Happy Wednesday.
Good luck with the vet visit, Karen. Hugs for you and Phoebe.
Linda, I am glad your knee felt better and you managed to fight off the sinus induced migraine. Our fluctuating temps are playing havoc with my sinuses, too. I wake up every day with pressure but have been able to avoid a headache since Saturday.
Becky, I am glad you were able to take a walk. 81° would feel very warm after the temps you've had. I bet that rascally Scooter is a happy canine now that she can get out more.
Kathy, wow, if Tuesday made you feel like the week is too long, it must be crazy 😜. Someone on another thread was talking about the sequoia and posted a pic of she and her DH underneath. I wonder how I missed hearing about the Senator? There was a natural bridge made out of coral in Aruba that I just heard collapsed in 2005. I DID see that when I was there.
Liz, are they kicking your behind at St. Crazy?
I am going to skip the treadmill today even though it is raining. My nemesis, left knee/right hip/right heel, don't like the rain and are acting up, so it is chair exercises and yoga for me today. I will get up every hour and walk 500 steps so I can get some cardio, too. If I break it up it will be manageable.
Okay, Karen, Kathy and Liz may think I am obsessed because I have talked about this before, but I heard of a different method (to me) for boiling eggs that I am going to try. You let the eggs get to room temp, boil the water first, then put in the eggs. Boil 6min for soft and 12 min for hard. Then you put the eggs in a container with a lid and refrigerate them for 30 minutes. This is supposed to separate the shell from the whites making them easy to peel. I continue my quest for the perfect boiled egg!

Good Morning TLCs and thanks for the start Chele. Chele - must be the fluctuating weather as I had a horrible day yesterday with the hip and back and the whole damn leg! Went to PT and even my therapist was concerned with the level of pain I had. On top of that I was getting little electrical-like pulses on the lower leg which usually indicates nerve problems. I have been taking the bus from the subway to the hospital instead of walking as usual; even with doing that I am hitting 10-13K steps a day which I may need to try to control better HAH! Cabbage and spinach soup sounds good. I want to make the WW cabbage soup, just haven't had the motivation on the weekend to do so . Poor Iggy with the travel mates from hades! We are also doing the roller coaster temp thing. Snow this past weekend, high only around 30 on Monday and today 44 with tomorrow almost 60! Rain tonight and then the weekend they're calling for much lower temps again and snow showers! Karen - I hope things go well with you and Phoebe today! I will be sending all good karma and hugs to you both for a safe and trouble-free trip. I did not sleep well last night between the hip bothering me and Zoe wanting water again in the middle of the night . Tired today and have a condolence breakfast for my staff this morning at 10:am funded by my previous VP, bless his heart. Took 800mg of Ibuprofen and a Zantac so that I can save the Duexis for later today. Might have to go back to physiatrist and get another cortisone shot; not crazy to do that but really difficult to function with this much pain every day. Did you get your cheesecakes done? I am sure you're looking forward to the GF trip! NY State DOH already called for "masks on" for any and all healthcare workers who didn't get the flu shot since we are seeing many cases. Census is back up in the mid to upper 90s again with OR cases of 160+ which means we are ROCKING!! Kathy - I know what you mean, last week was a short week and was brutal. This week is just a messy week for lack of a better way to put it. Joint Commission Life Safety Inspector came back yesterday afternoon which was NOT expected and did that at 3:00pm ! Feel like doo-doo and just want to go home and snuggle with the Puggles but that is surely not going to happen! Was at the downtown campus yesterday and am trying to get the uptown campus ready for the big scrub color transition. Am going to work on Monday and keep the holiday for another time. I think I need to make the appt. with the hip surgeon just to talk to him about what's going on. Linda - I am not familiar with the topical they gave you but meds are changing all the time. I have had the Synvisc shots on my left knee and they were very helpful along with a cortisone shot. Not sure what the length of time is for the Synvisc but might need to go back to the physiatrist to see if it is time to get them again. Sounds like you are getting the Hyalgan shots which are 5 times versus the Synvisc which is 3. Glad you are still moving about and walking. I am limping too much and brought my collapsible cane with me to PT yesterday so we could set the correct height. Hope you enjoyed the brit dinner. Becky - good that you had a positive IBS week. Knee definitely sounds like it needs some attention and you've done and are doing all the right things so the ortho is the next logical step. I feel like I am a walking osteoarthritis being sometimes ! All my joints are problematic and there are days when I just don't know which one hurts the most . Oh well such is the way of things. I keep on moving and that is all I can do for now. Sodium affects me too as you have seen me post when I eat out. I am fighting getting back into the WW mode of things from the holidays but continue to track and try not to go overboard too far. I think I've been doing some emotional/stress eating as well which is no excuse but I have to own it. Alright lovely ladies, need to get going. Was just notified that a young woman in our EVS area passed away last night . Ciao for now~

Liz, I am sorry your pain is elevated again. Gentle hugs 🤗. I am also sorry to hear about the young lady passing away. Tough month for you and St. Crazy.
I changed my avatar to snow my DB's Corgi, Ginger, in their backyard. DB measured 8 inches at 11pm last night. Portland OR is not used to that much snow. They don't salt the roads but do have snow plows.

Chele,Thanks for the start. It was warm yesterday on my walk.We have a good amount of wind again today so it feels cooler than 67 but we are headed for a high of 80 today and tomorrow. The wind has been kicking up cedar for those affected by it.My knee hurt after my walk and it's still sore this morning. Not much planned for today...Grocery shopping this morning and Kenneth needs to take my car in this afternoon for an oil change.I think I will stay home and might go for a walk.It sounds like a good idea for you to skip the treadmill and get in extra steps every hr.I have been trying to get in 250 steps in each hr for 9 hrs to increase my steps.I'm lazy I buy already peeled boiled eggs.
Liz,I'm sorry about your increased pain.Do you think getting in that many steps is aggravating it?Does your psychiatrist give you the cortisone shots?Mine wouldn't think of doing anything like that but I do only go twice a yr now.I hope the condolence breakfast goes well today. That's why I was confused about Linda's 5 injections.I had heard the Synvisc injections were a series of 3.I looked online and the Synvisc injections are supposed to be good for at least 6 mo but I have talked to people who said they haven't had to get another one in 15 yrs but in your situation I wouldn't think they would last 15 yrs.The odd thing was my left shin popped this morning and there's nothing wrong with that knee.As long as you keep tracking it will turn around again.I am up a tiny bit again so far this week b/c I haven't been drinking all my water so the IBS hasn't been as good but I don't have any pain just some constipation which affects the scale.
Chele,That's a lot of snow.Even in TX they put out sand if and when we expect ice or the rare times we get snow.
Karen,I am sending positive vibes for you and Phoebe and healing vibes for her as well.I hope your trip is uneventful.
Waving to Kathy and Linda.

Thanks for the start, Chele. I created a long post in Notepad early this afternoon and the vet school called to say I could pick up Phoebe and I shut down the computer before I remembered that I hadn't posted it. I thought your new avatar might be Teddy in a Corgi costume. Cute! I have a friend on another board who lives on the coast of Oregon and she has mentioned several times how much snow and nasty weather they have been getting. I think some of the weather many of us have been getting is coming from that direction. I actually used to make my hard boiled eggs by the new method you mentioned. That was before I got the Instant Pot. It worked well. The big thing is to be sure the eggs are at room temp because if they are still cold the shells might crack. You will want to lower them down into the boiling water with a long handled spoon of some sort to keep from burning yourself or dropping them in so hard that they hit bottom and the shells crack that way.
Liz, I'm sorry to hear about another employee dying. Was it expected? I'm glad the breakfast went well but hate the reason for it. That was nice of your former VP to foot the bill for it. How was it? Sorry about the census jump due to the flu. Also sorry about your increased pain level and Zoe's thirst not allowing you to get a good night's sleep. Might be good to schedule a talking appointment with the surgeon just to see. I will make one of the cheesecakes tomorrow afternoon and the other one on Friday so they will both be as fresh as possible for Saturday.
Linda, I can't take anything with Voltaren in it because I have asthma and had a stomach ulcer. I'm happy to hear that your insurance company approved your shots and PT so quickly. That's amazing! I hope it will work well for you.
Kathy, I hope today was better than yesterday must have been. I had forgotten about The Senator. Becky probably remembers in 1989 when somebody poisoned The Treaty Oak in Austin and it took about 20 years for it to recover enough to put out its first acorns after being poisoned. He sent 7 years in prison for that and well deserved. Kathy, U2 is headlining Bonnaroo, which is a festival held in Manchester , TN, between Chattalooga and Nashville. It's in June so it should be relatively comfortable then if you want to head a little north.
So, if you drink more water it helps your IBS? I think that would be enough incentive for me. Do you have well water? I remember the sand on snowy roads the few times I saw the white stuff when I lived in Austin. But most of the time it was after the fact when I saw it. Although I had a 4WD Subaru when I lived there, I knew better than to get out on the highways with people who had absolutely no clue how to drive on slick roads--or on wet roads now that I think about it. And the roads weren't designed for drainage so it was best to stay off the roads in t-storms as well.
I dropped Phoebe off around 9 and got home about 10:30 and the first thing I did was vacuum because the Swiffer hasn't been cutting it. I'll have to do it again in the morning because the charge died before I finished. Dale will be walking Phoebe in the a.m., barring rain, so that should give me a chance to vacuum a bit more. I will go to class tomorrow then will go to the big WM for things I can't find at my neighborhood grocery and then stop at Joann Crafts before I come home to get another skein of yar for my friend's afghan. I finished it and it's a trapazoid instead of a rectangular, so that one went to Dale's office and I will make another one. I think I know where I messed up and I just need to keep a betting eye on my stitch count . I tend to get wrapped up in something else and that's where I get off track. Anyway, Phoebe did fine and we had a different oncologist today who hadn't met her and was surprised at how great she looks after all she has been thorough in the past 10 months. She is doing fine but the oncologist said that side effects usually don't show up for 3 to 5 days, which means Dale may be dealing with them by himself because that would be Saturday and Sunday when I'm gone (unless it starts Saturday morning and I have to cancel out or rush back). As well as she has done with everything in the past, we are prepared but not expecting anything, but then she has existing GI problems from time to time, so I guess we'll just hope for the best. She is now on Prednisone so we'll have to watch her food intake. She is also on Pepcid in addition to the Benadryl she has been on for the last month. She takes more meds than Dale and I combined. But as long as she is happy, we'll take it.
I picked up my first CSA order of the year on the way to get Phoebe. I got some really nice Swiss Chard that I sauteed with some garlic and had it for dinner with the last of my salmon (that was very dried out) and a baked potato. I also got kale, oyster mushrooms, and a dozen eggs. I haven't decided what I'll do with the kale yet. Any suggestions?

Karen,The water helps some with the IBS b/c it is constipation related.I can usually get enough water on the warmer days but on cold days it's hard to b/c the only way I like it is with ice and lemon juice.Yes,We have well water.I'm glad Phoebe did well today. The only way I've ever had kale is raw in a salad. It's got a stronger taste than I care for so I use baby spinach instead as one of the veggies in my salads. You are lucky to have a CSA.It seems like I'm always going to HEB for produce.
I ordered a couple of pans made specifically for smaller convection toaster ovens and I think it may get here tomorrow.I don't think I will have time tomorrow night but I want to try roasting carrots and cauliflower.I had gotten a Bed,Bath & Beyond gift card for Christmas so that worked out great for that.We just about finished all the crock pot pork tenderloin tonight. There is actually enough for one of us for one more meal and I told Kenneth he could have it tomorrow night and if my knee feels okay tomorrow night I will make chili beans and start on that for dinner.I just heard a loud crack in my knee and it hurts worse than it did earlier so I will be glad to get the appointment over with tomorrow.

Oh, I am thinking of getting a folding cane to take to Europe in case I get problems, didn't even think to get it sized. Will get it and do that at PT. I wonder if I can put in a carry on.
Boy we are a lot of people with joint pain.
and a lot if very busy folks.
glad Phoebe is doing Ok.

Chele, thanks for the start. It's just been that kind of week. I think it's just that coming back from the holidays is brutal and seems to get worse the older I get. Sorry your nemesis returned and hope the yoga helped. I have an egg cooker and you just pierce one end with the pointy thingie on the bottom of the measuring cup, add water, turn it on, and voila, perfect eggs! I put them in ice water for a few minutes afterwards and then into the fridge. Liz, yes, a messy week describes it. I felt like doo-doo today too and I think some of it has just been not enough sleep. I always debate on taking this holiday and then I usually wind up taking it. It seems like I need a catch up day after the Christmas holidays. So, what's the new color? Hope all goes well if you talk with the hip surgeon. I hate that you're putting up with so much pain. So sorry to hear you've had another employee pass away. It's sure been a rough start for the new year. Karen, I'm chuckling at the trapezoid afghan. That sounds like something I'd do, but I can see how that could happen if you get sidetracked. I think the girl that burned down the Senator did some jail time, but then was back in the news for getting in some other trouble. So glad to hear that Phoebe is doing well so far and hope that continues. I checked out the Bonnaroo site a couple of days ago and it looked like it was already sold out, but they didn't even have a schedule up. We decided to go to Tampa to see U2 and brave the heat. I got tickets on the presale this morning and they looked like decent seats. No idea on the kale other than using it in salads, but will be interested to see if anyone else has some ideas. Linda, where are you going to in Europe? Seems like a folding cane would fit in a carry on, but they keep making the size of the carry ons smaller and smaller. Becky, I'm not wild about kale in salads either. I know it's good for you, but it's kind of bitter to me.

March 13, Long flight overnight leaving evening in Phoenix and landing in London early afternoon, the waiting for flight to. Vienna, another three hours on a plane, getting in ten at night. Not getting any easier with age.
I am wondering about security allowing folding cane in carry on. Hope I never need it.
