A short hello, it looks like I am chatting with myself now anyway.
Still really cold here, it was zero when I got up this am. I am enjoying the time inside, I find it refreshing not to be in a big rush to have to go out to do something- garden etc....yes I must be a bit nuts, but that is how I am.
We will be heading out later on in the afternoon, have an appointment to have Dd’s Car looked at. It gets us super close to Michaels- have to go in there to get an item for Dh. Oh how painful it will be. I guess I will have to look around the store and see what is there.
Got some crocheting in this am. Progress on the baby afghan is slow but steady Ginny

Happy New Year, Ginny, CJ, Meg, and PHyl.. I hope you all have a happy and blessed year. Ginny, I'm glad you're feeling well enough to go out. Yes going to Micheals will be a real trial but hey, you can do it. I stayed up till 3am last night. I forgot that the ball would drop on Fox News at 11 our time. When I've watched in the last several years I didn't actually see the ball DROPPING. Does it still do that. All I've seen is the clock counting down. Do you all set a list of goals for the year. I think CJ has set one to make a dent in her house clearing. Usually at the end of every year I try to remember what new thing or things I've learned in the past year. When I was working it was usually a new procedure or a new skill. Then it became computer things and for the last several years it's been crafting things mostly.I know there were several things I learnied to do this year but right now I can't think of what they are specifially but I do remember thinking at the time...well this is something I've learned for this year...that happened a few times. Today, who knows. Probably crocheting and a little cleaning and organizing Ginny, you have an appointment on New Years Day to have someone look at your dd's car? They aren't taking today off? Well have a wonderful New Year's day and a great year all. See you later.I'm so happy to have met all of you this past year!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to my fellow Crafters - Hope you are having a wonderful day! Ginny - It's really tough that you'll have to go in Michaels and maybe even have to buy something Hope you are staying warm too! Ruth - I haven't seen the ball drop for years, but I think they still do that in NYC, since I saw they were practicing it on the news. Hope you get in some crocheting today. Meg - Hope your eye is continuing to improve. Phyl - Hope you are feeling better today. I try not to make resolutions since I feel like such a failure when I don't follow through on them. So I just try to think of things I need to do and that I might want to change and work with those. I did put a lot of effort the last few years into my quilting and enjoyed it, but I know this year I need to focus on getting things out of the house. I really have a problem with this because I'll see something and think that I might need it for something and then I have trouble throwing it out. I also have real problems with throwing out things that have any kind of sentimental meaning. So I'm going to focus on just getting things that are trash thrown out and to clear off some of the surfaces (like the dining room table) where things seem to pile up. I watched the Rose Parade today and enjoyed seeing the floats, but I sure wish I could watch it without any commentary and just see the floats and hear the bands. I had to mute the TV since the chatter was irritating to me. Take care everyone!

CJ, my dh has the same problem as you have. He sees something that we never use and think that we might need it someday so doesn't want to get rid of it. Or he thinks it could be repurposed into something else. We do do a lot of repurposing already. And lots of things such as items of clothing he will keep because replacements would cost a lot. You can't imagine how much trouble I have getting him to throw away socks with holes. And you both are right to a certain extent because there are things that have been sitting for years that sometimes we'll see that item and actually have a use for it. The problem comes in trying to find a certain thing we're looking for among all the "stuff". But just remember that you are just one person and will you actually be able to use those things you're considering disposing of and remember that the sentimental things are still just things...they are not the person that owned them. You still have wonderful memories of those you loved that have passed, you don't really need a lot of their belongings. Save a couple special ones and donate them and think of the person that will receive and use those getting some use out of your loved one's things instead of the items just sitting not being used. It's hard and not everyone feels this ame way but it's a thought. You just have to remember too, that if you do give something away that once it's goine, it's gone. So think hard about things and I know you do. Pictures especially are something that I have a hard time getting rid of even though I had hundreds of them

Good evening!
CJ- just an idea- how about putting some of those items in a box- the ones that you are unsure of- and seeing how long you go without having any need of them? The logic here is sort of like how they say you ought to view your closet, if you have not worn it in two years then you ought to get rid of it. I know its tough - sometimes for me the greatest motivator is just how much better things look with less clutter. Glad you got to enjoy the Rose parade. Yes, the floats are so very pretty, its a pleasant thing to watch.
Ruth, I will be facing the picture issue shortly as I attempt to go through my moms photos. How I am planning on getting through them is to sort them by family member/group. Then seriously evaluate each - saving only the best pictures. I hope to eliminate a lot that way. Who knows how successful I will be. I think your story about watching the ball drop was funny. I had VIctoria on, a PBS show on the life of Queen VIctoria. I watched that till I fell asleep.
Believe it or not, I bought nothing at Michaels. The frame Dh wanted was out of stock, so we will go to AC Moore later on in the week. THey also have frames on sale.
Got a bit more crocheting in. Slow but steady.
Hi and Happy New Year to Meg and Phyl. Hope both are doing well. Ginny

hi and happy new year, I don't make resolutions they are meant to be broken. instead I make goals. goals you can make any time of the year. my goal is to be better at being on point and tracking. that's how I want to try and start the new year. what other goals will come when I think of something needs to be done or I want to do.
sure wish this cold weather would go back to Siberia or wherever it came from. maybe we should send it to korea and cool that leader off. anyway we can just hit him with this cold and not the innocent people? only teasing.
have a good night. phyl

Happy New Year Ruth, cj, Phyl & Ginny. I am sleepy so this just a quick drop in to wish you a Happy New Year. I didn't do anything special to welcome in the New Year. I did finish the b/blanket last evening and I am getting ready to start another one. At the moment I am sleepy probably I have had a couple of late nights reading.
Have a good evening.

Meg, and Phyl, it's good to see you both. Phyl, that's what I do too is goals. And yes I'll be happy to be rid of this cold weather too. I don't mind winter all that much but I don't like it to be so cold that the pipes are in danger of freezing and bursting.
Meg, I have a lot of late nights then can't get to sleep once I do settle in to do so. Then I wake a lot in the night. I can't remember when the last time was that I slept all night without waking. It's great that you got that baby blanket done and are planning another. I love to read too and havve a couple books ready to read online from my hold list.
I did start on my Valentine Day projects but got only six hearts done so far and they're very easy and fast but I keep stopping to do other things.First I'm going to make little treat bags, one for each of the grands in In. Then I'm going to make a tic tac toe game with hearts and not sure after that.

I took a little nap and now I'm back. I don't know why I am do sleepy today. It feels colder though not as coldas it is back east. I didn't go out today. I spent some time rolling yarn into balls and I have to finish that as I ran into some tangles near the end of the skein.
Ruth, I am using that pink yarn that they had on sale last year. I do not make NY resolution because I always break them so why bother. I am glad most of the sweet stuff is almost all gone around here. I ate way too much since the beginning of Oct. I think they got a new ball for New Years Eve. I didn't watch the whole evening as I was enjoying my book. They still drop the ball because I saw them practicing with it.
Ginny, I haven't been in Michaels for ages. At the moment I am kitting from my stash the stash is very slowly getting smaller. I hope you were able to get DDs car fixed.
cj, I need to focus on getting a lot of stuff out of my house. I hate to see people bringing stuff in because it is so hard to keep the house tidy. of course Devin got more than he needed for Christmas which adds to the clutter. Three Christmas gifts sent to us never arrived so it looks like they are lost or stolen. My eyes are feeling much better they irritated for a couple of days.
Phyl, Tracking your food sounds like a good way to start the year. I haven't been to WW for ages and I have been thinking I should go back for awhile. But I will think about it. Used to like the core plan but I am sure their plan has changed a lot since then. Hope it warms up for you.
Take care and stay warm everyone.

OK, for some reason this web site messed up and reloaded, so I lost my post.
Phyl - awesome idea to set goals instead of resolutions. Think with a goal its going to be more realistic and therefore easier to maintain. Keeping track of points and tracking is a good inspiration for all of us.
Meg, congrats on finishing a baby afghan in record time! If you were up so late reading, then your books must have been good ones....which is always a good thing. the last book I took out of the library I did not finish, it never really engaged me. I wonder if you are still tired from having your procedure- sometimes things like that take a few weeks for the body to adjust.
Ruth, you kill me, working on Valentine’s Day projects. Guess its that time of year anyway, but I give you a ton of credit for getting a head start. Are these gifts that have to be mailed?
Tough going back to work this am. I am tired, even though my Fitbit tells me I got a normal nights sleep.
Hope to crochet later. CJ - hope your day is going well Ginny

Good morning Ginny and all. It's a little warmer here today. In fact I just went to the mailbox and it wasn't bad at all. Got a nice thank you note from the mail carrier.
Ginny, it must be hard going back to work after a vacation. I know it always was for me.It's so nice to not have to do that anymore. I marvel every day and thank God that I'm able to just stay home and enjoy the life He's given me.
Yes the Valentine's things have to be mailed and one of the dgc has a birthday on Feb1st and another on the 3rd so I want to put these Valentine things in the box with those gifts.
I hope you all have a wonderful day whatever you do.
Oh Ginny, I forgot to mention it but I did look online and none of the coupons were eligible to be used because of the bogo. So with that I did end up getting that yarn for the scarf for $5/skein after shipping and tax so it was a good deal anyway. I always feel like the shipping cost is like paying and not getting anything for it but sometimes it works out. Now we'll have matching scarves if either of us find time to make one that is ..hahahahaha

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. Ruth - How nice to get a thank you note from your mail carrier, I can't imagine any of the ones around where I live doing that. Most of them act like they are doing us a favor delivering our mail - forgetting that they are getting paid to do it Hope you are making some progress on your Valentine's gifts, they sound cute. Ginny - Thanks for the suggestions on decluterring. Sorry you had to go back to work today, hope the roads and weather aren't bad. Meg - I'm glad to hear you are continuing to improve. Hope you got all your yarn rolled. Phyl - Hope you are staying as warm as possible, it's really cold here too, but I'm sure it's colder where you are. I've gotten a little bit of decluttering done, so I'm calling that a success I hope to keep doing some each day. I had a bunch of magazines that I needed to read. I don't know why I just stack them up instead of reading them, but that's what I've been doing. So I'm working my way through them and I've decided that any that come in the mail now will be read within a day or so. It's nice to read them and then throw them out. Years ago I had so many magazines in the house, I had to haul them out in large trash bags! I never want to get to that point again. I'm good about ripping off the address when I receive it and shredding that, so it's just a matter of reading them. Take care everyone!

Good evening,’
CJ- wow you sound like a woman with a strong resolve. So glad you are making headway on your decluttering. A little bit every day and you will get this done....hope you are enjoying the process too! Sometimes getting a good magazine in the mail is like going away on a mini vacation.
Ruth, what color yarn did you get? You will probably get to work with your yarn before I do, I have the baby afghan deadline to meet first. THe yarn is so soft......hope you find it easy to work with. Glad its a little warmer in your area. How lovely that your mail carrier writes a thank you note! I do get a thank you note- but its preprinted and hand signed by our carrier. Better than nothing..
Looks like we might be in for some snow on Thursday.....of course I would be so happy if it closed school.
Hi to Phyl and Meg Ginny

CJ, I agree with Ginny, It does sound as though you have resolve. You've already got some done and I have no doubt that you will accomplish your goal of working toward eventual ridding your home of all unneeded items. I never get magazines becuase I never read them and they just pile up so when I go to the library if there's one I want to read I check it out to read. Same with newspapers. Our one and only newspaper here sentan ad offering 7 day a week delivery for an entire year for only $50. Less and $1/week. I got it and then we didn't read it so they piled up. ONly good thing I can say about that is they made good fire started which magazines don't. A couple years ago I sent a friend some things that I crocheted because she is a person I knew would appreciate the time and work I put into making them and would like the items themselves. What I didn't like is that then she must have felt obligated to send me something in return so she got me subscriptions to two magazines. Now I feel like I can't send her anything more because I'm afraid she'll think she has to send something back and I don't even WANT her to do that. She had already sent a beautiful thank you card and to me that's all that's needed and I actually didn't even need that.
Yes my mail carrier did write a handwritten note. We're on a rural route so the people that deliver the mail are independent contractors for the USPS so probably don't have access to the standard preprinted thank you notes from the post office. Everyone in the neighborhood is happy with his work. Once in awhile we do get an item of mail that belongs to someone else but we just put it into the outgoing mail slot and he takes care that it gets to the right person.
Ginny, I can't remember the name of the color but I got two different ones. I got the one that the pattern mentioned and got another I think my dgd will love. Of course I had to get three of each of those colors because that's required on Michaels online ordering but that's ok. They are a nice yarn and nice color. I don't know how long it will take for it to get here but I'm not going to be starting on it right away either. I have some other projects I need to so first.
Meg, I do have a lot of that pink you mentioned that was on sale last year. Mine is from the sale a few years ago. I also have a few of the creamsicle you told us about. I do need to get busy on using both of those.I think I'm going to do as you do and use two strands. It's so cold in so much of the country that thicker blankets are needed.I do have a blanket started that iis knitted in that diagonal pattern but it's not anywhere near done and I forgot some of the holes at the beginning but it's a "bumpy" yarn and I don't think anyone would notice because iit's kind of hidden so I might work on finishing that one. I like that they don't need an edging. Then I'll work on the pink and creamsicle yarns. Knitting is slow for me but it's something I can pick up and do instead of wasting time like I did today just moseying around the internet.
Have a great evening everyone. I'll check back later to see if anyone posts more
