborhood, I bought all kinds of candy and made up trick or treat bags and gave to each unit and for each shift and said it was from the team. Everyone loved that too.Health care workers probably eat the worst diet of anyone

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you were able to visit your daughter and enjoyed a meal with her. Sorry to hear about that salad, but it's probably good you didn't eat the rest - hope it didn't make you sick. Ruth - Hope you are doing well with your clearing out and reorganizing. Hope you get some crafting in today. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both doing well and getting in some crafting. I don't have any problem throwing out junk food if I don't like it or even if I think I need to get it out of my sight. I try very hard not to throw out healthy food. I keep of list of my refrigerated and frozen items with their expiration dates so I make sure to eat them before they go bad. I wish I could get to a place where I could clear out the stuff in my house. I think part of the problem is that I know I can't stay in the house long term, but I don't have a clear idea/plan of where I want to go or what size home I'll be able to have. Logically I know I just need to get rid of everything that I wouldn't want to take with me to the next place, but that's logic and it doesn't always work well with emotion or for a procrastinator like me It's a beautiful sunny day here, but very cold and windy. Wind chills are in the 20s. We're supposed to have another cold day tomorrow, and then back up in the 50s on Sunday. Take care everyone!

CJ, yes it does sound like the home you live in now would not be a good choice for when you get older. YOu said it's not a safe neighborhood anymore and then there's all the work of caring for a large house and also maintenane. As you said, though, that's logic and we all have our emotional issues to face. I do think that if I moved from here it would be into a small apartment and I would take hardly any of the things I have here with me. If dh were to "go" before me I'd get rid of a ton of stuff in a heartbeat. I'd have my kids pick out anything they wanted then give my neighbor anything he wanted, maybe have a moving sale then call whatever charity would send a truck to pick up the rest and get a dumpter to put all the leftovers in. That being said, it's not easy to let some things go. One of the ladies on the old WW board talked about disposing of her deceased daughter's belongings. She also had a son that lived with her and had cancer and was not doing well so Im sure she soon faced disposing of his things too. I did tell her that I had read that you have to remember that the belongings were not the person but I did caution her that once things are gone they're gone so you really have to think about whether or not you really want to give those particular items away for sure. I did throw away a lot of the letters from aunts and my mother but kept one letter from each of my aunts and probably more that were from my mother.I do have my mother's silverware and china my father gave me and I have letters and cards from friends now deceased but I'll probably dispose of those when I come across them next. I just bagged up a couple more things this morning to donate including some coats to take to the coat drive. We have WAY more coats than we need and dh just bought another. Yes it was a good buy but certainly he didn't need it. I also got two new jackets but they're for spring and I don't have any really for spring that fit so did need these. They were a great price and great brand

Good evening,
CJ- its frustrating for you- intellectually you have a good handle on what you ought to be doing, but emotionally are just not there yet. You are also still dealing with the leftover stuff from your Dad, who is not gone all that long. So in throwing out his stuff too- is like getting rid of him. I face a similar issue- my mom was unable to get rid of her mom’s or step dads stuff- so of course that leaves it to me. And get rid of the stuff I must as it means nothing to no one but me. Start small....even if it is just a drawer or a few items. Any steps that you can take now will make it easier when you want to move on. I can imagine that it must be awkward to have to decide where you want to live, and with that- what to keep and what to dispose of. Perhaps you are just not ready to make the decision yet....
Ruth- like you, if I were left to my own devices, a ton os stuff would leave my house (and Dh would not be very happy about that!). Right now my Dh is holding on to a lot of stuff becasue it was his mom’s- she is not gone a year yet.....so I am not going to pick on him for that. He does not like getting rid of much- the irony of which is that he always complained about what a pack rat my mom was (and she was!) but he seems to be suffering from that too. Oh well, its all part of life....and sometimes I just have to laugh at it all.
Very successful today. I did not have to buy more fabric or batting- will be able to complete the tree skirt with what I have here. Got the border cut and attached today and am ready to attach the back (its pinned and ready to go). Then the batting.....and stippling. Got to Joanns, got the sulky I wanted to stipple with, plus a few other things. I hope to be able to stipple (or start to do that ) by the end of the weekend....Love the color sulky I got, it should look really cute when I am done, i hope.
Hi to Meg and Phyl- hope they are doing well and enjoying the beginning of the weekend. Ginny
