Thyroid problems are OFTEN un-diagnosed and under-treated!
-What we have learned from each other:
1. Never settle for "normal", insist on OPTIMAL.
2. ALWAYS ask for copies of your lab results. They have to give them to you.
3. If you're not happy with your care SPEAK UP or find another doctor.
4. Be Persistent! Giving up means compromising your health. This is about YOU, not the doctor.
5. Your medicine may not be the only treatment for Hypothyroid. There are other options that work well, and T3 meds to help restore balance. Synthroid is a T4 only med.
-BASIC LABS TO REQUEST: Please note all tests do not apply to all people depending on your individual situation.
-FREE T3
Note the word FREE, not total. Most people seem to feel best with numbers at mid to upper range
-FREE T4
Note the word FREE, not total. Most people seem to feel best with numbers in the top 1/3 of the range
-TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, it a pituitary hormone)
-For Hashimoto's:
TPO (thyroid peroxidase antibodies)
TgAb (antithyroglobulin antibodies)
TSI antibodies
-FERRITIN--most people seem to do best with levels around 70-90
-B12--based on research, this should be at least 800, and 1000 is better.
-VITAMIN D (make sure it's the test for 25 (OH)D)
-Other supplemental tests relating to adrenals are:
ASI (Adrenal Test Index)
AM Cortisol
ACTH
-If you post your lab reports, PLEASE list your own lab reference ranges as well, as they all vary.
-Our thread theme song is: "I Won't Back Down
