Good Morning! Got a little crocheting done last night.. Also checked out how to make insulated curtains- which sound easy but it might be cheaper just to buy them. Ruth, glad you could stay home in the winter weather- cold and windy. Stay warm and safe.....glad you have your crafts to keep you out of trouble! Thanks for the info on how to stuff the bear. Not sure if I will take that on- but it sure looks adorable and if I finish the baby afghan I might try it. Hope you got a good night sleep last night. Hi to CJ, Phyl and Meg. Off to work G

And if anyone wants to be bored with all the nuances of handling a school bus stop I am happy to share that. For most not in the industry, it might be boring.....do not want to load this thread and bore you all to tears

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I hope your back is doing better today and you were able to get things fixed with your hearing aid. Meg - Congratulations on passing the driving test. We don't have to retake a written test in my state, but I sometimes think it would be a good thing to do every 10 years or so. Ginny - Glad to hear you are getting some crocheting done. You are ambitious to make those curtains, but I'm sure you can do it! Ruth - Sounds like you've been busy with lots of projects too. I hope you can get your gifts mailed out soon. I feel like a Grinch because I really just wish I didn't have to bother with any Christmas gifts for family, and cards either. It's so silly to me that all we do in the family is give each other money. I don't mind getting the gift cards or money for the children, because Christmas is more for them to enjoy. But with the adults just trading money, I'd rather not have the bother The weather here is colder and supposed to be in the 30s one day this weekend. We might even get some snow showers this weekend. I was thinking that I'd really love to finish piecing two quilt tops by the end of the year. I'd really be happy if I could get them done so I could start the new year with new plans. Hopefully setting a deadline will get me motivated to finish them. Take care everyone!

I meant to tell you all that I used some of the rhubarb I had frozen from this Summer. I cooked it with some strawberries to make a sauce and it was really good. I'm going to make some more today. I'll definitely freeze more rhubarb next year.

CJ- the rhubarb/strawberry sauce sounds delightful and is just the way to keep spring alive even though we are looking at snow this weekend!! Perhaps if you set a sort of schedule for yourself you might be able to inspire yourself to quilt again. What about setting aside 2 hours a day or every other day to quilt? I know I used to set aside Fridays for me to sew- gotta say that usually did not work (other responsibilities set in)- but perhaps an idea like that will work. Do not feel like a grinch. Most adults feel the same way as you do- and its a struggle to buy adult gifts- unless you have a specific gift for an adult, its just easier and less stressful to obstain. If you feel that strongly about it, perhaps getting a nice card or ecard would be nice to express those feelings.
Got a question for Ruth, my blood work is fine, and my BP is great ( I do take meds, but have brought Imhotep BP down even lower with excercise. My BP this am was 116/70. I am, by WW standards, about 14 # over my top weight. (I lost about 20 # several years ago.). My A!C was perfect- my doctor (who knows I walk) told me my weight was fine. Should I try to lose the extra weight - it does get to be s struggle, as you know to get down to goal weight.
Just looking for your wisdom......and will decide on my own Gotta go drive the mongrel hoard home G

CJ, Yes it does sound like all your family does is trade money. I wouldn't like that either and would get everyone together to say, hey lets stop this...give money only to the kids and donate to a favorite charity instead of trading money amoung the adults...But that's just me. I quit sending Christmas cards to family too and only send to friends to whom I write letters to include and they do the same back to me.Why bother sending a card and just sign your name. I guess it is an indication that you're at least thought about that person.
I do hope you're able to get those quilt tops done by the end of the year if that's what you would like to have happen.
We have to take a written test only when we first get a license in this state. When we moved here we had to take a written test only. No actual driving test.
Ginny, we, or I should say at least I wouldn't be bored hearing about your job. I bet you see and hear some interesting and funny things driving a school bus. And I do wonder about the children you mentioned last school year. Also I don't know if I mentioned that I'm glad you found your baby blanket pattern and are able to work on it some.Since you've had a lot of experience putting quilt pieces together you probably wouldn't have any problem putting the bear pieces together. I'm a klutz when it comes to putting things together and making seams. That's why I try to make everything I can in the round or flat things that don't need seaming.Speaking of bears though, I did see another pattern for a bear that is cute and looks easier. I put it in my bookmarks folder so just need to look it up and post the link so you can see it. I spent a lot of time last night looking at yet more patterns and also a specific yarn that I wanted but I think the color I want has been discontinued. I didn't see it anywhere online. But at least I restrained myself from buying more yarn.
That is definitely an ambitious undertaking making insulated curtains. I have no doubt that you would do a great job and are more than capable but, yes, it may be less expensive to buy some....if you can even find any. Seems like no one sells curtains or drapes anymore.
Well I do hope you all have a great day although it's pretty late in the day already for those of you in the east.

Ginny, you must have been typing at the same time I was.
I did mean to mention the rhubarb. I used to love when I froze rhubarb for use in the winter but last few years I haven't had extra. I'll have to get some from the neighbors when summer rolls around again and put some in my freezer.
Ginny, I think a lot of doctors are telling patients that they are fine being 20# or less over what WW says we should be as long as your health is good. I think that if your BP is good and your A1C is good that you are fine where you are and should just stick to healthy eating and walking and don't worry about losing that last 14. If you're concerned about being over WW goal, all they require is a note from a doctor saying that your goal should be right where you are right now. They will accept that and change your goal to what the doctor states is a good goal for you. And congrats on losing that 20. It sounds like it really helped to have done that.Do you do any strength training too? Just curious. Walking is SO good for so many reasons but strenth training is great too and requires only that you do some exercises involving weight in your own home...no need to go to a gym for machines and extreme weights... Even stepping...if you have no joint issues ...are good and involve your own body weight as the weights for that. Just step on and off the bottom stair of a staircase every day or a good sturdy step stool. Or you can use a curb outside. Or while waiting for the kidlets you could step on and off the lowest bus stair. Lift soup cans for arm weight. And you might end up with a big suprise. When I finally gave up on trying to lose weight I ended up losing it.My doctor was fine with where I was and I was tired of struggling to get down more so I decided I wasn't going to be obsessed with it anymore. Now I'm lower than I've been since ....well actually last time I was the weight I am now was probably when I was 10 years old.

Phyl- they happen cause the Lord wants you to slow down, I guess. I will pray that the muscle relaxers work and that you are comfortable soon. I. Have had pretty severe back problems in the past, and know how super painful back spasms can be.
Ruth, thanks for your input on my weight. I should try to get those last 14 # off- think overall its probably good for me- but am not unhappy where I am. Yes, I walk, I do Leslie Sansone (which does include some knee lifts and knee bends), I do mock push ups on the bus and frequently use hand weights. I am trying.....and I do appreciate your input and opinion.
The ladies on my bus are interesting this year. THe real rabble rouser of the two of them moved- saying goodbye to her was emotional. It is a more quiet bus without her, and I do miss her. Her buddy misses her too. For all the arguing and hard time they gave me, it all worked out fine.
Got some time in on the afghan.
Hope everyone has a good night

Hello everyone, I have been busy the last few days taking care of odds and ends that are not a big deal . One by one I am getting things done. Today I had to pack up and return some things to Blair so that was a trip to the P.O. and the Bank. Yesterday DS and I did our big grocery shopping. I just have a few more yarn ends to weave into my afghan and that should take about 1/2 an hour. Now I am thinking about a new project. I do need to make some more b/blankets as I gave about 6 away last Sunday. So I need to start again. I also want to start an afghan for DD'
cj, Here in Ca. we just have to take the written test to renew our license and actually it is probably a good idea to do that because I do get the DMV hand book and refresh myself re the rules. I hope you get the quilt tops finished before the New Year.
Ginny, I take my hat off to you being able to drive a school bus and put up with the kids. I don't think making insulated curtains would be easy at least for me it would not be easy. I would go buy them. Good luck with your bear. I knit a Santa Claus about 4 years ago. I still have to sew the pieces together and stuff him. One of these days I will get it done. Congratulations on your weight loss. I don't stress myself anyway more about weight loss. Sometimes I have a losing streak and then I maintain for awhile and I am happy with that.
Ruth, good suggestions for gaining strength which I am supposed to do. The last few Christmases we have been drawing names for Christmas presents of course Devin gets gifts from everyone. So I just have Janet and Devin and one adult. So far Janet is pretty well taken care of. I just have to try and find some movies for her.
Phyl, I am sorry you are in pain and I hope you feel better soon. Do you have a lot of snow already?
Have a good evening.

Well Ginny, I think you're doing an excellent job with your health and if you want to lose the other 14# then you should do it.Think of how great you'll feel having accomplished that.
Phyl, I'm sorry to hear that your back is hurting so bad that you can't go on your trip. It's as Ginny says, things happen for a reason. The Lord does watch over us and sometimes sends obstacles to keep us from doing things we shouldn't do for some reason
CJ I hope you had a good day
Meg, you have a good heart giving away those blankets. I'm sure they're appreciated. It sounds like your family has a good plan for Christmas. Everyone gets something but no one is overwhelmed with having to buy for everyone.
I haven't done any crafting yet today. Did some work around the house and a couple other things so will probably crochet all evening. It's a new week and I'm still on my goals for last week but then who really cares..They'll get done eventually.

ginny if you are happy with your weight where it is don't worry about it. just keep eating healthy and doing your exercises. ww needs to change to change WEIGHT SETTINGS.. I am not the only one that says that. I joined ww in the earl y70's. no matter what program they have out they have me at 121 -135. not at this age.
I didn't save the site. there a is site you send them your weight and a few questions. it saying at my age maintaining is more important then losing. goes on to explain why. course I don't remember ever ythign it said. .
I told don in the exam room there must be a reason for us no to go.phyl

Indeed a busy day for me....babysat the grandkids and tried to get something done here. THink the only thing I succeeded at was babysitting and getting a load of laundry done.
I know we are supposed to lift weights. One really neat โtrick โ i had heard of and suggested to my mom and mother in law was the suggestion tat while sitting- and holding a light weight or soup can- you โdrawโ the alphabet in the air with your extended arms. A fun and easy way to work those arms- also a good way to keep track of your progress- how far into the alphabet you get.
Nice too, as you can do that while watching TV.
Got a few minutes of crocheting in.... hope everyone had a great day Ginny

Hi every one. I haven't done much today and no crafting so far. I did get my Christmas cards out but haven't started writing them. I don't like writing them because my writing is terrible. I may type a letter and I have some Christmas note paper. Actually I would rather not send cards but I don't have as many as I used to. I am trying to decide what I am going to make next. I have a skein of blue Pound of Love that I might use. I will look at some patterns though I may just knit one of my favorites.
Phyl, I hope your back is feeling better and I do hope it doesn't spoil your Christmas.
Ruth, I have just been lazy today. I have been out doing errands for several days and I am just tired today. I need to decide on my next project because I need something to work on when I go to my Knit Wits group tomorrow. I do need to make some b/blankets I don't like not to have one or two. DGDs afghan is in the washing machine at the moment waiting too go in the dryer. Have you finished all your projects?
cj & Ginny I hope you are not too busy and you find the time to put your feet up and relax.
It is getting colder here and soon we will have freezing temps. I hope you are all keeping warm.
