Sue- Good to hear from you! Hope the weather does improve!
Joan still waiting to hear from the MD about lab. Even if something cracked they wouldn't’ Give Different care. I am improving every day except cough and sneeze pain- just slow. Will call them today if don’t hear from them. Yesterday went to church, lunch and quick trip to grocery for TP and paper towels. Was really glad to get home and sit?,
DDIL kids are home again today. School called off due to expectation of ice; but doesn’t look like we are going to have it after all. DDIL upset because she needs to work and the kid were READY for school again!

Good morning all—-Sue, good that you are eating more on the protein end—ugh, I am up in weight—started diligent tracking yesterday—I have been snacking again—so must get this halted or I will gain before MX—need to drop a couple pounds now. Constant work!
Got up early and took DD’s boyfriend to the airport—5:30–having my coffee and will poach an egg and get going to 8:30 class in a bit here.
Did you catch Oprah’s speech at Golden Globes—-was so moving.
DD really did a stupid thing—she is depressed and beating herself up big time—tried to talk her in to letting it go==but she went to the park with DGS and a friend and went down a slide—yes, a slide—in her boot with a broken ankle. Of course at the bottom she fell, got a bad sprain on her right wrist trying to catch herself—so now she has a brace and a boot. I will take her to work this afternoon and if she can drive tomorrow will trade cars with her as my car is automatic and a minivan so way more room than her Mazda which is their smallest car and stick shift. What a mess.
I have decided to try getting off all sweeteners other than actual sugar—I use a lot of stevia—maybe that is part of my craving of sweets—-they say that happens when you use sweeteners. I have not used sugar in years and years and have fought the sweets craving forever. I am surprised at how little sugar it takes to make my coffee taste good.
Worked on the drawings for the quilt applique yesterday—ready to cut some background pieces out I think. Still confused about the applique process but thinking I will go over to the quilt shop and see if I can get some advice.
Started reading the sequel to The Alienist—Angel of Darkness.
I saw the actress for Ladybird and the actress for Mrs. Maisel both got GGlobe awards—yay!
Very gloomy today and supposed to rain tomorrow—we have hired two guys to come help DH move a truck load of dirt from the front to my raised beds—starting all over—DH just cannot do this alone—he was resistant but finally accepted the idea. The guys came over to see the job yesterday—they will work hard—hoping they do a good job cause I’d like to have them help clean up some areas of the yard. I want my rosemary bushes pulled out, a palm tree pulled out of a pot and the big flower bed cleaned up. We will see—these guys hang out around the nursery looking for work.
JoAnne, hope you are feeling better or have some better answers. Hey get some arnica gel and rub it on your chest areas that are painful—every four hours—it is amazing stuff.
Holly, assuming school is probably starting this week?
Jordan and I were texting last night—he did get straight A’s—-so proud of him—15 college credits and two high school courses—wow, can you imagine? He took Japanese, psychology 101, speech 101, calculus (college level also), hs english and history. That’s really amazing—no nice home with study area—just a corner of the apartment considered the living room to live in and work, crappy lighting, no parent urging him on—the kid is going to go far!

Joan - Jordan is an amazing guy - sounds like he will keep up the good work! I don't use anything but sugar now for about 2 yrs. Will occassionally use Stevia if I have to.
Got my lab back and my blood count is down again - thus the shortness of breath. I probably should not be taking the ibuprofen in case it is a small vascular leak in the small intestines. I have made an appt with the GI toomorrow at 3 and have a call into the hematologist for an appt. there. I guess the GI will send me to the "other" GI guy who can look at the small intestine with the special scope and fix something if there is something there. I will leave off the ibuprofen and switch to Tylenol for the discomfort in my chest til I see them. I hope I didn't cause this with 3 wks of Ibuprofen.
Still no ice, rain or anything else here and the temp is little by little going up. Everyone around here thinks the school closing used the weather as an excuse and it is really because of the GA-ALA championship game -!!! Crazy!!!

Hi all,
I started back at work on the 2nd, but classes start this week. It has been a nice break.
I had an emergency with my teeth on Friday. My jaw is having a hard time with the new bridges and clenches a lot. They had to repair the upper one, and made me a mouth guard. Should get it in a couple of weeks.
Sue, hope the cruise is going well. How did Puerto Rico look from the hurricane?
JoJo, I hope things will continue to feel better. I got a couple of KnitPicks gift cards for Christmas, so I just ordered a bunch of yarn.
Joan, sounds like DD doesn’t like to be down for long. That’s great about Jordan. I am reading Lilac Girls right now. It is a tough read.

Holly, I pitched Lilac Girls to B Club twice—a couple people read it but they did not do it for BC. I am going to pitch Before We Were Yours this week for February. I heard it was great and Goodreads people rate it highly. It is about the Ophan train days—I just found out that my HS history teacher (one who made me read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich) was put on the orphan train at age 4! Luckily a good couple snatched him up and raised him. Can you imagine?
It started drizzling yesterday and rained off and on all day—dark and gloomy—today it is pitch dark gloomy and raining. Predicted to do so all day. DH and I hired the two guys looking for work and they got all the soil mixed and put in the raised beds just in time before the rain started. DH said they were such nice guys—he got their number and we will have them come back and help us do winter cleanup when back from MX.
DH taking DD to work today and picking up—-lots of driving as she works about 25 miles from here in heavy traffic—last night in rain it took a total of 1 1/2 hrs round trip! Unreal. Makes me glad we are retired!
Holly, I hope the mouth guard works—have you ever had a theraputic massage aimed at your jaw and head—it is very effective if you have a good person who really knows their stuff.
Sue, I have not dropped my Christmas bump up—am going to try going protein and veggies only today and tomorrow and see if I can jump start a trend back down. Starting with eggs this morning and salmon for lunch—turkey breast grilled for dinner. Last night I made chili for all of us but I made cheddar bay biscuits and gave in and had one—loaded with butter and carbs—then gave in and particpated in a couple cookies for dessert—what is wrong with my mentality! For me that’s like going down a slide with a broken ankle—just does not work.

Sue, I just read on Twitter that an earthquake in Central Am is causing a tsunami warning for parts of the Carribbean—just hoping you ship is far past any danger from this!

Hoping to hear from Sue that all was well today. JoAnne, are you getting better or getting answers?
I woke up with either a cold or terrible allergies yesterday—could not stop sneezing and blowing my nose for more than five minutes—so did not go to yoga or weights as I didn’t think anyone would appreciate my being there. Took mucinex last night and slept so soundly—sniffly now but not as crazy yet as before. Am going to pilates in a bit.
I got back into my quilt yesterday and managed to applique my first piece—successfully I feel—it was the ocean going all the way acrosss a panel of beach and sky. Next I need to do beach umbrella poles and the tops—not sure about the poles as they are so skinny. After that hopefully I will have had enough practice to do the seagull. Lots more detail on him. Book club tonight so will not get to work on it this evening.
Did so well on my eating yesterdaay—helps to sew because I’m busy with my hands and don’t think about snacking. Scale has not budged.

Scary about the Caribbean and Sue. Hope we hear soon from her! Holly - so sorry about your jaw! I wear a mouth guard every night. Have now gotten uncomfortable without it. Mine needs replacing but it is expsensive and my insurance doen’t Cover it; so trying to stretch out the present one a little longer.
Joan - how is your daughter’s ankle. I have gained quite a lot too. With the holidays and sitting around since with the injury and the anemia, I don’ t have a chance!
Went to the GI on Tues. He did a bunch of lab and wants me to go to hematology before he does anything else. Went to Hematlogist today. Going to have iron infusion next Thursday and the following Thursday. Will then go back to GI when better for more tests. F/U visit with hematology is Feb 8. This is going to be drawn out. But excited about feeling better after iron infusions. Plan to visit DS inHouston after seeing hematologist in Feb
Making (crocheting) boot cuffs for DDIL now. Good to be crocheting again. Finished one sock knitting and will get back to that later. I should have not done such an advanced project so early in my learning.
Have continued to drink a lot of water, about 32 ozs. Per day. Will try to keep that up

JoAnne, I drink so much more water than that—-I have 32 oz before I leave the house for the gym in the mornings! I take 16 oz with me and finish that before lunch. Then I have a glass or two in the afternoon and about 2 or 3 cups of herbal tea before the evening is over. My glasses are 16 oz. I have taken to drinking warmed water—makes me feel so good for some reason.
Took DD to work—-wow round trip was one hour—am going to change and go to the gym at 10:15–skipped two days and really need the work out. I do have a cold but it’s not raging like the first day.
Book club was so fun last night—one member ( former teacher of mine who just retired) made each of us little dessert plates that look on top like flower petals sort of and the bottom she pressed real kale and lettuce and cabbage into the clay to get the natural imprints on the bottom surface—-so fun—we each ate our dessert in them and then got to take them home. Mine is orange so goes great in the house with my few orange accents—
We are reading Before We Were Yours for February and Under the Scarlet Sky for March . Will be at my house in February.
DGD17 got accepted into Marymount Manhatten for school and was offered a $9000 scholarship—still has to audition for the school of dance but academically she is accepted. It was not her first choice but is more affordable than Fordham or a couple others she applied to.

Joan- that IS a lot of water you drink. The 32 oz is a lot for me. I was previously hardly drinking any. Now I drink it with meals and then 32 ozs between dinner and bedtime. I have found I feel much better after taking my meds when I drink the water. Congratulations on your DGD’s scolarship! Good for her!
Holly - the holiday is DH’s birthday so the family is going to brunch together. A nice way to spend the day.
I finished the boot cuffs (3 pair) for DDIL Noe I’ attempting to knit the other sock of the pair I’m making.. hope my patience holds out
I want to start my. Iolin lessons but want to wait til I’m feeling better. I just fool around with the scales,

So JoAnne, I always drank water with my meals until Christmas time when I bought DGS17 the Tom Brady book about working out and healthing eating.. I skimmed a few chapters and found a little nugget about water—he says we shouldn’t drink water with our meals—before and after only—it reduces the body being able to absorb all the nutrients so I just recently changed and wow it’s been hard cause I was so used to drinking my food down. Now I am getting used to it—-I had never heard that before but my gym teacher said that in fact that has been known for some time. I do drink a lot of water—more than many people but I do take a BP pill that has a diuretic in it—-losartan potassium. I have to make sure I don’t get dehydrated. But even before BP meds I always drank lots of water. my BF here has to force herself to drink a 12 oz glass a day. I literally get nauseated when I don’t get enough water.
So when is your DH’ s birthday?
We took DD an DGS13 out for dinner at Sharkeys tonight—healthful MX food—mostly organic and wild caught fish and shrimp. They got fr yogurt after and I passed—will have a little kefir with blueberries in a minute.

Yes , I have heard that about water or any drink. We used to to tell pt’s that have had partial gastrectomy not to drink til after eating. Probably a good idea. I’Ll ha e to try.
We have a new chain that has been around here about 3 yrs. called Zoie’s. I do love it! Ate there Wed. after our financial appt.
Really cold again today. Brrrrr. The first of the week didn’t even have to wear a coat! Crazy!
DH has gone to check his antifreeze and get oil change. Will later take me to the store. Checked on my car and they say they will paint next week and have to me by Fri. - but everyone knows how that goes- we will see!
