Ginny, I'm glad you had a chance to shop between loads of children to drive home. Are you all done shopping for Christmas now. I dislike wrapping also. Some people really go to a lot of work to make their packages fancy. The most work I've ever done is use that ribbon that you could curl using the blade of your scissors but that was a long time ago and I think I only did it once.
Now they've changed the weather forecast for Christmas day and it will be around 17 now instead of just 1 and it will not get to 14 below either of the nights they said before.
I finally did get some crafting tonight. I did one row of my latest potholder a little while ago but I'll probably do more after I get done here.I looked at the fingerless gloves last night and I actually had done more than I thought so I just have ribbing to do on them and I'm done. One of the dgds that sent me a letter said her favorite holiday is Valentine's day..she didn't say why and she's only 11 so it's not boyfriends or anything. So I decided anyway that I'm going to make them each a heart and fill with candy and send.Something like that anyway.I'll look online for ideas.
I hope you all get a good sleep and have a great day tomorrow.

Well never did get back to crocheting last night after all. Today I want to get some wrapping done. It's pretty cold today...only 13 degrees and we had quite a bit of snow in the night. I'm still waiting for one gift to be delivered. It's for my youngest dggd. It's supposed to be here today so we'll see.
Have a good day all. I'll check back later

Hi everyone. It's a bit windy and it is gradually getting colder. I had a couple of trips out this morning. Today is the last day of school and I had to take s veggie tray over to school for Devin's class. Then to the bank. I have been trying to keep up with your posts. We had a computer problem yesterday which seems to be fixed. I have been working on my b/blanket. I just wish I had a day all by myself so that I could just sit and knit. I just have a couple of presents to wrap and then I am finished I hope.
Ruth, you should get a reward for being the best Grandma because you are always working on something for one of them.
Ginny, that's great that you can have a few mins. between bus trips I am surprised that there are not long lines everywhere. The bank was empty this morning. I have never seen it so empty, I got in and out real fast. But I have noticed that at other places I have visited. I am sure you will enjoy your vacation. When is your last day of school? you are a special Grandma as well
cj, did you get to the Amish market. It sounds like a place where I would like to go and browse around. If you were able to go I hope you got some good buys.
I have to go and pick Devin up as he gets out of school early today. Then DS and I are going to get groceries. We haven't been for about 3 weeks. It will probably be very busy.
Phyl, wherever you are I hope all is well with you.

CJ and Meg, great to see you. Meg I'm glad to hear the bank was empty and you were able to get in and out fast. Veggie tray for kids...well it's good for them and I hope they eat the veggies. The schools here don't allow any home made things...no cookies, candy or trays made at home. You have to take store bought things. I would hate to be out grocery shopping from now until Christmas so I wish you well on your trip to that store or the commissary.
CJ, I've made those cookies but never put M&M's in them.I haven't made them in a long time though. I think I put in nuts, chc chips and coconut. The fudge I like is the original one they used to have on the Hershey's cocoa can. I can't seem to get it to turn our right anymore though which is just as well because dh and I both love it and neither of us needs to be eating pure sugar. The only negative I can see in enjoying Christmas treats is that it could be hard getting back on track. Sugar addiction is like being an alcoholic...once you have a little it's hard to get away from it again.
Haven't done a thing today except help dh look for some tarps he was searching for. We finally found them.
Now I can get to my crafting....well after I do some wrapping.
And thank you ladies for the wonderful compliments.
The woman I mentioned yesterday that thanked me for teaching her, well I do think it was just something to say because I really didn't teach her all that much but she's sure done well. One thing I did teach all the young nurses that worked with me is to get everything done that you can as soon as possible and get organized as soon as you start your shift because you never know what's going to happen. She is a certifed critical care nurse, does home infusion therapy and she also has her own company for which she hires all critical care certified nurses to provide private care in a hotel suite to people that have undergone plastic surgery.

Well, you are going to have to forgive me for being so brief....
CJ- freeze those brownies!!! They sound so good, but too tempting. I am sure you will deal with them in a way that works for you.
Ruth, glad you found the tarps for Dh.... and I love that you are thinking ahead to Valentine’s Day.
Meg- I also wish for you a day where you can sit and knit all day....and relax. Hope that you can get to knitwits tomorrow- get to see some friends and some knitting too.
Phyl, hope you are feeling well and that your back is not painful.
Busy day for me, Dd came home from school- so good to see her.
No time for crocheting...hopefully I can get some time in with yarn this weekend.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm glad you were able to get your banking done easily - everyone is probably in the grocery store where you'll have to go later But I hope that trip goes well too. Wow, I can't even imagine having a veggie tray at a party when I was in school - it just wasn't done back in the old days, was it? I guess it's nice that the kids are being taught to eat healthier. Ruth - I agree about sugar being addictive. I know I have problem with it. I'm hoping in January to focus more on cutting back on my daily sugar intake. It will help that I won't be doing all this baking and going out and going to holiday parties. Hope you got your wrapping done. Ginny - I'm sure you're excited to have your DD home from school. What plans do the two of you have over her break? Thanks for the idea to freeze the brownies. That's what I need to do. And I maybe take some to share with family. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well and have everything ready for Christmas. I took the fudge and layer bars over to my friends today, at the office where I used work. I didn't stay long but it was nice to see them, and I enjoyed making the food for them. Then I came home and baked a Date Bread since it's National Date Nut Bread Day. I'd had the dates for a month of so and needed to use them. It turned out alright, but it's nothing really great. I'd been thinking about baking this for about a month or so now so I'm glad I got it done. Tomorrow I have to make 3 things to get ready for the party on Sunday, because I'll have 2 more things to make Sunday morning before I go. I'm also supposed to go out tomorrow afternoon to have lunch with some old friends who are in town. So it's going to be a busy weekend. I'll look forward to Monday when I can relax at home. Take care everyone!

I was typing and all of a sudden a little thing that said phyl popped up and the message flew away to cyberspace. Anyway, what I said was the I'm sure your friends really appreciated that fudge and cookie bars. Everyone loves a treat or two on Christmas and I'm also sure they appreciated your kindness and thoughtfulness. It does sound like you're going to have a very busy weekend. ON Sunday I'll make a carrot cake to take to dd's house on Christmas day and if the weather doesn't allow us to get over there dh will eat it.Otherwise I'll make him one on Tuesday. The weather forecast for Christmas keeps changing. The only thing I have got accomplished today is cleaning the kitchen including washing the floor. Last night I did some crafting. I did write a message for here on my tablet but for some reason I was listed as a guest and then the message didn't go through.

Good evening!!
Cj well I had absolutely no idea that today was National Date Nut bread day!! *My mother loved my date nut bread....although it was horrible for her blood sugar, she sure could eat it! Thanks for sharing that tidbit of information. Sounds like you had a great day sharing treats with former coworkers. It does sound as though you will be busy in the kitchen tomorrow getting ready for Sunday.l Bet by Monday you will be tired- and glad to have a day home.
Ruth- your kitchen floor is cleaner than mine then! Thats a job that is so nice to have done- somehow a clean kitchen floor seems to make things all around look much brighter. Carrot cake.... normally those are so rich and so good. It would be nice if the weather held off so that you could go to Dd’s Worry free.
Well, finally the kiddies are all home for a week. TOday was tiring, normal driving and then babysitting. I also went to make gingerbread houses at DGD’s preschool- had a good time doing that. Now I am home, pretty tired....but glad that I have a week off.
Tomorrow is my birthday- which is never a calm day-. Got lots of wrapping to do....some cooking too.
Have a good evening GInny

Tomorrow is your birthday!!!! So you were almost a Christmas baby. Did you get shortchanged on presents when you were a child? Happy birthday in advance and don't work too hard. It's your special day. It's great that you have a week off. One of the ladies on the other thread I go to said her dgc are off for two whole weeks.
Ginny, I may have mentioned it before, but dh told the diabetic nurse and the dietician that carrot cake is healthy because it has fruit and veggies. As though she'd fall for that one!!

hello Ruth, Ginny, cj and Phyl, I hope you are about finished with your Christmas preparations. Today I went to my Knit Wits group and we had a fun afternoon. We had a gift exchange which was fun and lots of food. We did get some crafting done and lots of chit chat. My house needs to be tidied up a bit and we need to run the vacuum.
cj, I am glad you are having a good time baking and sharing it with your friends, I hope you enjoy lunch with your old friends. I don't know whether the kids were assigned what to bring for the party but Devin took a vegie tray, a small one. I asked him on the way home whether the kids like it and he said it was all eaten. My DGD ordered it from a local store so it was nicer than the ones you see in veggie dept. all ready made up. I sometimes make veggie trays when I have to sign up for something.
Ginny, That is great that you have your DD home and I hope you can enjoy the holiday together and that you can do some of the things you usually do. I think you are a marvel keeping up with the bus children and then home to baby sit and all the other things you do to make a wonderful Christmas for your family. I hope you get some time to yourself before you have to go back to work.
Phyl, I am hoping you will have a pain free Christmas.
Ruth, You keep making carrot cake and it sounds delicious, Do you make it from scratch? You tell your DH that he is a lucky man to have a wife who makes him carrot cake and other goodies. I don't know whether they have that rule about only store bought goodies at school. I know he had that rule somewhere so it was probably where he is now. I know I don't like to eat food if I don't know the person who made it. I would be quite happy with store bought goodies. I guess I am to fussy. Devin always takes store bought goodies when he has to take food to school. His mother usually orders something nice because she doesn't always time to prepare food for an event. BTW your DH is right carrot cake should be considered a vegetable.
Now I am off to listen to a book and do some knitting. Good night.

Meg, I think it's great that the children enjoyed the veggie tray I do think that children like raw veggies on a tray and esp if there's dip, than they do cooked veggies.DH says you're a smart woman...right after I told him you agreed that carrot cake is a veggie.
Yes I make it from scratch but it's not hard. I don't grate the carrots by hand anymore I use my mini food processor. Then you put everything together mostly 2's of everything...2c flour 2c sugar, etc, mix,put in the pan and that's it.It also has "healthy" nuts. I use cream cheese frosting.
It sounds like you had a great party at Knitwits.Gifts and food plus knitting and visiting...Can't beat that. Even when I went to Caps for Kids we never had a Christmas party because we didn't meet in Nov or Dec.
I did get a little crocheting done last night but found that while I was working on it originally I must have been talking too much because there is a mistake that's obvious so had to be corrected so I took that one apart back to the cuff and will work on it today.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm glad to here you were able to get to your group on Friday. Hope you are enjoying your latest book. Ruth - Sounds like you were busy cleaning yesterday, but I'm glad you found some time to crochet too. Ginny - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Hope you have had a wonderful day. That gingerbread house making sounds like it would be so fun, I bet the little kids really enjoyed it. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well. I did some more baking/cooking today - made a Pound Cake, another batch of Fudge, and some Ranch-Dill Oyster Crackers. I have 3 things to make tomorrow morning before I go to the family party in the afternoon. I had a nice lunch today and enjoyed visiting with old friends. We're getting rain tonight but it was in the 60s today. Tomorrow is supposed to be much colder. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
Meg, so glad you got to knit wits and had such a good time. There will most likely not be a meeting next week . It must be really special to spend time with fellow crafters like that- folks that you meet on a regular basis who have seen each other through the ups and downs of life. And from what I see, while all kids really do still enjoy junk food, but most now really want healthier choices sometimes. The veggie tray sounds really nice- glad that Devin was able to know that his contribution was well appreciated. How is the latest baby afghan coming along? You must be making good headway on it.
Ruth, I am in total agreement with Meg, Carrot cake is a vegetable. Plus cause you make it from scratch, and it has healthy nuts in it, it is also a good protein source and dairy source (the cream cheese frosting). So, I might consider it a stretch to call carrot cake a health food, but it sure sounds good and should be enjoyed in moderate portions. (Now you know I am nuts). Hope that you got the mistake figured out on your crocheting. Boy that is a pain when you cannot find where the problem is....but with as much crocheting as you do, I am sure you were able to quickly remedy the problem. Just hope you did not have to take out too much to do that.
Its been an ok day. December 23 is almost never a quiet peaceful day- usually filled with wrapping or shopping or both. Dh and Ds andDD#2 went out to lunch with me- of course that was nice. We also stopped in to see Dd#1 and her family. I got to see everyone, so it was a good day. Dh and I went to the store after we got home to stock up for Christmas dinner so that tomorrow all I will do is attend church and wrap. The way I see it is that December 23 will always be a busy day. I tend to laugh at those who consider a birthday “their day”. Anyway, when I have a quiet birthday will probably be when I am in a nursing home.....and will yearn for the old days of chaos and lots of busyness.
Hope everyone had a great day. Hope to much later on, get some crocheting time in Ginny

CJ- sounds as though you had a busy day cooking and getting ready for your party tomorrow. I love pound cake... gee did you make your own Ranch Dill Oyster crackers? They sound wonderful- I wonder if they are a lot of work. Yes, the ginger bread houses were a lot of fun. So glad I was able to share that time with DGD.
Hope you have a great evening Ginny
