Good morning Ginny and Cj and also to Meg and Phyl.
I just got home from shopping and have most things put away and breakfast eaten. The post office is in the one grocery store and I was surprised to find that there were only two people ahead of me and they didn't take long and the woman right in front of me would not have taken even as long as she did but like many people here she was very friendly and stood and chatted with the clerk. Now I don't want to be a grinch like Cj mentioned but I do think that if employees chat they shoulld work while talking. I just need to be grateful that there weren't a whole lot of people. The real postoffice always has really long lines. But I did get all the cards and the three packages sent and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg this time
Ginny, what a miracle to have to be in DMV for only 20 minutes in NY. I never, ever was able to get in and out of there in that time. Sorry about your class being cancelled but it's great that you were able to get some things accomplished in that time.
CJ, I do think you're right. I know in the past I did have certain expec tations for Christmas and had them not happen. Now Christmas is just another day to me and I'd love to do what I do every day....sit at home doing my own "thing" but I guess I'll have to go over to dd's house at least for awhile.
Ginny, I did get some crocheting done last night but just on another potholder. I might finish up the three Christmas things that need the finishing touches today but then maybe not.
CJ, I do think that Prime is a huge waste of money. We're only trying it for the free month then we'll cancel. It normally costs about $100/year and I think you do then get free kindle downloads and free movies besides the free shipping and two day shipping. If you want to try it you should try the free month and find out if it would be worth the money to you.We don't use any of the downloads or movies. But these coupons we're getting make things a good price but only if there are things you want to buy from Amazon.Usually we get free shipping anyway because there aren't many times when we don't buy $25 worth of stuff but the other day since dh was having dgs' car sent to their home and the other item to our house they tried to charge shipping so that's why we are doing the trial. I did the trial last year in December. Some of the things have free shipping even without buying the minimun of $25.There are some items, though, that they sell only to prime members but then they usually have them for the same price by other sellers but not always, but there really hasn't been anything like that that I couldn't live without.
It was 45 degrees while we were out. Not bad for the middle of December. No sun though. We're having one of our rare sunless days. Our days of really cold are coming though which is why we went out today.
Well I'd better go put away the rest of the stuff.Have a great day all.

Good evening-
Hey CJ- do you have green skin and a sneaky smile like the grinch!? ha ha ha.....totally agree with you that our expectations of holidays can really make our day miserable. Like if you were expecting a super romantic Valentine’s Day and your significant other is not romantic one bit, well there is going to be trouble. It all looks so perfect in those Hallmark movies too- set scenes decorated without a flaw- and yet our lives are usually never like that at all. My Christmas will be different also- Dh and I are trying to figure out how we will deal with it. For me, I really wish my BIL and SIL in Florida lived closer, it would be a perfect day to just be with them...but that will not happen as they do not travel in the winter. So, our grinch friend, hope you stayed warm today and enjoyed your day at home.
Got about 9 Christmas cards written (still have more to do but its a start) and did get a few minutes in crocheting.
Hi to Meg, Phyl and Ruth when they check in Ginny

Hello everyone, I thought I had better check in though I am sure you are all tucked up in bed. I still have not sent my cards off. I might just phone the folk in Ireland. I will get a few cards off soon. I went shopping at Sam's Club today and got a few things I needed. They always have Large tins of European chocolate cookies which are very good. I usually get one for myself and one for Devin's other grandma. The boxes weigh 3lbs and the price is less the $11 so they are good buy. I am still working on my latest b/blanket and it is growing fast. I am getting my days mixed up, I thought today was Thursday, I had a call today and my next cataract surgery it is scheduled for 2nd Jan and I really want to get that over with.
Phyl, thank you for the birthday greetings. I am glad you got through the post office fast and good for you getting your mail off. I have been terrible this year and I need to get my cards off I will do it never fear. I have noticed that the lines are not as long and move fast.
Ginny, Good for you getting in and out of the DMV fast. I got in and out pretty fast when I went. They had a special line for the handicapped and I used that one and I got taken care of quickly and was out of there fast. I already got my new license a few days ago so I can hit the road which I have been doing this week.
cj, I think a lot of people watch all the movies and commercials before Christmas and holidays are not quite what we would like and we have to remember it is just one day. Actually I am relieved when it is all over. It can also be a sad time as we remember past Christmases with loved ones who are no longer here, So I hope I have a good book and that I can relax and enjoy the day,
Ruth, I think the new Pound of Love colors came out quite a while ago. They had a deep red and I can't remember the other colors. I rarely go into the yarn stores as you know I am trying to use up my stash. I will try and remember to take some of my yarn to knit wits and someone will take it home. I want to try some of the newer yarns and I can't until I get rid of some more of my stash. The weather here is still sunny during the day but it is cold early morning and after the sun goes down. It usually gets down to freezing in December.
Now I am going to knit for a little while before I go to bed. Stay warm and I hope you all sleep well.

Not me.I'm not tucked in bed yet but will be soon as I didn't sleep well last night and then was out today.
Meg, the turquoise is really beautiful. I'm glad you got a date for your cataract surgery. I know you'll be glad to have it done. I wish I could get my other eye done. I'm glad your blanket is coming along. When I do that pattern I keep forgetting the yarn overs at the beginning of the rows or I forget the knit two togethers. BettyR sent me her pattern that she makes without the holes at the edges but I do like the look of the holes.
Phyl, I was just on all free crochet looking for a pattern but couldn't find it.
See you all tomorrow

Well, I love my job, especially when I do not have to do it! School is closed becasue of the snow.
Tip about all free crochet- I get the pattern I want, then right click - highlight the directions I want (which takes out all the ads) and paste it into a Microsoft word document. Then all my crochet projects are in word, stored on my computer. Works like a dream and then its easy to make copies of the directions in the future. I have gotten several patterns from them in the past.
Meg, so glad you got a close date for the cataract surgery. Then you will be back to normal (which only takes a few days) for spring. New Year, new vision! Indeed, its a challenge getting rid of your stash of yarn- you bought it and of course do not want to waste that investment. Good idea taking it to knit wits- if there is some that you really cannot envision yourself using it.
Phyl- people are dumb. Most school bus drivers have perfected the art of BLASTING the horn for a jerk who cannot seem to see all the bright lights on a school bus. I think that every driver, and I mean every driver should sit in a simulator (would not trust most drivers behind the wheel of an actual school bus) and see how it looks when a car passes their reds with students outside the bus. Scares the tar out of you. The first time it happened to me,it took me hours to calm myself. WHen will you get your MRI results? So glad to hear that the spasms have ended. They are incredibly painful Ruth, sorry you had trouble with allfreecrochet- I dislike the way it loads, always have to change the email they send me to HMTL format, then it loads, then I get the list of patterns......and then they load. Takes a lot of work but I have gotten some nice patterns from them. Perfect timing for you too at the post office. My home town PO is staffed with really nice people- this is a challenging time of year for them.
Ruth, what pattern were you looking to find on allfree crochet? I can go on the computer and copy the link to send to you. I have extra time today....ha ha ha. Glad you like the turquoise yarn. Turqoise was my mom’s favorite color- it dominated her house (down to the carpet too!!). POL is such nice yarn to work with. Hurray that you got your post office business done quickly too. I hear ya, a chatty postal worker is nice if they are chatting with you, but sort of stinks when waiting online for them to stop chatting.
THink I will work on putting the house back together. Carpet /rugs cannot go back until Monday, so it will not look finished until next week.
Have a great day Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm glad you have a date for your surgery, I'm sure you'll be glad to be done with it. I read an article the other day that said research has shown that people who have cataract surgery live longer lives. Glad to hear you got some shopping done and that your project is coming along quickly. Phyl - I'm sorry to hear your back is still bothering you, I hope they can find something out with the MRI results. Ginny - I checked and I don't have green skin, so I'm not a Grinch, just a grumpy person sometimes Yeah for a snow day - I used to love those when I was working! Hope you were able to get some more cards done and get some things done in the house. Ruth - Glad you were able to get your mailing done. I had several relatives who worked for the Post Office and you wouldn't believe some of the stories they told about their co-workers. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I have a nice visit at the Post Office. Thanks for the information on Amazon Prime, I think it would just be a waste of money for me. The turquoise yarn sounds beautiful. It's milder here today - around 40 compared to the 20s yesterday and there was some sunshine too. I was supposed to go with a relative to the Amish Market today and I'd been planning for all the high calorie food I was going to get there, but we had to postpone the trip to next week. It's probably a good thing since I'd been overeating a lot for several weeks, and this week I got myself back on track. Now I can finish out this week strong and plan for some extra calories next week and Christmas Eve instead. Take care everyone!

Ginny, I was going to say that same thing to Phyl. Highlight what you want to copy or print first then just the highlighted part will be copied or printed. I have a touch screen so don't click but do hold finger on the screen then move the little blue teardrops shaped things to highlight. then the copy, cut. paste options will come up.I just put all mine into folders in my bookmarks. I've never used Word except when I've used it on the library computers in order to print.
Ginny, I'm glad you got another unexpected day off! It snowed here too but not much but I'm still not going out in it.. I was wondering why I wasn't getting the newsletter from Allfree so sent them an email. Somehow they got on my blocked list so after a long time trying to even find my blocked list in email I found that there's a lot of companies on that list. How they got there I have no idea. The email faq says that blocked mail will go to your spam or junk folder. Well there was no email from allfree in my junk folder. This email is difficult to navigate in but g mail seems worse when it comes to changing anything like the name you want to show up when sending
I know this is one of the days that CJ was going out so I hope the weather is cooperative there.
I hope everyone has a great day. I'd better get a start of getting some things done so see you all later

OH CJ, there you are. Sorry your trip was postponed. As you said maybe it's for the best. I've been overeating too so I hope we both can get back on track. It's hard this time of year...not because of holidays so much as that it's just a time of year when our bodies want us to eat to store up for cold weather. I will fight that and I know you will too. We worked too hard to get where we are to let the eating control us again and have our hard work be wasted. My grandson's gf works for the post office but I think she just sorts mail.

Once heard some sage advice from a fellow Weight watcher. he said that he could not control the chaos or things happening in his life, but one thing he could control was what he ate. Good words of wisdom during this time of year when things seem so crazy.
Yes, CJ- sorry the trip had to be postponed, but it will still be fun next week. I kind of think its a good idea that its next week- a little closer to Christmas. Perhaps its a nice tradition for you to go to the Amish market (where they have such great stuff, both food and Amish items!) and treat yourself to something. Forgive me for sounding selfish, but if it was me, I would really enjoy that. Hey, so glad your skin is not green- never ever thought you were a grinch!
Ruth, hope you were able to straighten out the email from All free. LIke I said, they send a LOT of emails, but the titles are pretty descriptive....I just opened one that said vintage crochet items- never should have bothered as it was “too” vintage. Deleted it quickly. Nice that you are also able to save all those patterns on your computer/tablet. Sure makes things easier.
Did some cleaning, and straightening up. Its still gonna be a long time before the house looks normal. BUt its getting there. Made cupcakes to take up to Dd, who will be away for her birthday next week.
Hi to Meg and Phyl- Ginny

The problem many of us have is that we respong to that chaos and things happening in our lives BY eating. That's me for sure. In the last year I finally realized what that person was talking about...if I can't control other things at least I WILL control what I eat and how much
I did use one vintage pattern. It was for the triangular potholder made on a little ring that we probably all saw in our grandmothers' homes many years ago. Then they were made with thread. I made some using ww yarn and they came out larger and thicker of course. This way they're really great for the intended use..much better than the old small ones that were probably mostly used for decoration. It was a challenge making the first part...the part that goes around the ring but it felt so good to finally master that...well accomplish it anyway. Can't say it's actually mastered. Then it was such fun that I made a while bunch of them and plan to send to friends.
And Ginny, if you're selfish I must be too because I'd love to go to an Amish market right before Christmas and get some things to eat and enjoy on Christmas Eve and day.
CJ, you mentioning Grinch reminded me that I have a sweatshirt with the Grinch on it. I'll have to find out what I did with it. I had it just last week. It will be great for keeping warm around the house

ok girls the results are in from the mri .DR. Lawrence called about 5 pm. I have a pinched on both sides. sides. .even told me what number body part it is. narrowing in the back. a cyst near the ovarie. sending the results to my primary doctor. he should call and have a ultrasound set up. I knew it was not arthritis.
so far I am not worried. although I have wonder if there could be a tumor. maybe because of the cancer back pain she went through. so now we wait. dr. Lawrence said we could still go through with hip surgery. it may not be the hip causing the pain..
some doubts but I feel strong In my faith tonight. we did some bumin today. came home and finished decorating the upstairs. phyl
