Meg, no I'm not actually busy. I haven't done much today at all. I did work on my gloves some and I helped with the split pea soup that dh made.
I'm glad to hear that you're nearly done with the afgan. You do work fast. Sometimes quiet holidays are the best. I wish I was just staying home instead of running over to dd's house. We won't stay long unless dh gets involved in conversations but I do need to leave by 4pm at latest so that I can get home before dark.I just can't see to drive in the dark anymore and dh probably can't either now since he's noticed symptoms of cataracts plus he hates to drive and hasn't driven in about 4 years.
Anyway Happy Thanksgiving Meg.Even if we don't celebrate the day by special meals or having company or going anywhere we still can give thanks for all our blessings and we all have many

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Very slow day here. I am waiting for DD to arrive. Devin and his Mom just left. DD in Florida called and had a long chat with her. DS will go to work in a little while.
Ruth, I didn't work on the afghan yesterday and I will probably not work on it today. I hope you enjoy your visit with your family. I do your need to get home before dark I have the same problem. My DH did not like to drive either so I was always the main driver. He did drive to work. I will have to take my drivers test soon before my B/day. I can go on line and do the practice tests which will help. I took the tests last night and I did quite well . Ginny, I hope your day is well. I hope that you and DD enjoy some good movies while she is home.
cj, I hope you are enjoying today. How did your cranberry recipe work out? My DGD in Florida decided to make her own cranberry sauce which surprised me as she never did any cooking that Ii can remember.
Phyl, I hope you enjoy dinner with your friends, have fun.

Happy Thanksgiving again CJ, PHyl, Meg, and Ginny who must still be busy with holiday "business".
Went to dd's house and am back home. It was great getting in my baby holding time. My dggd, who is just under 4 months old is just so adorable. I love seeing those little baby smiles. Dggs wasn't there. They went to another town to his mother;s family for Thanksgiving and of course the other dggs lives in Montana so didn't get to see him today either. Both of the dggs' are just over a year old now... one is 14 months, other is 15 months.
I intend to spend the evening crocheting and maybe some reading. I did get the one pair of gloves made so need to get busy on the others and the other items I intend to make before Christmas.
Have a great evening everyone.
Meg, I hope you have a good evening with Janet and don't get too tired.

Good evening and Happy Thanksgiving!
Well, I am thankful for everyone here- Meg, Phyl, Ruth and CJ- the friendship and love of crafting that we share on this board. I enjoy chattting with each of you every day, and consider it a blessing how we support each other and are here for each other.
Phyl, well some days are not meant for sewing- think we can all relate! Perhaps the next time you want to sew things will go better and you will be able to accomplish what you want.
CJ- hope your day worked out well and you enjoyed the meal you prepared for yourself. One great thing about making your own food is there are no surprises, and everything is seasoned just the way you like it.
Meg - Hope all goes well when you decide to take your drivers test. I do not think any of us here likes night driving all that much- I only drive at night when I know where I am and do not need to read a lot of signs. Hope your visit with Janet was good.
Ruth, how sweet it was I am sure to hold that little one! GLad you got to see Dd and hold the baby. Bet it was nice to get home too...Did you get some crocheting time in?
Well, guess today went as well as it could. I once read that for these family get together, never to expect anything other than that people will be people and most likely not change. In other words, if you have a person in the family who is always too loud and is harsh to deal with, do not expect that person to show up and act like a wall flower. Its just not who they are. So people were people today.... it was a bit of a challenge today for my SIL and Dh - this being the first Thanksgiving without their mother. But it all went ok or shall I say well enough.
The book I am reading is the Memoirs of Laura Ingalls WIlder- have not started it yet, hope to do so in a little bit.
Hope each of you had a good day Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying the day after Thanksgiving Meg - I didn't like the cranberry sauce I made, I think it would been better if I didn't use orange juice and just used water. I also liked it better the first day when it was warm(ish). After it was in the fridge, I just didn't care for the texture of it. It was fun to try though. Phyl - I love the look of those wool projects, but I'm allergic to wool. Working with it causes me to get congested, so I just admire them from afar. Ruth - That DGGD sounds so cute, I'm glad you had some time to spend with her. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to spend time with family. That book sounds like it will be good, please let us know what you think of it. I'd really like to start reading more biographies, people are so fascinating with how they live their lives. I had a wonderful meal yesterday and stayed on track and didn't overeat, so I'm really happy about that. That's 3 years of doing that, so hopefully I've learned some good skills to deal with holiday eating. I have leftover food for dinner tonight and I'll have a cold turkey sandwich today and a hot turkey sandwich tomorrow. It's nice to enjoy the Thanksgiving foods that I don't normally have any other time of the year. It's a beautiful sunny day here, hope your weather is nice too. Take care everyone!

Happy Day after Thanksgiving!!
CJ- do glad that you did so well yesterday. And stuck to your eating plan. Just as a comic aside, the news broadcast I heard yesterday had a silly discussion on the virtue of canned cranberry sauce over homemade. I have tried home made- which my mom insisted upon making, but left to my own devices I used canned. I do enjoy a nice cranberry jellow salad, which I enjoy becasue it has some spices added and sugar free raspberry jello. Cranberries freeze well, so perhaps you can get some to freeze and make a small quantity of homemade cranberry sauce when you want to. Glad you have some meals planned out for your left overs. Weight watchers does indeed teach great skills on handling holiday foods so we do not feel deprived.
Dh and I went out for a walk this am and stopped at Lowes for some paint. I did some cleaning today, as I slowly get the house back to order before the nest round of floor refinishing starts on Tuesday. I am also trying to get rid of some stuff too- we just have too much! No time for crafting today, but I do know that the binding I ordered to finish the tree skirt ought to be here early next week.
Hope each of you is having a good day Ginny

Hello everyone. Today I am being lazy though I did un load the dish washer and Isis some laundry but apart from that I am not doing any thing much. Janet & I spent the afternoon together and she played with her game. Five times she scattered all the pieces on the floor and I had to pick them up I don't do so good picking stuff of the floor. She came early and stayed late so I was really tired and my back ached by the time she left. She is normally here 4 hours and she was here 8 hours yesterday. I did sleep well last night. I have not touched my afghan today so far, perhaps tonight but I really feel just like reading.
Ginny, yes we do have a very nice group to be thankful for. I am glad your Thanksgiving went well. I have never lived close enough to my family so I have been fortunate not to have any disagreements with them. Though I do miss them and wish I lived closer. I just have nephews and nieces living in N. Ireland now. I do have a niece who lives in England with her DH and 2 grown daughters. I do give thanks for them all no matter where they live.
Ruth, AH! a new baby to hold and cuddle with. I bet that was the highlight of the day for you. Sounds like your Thanksgiving went well. It is always nice to get home and relax. I hope you are doing that today.
cj, I hope you are having a relaxing day today. I am glad you tried the cranberry recipe , sorry you didn't care for it. But it is good to try new dishes. I haven't heard from DD so don't know how hers turned out. I usually buy mine in a can.
Phyl, I hope you had a great day with your friend.
Now I am off to read. Have a good evening.

CJ, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't care for the cranberry sauce you made but you tried something you thought would be good and it's always good to try. YOu do have a good plan for eating.
Meg, yes that's a long time to have Janet home.. I know you were tired and I'm glad you got a good sleep
yes holding the baby was the highlight of not only my day but the week. She's such a good baby. The second great grandson who's the 13 month old swollowed a magnet from one of those refrigerator magnets today so dgd had to take him to the ER so I'm waiting to hear what they did. Some things they do nothing but they say a magnet is dangerous for the gi tract. I found out when still working that if a child swollows a button battery you have to take them immediately to the ER and it has to be removed right away. If I hadn't been friends with the pediatric nurses I never woulld have known that. I would have thought it would just pass through but that's not the case. I never thought of refrigerator magnets being a problem. I've always entertained children by letting them move my fridge magnets around never thinking that the magnet might fall out and be a swollowing or chocking hazard.
I did some crocheting earlier but then I stopped to make some spaghetti sauce and a carrot cake. I'll be crocheting this evening.
Have a great evening although I know it's late in the evening for Ginny and CJ

Ruth, that's interesting information about the magnets, I will have to remember that. Kids want to put every thing in their mouths. I worked with children for years and never heard of that hazard. Luckily I don't have little kids here and Devin is too big and would not put something like that in his mouth. He was playing Christmas music today. He then wanted to put up Christmas decorations.
happy restful evening to you all.

Meg, it surprised me yesterday when I got to dd's house to find that all her Christmas decorations and tree were all up. If I did that i would sure be tired of seeing them by Christmas, probably long before. As it is I put my little fiberoptic tree up close to Christmas and the Nativity set up on the table with red table cloth and the small quilt under it at the same time and put them all away the day after Christmas. I have a storage space filled with Christmas decorations but never get them out anymore. I have two of those retro ceramic Christmas trees..one that my sil made and one my ds made. Never get those out either. I just do not like Christmas season. If I had a little child like Devin around it would be a different story becasue I would want to make the season good for him or her but for me I just don't want to bother.

Good Morning!
Meg- that does sound like a lot of work having to pick up Janets game pieces 5 times. Its super frustrating- (similar to when we babysit our grandkids). Hope you are able to pick up after her safely- I sometimes have trouble getting up from the floor, and going up and down too quickly can cause dizziness. 8 hours is a long day....who decides how hong the visit will be? Bet your slept well last night. A peaceful day today would be a blessing for you. Do not blame you just wanting to read last night, bet it was the most relaxing thing you could do after a long day.
Ruth, You would laugh if you’d aw my house. Most of my Christmas decor is up, including my tree. Its a tradition we started when DD#1 was in college- we knew she would not get home until a day or so before Christmas, so she did not get to enjoy the tree as much. Dd#2 wanted the tree up, se we put ours up on Wednesday. Of course most of my house looks like a bomb went off (due to the floors being worked on), but at least the family room is decorated. So glad your GGS is ok!! It must have been very scarey for everyone- especially him.
Not sure what today will bring.....We can start putting furniture back in the kitchen and diniing room later, so I guess we will be doing that at some time.
Hi to Phyl and CJ Ginny

Good morning Ginny and those who come in later
Another nice thing about Thanksgiving was the weather. When we went over to dd's house it was over 60 and even on our trip home it was still 62. At 2am when I went to be it was still 55. Not so warm yesterday though. Today is nice and sunny and is 40 right now is to get up to 64 today too.
I did a little on my glove yesterday but should have done more. I got caught up in reading a book and then wondered why I wasted my time. I won't even bother finishing this book.Plans for today are for pretty much only my crocheting and maybe more organizing.I want to work on the so called family room
Speaking of family rooms, it's great that you have that room to decorate Ginny. Yes with this dd now away at college it's great that she can come home and enjoy the decorations and that the two of you were able to work on that together.
Yes no magnet was found on the xray but I'm sure he wasn't happy at having an xray done but the important thing is, he's fine and didn't have to have any intervention to remove a magnet.I've said several prayers of thanks for that.

Hello everyone, I am having another very lazy day. I got up late and have not done much. I have not worked on my afghan for a couple of days. I will have to find a new audio book, that will get me going. the book I am reading is not an audio book.
Ruth, what will they do about the magnet? Perhaps he didn't swallow it. We will not put up our decorations just yet. We always seem to rush yo put or decorations up and then take them down just as Christmas is starting.. Christmas ends the 5th January I think. Because we have Devin here we do decorate much more than we would do if he was not here.. He gets all into the spirit of Advent. Last year I lead as study group at church during Advent. You may remember that I mentioned it. The name of the book was From Holidays to Holy Days, written by Albert Holtz, O.S.B. I think I will read it again this year..
Ginny, When I was younger I thought nothing of picking up toys or whatever. I figured it was good exercise and I did work with pre school age kids for many years. Now I have to hold unto something so that I don't fall over. When Devin is home he helps with that chore while she is here but he was gone on Thursday. Her care gibers are very good about dropping her off and picking her up. On Thursday a young man who works there part time brought her home and picked her up. I told him I would like to have her picked about 6 to 6.30. He didn't pick her up until 7.45 p.m. They don't have to deliver her or pick her up so I can't say anything. The care home is very close to where I live. I used to have her home for 2 days at Christmas and Thanksgiving. But I just can't handle that anymore and they do take good care of her. She has lived there for 25 years this coming January. Decorating the house while DD was home was a good mother daughter project for you.
Hi to Phyl & cj.
I wish you all a good evening.
