Ruth, my yarn is not well organized, but my mom- who was a slob- did manage to keep her yarn nice. She bought many clear plastic boxes- sort of like double sized shoe boxes and had her yarns separated by color. Most of what she bought was Super saver, so she did not have to be any more detailed that that. The clear plastic boxes stacked well, kept the yarn clean and of course made it easy to see what color was in them. G

Ginny. it does sound like you had a very busy day. Thank you for sharing the info about your phones My dh says he thinks it may be our cable company that we get phone service from and not our actual phone so I'll call them tomorrow or Monday and see if they can tell me anything
It's great that you have your dd home for another weekend and can give and receive dd hugs Thank I have the bear parts all made now just have to put them all together. It's not all that large so won't take long once I convince myself to get started.I got off track because I need black yarn or thread to embroider on the nose, mouth and eyes so I need to go look some up
For my yarn those plastic boxes would be a great idea except that I'd need probably at least 50 of them for all this yarn. I have a whole lot of different brands, different weights and different colors and shades of each color. Right now I have them all piled on the shelves according to manufacturer, weight, and color, and fuzziness. Plastic boxes would be just the thing to have to be able to see them better because now they tend to fall over and some get covered by other skeins and I have to dig to see them all. I might have to start buying a few at a time. Thanks for telling us about it.
The other bad thing is that I've seen a lot of yarn I liked and bought one skein of it. Now some of them have been discontinued and I can't get yarn that matches it so I have to try to be creative and figure out what other yarns would go with it and for what. I'm not very creative so have to get my ideasby looking up patterns and finished items on the net. Some yarns you can combine for some applications but for some things you can't even use different colors of say, Super Saver because they seem to make it different thicknesses even when it's called the same weight.

Good morning! Ruth, you have me howling “I am not very creative”....really?! You are always s working on a new project or adjusting an existing project because you need to make it another size or want to add a border- some modification. You sound pretty creative to me! Onto those plays it pobes- I do believe that I have seen multi packages of them at Home Depot or Lowes-perhaps a less expensive way to purchase them. Or, another idea- I wonder if it is possible to purchase those clear plastic storage bags, like they ones they sell bedspreads in. I know they makes them in smaller sizes, and they would make great storage containers for yarn. I would think they would also stack pretty well- they probably do not slide when on top of each other.
Dd came home last night. We both have plans today and so will only see each other this morning. She will most likely not get back home until the end of December, when she is home for Christmas break.
Think sometime this weekend we will make rum balls,- these need to sit for a few weeks before serving- so now is a good time to make them while Dd is home. Now that the tree skirt is done, I have to refocus on the baby afghan. I liked this pattern, and hope I can figure out what I was doing! Ha ha ha

good morning, I am still round. haven't done much crafting at all. today I am working on the hurricane, cyclone, tornado In my playpen. also need to get out and do some Christmas shopping.
Wednesday I got to meet the hip doctor. very nice man. also skinny. he showed us a video on explaining how he does hip surgery. he also has a video showing how he does it. have not had a chance to go into the website to watch it.
he also took more xrays. the message I Have IS MODERATE TO SEVERE RIGHT HIP OSSTEOARTHRITIS. also have lumbar spondylosis. I kinda knew that .on the 12th I will have a mri.doctor wants to make sure there is no pinched nerve.
we have a Panasonic cordless phone. one in kitchen, end table In lr and one here by the computer. also one In the playpen area. I like the answering machine. even with caller id it is nice to have. don't buy a phone till you talk to the cable company. it could be their problem. could be something inside or outside. don't buy a battery. those batteries can cost as much as a new phone.
I have seen the grape vine quilts. we have a quilter In the quild who is wonderful at applique. she has won a lot of ribbons. years ago the paper did an article on betty. also a wonderful knitter and crocheter.
well better get back to the playpen. phyl

Ginny, I guess I'm creative in adjust the patterns of others but I have a problem looking at yarn and also fabric and figuring out what to make with it. I've bought both yarn and fabric, got it home and wondered what in the world to make using it.When you buy the kits from Herrschner they come in those plastic zip bags. They do stack well but they do slide off. We don't have a Lowe's but we do have Home Depot, Menards, and a local home improvement store so I'll check there. Bins are a great idea and I like the idea of clear ones so that you can see the yarn right thru it. I had my fabric in storage bins but not clear ones so I labeled each one but still had to look inside to actually see the fabric.
Phyl, I have that same "weather" in my craft cave. It sure sounds like your friend is very good at many crafts. What a blessing that is. I one time had a panasonic phone. It did work well. I for sure would never buy a phone battery. As you said, the batteries cost as much as buying a new phone.I'm going to call the cable company on Monday. They were just here about a month ago and brought us a new modem and we don't have any problem with internet.. that's all we have with them is internet and phone.TV is with a different company.
I did get dh's scarf done last night and got the head part of the bear done with the ears put on and also the muzzle which wasn't easy to attach. I think if I make more, and I probably will, I'll do it without the muzzle.I might figure out another smaller nose and mouth part or just embroider the nose and mouth right on the face. Now for the body and arms and legs.
Have a great day everyone
Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Good evening!
Phyl- I am so very glad that your surgeon explained the procedure to you- I feel its very very important for the patient to understand all that will happen to them and the realistic recovery period. I do not know what lumbar spondylosis is, but am glad that you have a good explanation for what is going on and why you have been so uncomfortable. Its my prayer for you that the surgery fixes it all and that you recover very quickly. The same tornado has hit my crafting area- gee, I wonder how such a weather system can be so huge that it makes a mess in 3 different non connected states! Hope that you are having good success with your Christmas shopping....cannot say that I have done all that much yet.
Ruth-you are making good progress onthe scarf and the bear.I wonder if Amazon sells multi packs of those bins- you get enough from them that you ought to be able to wrangle free shipping.
We visited a historic mansion that was decorated for Christmas. The house was built in the 1860’s- and in it’s present state has 51 rooms, of which 28 are bedrooms. I would like to go for a tour of the grounds in the spring- they have some interesting items on the grounds and some artifacts from the Civil war.
I hope to get to that baby afghan this evening.....
Hi To CJ and Meg. Ginny

Ginny I do hope you can get to your crocheting and the pattern comes back to mind and you have an easy and enjoyable time making the afgan for your new dgd. I would really love to see that mansion. It sounds wonderful and I bet the Christmas decorations are spectacular. Going in the spring sounds like a good plan. I bet the grounds and gardens are wonderful too.
Phyl, I think it's great that they show you a video. That way you can understand more about what will happen and why and it can bring questions to mind that you might want to ask.
I've been on pinterest looking at patterns but it's so frustrating because some don't turn out to be patterns at all just pictures and some are not in English. Yes there's the translate button but then you don't really know if the pattern is in US crochet terms or UK terms. I guess it would be easy enough to figure out but sometimes things are left out in the translation
So I haven't got any crocheting done yet today but I did also work on my craft cave so at least now you can walk into the room
Yes that weather system is sure widespread.
I got up late today and the day just seems to be speeding by.See you all later or tomorrow

Good morning all,
Ruth, in my pursuit of the afghan pattern, I had the same frustration with Pinterest. You do wish that if someone will post that they at least include a link for the directions if its not easily evident how to make an item. I saw one afghan pictured multiple times and each time I clicked on it all I got was a link back to the designers web page- which was not any help at all. Very frustrating. Hope you were able to get something done that you wanted to- it can be so frustrating when there just does not seem to be enough time.. Perhaps you needed the additional sleep!!

Phyl, I don't know what to tell you about the scarf. I usually get them too wide but I do think that 37 inches should be good. As for the length well the trend now is super scarves and people like them really long I'm not sure what to say about a 9 year old. I haven't made scarves for my dgds and that's one reason...just don't know what length to make them.
Ginny, yes that's another thing on pinterest is that sometimes you click on a supposed pattern and it takes you to yet another full page of things. Well last night I sure didn't get much sleep. I laid awake for hours. I never get up when that happens because then I know when I went back to bed I'd lie awake for that many more hours. Good thing I don't often have to go anywhere. So you're right I did need to sleep in.Also even when you type "free patterns" up come patterns that are being sold instead.

PHyl, I looked this up to find out since I was curious too and some mentioned that it should be the same as the child's height. Most responses, though, were that you shouldn't make scarves for children because of strangling hazard. They said that many school buses don't allow children to wear scarves as it could get caught in the door when the child is getting out or it could get caught on playground equipment. They suggest making a neck warmer instead or at least make the scarf short(about half the child's height)so that it doesn't dangle where it could get caught on something. They do have charts for average heights for all age children online. Since neck warmers are the "in" thing right now it might not be a bad idea to make one of those but again there would be the question of how long. There are patterns for children's neck warmers online
They say the average height of a 9 year old is 53.5 inches

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today and enjoying your weekend The weather here is very nice, sunny and in the 50s. We're supposed to have a few more days of mild weather and then a cold front later next week. I guess it's about time for that since it's December. I raked leaves in the yard yesterday and filled up 7 of those brown lawn bags. There are still leave scattered around in parts of the yard, but they can just be mulch for the grass this winter I'd love to do some crafting, but I'm just not motivated. I'm sure I'll get it back eventually. I was on Pinterest today too and it can be frustrating the way you can to click so many links just to get to something you want to see. Take care everyone!

HI CJ, good to see you. It's sunny here too and 55 degrees but tomorrow the high will be only 25 and we're to have snow.Good day to stay home and do some weaving in of ends on the items I have finished except for that part. And don't worry CJ, your inspiration will come back and you'll be back to making some beautiful quilts. In the meantime just do what you feel like doing now and enjoy the time and don't worry about crafting. You went to the quilt show and that certainly is related to your crafting and has probably inspired you with ideas
I'm now working on a pair of fingerless gloves for my 17 year old grandaughter to go with the neck warmer I made her. Both are in her favorite color as I had yarn left over. As I was making the first one I suddenly realized that ...yes it's gloves, you have to make two and I wondered if I had enough yarn. So I suddenly got the inspiration that most people probaby got years ago...leftover yarn had been rolled into a ball so after making the first glove to a lenght I thought was minimum possible, I rolled the yarn around that one till I got the other end of the yarn then started the second one. then when I get to the length I have the first glove I'll see how much yarn is left to determine if I can make them longer and I think I can. I just have to leave enough yarn to make the seam. I had thought I'd have to cut the yarn and then if there was enough reattach it to make it longer. This way is sure easier and doesn't waste yarn in the attaching process. And I hate attaching yarn.Sometimes I do have a good idea come to me out of the blue.

Phyl, I do not knit....but will agree with what Ruth said about scarves being too long and that being a problem with kids. The only issue I usually end up having is with the hat/glove combo- those usually include super long tails to accommodate the mittens. I end up begging the parents to let the kids take their hands out of the mitten- so they can hold on the railing. And if I can vent a little bit, while a long dangling anything is not good for kids on a bus, any driver who does not wait until each and every student is 15 feet away from the bus (and therefore any items that could be tangled up are clearly free) should not be driving a bus. I saw this am a cute pattern on allfree crochet .com a combo hat scarf, basically it was a scarf that had a slightly smaller in diameter section that a person would pull over his head. Very cute and someone must have a pattern like that that would fit a child.
Ruth, so sorry that you had another sleepless night. I have all kinds of things I do to try to get myself back to sleep- lavendar in the diffuser, melatonin, or even super soothing sleeping music on Pandora. I just got out the sleep sound machine too with the hope that it might help. Indeed it stinks when sleep evades us. Hope you sleep better tonight.
I figure CJ will sleep well after doing all that leaf raking. Gee, I wonder why you are not motivated for crafting?! Perhaps you are tired from all the fresh air. Nice job getting some activity in today. Enjoy the warm.....yes we are in for cooler weather toward the end of the week.
Gotta check email......hope Meg is doing ok.
Have a good evening! Ginny

Ruth you always have good ideas! I think that is a brilliant way to make sure you have enough yarn and can make the fingerless gloves a little longer. G
