I don't see a start. Maybe I missed it?
We have ds’ well-loved saxaphone as well as dd’s flute. When took up sax we bought a used one off of craigslist and took it in for repadding, etc. Worked out great because for a few years he took it to camp and if it had been shiny new I wouldn’t have let him but since it was a bit scratched already I didn’t care. DD’s flute came from craiglist, too. I ran it by ds’ band teacher before buying, both were good ways to go. We also have a piano nobody uses. Someday I will give that to ds. Robin – offhand I’d say your flute is probably worth at least $2,000 if you were to sell it – not knowing anything about the brand – could be much higher (that’s why dd doesn’t have one). There is a hole in the wall outside of the visitors’ locker room at Lambeau.
Does anyone else suspect their child chose flute because it is small and light? DS dragged that saxophone case with him and dd didn’t want to do that. She actually added piccolo which is like a flute pocket pet.
Ice today. The snow turned to rain which froze overnight and everything was coated. Roads were ok this morning (but I made dh drive me to work!) but parking lots and sidewalks were completely glazed. No school.
Karen – Roads were ok when I left work yesterday but ds had a haircut at 7:00 and when I checked to see that he got home ok he said it was starting to get slick. DD goes to West! She should be at Southwest but we moved her for the IB program. She loves West. Likes the kids much better than the Southwest kids and has gotten involved in things there she never would have done at Southwest (like softball, tennis, and student government). Has loads more friends than she had at Lombardi and is a much happier person, and I love the teachers and staff there. DS went to Southwest and I never got involved there – I felt like they had so many stay-at-home moms they didn’t really want or need my help. (ds once said they would have eaten me for breakfast) but I’m very involved at West. Love that you are an alumn! Do you ever come into town for performances? I'm amazed how many people I meet, especially showing up for performances at school, that are alumni.
Still waiting for a good read. Watched a bit of Travelers on Netflix last night and of course This Is Us.

Hi Marsha and AWF! Sounds like we are all having similar weather. I had an eye appt. yesterday about 40 miles from where we live. Except for the few miles to get to the interstate from our farm it is interstate all the way and it was a sheet of ice the whole way. I was going to cancel appt. as I hate driving on ice but DH said he would take me so off we went. We had to drive only 40 mph and rollovers and people in ditch all over. Besides that semi's were traveling so slow they would spin out and couldn't start again. Tow trucks had to pull them to get them started. After the freezing rain left that we had 4 inches of snow. What a mess! Had a good appt. though and DH and I ran errands and enjoyed both noon and evening meals out. Nice day but I didn't necessarily like being out in the weather, never bothers DH though. He was happy as his new glasses had come in and he killed two birds with one stone as they say. Funny the state highway we live on as very little ice and the interstate was horrible.
I still have about 60 pages left to read in Ordinary Grace before tonight's bookclub and I am trying hard to get it finished. I am really liking it.
Marsha----Your DD's school sounds very active and how fun you can be such a big part in it with your volunteering. You are creating such wonderful memories together.
Robin-----hope your friend still has her hands on that flute of yours. Makes you wonder when she hasn't returned it all these years later. It sounds like a lovely flute.
Have a great day ladies and stay safe on the ice!

Marsha, thanks for starting us up. of course I am sure you noticed me on Facebook, but I just realized that I never started here. I had a commitment for someone come in around 6 pm yesterday, which I looked over, but really had to work on things today, so was involved with that. I also got a call late yesterday about someone who is looking to buy an odd property. House converted to office and house, and may not be legal, so just spent quite a while on that. Basically it means that I have been working almost non-stop since before 9 am, and I am working from home. If I was in the office, with all that goes on there all the time, I wouldn't get this done in a full day. Waiting for someone else to call me back now. I was hoping to get some errands done, but not sure if I will get to it today now.
Karen, I think I missed something you said yesterday, so will have to go back to read.
Jill, how was last night at your DF's? How is he feeling?
Pinky, I would never drive on an interstate full of ice, too nervous. You and your DH are very brave.
Marsha, my flute is a Gemeinhardt. I looked on eBay, but I don't know if mine is a professional or not, so can't really tell. There are plenty for sale on there, and they range from $250 to maybe $1500 if it is a professional model. I doubt I will sell it anyway, but still would like it back.
I read a bunch of The Whistler yesterday. I am at 55%, also reading a romance late at night, after 10:00. Ended up getting a fairly decent night's sleep last night, so was up a little later in the morning than usual. We had rain last night that cleared away a lot of the snow, and it is now 50 degrees. Looks like it won't go below freezing until Friday night, and by then the snow will be almost all gone I hope. DH's car is clear, so glad I didn't waste time getting the snow off it.

Hi Pinky and Marsha. I am glad you are botg safe travelling in the ice. You both have great dh who don't mind driving in the ice. Mibe is the same way, he would drive me. I am atmy Dad's house right now. I go back to work this evening. I found a old Barbara Freetht book Love Will Find a Way. It was in the small library at the nursing home. Have a good day. Take care.

Hi Robin. What a busy morning you had. It is nice to work from home. My Dad is still weak from chemo but I think he is doing good. I will try to check back tonight.

Marsha & Karen, what a coincidence that you have this school in common! And neat too! In reading the posts, it seems there are differences between them - I'm curious, what are the main differences? Pinky, driving on ice is the absolute worst! Take care! Jill, so glad your dad is doing so good! Robin, do you think she still has your flute - how long has it been?
its been a beautiful day here today - about 45 degrees! Our temps have been quite cold so this actually feels "warm"! Tomorrow we expect 50 and rain. Then it's back down to the teens by weekend. No wonder people are sick!
Do any of you get a flu shot?

I always get a flu shot. I used to work at a middle school so I was around kids all the time. Some would come to school sick. I didn't want to take a chance. Now that I'm in my 60s, my doctor recommends it. We usually go to Wal-greens and it is free.
Trying to decide what to read next. I got Hamilton for Christmas, but I'm not sure I want to start it right now. I may go to the library and find something lighter before I read it.
It has been warm the last 2 days, but very windy. We are supposed to get rain later in the week, but nothing freezing.
I'm trying to declutter some. I have started a box for Goodwill.

Anngie, must have been me. I am anxious to hear what you think. It was warm here too, but still when I was out with the dog this afternoon I wore my hat.
Jill, I am quite sure I read that Barbara Freethy. I like her books for light reading, my night time stuff. I agree that a flu shot while working in a nursing home is a good idea, I am surprised they don't require it. More for the patients' protection than your own.
Carol, I don't like to talk about it, but I don't get flu shots. There is a yiddish expression about why I don't want to say it, but I can't translate. Marsha can probably figure it out though.
There is a Facebook WW group, not our Booklover's, but another one, and people talk about Halo Top Ice Cream. I bought some just now when I went out. Not sure it is worth the money, it's $5.99 a pint, but 1/2 cup is 2 pts, as apposed to 7 pts for Breyer's, which is only 140 calories for 1/2 cup, but the new points system hits you hard for things with sugar. I will let you know.
