Well, its cold and rainy here......kind of a yucky day.. Perfect day to stay home and craft. Just made turkeys (using pine cones and craft sticks as feathers) with the grandkids. Next we are making banana bread.....good day to bake too.
Ruth congrats on finishing the cowl....

Thank you, Ginny. It must be really fun to do crafts and other things with the grandbabies. I wish mine lived nearer and wish I had had the time back when the ones that live here were little.
I'm almost finished with the last cowl that I started last night. I have about a third of the last row to go then sewing the short seam, weaving in those ends and I'm done.
Nice and sunny here and 60 degrees. It's a little windy but not bad at all. Dh is thinking of washing outsides of windows. I should go out and wash the inside of my windshield. You know how filmy they can get. Good thing we don't drive at night because with lights shining on that windsheild I'm sure it would be almost impossible to see since neither of us can see at night as it is.
So after my cup of coffee that's what I'll do as well as a couple other things then it's shower time. So see you all later.
I also need to decide what to make for the men...dgs who will soon be 27 and sil and maybe oldest dgd's boyfriend...not sure as I've never even met him.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today : Ginny - Hope you enjoyed the banana bread. Sounds like you had fun with the grandkids, I bet they enjoyed making the crafts. You're probably getting the rain we had, it cleared out here this afternoon. Ruth - Your weather sounds nice. We aren't getting any weather in the 60s for awhile here. You've really made quick work of those cowls. The extent of my crafting today was buying a cross stitch magazine at the bookstore I like to look at the patterns, even though I rarely make them. I had a dental appointment today and after that did some shopping. I also purchased some Honey Baked Ham. I'd been wanting to get it, so I thought I would do it before the holidays. I'm going to try freezing some of it, something I've never done. I'm sure it will be fine. I also might cook the ham bone in some green beans. Take care everyone!

CJ, I've frozen hams a lot of times and it works well. since you talked about the bone I'm just guessing it's a real ham not deli sliced. I've frozen sliced before but it tends to get watery and "funny". sounds like you had a busy day.
I ended up helping dh a little then did a load of laundry and washed the car windows so I did get some other things accomplished beside the cowl. This evening I'll finish the row and then stitch it together and it will be done. I aske dh's opinion on which I should make the guys and he said fingerless gloves to that's what I'll make. We're going to go there for Thanksgiving so if I get everything done I will take them all over then in case the weather gets bad and we don't get there for Christmas.I doubt I'll have everything ready though so I'll just run over there some time when they are ready.
Meg, and Phyl, what are you ladies up to today?

Good evening,
Ruth, indeed 60’s sound good- is this a normal weather fluctuation for you ? That nasty film on windshields is so bad- it really interferes with seeing things well. Hope you got your windows done, on both the car and house. You made great progress on the cowl. BTW- yes what I drink is the International Foods instant sugar free/decaf french vanilla coffee. Its low in points and is a real comfort on a cold night. I am enjoying a cup now. For the men- gee winters are cold- my guess would be (and I know its unoriginal) either a hat or a scarf.
CJ- have you made any decisions on your dental work yet? I remember you were debating between an implant or a bridge.... Indeed we got the rain- it left late morning but was still a cold and damp day. Honey ham sounds wonderful- have you ever made Amish Ham loaf? (I love it). Good idea getting the ham now, before the holiday crazies get out and special items are hard to find.
Grandkids were a bit rough today. The turkeys were fun to make- easy and inexpensive also. Mondays are never easy-today being no exception. Doubt I will get anywhere on the tree skirt- except to look at it from across the room.
Hope everyone has a good night Ginny

Hey Ruth, fingerless gloves are a great idea too.....Dh would know as I am sure you have made them for him also. Agree with your opinion on frozen ham- it does get watery, but does just fine especially for soups. G

Ginny, yes. My dh's hands get cold so I have made him fingerless gloves which he wears even inside while on his computer.
The whole..well butt or shank portions of ham that I've frozen haven't gotten watery but the deli sliced ham does and I don't like it in sandwiches that way. I do love having a bone to make split pea and other soups with. and I like having the clumps of ham that crumbled while slicing, to put into au gratin potatoes.
Just finished the dishes so will start on my evening crocheting now.
I love banana bread but dh doesn't care for it and if I made it I'd end up eating way too much. I had a friend, may have mentioned it before, who used to make the most amazing banana bread.Only thing is she put in choc chips which I like in cookies but not too much in banana bread but then she also put in maraschino cherries which were my favorite part. She would bring it to work for us then as she knew me better she would make me my own personal loaf and she always used one of those hugely long bread pans that filled the whole oven width. I could eat a while loaf of that in one sitting without even realizing.
My grandchildren that live here in town were always way too energetic for me to make things with them.I tried a few times. They were always very hyper and couldn't sit still. When I tried doing any of that with them I spent most of the time trying to keep them from hurting themselves or each other. When I've visited the others we had a good time baking, coloring, etc and they worked well together. They're the ones I taught to crochet. All children, though, have their days.
Yes we have a lot of fluctuations in weather here. Just 3 years ago yesterday the high for the day was 13 below zero and I bet a few days before and maybe after it got warm. Last year late in Nov it was 81 one day.Last year though was a very unusual fall. We had warm days way into December...not at all typical.About 4 years ago on Sept 11th we had 11 inches of snow then it got warm and nice again.

Happy Monday evening everyone. I have been having a lazy day. It was a busy weekend DD was here and I always tired after taking care of her for a few hours. Yesterday we had a full house as DD#1 and her DH were here. We went to Cattleman's for dinner. I did manage to get some crocheting done yesterday in the afternoon and also this afternoon. My afghan has passed the half way point. One side the edge is not quite as straight as it should be. The weather here has been over cast an a few showers but much. This is the time of year when it starts to rain.
Ginny, You have a lot of patience to do crafts with very young children. How old are your DG children? Though I am sure I did that when my DGDs were little and all the other children who were in and out of my house. When DS was little I was the mom who stayed home and took all the kids to the roller rink or where ever the wanted to go. I am glad you had a great time with your DG children They will remember having a fun time with grandma when they are older.
Ruth, I see you are keeping busy as usual and I am sure all the cowls will be appreciated and all the other gifts you make. You amaze me you get so much done in a day. In one of your previous posts you mentioned Christmas at the hospital where you worked. Before I was married I worked at a boarding school for high functioning retarded children. A lot of the kids went home for Christmas but a lot of them did not have suitable homes to go to. So at Christmas people in the community would come to the school with gifts for all the children. The school was run by the London County Council but the school was located in a little seaside town. The kids got lots of presents and it was a happy time for staff and children.
cj, I hope you got some good crafting ideas from your stitch magazine.. I like looking at magazines and pictures of knitting or crocheting patterns. I get ideas for color combinations but I may never make the item. I hope you enjoy your ham and you can probably get a few meals from it. Soup would be delicious.
Someone posted a pumpkin recipe last week and I need to go back and copy it. I had another pumpkin recipe and I will try and find it. Perhaps some one else remembers it. It was posted on WW years ago and it was very low on points..... I took a break and looked through some of my old WW recipes. I may post some of them. I have a lot of core plan recipe's. I liked the core plan as it was easy to follow and I did well on it.
Now I am going to get ready for bed and perhaps read for awhile. Good night.

Good morning!
Meg, indeed it sounds as though your weekend was tiring. Having company over does that- as we strive to meet their expected and unexpected needs. I am sure it was good to spend time with Dd though. Will you be ripping out the afghan to fix the edges or leaving the edge as is? Phyl posted the WW pumpkin mousse recipe - yes low in points and delicious. I ought to get the ingredients and make some myself!
Ruth, I love banana bread a little too much too. I do slice it - put it in individual servings and then toast it. Its a. WW recipe- really one of the best I have ever had and is low fat
Gotta get in the shower. - which I need to wake me up! Slept poorly last night G

I wonder if that recipe is one of the copywrited materials that it'srad mentioned. I know a lot of patterns are copywrited and they say not to share but most are shared over and over again
Beautiful sunny day here. I'm not sure what the temp is today but yesterday it did get to over 60. I've been thinking of moving some things around in my living room but probably won't now that I look over at what I was going to move. There's too much "stuff" on it and I don't know what to do with those things so will probably leave everything as is
I never did get that cowl done even though it's 99.5% done. I started one of the baby balls but ran out of the yarn I was using for it so didn't finish that either. I'll just use white to finish it. I did spend a lot of time looking thru men's fingerless glove patterns but I do plan on making a very simple one. I just like looking at patterns. I used to buy crocheting magazines but now with the internet I just look online.Sometimes though you don't get a lot of results in a search. My dil's mother used to get that small pattern book...workbasket or something?..when she died dil gave them all to me and I still have some. Each one had about one pattern in it that I liked but I've finally thrown most of them away.
Shopping will probably be tomorrow looking for a turkey. We'll be stopping over at dd's house on Thanksgiving but probably won't stay for dinner. Too many people. We'll have our traditional dinner maybe even this weekend but if not then either the day before Thanksgiving or weekend after depending of if we can fit the turkey we buy into the freezer.
Have a great day all

Just a short comment, Ruth I really doubt that the recipe is considered proprietary and would be a copyright issue. Someone probably posted a scan of a points chart or some WW material. I am pretty sure if you went on cooks.com you would probably find that recipe.
Will BBL. Gotta head back to work shortly G

well that's good. The moderators here do a great job and I wouldn't want to post anything that would cause a problem. I was going to copy and paste that recipe.
I did get done what I had planned. We had a coffee table in our little alcove at the end of the living room creating a conversation group with two loveseats but I wanted it in the main part of the living room so I got everything cleared off and got it moved. Now dh will wake up and complain that I shouldn't have done it by myself. Well I may be old but I'm still strong.I am glad though, that he thinks of me and is concerned for my well being. Basically he's a great man.
