Happy Monday fellow crafters! Gee next week when we start off, it will be Christmas. Time sure flies.
Meg, glad you were able to check in last night. Because I do not knit, not sure what a garter stitch is, but you are such a pro at it, and I am sure the afghan looks great. Using two strands of yarn is a nice way to make to make it go more quickly, use up yarn more quickly and fill in little holes better. A good project becasue it won’t get to be too heavy either. So glad you enjoyed the movie that your DGD gave you!! And I too hope you can stop in today to say hello to us.
Ruth, got me laughing again. With a smile on my face, of course, I muse over your statement wondering what project you will begin today. You (Meg too!) complete projects in the amount of time it takes me to figure out what I am making....(and then it takes a boatload of time for me to finish). Anyway, I look forward to hearing about your next project. If I read correctly, are you visiting with your Dd for Christmas? Have you had a chance to start your Bible on CD yet?
Slept pretty well last night and because my phone has not rung indicating a delayed opening in school, I assume that the roads are ok and the freezing rain held off. This class that I am to attend is usually a bit boring, but it does allow me to be home a bit more today and I do not have to drive kids. A nice change of pace.
Off to spend some time with Leslie Sansone. Have a great day! Hope CJ can check in and that Phyl is feeling well (and can check in too!) Ginny

Happy new week everyone.
Meg is a very fast knitter and would be even faster if her hands didn't hurt sometimes...or is it all the time, Meg.
Ginny, I'm glad your class wasn't postponed. You'll have it over with. Do you work everyday this week or do you get out early for Christmas Break?
No I haven't listened to my cd's yet because I have to find my cd player. I actually have several but I need the walkman so that I can use headphones otherwise I won't be able to hear it. The set I got is called NIVlive - a Bible experiece, and has different people reading. YOu could check it out on Christianbook site.I don't think it's just reading (just stopped to read the info on the package)..it's more like a performance but I'll find out later today after I find my Walkman.I'd rather it was just someone with a nice voice reading. I don't need music and an "experience"
I was working on yet another potholder last night but for some reason I was having a little trouble with the first row. The first two rows are tricky but after that it's easy. "they" claim you can make one in 30 minutes. Well I think I'm a pretty fast crocheter and there's no way I could make one in anywhere near that time.
Wind is blasting here again today. It was cold in the night and dh was worried about the pipes but it's going to be much colder after Wed. ON night before Christmas Eve it's going to get down to 14 below zero...not counting the wind chill and on Christmas night minus 11 and high for the day will be only 1 degree...if we're lucky. OH yes I want to go out in that...not at all.But yes, dd does live in town but on the other sideof town so we'll probably go. Dh wants to even though he usually doesn't want to go over there. I don't know why he wants to go this year. She will have plenty of people to visit with and we could go another day when it wasn't so cold.
Ginny, garter stitch is when you knit every row and don't do any purl stitches. Stockinette is knit a row, purl a row, repeat.

Done with my class, the instructor Rena straight through lunch to get us out early. I am very thankful for that.
Phyl - can you tell from your post last week which day the problem with the school bus occurred? Go back to last weeks thread.....of course you know the approximate time of day- Hannahs normal pick up time. It really helps the driver- And knowing that you support the driver is such a moral booster! (I know that for a fact). Good luck moving stuff to get the tree up. I have had to relocate stuff to get our tree up too. Don’t stress over the Christmas cards. I have gotten some several days after Christmas and even then its nice to know that the sender was thinking of us.
Ruth, did you find your diskman or CD player? Sometimes those directions just outright lie. I can never make one of those “fast” projects in the time they say- but its still nice knowing that its a project of short duration. Even though Dd is having a crowd, perhaps Dh feels that supporting her on Christmas Day makes a nice statement. Indeed, going out in super cold weather is no fun, but its a nice idea in support of Dd.
Kooky day for me. All Christmas cards are out in the mail, and we are heading out later on to do some last minute shopping. Nice having the afternoon off...
Think Dh and I are heading out shopping in a little bit. Getting down to the end of all the shopping.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - Hope you are staying warm today. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to finish you class and get all your cards out. Hope the shopping goes well. Ruth - I hope you find a CD player so you can listen to the recordings. I can't believe it's going to be so cold there, I hope you don't have to be out in that weather too long. Phyl - Hope you can get your cards out soon. I did a little more grocery shopping today and might just pick up a few more things tomorrow, then I'm done. I think I've figured out what I'm going to take to the family party and I have a few things I'd like to make for a few friends too. The weather was nice today to go out and tomorrow is supposed to be near 60 degrees! It has been tempting having this food in the house and I'm trying to control what I eat. I'm not as worried about it this year as I was the last 2 years when I was still trying to lose weight. If I do gain some weight between now and the new year I'll just start working hard to take it off again. I don't want to live my life depriving myself of foods I enjoy, I just want to learn to be able to control how much and when I eat them - so this holiday will be a good test. I sure wish I'd been motivated to make some Christmas quilts over the last two months. I saw several patterns that I really liked, but I'm just not motivated to do anything and I don't see the point of forcing myself to make something. I think crafting should be done for pleasure, so I'll wait until I'm back in the right frame of mind. Who says you can't make a Christmas quilt in the Spring

CJ, I agree with that completely. We need to enjoy the crafts we're doing or why bother. And NO, we can't deprive ourselves esp during a major holiday season. Of course you are going to use restraint in how much you eat but it's a time for special treats. You've proved to yourself that you can handle food now so, as you said, if you do gain anything you know you'll get right back on track and get that off again before it adds up. Yes I guess the walkman is a cassette player right/ I nave several of those also.I actually have the New Testament on cassette tape. A friend noticed that I have a cassette player in my car and gave me those cassettes. All three of our vehicles have cassette players and one vehicle has a combo cassette and CD player. We never actually ever use them or the radio. I meant to say the same as Ginny about looking back on old threads to find the day the incident happened. Still haven't found the CD player mostly because I haven't looked. I've been busy with other things. One of which was looking at yarn. I found some good deals and now I'm not going to ever buy yarn again...well not for awhile anyway. whatever the grands want made they're going to have to have it made in the yarn i already have.I got some cotton yarn in the mail today to make all the potholders. Supplying the world with potholders is now my mission in life. Saying that reminds me that the Rescue Mission here in town will sure be able to use potholders so I'll take some there.I'm going to take my stash of fabric softener there too. They posted a list of things they can use and with my new washing machine I never make it at the right time to put in liquid fabric softener so now I use dryer sheets. And THAT reminds me that I have a wool sweater I was going to donate ( I have plenty of other things to donate so they're not missing out) It's kind of stretched out anyway so I'm going to take that apart and make some dryer balls with it. Have any of you used those. they are made with yarn but it has to be 100% wool.People suggested going to GW or other thrift store and buying wool items cheap and use that yarn to make the dryer balls Oh and Ginny, you're right about Christmas and family support. Ginny, I hope you're finding what you want and getting some good bargains

Grrrrrrrrr......well we got some done that we wanted to- not all. Think I can get through the holiday ok- just have to wrap now and figure on meals. Shopping with Dh was its normal “interesting” excursion, where he can be totally counterproductive. Today was one of those excursions. oh well, what can you do.
CJ- go ahead and make Christmas quilts in June! I like that idea (or July or whenever). I think crafting should be for pleasure also- not work. Relax and enjoy. We know you well enough here to know that when the spirit moves you to craft you will! With regard to weight loss /following program over a holiday I offer the advice of my former WW leader who I adored. Laura said there are 3 ways to handle a holiday. One is to strictly adhere to program- with only minimal exposure or consumption of special holiday foods. THe other is a bit more lenient, not opening the flood gate and eating like a horse, but being a bit less restrictive- and perhaps expect a controlled one or two pound gain. The third approach is to sort of venture off program for a week- expect several pounds to go back on but- get back on track ASAP. No matter what you choose to do, its an agreement with yourself and how you want to look at your life on program. I liked her attitude.... most of the time I opted for the controlled gain (middle option) and sometimes actually lost over the holidays anyway by using my additional points for a big meal.
Ruth, keep on making those pot holders. Great way to use up yarn!!!!
Another long day tomorrow......but things ease up on Wednesday.
Have a good evening Ginny

hi, I did go back and look. it was December 13th last wednesday. hannah did catch the bus that day because she went to her dad's monday night instead of Tuesday. usually she does not catch the bus on wednesday. I did a little sewing today. should have been getting ready for christmas. I did make the cards out tonight. only had 22 when I got done. usually I make out 40.list gets smaller every year. that's ok.
hey I started those christmas stocking a year ago august and still haven't got them done. a lot of quilters will start projects in july or early fall. all depends on size and how many they want to do.
becki will tell us thanksgiving and Christmas is one day. there foods you love eat them. get back on plan next day.course if someone is going somewhere or a lot of people may becoming to their house that is a different story. because there is a lot of food around and it goes into more then one day.
lest I don't have to worry about baking the kids don't want a lot of sweets. don and I don't need them .dsil might bring a pie or two. phyl

Good morning! Phyl, glad you were able to figure out that date. It will be helpful for the police report. Congrats on getting your cards done. One more thing to check off the list. And so true about getting Christmas crafts done. Look at the catalogs and flyers.....Christmas craft ideas are sold in summer to give us crafters time to make the items.
Off to work G

Hello all. I hope you are all having a nice pleasant day
Ginny, it doesn't sound like you had a great shopping trip. My dh is like that too. He gets very nervous when "crowded". He'd never make it back in a larger town.
Did finish my potholder and started another. Today have been doing some straightening up. My craft cave is a disaster bit that's not what I was working on today. I really need to get those bins Ginny talked about. After I get done here I'm going to work on finishing the fingerless gloves I made for dgd when she was here and also work on my baby blanket I started several months ago. I did get one finished for new dgs and mailed that a couple months ago but this one was started at the same time but not finished. It's to go in the donation pile.
I have a stack of hats that need ends woven in so might get to that today too but no hurry because I won't take them till after the first of the year anyway. Tomorrow I need to get to my wrapping because it will be the last "warm" day before Christmas and I like to wrap up here and have to do dh's gifts up here. I should just do those now before anything else
see you later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Thanks for all the guidance/thoughts on eating treats over the holidays. The last two years I definitely avoided all the holiday foods. I think this year I'm going to try to work with the controlled gain. I'm trying to have as many "on program" days the next few weeks as possible. The other days I'll let myself enjoy some holiday foods, but try to limit the portions. I had lunch today with my DB and SIL as a Christmas get together, it was nice. Tomorrow I'm going to the Amish Market - this is the trip that was postponed from next week. I hope the rest of the week is quieter since I've been busy each day so far. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon everyone. It is a gloomy day here but the wind has stopped for now. Though it looks like we might have rain in the near future. I did make a quick trip to the store this morning for a few odds and ends that I needed and now I am home but I will have to make a quick trip to pick Devin up from school. I have been working on my b/blanket and I am now decreasing so if I keep at it I may finish it soon. I am already thinking about my next project.
Ginny, garter stitch is the very first stitch you learn when learning to knit. The other basic stitch is purl both easy to do and I can knit a b/blanket fairly quickly. I have been checking some of the new yarns on line I would love working with some of them for a change of pace. My stash is slowly going down. I don't think that I finish my projects all that quickly. I have a few UFOs around here that I need to finish.
Phyl, you are not the only one not getting things done as fast as in previous years. So what if something doesn't get done. I had a hard time getting my cards sent off. But they are done for this year. Perhaps I wont send any next year.
Ruth, my hands are not hurting at the moment and I have been knitting. For awhile I was crocheting a lot. Have to go and get Devin.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - Hope your weather is better today and that you get your blanket done. I was surprised not to see a lot of posts, I'm used to reading what everyone is doing I guess everyone is busy getting ready for the holidays. I went to the Amish Market today and limited what I bought since I'm going to be baking some things too over the next few days. The weather here has been mild, which is nice for the last part of December. I think we're supposed to get some cooler weather next week though. Take care everyone!

Yes I guess everyone is busy. I'm glad you had a good time at the Amish market and it just proves what control you have over food now that you're able to pass by some things when you know there are other things you're going to be eating. Weather was great here today. Nice and sunny and 50 degrees but arctic air is supposed to be moving it tonight and that horribly cold weather will be here for awhile. I got the best letters from two of my grandaughters today in snail mail. The one who is 8 said that I'm the best crocheter in the universe Also got a Christmas card from a young woman who used to work with me here in the hospital. She moved to Co years ago but keeps in touch. She writes a letter in the card every year telling me about her year and it always amazing me how she can fit in all that info in a card. She told me about her work and thanked me "for all you taught me" So between the dgds telling me how great I am and friend thanking me for teaching her I've had a great day. Then my dh's cousin called. She's an "interesting" person but it's the only member of his family we ever hear from and she always calls on his birthday without fail. So this year she was feeling a little down so she called us today too.And she isn't actually his biological cousin but they did grow up together. So will all the activity I haven't got any crocheting done. I also did a few things around the house and dug out my wrapping papeer

Good evening! I have not crocheted a stitch in 2 days...yes things have been busy
CJ- glad you got to the farmers market and controlled yourself so well. Do they change what is offered there based upon the season? I would think so and figure they have some pretty wonderful items for CHristmas. Its probably a cheery place too- glad you got out to take in the sights and sounds of the market.
I am honored to know the best crocheted in the universe!! How sweet that your granddaughters wrote such charming letters to you, That makes all the effort you put into those hand made items worth it. You are a very caring person Ruth- and I am happy that others are also showing their appreciation of you.
Work today- and I got some local shopping done in between my morning and afternoon. Now will try to wrap a bit.....wrapping is not my favorite thing to do.
Have a great night Ginny
