Short and sweet goddesses is a thread especially for us "Short n' Petite Gals". As "Short n' Petites", we have our own issues. Our goals are lower, and as we all know, a 5-pound loss or gain can make a huge difference on a Short n' Petite. We are here to support and encourage one another, so please feel free to join us!

Hi all,
Happy New Year. I hope this one will be better than the last. Looking forward to traveling and working more on my knitting. Also have some promising professional opportunities coming up. Hopefully no more major medical issues to deal with anytime soon now that my BP is under control.
It is supposed to be really cold for the next week or so.

Wow 16 degrees sounds super cold for Georgia!
It is cloudy grey and pretty cool here today—59–feels cold without our usual sun. No wind tho.
Did Pilates and yoga and am meeting WW BF for lunch—she turned 77 yesterday! I sent her a gift card to our lunch place and told her it was for us so we would get back to our monthly lunches. It’s Hard now with her not going to the gym and us not going to WW—we sort of had built in contact before. Don’t know why but she won’t come to the gym anymore but she always loved it before.
Last night I went to bed at 8:30–managed to stay up till midnight NYEve and then I really crashed last night—I am such a whimp any more on staying up.
Wondering JoAnne about your injury.
DS from SLCity and his SO are home and I still have not bought them a gift and really need to get on with it.
Sue, you are leaving today or tomorrow aren’t you?

Happy New Year! Hope everyone has a great 2018!
We had a low key evening, a friend, ex coworker came over with her daughter and watched the early fireworks - at 6 pm. I had ordered out some pizza and it was very casual. I stayed up for the midnight fireworks, but of course SO went to bed before then.
Holly, thanks for starting us on the new year's thread! You've had too many medical issues this past year.
Joan, strange that your friend doesn't like the gym any more.
Jojo, glad you got some help with the branches. Are you still seeing the dr this week?
Spent yesterday/today packing, so much stuff. Being gone for so long I need to bring extras of everything. A few more things on my list to do yet. Last load of laundry, directions for my housekeeper, freeze some food, give away some food.
Tonight we had a couple come with their realtor to look at our house. The realtor mailed some units in our building about the possibility of selling. The couple is renting a unit, but that owner doesn't want to sell. He is an executive in a sports team and travels a lot, but his wife spends most of her time at their first house, so it would be a second house for them. We are not really motivated to sell unless we get an offer we can't refuse.
Called the jewelry store today, and they promised my watch is coming tomorrow morning.
Glad to be escaping the frigid temps here!

Bon voyage, Sue! You are heading to Florida and the cold weather is heading there from what we saw on the news tonight. DD’s BF from Jacksonville cannot come till Thursday now because flights have been canceled for tomorrow because of weather—in Florida! Crazy!
DH didn’t want me to cook tonight—so we ate at Panera’s—I had a cup of chicken noodle soup—was especially good tonight for some reason.

oh no Joan! We were worried about weather in FL, SO is going to try to find out where our plane is coming from. Leaving here should be ok in the afternoon, not expecting bad weather here until tomorrow night. Yikes.

Isn’n This the craziest thing about the snow in Fla and on the GA coast! In the 20’s here yesterday. Talked to DS in Houston yesterday and they were in the 20’s too!!
Went to the doc Tues. H did not see any breaks in the Xray. Thinks it is all muscle and deep bruising, I just know that when I sneeze or cough it feels like my breast bone is splitting. I won’ get the blood work back for a while . I am still short of breath- maybe because I am not breathing deep enough with the pain. I am a “LITTLE” better but have a while to go . Doc says two weeks is not enough to get improvement. Disappointed to hear that.
Sue - hope your flight gets off! Good wishes for traveling!
Holly sounds like you have a good plan for 2018. I haven’t made mine. Got to get better first.
Joan- you are certainly starting the yr well with Pilates and yoga!
My heating pad is my best friend now.
DGKS not back in school til Mon. DDIL Put the 5 yr old in “camp” (nursery) and I had the older ones yesterday and tomorrow. She is working from home tues. and Thursday . They helped me put the Christmas decorations away- a Big help!
I hate this cold weather!!

JoAnne, I wonder if the doc missed a hairline fracture on a front rib? Or maybe you tore the tissue connecting the ribs? Somehow your cough makes it sound like a broken rib! Hope it wa a digital X-ray machine. I had a broken foot bone once that did not show up to the doctor but the PT guy found it—just a different pair of eyes reading the same picture. I am so sorry to hear it is still such deep pain—you are so active in your yard and house that I know it has to be a real hamper on your usual level of work you do.
I read an article yesterday that was very good explaining why the melting of the polar caps causes the extreme weather—-apparently it is about the air currents that get messed up and allow the air that normally stays above the poles to move down on the globe—yet the overall effect is still totally warming up the earth and the oceans. Very scary how much we are seeing the extremes now. Fear our heat will be terrible this coming year and fires will be worse.
I finished The Alienist—-oh my it was a compelling book—excellent story—but very graphic at times and not at all what I would expect to plunge into and not want to stop reading! Guess that is the sign of a good author. We have book club next Thursday.
Sidney is sad—-his “dad” is gone this morning—-DD broke her ankle walking the dog yesterday stepping off a curb wrong—and DH is taking her to the orthopedic dr today to see whether it needs surgery or not . She worked all day yesterday in pain—wearing a big boot that the PT gave her to make it through the day—-luckily her work is therapy so she sits. I made dinner for her last night but did not go to the dr since I have Pilates and we did not know if she’d be done since they are working her in. Feel so bad for her—seems so many people are falling and breaking bones! She feels embarrassed as she is fit and works out all the time—I’d be feeling old, all of us deal with this kind of thing rather badly I guess. Most of all she worries about not being able to maintain her exercise. And worse yet, it is ski season and she just took DGS and of course they had big plans to do this every other weekend or so at closer ski slopes. Bummer.
I guess Sue is boarding ship today from Miami—the longest I have ever been away from home is 16 days and now I am sort of in a rut—dont really want to be gone for more than a week at a time! I hate missing my classes!
My only NY promise is to finish Molly’s quilt and maintain my weight. I am still not quite off the sugar/snacking binge of Christmas—-yesterday was my best day but I did overdue on rice crackers. But I am trying to not stress about it—just reduce my snacks and redirect them gradually. Not allowing myself on the scale till the weekend. Clothe feel good so I think I am okay.

Hi!
We're in a Miami hotel, will board the ship in a few hours. It's cold and windy here but nowhere near like what's hitting Philly and the east coast right now. Glad not to be there for the bitter cold!
Flight was uneventful, went to the hotel bar for some wine and french fries. Had a meal on the plane so did not want anything more than snack food.
Joan, I do go to the gym on board the ship everyday. I know they have classes too, but I realize how much you love your particular classes. Sorry about your DD! I am so fearful of getting hurt now, it seems to take longer to heal the older one gets, something small can get worse if not careful. Did your friends pick a cruise yet for their anniversary/birthday?
Jojo, you took quite a hit, just don't overdo anything. Can you take something for the pain?
The climate changing is really scary, yesterday was an article on chocolate no longer able to grow in 50 years because where they are now will be too hot. I had read about the effects of melting of icebergs, etc.
Ready to get all settled into our room on the ship. Most of the layout is the same on every ship, so we'll be very familiar. Our first was on this same ship.

Sue- good sailing! Know you are glad to be away from the the bitter cold! I Am tAking 600 mg of Ibuprofen every 5-6 hrs with sometimes 1000mg of acetaminophen in between. It helps except when I cough or sneeze or try to get up from a sitting or lying position. I HATE being so debilitated!
Joan so very sorry about your DD’s ankle. Is she able to work? I have determined that safety in your movement and step is the ultimate as you age. Of course she is still young.
I have ordered a cute poncho pattern- crochet- to make for DGDS andDDILS for next Christmas it is really cute with buttons down the sides and a cowl neck. Will be awhile before I finish other projects to start it though.

Good morning all, Had the kiddos yesterday. Freezing here but finally up above freezing after lunch; so then they helped me with some more cleaning up of the 2017 snow damage to our yard. Don’t know how long we will be working on getting all of this cleaned up. The kids were great workers but it was so cold that we only stayed out an hour ; then inside for hot chocolate and. Marshmeollows!
Between the weather and my present disability, I know my wt is up but just can’t exercise right now while healing. Hate it. Thought I might hear from the doc Fri. About my blood work but did not.

Jo Anne, don’t even think about exercise—-I think I would request another radiologist look at that X-ray—-as a nurse you know sometimes we have to be our own advocate—something seems terribly wrong for you to have so much pain and no cracks at all. DS Park Ranger did say that separation of the ribs is as painful as broken ribs. Maybe you should ask for an MRI?
