DH and I went to a 9:45 a.m. showing of the new movie out this week. Our review is: excellent, don't miss it! We were there with about 2 dozen other "older" people and no one left during the show. It has a lot of dialog as you try to solve the murder with Hercule Poirot. Great all-star cast and even though I've seen previous versions, this was a very good movie. The sets are gorgeous and be sure to stay for the end when Michelle Pfeiffer sings the ending song (lyrics written by Kenneth Branagh). She does a good job.
We also saw some previews of new movies coming over the next few months that also look good.

Dh and I saw it this weekend as well. We both knew the story, had seen at least one earlier version, and enjoyed it. We felt the beginning dragged a bit, but once it got going, so much fun. The scenery was gorgeous.
Our younger dd saw it on Friday. She hadn't seen any earlier versions and hadn't read the book. She enjoyed it as well. Older dd is going today.

Glad you enjoyed it! Planning to see it soon even though I've never seen the original! There was on movie version before this and a couple of television versions. The movie was in 1974 with Albert Finney as Poirot. There was a television version in 2001 with Alfred Molina and another in 2010 with David Suchet. I wondered with the part at the end of the movie if they were setting up to do a remake of "Death on the Nile". (I don't think that was a spoiler)

He turned to me and said, "I think I've seen that movie too. It would be a good one to re-do!". There were at least 2 of this movie: 1978 with Peter Ustinov and 2004 with David Suchet. I think Kenneth Branagh did a good job.

And I just found an article saying Kenneth Branagh wants to do "Death on the Nile". I knew it!

I finally got there this morning. Wonderful movie. Well acted and photographed. The only Hercule Poirot movie I've ever enjoyed.

Guess I'm in the minority. While the scenes were beautiful filmed and the cast was well-known, I felt the movie dragged a lot and was unclear at times (it's been a long time since I read the book.) We were in those reclining movie seats and I have to admit to falling asleep twice!
The end song with Michelle Pfeiffer was beautiful. Definitely will download it!

pbnj, You're not alone. I thought it was *fine*. I'm just the old grump that hates when the original book is changed...I get that they *have* to add stuff like guns and chase scenes to get younger folk to give it a try, but not my thing. It was definitely beautiful, though.

I loved this movie too. I had never read the book or seen any previous shows. I loved going in to it blind so I didn't know how it ended. Really wonderful. My DD was on the edge of her seat - she already has the DVD on her birthday list for next year. lol
