Are you putting anything else on the toast? Low-fat cheese is probably a better option from the standpoint of nutrition (more protein than butter which is practically 100% fat). I have been known to spread plain nonfat Greek yogurt on toast (in lieu of cream cheese). Some people use things like I Can't Believe it isn't Butter and there's a second one whose name isn't in my head right now... it's another "butter substitute" (there are probably several in your market).

what is a good butter substitute for toast? eirego1, I use Smart Balance Light because it's dairy free (my son is lactose intolerant). A very light smear (3 grams) on toast is zero points.

I use Land o Lakes whipped butter if I'm going to taste the butter as it's 2 SP per tablespoon. For something sweet, try sugar free jams/jellies or sugar free syrups. A light smear of peanut butter if you have the points. Or I've found that I can leave off the butter if I'm doing over easy fried eggs, the yolk coats the bread nicely.

I like Land-o-Lakes lite butter. It contains butter and canola oil, and is a bit lower in points than regular butter.

The problem I find with all the "buttery" spreads is that they contain a lot of water and make toast soggy. For an alternative to those spreads, I would use a Laughing Cow Light Swiss cheese wedge. But, personally, I decided some time ago to just use butter. I can get by with 1 tsp and am willing to pay the points for the real thing.

eirego1, I've been using I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray. You get 16 spritzes for 0 points. I'm surprised that it is enough, but it is.
